It's a children's toy flick and that's exactly what Schumaker was told to make. Uma and Arnie understood this above everyone. They're really having fun in the film, you can tell. I'd watch it for two sets alone. It's a take on the West style Batman to be honest. Returns is my favorite, B&R is still great.

>It's a children's toy flick and that's exactly what Schumaker was told to make.
It would have been better if they'd leaned even heavier into the silliness. They tried to market it as a serious Batman movie and they should have just gone all in on the absurdity. Arnold's performance is clearly meant to be absurd; but film critics criticized him as if he was trying to play a serious role which was disingenuous at best.
It's a perfect film. His best acting as well. His cadence and delivery. >Hey Billy, get me a way outta this hole
He's never talked or sounded the way he did in Predator ever again. Best he ever looked too since he shed all that weight. Made his skull look unique with those sunken in cheeks. They emphasized it with the camo makeup too. That's why the Predator admires his skull at the end. It's unique looking to him. Not a waste of film. Perfectly edited and directed.
He looks great in Conan. He was fresh off of Mr Universe. Had to actually shed some muscle there as well to use the sword right. I still think Pred Arnie peak though. Right down to his divers watch.
Didn't even have to click the link I know exactly what scene it is if that's Conan. I'll never not get hype at the opening as well. >Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!
The best Arnold movies (in order):
1- Conan the Barbarian
2- The Terminator
3- Predator
4- Commando
5- Total Recall
I haven't seen Running Man again, I wonder how has it aged.
PD: I prefer watching Commando right before Predator because of how easy it is to consider them coexisting in the same universe, like Blade Runner with Alien.
I'm a Last Action Hero man myself, but I think you'd be hard pressed trying to find someone who doesn't have Predator in his top 5.
I'd have said top 3 but someone in the thread already put it beyond that
Depends on the tree, balsa is obviously very light but that looks like it could be oak which is a lot denser. That log if real is probably around 250lbs which I'm sure he could carry but it's probably a weighted foam prop so other people could lift it easily.
hard to tell, assuming the tree is not much longer than it extends out of frame, probably 800lbs. doable for arnold but few other people
that's more realistic and no, Arnold couldn't lift that for real or carry it on one side casually. maybe he could have carried it for real when he was still a powerlifter, but with proper technique under great strain.
you can tell in the movie it's a light weight prop he's carrying.
2 is amazing and thankfully a completely different feeling. It's even sweatier than the first and about 2x more mean. It's brilliant. Predator is still king though. For me: Predator > Predator 2 > Prey
That's legit, I think both are great, Predator 2 had a bit of campiness to it that's comfy as can be, didn't take itself as serious but still lives up to the original.

My favorite Arnold movie is Terminator 2, but Predator is actually a perfect movie. There is 0 fat on that movie, and 0 flaws. There are few in this world. You cannot dispute its greatness, even if it's not your favorite Arnold movie.
Nah. He is a representation of the absolute peak humanity is capable of producing warrior-wise. A hunter underestimated those he considered primitives compared to his kind and paid the ultimate price.
Pred should've just turned off his bodycam then and used his tech, and gone back to his hunter buddies saying the humans threw nukes at him but he won with just his fists

No love interest (just a random Mexican chick)
No kid
It's that easy
>unneeded romance plots
Absolutely not needed and do in fact get in the way. There's a reason Predator and The Thing work so well cast wise. Having said this When Harry Met Sally and Some Kind Of Wonderful are two of my all time favorite films.
one huge mistake: he was great in Last Action Hero and the movie itself is fun enough.
also Total Recall should definitely be above Commando but that's a detail.
This is my secret favorite. Predator's the one you have to say is best to proles at the bar. Commando is the comfiest choice and the one that feels the best to turn on and lie on the couch on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
>feels the best to turn on and lie on the couch on a lazy Saturday afternoon
I still disagree. Predator, like Aliens, seems designed in a lab to be the perfect throw on anytime and enjoy it films. I own it in 4K and if it's on someone's TV or I see a vid about it I'm popping them in and watching the whole thing if I'm able to. Commando is top tier B movie entertainment, Predator is a desert island film. I never get tired of it.
It's a great movie but it's square in Raw Deal territory. A lot of fun but can't hold a candle to the heavy hitters. In my opinion, his most underrated film of that type(Commando, Raw Deal, Etc)is Red Heat.
Commando just goes to shit during the finale. Arnold just stands there flat footed and guns down like 200 guys who suddenly forgot they can shoot back. Shit is full ham and embarrassing.
No fricking way. Its so over the top it borders on satire. Its filled with absurd one liners, great action scenes and a simply absurd number of henchman getting killed in the final act.
Ooh! La! La!
>with a shit final boss.
Granted. Its the film's one major let down. The guy who plays him is great, he was Wez in Mad Max 2; but his outfit is lame and even his silly death is so cartoonish that it seems out of place even in a film as silly as Commando.
That said Arnold killed like 150 people to get to him so I'm not sure it matters that much.
>and a simply absurd number of henchman getting killed in the final act.
But that's what sucked about it. Arnold just moves around totally flatfooted standing still in an open field shooting an endless number of mooks that completely forgot their basic training and just decide to run at the guy with like 4 different automatic rifles 1 by 1. It was just stupid, excessive, and the worst part is they could of done some creative shootout scenes like the wild bunch or some shit but they just decided to make it into like a Contra level.
Like I said Commando borders on satire. Its a silly movie, nothing in it should be taken seriously. Thoughts like, "an actual commando would be taking cover and attempting a flanking maneuver" is not something that should be passing through your mind when you're watching a movie as silly as Commando.
I agree. If I'm deciding between Arnold movies or action movies in general I'm not likely to pick Commando. If you just want someone in your movie to fire a machine gun off screen at hundreds of mooks there are lesser actors who can do the job, and the few good moments aren't enough to carry that for me. I'll still watch it if it happens to be on, but again there are other films that just do the same thing but better for me where Arnold's presence is better utilized.
his eyebrows are also painted over and because he's in dim lighting his eyes look dark enough to be asian, when in proper lighting they are a color no asian's eyes could ever be, see
He looks great in Conan. He was fresh off of Mr Universe. Had to actually shed some muscle there as well to use the sword right. I still think Pred Arnie peak though. Right down to his divers watch.

3: Conan

6: TRUE LIES
7: Commando
8: The Running Man
9: The 6th Day

10: Red Heat
I'm not counting The Long Goodbye because he's only in one scene and I don't know how I'd wrap my mind around comparing a Robert Altman Neo Noir to a schlock fest like Commando.
I like Eraser. Eraser, Red Heat, The 6th Day, and Escape Plan the one he did with Stallone in 2013 all occupy the same tier of solidly enjoyable action. I put 6th Day on top because I think its underrated and I liked its cloning premise.
Last Action Hero is so weird I felt the need to include it because I enjoy weirdness and appreciate a film trying to do something different.
>Escape Plan
horrible. reeks of >we spent 99% of the budget on two actors and now we're going to film closeups of them in generic corridors and then cheat on the taxes to scrape by
Conan isn't even an "arnold" movie. Sure he's in it but it's not about arnold it's about conan. Predator, for instance is an arnold movie. Terminator: Not an arnold movie. T2 and arnold movie. Deal with it.
I feel the same way for the most part and for the life of me can't understand anyone saying Terminator is his best film. He might as well be Michael Myers in that. He's mostly silent. I love it of course, but best Arnie performance? Not by a long shot.
Excellent movie, but I think The Terminator is better
Predator is a great movie but for my personal taste in ArnieKino, I prefer Commando, Total Recall and Last Action Hero.
Excellent taste all around. I love Jingle All the Way, True Lies, T2, Running Man, and Last Action Hero.
Commando's my favorite too. I don't think it's the best movie that he's been in, but it's the quintessential Arnold Schwarzenegger flick.
Same, whenever it comes up I describe Commando as the quintessential action movie. It's got everything that the genre's known for at its peak.

SAD!
i was including it as good
Oh my mistake, I get ornry when people get all mad at Batman and Robin because they try to compare it to 89 and Returns when that's just not fair
The only valid complaint against B&R is that it has some weird editing at times.

Predator is good but it's more of a thriller than an action film. There's barely any stunts in it.
Terminator is his best movie. I'd put Conan, Commando, T2 right behind that then Total Recall, Predator, True Lies, Running Man right behind those.
It's a perfect film. His best acting as well. His cadence and delivery.

Life is suffering.

This is what it looks like. This is a zoomer with no soul. An empty husk, shambling about, aping humanity like chatgpt in a cheap robot body.

with how dystopian "reality TV" got over the next few decades this movie has aged very well.
