Yes . It's better than House Of A Thousand Corpses.

I saw him live like 10 years ago and he played Elfen Lied videos in the background while performing.

His later work really shat all over his earlier movies.

I watched his stuff when it first came out when I was like 15, and even then it seemed like pointlessly nihilistic grim dark crap for edgelords

How is House of 1000 Corpses nihilistic? It's a fun campy horror movie. It's more optimistic than the modern trauma/grief porn crap they try to pass off as horror.
Zombie's stuff is edgy, but it's edgy in a fun way.

Yeah, but I prefer House of 1000 Corpses. Also watch Spider Baby, a major influence on Zombie's films and also starring Sid Haig.

      Wrong
      >house of 1000 corpses
      >the devil's rejects
      >the lords of salem
All good. His Halloween duology is also worth watching because a lot of people love it and a lot of people hate it. It's divisive but not shit.

Rob Zombies best movie. watch Thousand Corpses first though, it's great too but Rejects just has a really unique perspective.

Watch House Of A Thousand Corpses and then The Devil’s Rejects. The first movie sets up the characters and backstory for you and it’s fun but The Devil’s Rejects is the better movie. And whatever you do don’t watch any other movies made by Rob Zombie because they’re awful.

Lords of Salem is alright. it's not amazing but it's not cliched, worth a watch at least. everything's some found footage jumpscare slasher bullshit so something that takes more after stuff like The Shining and Rosemary's Baby is nice.

Yes, House of a Thousand Corpses is good too. Also do not watch Three From Hell, it retroactively ruins the kino of Rejects.

this movie is such a piece of shit but it's purely self indulgent pissing away studio money on something he made for himself, genuinely one of the most gigachad moves by a filmmaker in the last decade.

it's aged really well. kinda took it for granted back in that era of edge but man it's heads and shoulders above most everything the last 6+ years are so. really incredible production value and locations that give it that gonzo visceral quality that feels dirty and horrific initself. the hills have eyes inspired southern trash aesthetic really works for horror and the characters live and breathe it, they're so memorable and feel dangerous

ok, this convinced me to watch it (again after many years)

      >the last 6+ years are so.
i'd say even more. if Hollywood today tried to do "horror movie from the perspective of the killer" it'd be some le subversive marxist bullshit. this is just a raw look at what a movie like that would really be. Rob Zombie is like one of the few guys that could wholeheartedly pull that off because his entire life and aesthetic is 70s serial killer.

my favorite is the maniac remake, in part because of that ost

Almost every older movie looks better when compared to today's low effort crap. Zombie's movies definitely seem better now than they did when they came out, you can feel the passion.

How many times do the characters drop "shit butthole dick frick"? I'm not a prude or anything, but the amount of fricking swearing in his movies is mindbogglingly detrimental. I cannot take your bad guy seriously when he talks about fricking pussy and shitting his pants, Rob. The dialogue is like a middle school locker room

something about zombie's redneck pastiche has always left me cold. it's just such a spot-on stereotype it verges on satire even though it's not supposed to be. harmony korine did the same thing but played to a more affluent cultural consumer. i guess i'd prefer to see redneck horror made by actual rednecks, not some guy who went to art school in brooklyn

he was brought up on that kind of redneck outsider art and seems to be drawn to it, to me it feels genuine, he really embroils himself in that aesthetic and lifestyle 100%. it's not just some schtick he did to grift rubes, he really loves this stuff, it's authentic.
