      Yes

      >Disney markets it as a fantasy-style family film like Chronicles of Narnia
      >actually has no supernatural elements
      >The cute friend girl dies like halfway into the movie and the rest of it is the kid dealing with accepting her death

For some reason I thought this was a holocaust film. I thought it was one of those cheesy films about kids surviving the horrors of war and Terabithia was a concentration camp where they found a silver lining to the imprisonment.

two movies released around the same time take the cake
    Snow Dogs and Kangaroo Jack
    both are semi-serious comedy dramas
both feature a character having a dream halfway through the movie where animal characters talk to them (in snow dogs its a bunch of huskies on a beach, in Kangaroo Jack it's a Kangaroo)
both movies based their entire marketing campaigns off those single scenes, which have nothing to do with the rest of the movie

wait people thought the Snow Dogs could talk? I thought Snow Dogs was just your simple fish-out-of-water tale. The back guy who is from the ghetto/south has to learn how to mush sled dogs.

It was a very valuable lesson to learn as a boy.
It shaped my tastes as a man.

Is this not required reading in Elementary School anymore?

It was the go-to book back in the day about how to get over the death of a friend. It was assigned reading.

Maybe it's because I'm 35 but when I was in elementary school we had to read Where the Red Fern Grows for our depressing generation reading requirement

I'm 28 and we read BTT and saw it in theaters.

wait people thought the Snow Dogs could talk? I thought Snow Dogs was just your simple fish-out-of-water tale. The back guy who is from the ghetto/south has to learn how to mush sled dogs.

Snow Dogs was about a black dentist learning how to be Yukon Cornelius.

Sup fellow Midwestern public school book enjoyer. I'm the same age. We got both of them.

Imagine assigning Where the Red Fern Grows to kids today. I loved that book as a kid growing up in Kansas. It's obviously why they assigned it.

    >Is this the greatest example of misleading advertising in all of cinema?

No, this one is. Trailer is literally the first two minutes of the movie where Iolaos tells stories in the pub and the theme of the movie is how it is all either entirely made up or heavily embelished and how Hercules is basically just really good mercenary with a team.

It is a good movie though.

I went to see this with my friends when I was around 14 thinking it was some sort of Narnia movie but we were all wrong. It was a boring drama. Honestly they should have just loosely adapted this into a fantasy movie about two normal kids having adventures in a weird world
