It's true she started it all. But at the same time she's somewhat still likeable. She gets beaten and even humbled a few times. In fact her story is about a mary sue that gets beaten and then rises again with new respect for her power.

I don't think any Avatar can be classified as a Mary-Sue. They have 10,000 lifetimes of experience when it comes to bending, so it's not unusual for them to be insanely good at something without training. The forced lesbian thing was pretty gay though.

I saw it with MiB3. It was subtle, it was there, it was 2012, but thankfully didn't ruin the movie for me. However, a rewatch a decade later, you notice the revionism of history [of 1969].
