It's true she started it all. But at the same time she's somewhat still likeable. She gets beaten and even humbled a few times. In fact her story is about a mary sue that gets beaten and then rises again with new respect for her power.

Yes, korra is ugly and unlikeable. There is a reason of why all her rule 34 haves her always drawn more pretty than OG design and also, in humiliating situations.
She's not a Mary sure, she fricking sucked and is probably one of the most incompetent protagonists ever.
I don't think any Avatar can be classified as a Mary-Sue. They have 10,000 lifetimes of experience when it comes to bending, so it's not unusual for them to be insanely good at something without training. The forced lesbian thing was pretty gay though.

LoK would have been better if it was further removed from the original Avatar series.
I didn't even like LoK but isn't the first season about her unable to airbend and a later season has her spending most of it being a depressed coward in a wheelchair because she almost got killed?

it has none of the old-timesy comfy vibe of Avatar, and while it does its own thing it feels like it misses what made Avatar so good.

I saw it with MiB3. It was subtle, it was there, it was 2012, but thankfully didn't ruin the movie for me. However, a rewatch a decade later, you notice the revionism of history [of 1969]. Interracial couples, certain people in certain positions of govt or NASA at that time, a few weird off-tone jokes (the payoff was fine for the convertible scene), but it definitely was the beginning of woke with the 2nd term of Obama after Occupy.
