Boomers like the show because they have shit taste and love dumb power fantasy shows, and their children like it because they look up to their boomer parents and are afraid to have different opinions. Similarly the goodfather films, scorcese slop, apocalypse now... awful films that boomers love but have no style, no substance, are only good for curing insomnia.
Now ask the average sopranos fan a question: what's your favourite episode? "uh i guess it's the one where they are lost in the woods..." Why? "idk man it's funny..." What season was that? Why were they in the woods anyway? "I don't remember..." You dont remember? Tell me what happened in each season, describe the themes of the show, artistic choices, the narrative? The show has no memorable episodes, nothing to write home about. It's shit. Now ask a Breaking Bad fan about his favourite episode and the themes of the show and they'll give a well thought answer. Why? Because Breaking Bad is the superior show and the viewers actually like it.

I thought this was supposed to be a dark, fricked up show as a kid. I never watched it until I was in my late 20's and was legitimately laughing at it. Weird how the things you hear in the other room painted a different picture in your imagination then what it actually was.
The way critics talked about it I thought it was a prolonged indepth super serious TV series resembling the godfather. It's actually a hilarious comedy with some drama sometimes

The fact it's primarily comedy makes you care about the characters even though they're buttholes. It also serves to make the serious drama elements more effective when it does cone up.

I've never watched it cos I get the impression it's one of those shows that uses that shit head concept of, "the main character is a total bad ass, he'll kill anyone" yet he kills no one and whenever he's about to, some weird thing comes up that prevents it. Like peaky blinders. The guys meant to be a gangster but everytime he has to ice someone and be a real man he ends up talking his way out of it and "outwitting" his enemy. Gay.

depression, addiction, raising kids, taking care of elderly parents, etc
the first season is incredible, cogent, and fresh. everything after that is at best standard soap opera water cooler talk fodder and at worst DUDE GABAGOOL LMAO. i recommend anyone watching this show stop after season 1, you won't miss anything and the s1 finale serves as a more concise ending than the series finale anyway
