If a joke requires you to know the dumb language to understand it it's not a good joke.

I used to teach English in Japan
My best joke was one that required both English and Japanese to get
      >Why can't Japanese men carry 2 snakes?
      >Because it's [spoilers]TOO HEBI[/spoilers]

My old man Japanese English teachers would break up laughing at it and then go on and explain the jokes to their friends who didn't understand it

Stupid, but made me lol. Have had a similiar problem with a comedy video to the song Killing In The Name Of. The main joke is that "and now you do what they told ya" sounds more or less like "nuggeto watte touchan", which requires way too much explaination to anyone who only speaks one of the languages to be funny.

Explain it anyway, I like learning about foreign puns.

The whole video is this family around a table, and the son keeps giving chicken nuggets to his dad and his dad keeps breaking them."And now you do what they told ya" sounds a lot like "nuggeto watte touchan" in japanese, which means nugget breaking father. So they get into the rhythm thats playing for the buildup to the chorus, and then the mom goes "Dou tsun da?!" (What are you doing?) Because that also sounds a lot like "Those who died". It's a funny video that makes absolutely no sense to most of the human population.

Did you know Fascism comes from the Italian word for bundle of sticks? It's in reference to the Italian nomenclature for a worker's union or guild based on the concept that people were stronger together than individually much like a bundle of sticks.

I feel bad for the poor sould that had to figure out a translation for XRA. Other show that's almost impossible to translate into other languages without losing half of the jokes is Archer

Recent dubs don't give a frick anymore. The Bad Guys holiday special just used "Santa" in the Castilian dub, for example.

I know there are multiple people who have tried to come up with translations for "Whose on First?" for their native languages and they've all failed miserably

Conversely, jokes that could not be made in the English dub. Supposedly, most of the humor in Samurai Pizza cats depended on awful Japanese-language puns, none of which could be translated into English and still make sense in the context of the cartoon. So, the English dubbers just scrapped the entire original Japanese script and made up an entirely different English one.
