Hey OP, do me a favour and kys real quick.
>and kys real quick.
You mean kys real quickening?
I think Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade is a perfect example of this. It's the weakest of the series. Rehashed Ark with more chases and less archeology. You can skip everything up to last 20 minutes and miss absolutely nothing really important to the plot. Also it's borderline comedy between Ford and Connery. And for some reasons this piece of crap is considered one of the best by some people.
Weakest of the series? Are you actually saying that Crystal Skull and Dialator of Destiny are better? You are profoundly moronic.
he probably means of the original series from 80s
Yup, The Last Crusade is garbage, it's made for 10 year olds.
Bewilders me every time when people say it's the their favourite. Tired rehash of Raiders. Connery carries the movie with his charisma and once you see past him there's nothing to the movie.
>it's borderline comedy between Ford and Connery.
I liked that. Just as I liked how Temple of Doom leaned more into the action than the others. I wish Ford and Connery had done more movies together.
Same with Terminator 2. Cornball meme-y shit. “Why do humans cry?” Jesus Christ. But it’s everyone’s favorite.
T2 has great action and special effects that set standards for their time to overcome corny dialogue.
>Same with Terminator 2.
Nah frick you.

I've been telling Cinemaphile this for years but the majority of films with Queen on the soundtrack are actually mediocre as hell. I'm not knocking Queen or anyone's taste, but the fricking music unironically turns things into Kino. If I ever made a movie and I wanted to guarantee it was a hit I'd throw some Queen in there.
Conan the barbarian, it has a nice score and some ok scenes. It may very well be the "best" film lf it's type.
But i felt the film had a lack of scenes, it really feels like a drawn out tv episode. Conan hardly fights in it too, his co stars have more action.
Yeah that's fair. I really like it because it honestly is the best in its genre, but also understand why that isn't a compliment
Looks like you got bondburgered.
My dad recorded the second one on VHS. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Only later, when I read other people's opinions I started to think: "Well, maybe they have a point." I still love it. And the show was some quality dad-son time. Then I bought the first one on DVD and it's actually shit. Only memorable scene is where all the glass blows out as he is receiving 'The Quickening'.
The show was the first time for me where an important character died. Duncan's wife was killed in a hostage situation iirc. Or it was cancer, I forget. He wasn't able to save her. Then you had Duncan, on his boat, looking through his library while 'Dust In The Wind' from Kansas played. It would probably look like shit if I rewatch it now, but at the time it made an impact on me. This was before it became fashionable to kill off main characters. So it had an impact on lil' old me. The heroes weren't supposed to lose.
All that aside: there is great potential for Highlander. I would love to see it again.
>Highlander... it's actually shit
Anon... xe's actually an embarrassing homosexual.
Got you senpai
The running fight at the end deserves all the praise it gets and is good enough to carry the movie.
Hate to break it to you, but it was ripped off from Bullitt
All true. These anons are correct.
This but they’re subhuman philistines instead
You sound angry. There's something I've noticed recently. It's become very clear to me. There hasn't been a masculine generation since WW2 and boomers, Gen X and millennials are all embarrassingly LARPing as tough guys, it's totally ridiculous and there faux machismo makes them look like 12 year old children.
And when were you born?
Before 2k but I'm not a millennial. That golden spot where you had the internet growing up but also all the outdoor activities and stuff was still relatively offline compared to how it's now.
WWii gen weren't masculine.
Fricking filtered. You're too emotionally braindead to appreciate kino like this.
Why is Cinemaphile hating on Heat all the sudden? Did some youtuber make a video on it saying it was bad or something? You zoomies are pathetic little creatures with zero original thought. You can't possibly understand grand kino like Heat because it doesn't have enough fortnite dances and marvel tier quips
>You zoomies
Not even funny how obsessed you are with us. Inferiority complex right there. Must suck to have lost all your youth and done nothing with it in the process.
He's not wrong. Every time there's a wave of hivemind opinions being posted it always links back to some popular youtube video. Don't get butt blasted just because you can't form your own opinions.
Look at this butthurt lil zoomie. Your whole generation is so fricking weak minded.
I used to be like you. First time I watched this, I didn't love it. Second time I rewatched it and something just clicked right for me and I saw how truly kino this movie is. Maybe you just need to grow up to appreciate kino of this level.
Mann shit is overly sterile. Worse than Kubrick even. Feels totally unalive.
There's nothing sterile about Heat. What are you even trying to say?
>Sterile
How so?
I will never understand why this movie gets praise instead of relentlessly shit on. The gimmick doesn't even make sense in the end. There's no fricking gore, so it's not relying on that. The main characters do absolutely frick all, they're both incredibly boring stereotypes, and the entire fricking movie is just a drawn out episode of any random police procedural. It brings nothing to the table unless this is like, the second movie you've ever watched.
but Se7en was panned and trashed when it came out
you have bad taste in movies, it's that simple
It's a great film but I always felt the ending was way too rushed and threw things out of the window. All of John Doe's kill were basically proto-Jigsaw and then he just goes on and murders an innocent woman? I get that he was basically making himself a martyr for the sin of envy but I still can't stomach it. I guess they did that because in typical Hollywood fashion they feared people wouldn't despise him enough.
>the prostitute
She was intented as the victim for Lust. The guy who was traumatized probably was her client and sought her out so doing that to him didn't go against his beliefs. He always left the others with a choice. The Sloth guy was still alive if mangled beyond belief. Killing Tracy just threw all that out of the window and it made his speech in the car completely null and void. It felt like they didn't have a good way to end it and just went for the shock value. Also, the film had a very comfy and grimy aeshtetic which is completely undone when they go to the desert and it looks like a Michael Bay film. I never liked the ending. Just nonsensical grimdark shit.
>and the entire fricking movie is just a drawn out episode of any random police procedural.
That’s the problem with trying to watch Seven now if you weren’t there at the time. It was heavily copied by the likes of Criminal Minds, CSI, Dexter, etc. The Silence of the Lambs is similar with Clarice directly Dana Scully and The X-Files in general.
with Clarice directly leading to Dana Scully*
>relentlessly
Why do you talk like that? Do you think it makes you sound smart or something?
?
Literally just 2 and half hours of DDL playing old timey Waluigi in a fricking fedora with a fake meme accent running around the rdr2 map talking about le oil pipelines or some boring shit with le classic meme actor then periodically punches him because of repressed homosexual urges or some shit while random unimportant events that have frick all to do with the plot occur in the background that ends with cringe reddit tier "IM ACTING!!!" scene and le funny milkshake meme and Walmart tier social commentary of
>dude... capitalism is like... actually really bad... also like... religion is bad too i guess... lmao xD
Bait
>call a universally beloved SOVLful 80s classic that 99% of this board loves shit
Good bait.
That's the point. It's all great when you talk but when you actually watch it it's trash.
Eh, it isn't high brow cinema but trash? Certainly not. It had a great soundtrack, good enough direction, solid acting (yes, Lambert was strange but he did well in my eyes) and had a good story amped by a very hopeful message and ending.
I don't agree with your assesments of the lead or the movie but I'll agree that is a great premise with loads of potential that the sequels shat the bed on delivering massively. I always liked the theory that the immortals are Lucifer's legion of fallen angels who God has allowed only one to be redeemed and is the reason they can't fight on holy ground dedicated to God and the Quickening is sort of them tasting the godly powers of being an angel again. Maybe that headcanon has a few holes but it's better than them being aliens or some shit.
The third one had Mario Von Peebles in it no? It was called Highlander: The Sorcerer.
He's also the guy who directed 'New Jack City'. and he starred in a Terminator ripp off named: 'Solo'.
The DVD commentary on 'New Jack City' was interesting. For instance: the opening had a chopper and a zooming in shot, to show people this was a movie with a budget. Ice-T was a cop. Snipes wasn't as big a star as he became but there's that scene where he got beaten up and he went all out. Not worried about being too cool for school.
Snipes is better than Washington. It's not a contest, but yes he was.
The movie itself is, as you would expect, quite shit. But it was a different time. Only reason you'd watch it is because of Snipes his charisma. Chris Rock is in it too. As a junkie moron.
It is a shit movie. And Christopher Walken is a terrible actor. But the premise of Highlander is good.
Im old a.f. so I love me some highlander, but I genuinely don't understand anyonr who was not an 80's kid appriceate this movie. Or Ghostbusters.
'Ghostbusters' is classic. Don't compare it to 'Highlander'.
Ghostbusters legitimately revolutionized comedy movies and it gets a ton of its deserved praise from that, but I would agree with someone that doesn't like it 'as a movie' so to speak. Kind of like Citizen Kane. Like you can appreciate how much it did for cinematography even if you dislike the movie for whatever reason.
>Ghostbusters legitimately revolutionized comedy movies
>same year as Top Secret!
Ghostbusters wasn't even very funny; it was very marketable.
Dude, you're threading on thin ice.
*treading. Don't make me bust you up man!
Yes, that's evidence of my point. Top Secret! was a straight parody movie. Ghostbusters was an original comedy with an original plot that stood on its own as a movie even without the comedy bits. Basically unheard of before then.
Your lack of awareness is shocking
Again, a very straight parody of mob movies that were doing so well at the time.
>I saw it as a child in the 80s so that means it's SOUL(good)
Good bait
came here to post this
weakest of the series
Part 1 is the weakest of the series??
biggest bait
Grow up.
no u
Shoulve posted Empire Strkes Back. It's generally praised but in fact it's empty shell with 2 groups doing own shit for 75% of the time. 1st SW is good but ESB is trash praised for no reason.
Hoth stuff was good rest of the movie is meh or even bad
Cloud City was visually cool too but was dumb
Nah, that's the only good Star Wars film.
>woman showing leg
Delete this, chud and refer to the updated Disney Coporation artwork.
This poster is wrong in so many levels
>Luke showing his bare chest
>Leia showing cleavage and legs
>Showing the droids but not Han, Chewie, not to mention legends like the actors behind Obi-Wan and Moff Tarkin, whatever their names were
>C-3PO doesn't look like that
>There aren't that many x-wings on the film
>That lightsaber looks way to big and dangerous
>Darth Vader was smaller
>Leia showing cleavage and legs
At least she got a costume somewhat reminiscent of what she wears in the movie compared to the first sketches. The whole poster was very Frazetta inspired.
The Irishman, completely gushed over and tongue-bathed by fricking everyone then turns out to be a three-hour lesson in boredom.
2001
>ITT: movies considered classics, often praised and hailed that ultimately turn out to be piece of shit when you actually watch them. Any other examples like Highlander?
Star Wars, i just can't force myself to watch it.. i would say it's shit, but i don't want to offend the fanbase
the first film is good and i don't even like sci fi but it's more like adventure in space. return of jedi however. .. now thats shit.
I mean if you are gonna say Star Wars it's in your right but at least give a reason why
have a nice day zoomer scum
The Matrix and The Shining are the two that come to mind for me
The Untouchables
Not really shit, just incredibly bland
ITT anons that don't understand camp
Highlander is played completely straight, maybe you don't understand "camp"
"Camp" requires a knowing tongue in its cheek
Give me a definition of 'camp', smartass.
A place where israelites voluntarily go on Holiday and like it so much they decide to stay forever. No one was ever forced.
The place where the other boys touched you and you secretly kind of liked it.
holy pleb kys yourself
hellraiser
i watched through every one of them with a friend recently and the only decent one was 2
A Portuguese guy I know went to Scotland and New York only to see the filming locations they used in Highlander.
Julliette Lewis looking homie
I’m an elder zoomer and Highlander is fricking awesome. If you don’t love Highlander you just can’t appreciate kino. Also it’s imbued with ancient Rosicrucian wisdom like all Sean Connery films. Now the guy who said Terminator 2, that I agree with. T1 is way way better.
Casablanca. I really don't know why it's so praised.
Movie’s good, but the ending is incredibly rushed and I never see people point that out
My mom was an extra in highlander 2, lol
What’s the cut off year for stuff to be considered a classic? One guy here mentioned The Irishman but I’d say that’s too recent to be considered a classic.
I know this board likes being hyperbolic so most movies mentioned here aren’t actually shit but underwhelming considering their critical reception, in any case, I asked about the cut off year for classics since I’m more commonly disappointed with well-received modern flicks than old ones. If I had to go with modern flicks it’d probably be something like Her or Little Miss Sunshine, as for older flicks, stuff like Rocky 1 and 4, The Wizard of Oz and several old Disney films, I also kinda have to agree about the original Star Wars trilogy, the first one and even ESB to an extent are actually pretty boring.
>What’s the cut off year for stuff to be considered a classic?
It's the same as the retro video game argument. No one really knows because there's two distinct groups of people that think it should mean different things. Does 'classic' refer to a specific era, or is an evolving term and new years are eligible as time passes? Irishman, I'd definitely say is too new unless someone specifically calls it a 'modern classic.' Personally, I think about ten years is a good cutoff. Anything newer than that suffers from extreme recency bias if we're talking about top ten lists or whatever.
>One guy here mentioned The Irishman but I’d say that’s too recent to be considered a classic.
You should never speak.
Frick you, Casablanca is the opposite. I went in expecting another overhyped turd of classic Hollywood, the same way The Wizard of Oz or Gone With the Wind deserve none of their praise, but was greeted by one of the best fricking films of its era. Casablanca is a legit 11/10.
That's what makes it prime for a reboot.
No blacks please. That will kill the hype before the cameras even role. I wonder if black people realize they're killing cinema?
Didn't they try that a whole bunch? Like even a TV series attempt?
Judging movies from before your time through your undoubtedly modern lens and sensibilities is why you don't enjoy movies older than you. You have yet to understand that most art and movies are products of their time. The fact that any are timeless is amazing, but most never will be.
A great example of an art form that in it's more modern capacity will never be timeless is music. Music now won't last like music from the 60s-80s.
For example, Highlander came out in 1986, in a time where Hollywood was looking to foreign nations for themes and ideas. You get things like Highlander or Crocodile Dundee. They aren't 'bad' movies, they just aren't timeless movies like 12 Angry Men or It's a Wonderful Life.
Hate this. The critics raved about it, but I thought it stunk.
DiCaprio gurns his way thru the running-time. Matt Damon is too lightweight. And Nicolson looks like he is suffering with haemorrhoids.
the show that delivers is the origonal transformers movie in the 80's
wipes out planet in the first 5 minutes.
blow the shit out all your favourite chracters
great lines.
Megs offs prime
the junk planet and shart planet were weak
but the rest oh yeah
its not that bad OP. its cheesy, but it has lots of charme and one of clancy browns best evil man performances next to the pastor in Carnivàle
Good show
Millennial here, and thought I might aswell ask for the boomer perspective, but is it me or do a lot of fantasy movies from before the 90s seem to have nonsensical dialogue? I noticed this in stuff like Legend and Willow, I don’t think that’s necessarily a flaw of the movies in and of themselves, as they’re probably written that way to add to the whimsical aspect of their settings, but I noticed that kind of writing has been dropped since for whatever reason, which I don’t think is necessarily good or bad, it’s just that whenever it happened it only made me wonder what the frick was it that the characters were trying to say
Not gonna watch your master's wokepig remake, shillhomosexual.
Read the first 10 replies or so, holy shit what a horrible thread with terrible takes. Stop and KYS
>movies considered classics, often praised and hailed
you got fooled if you believe that
it's just a dumb fun 80s movie
People call this one of the best horror movies ever made but I thought it was awful.
If there's no killer in a mask then it's a super unique horror movie for people who don't watch horror movies
I thought Us was much better.
I don’t think it was awful but definitely massively overrated, perhaps one of the most overrated movies of all time
Second time I see someone mentioning the wizard of Oz in this thread, and while I respect the technical landmark it was for cinema, I don’t think it held up very well at all, it’s literally a baby movie, on a similar level to Sesame Street, Barney and Teletubbies, so seeing adults praising it as some all time masterpiece always feels weird to me when it should really be lumped alongside mid-tier disney flicks
Gladiator
Bro, just rewatch the first 20 minutes of Gladiator and pay attention to how the dialogue of Maximus and Marcus Aurelius explains everything: The battle you just watched, why Maximus fights, why Maximus wants to go back home, the situation in Rome, why Maximus decides to be a gladiator instead of just giving up, why and how Commodus seized power, why Maximus fights so hard... it's mind-blowing.
>They are shooting Gladiator 2
what the frick?
>All that is solid melts into air, ALL THAT IS SACRED IS PROFANED, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind.
This is one of the stupidest, boring, and most pretentious films I ever had the displeasure of sitting through.
I left about 45 min into the film and have not finished it since.
Highlander is a weird movie because it has a lot of good elements but for some reason they decided to make a Frenchman that couldn't act or speak English their lead character
Why the frick does Connor have such a heavy Eastern European accent if his character is from medieval Scotland kek. He’s likable in this though
>sarcastically smiles
Lambert was very charismatic, but he couldn't act for shit. Easily the worst part of every movie he's starred in.
don't forget a Scotsman playing a Spaniard and an American playing a Kurgan.
itt: brainlets and incels
This film is one of the biggest pieces of shit I have seen in the past 10years.
have a nice day.
Bait thread all the way through.
Alien
>no they dont
They do.
Every current horror movie list has Get Out on it. They believe Get Out to be the best horror movie of the decade.
>They
Exactly, ~~*they*~~ but not "movies considered classics.
You missed the point of the thread.
i was 7 yo or maybe younger and was fantastic for me truth after 30 years was horible
