That has always been the case, the people who make east vs west posts about how anime is better never talk about the slave labor those workers go through, le woke is more important to them than worker rights, always has been.

Let alone all these animators are commies and slacktavists who only ever rise up when le orange man threatens to make the market freer and give people actual rights and fair wages.

Thing is this is the case for all feature animated films, not just spiderverse. Seems people are defensive or overly hostile towards this film in particular just because of their bias towards it.

      Anonymous

I don't see anyone trying to defend Pixar or Disney animation at this point. With Spiderverse though people are pretending it's the second coming of christ and they desperately want to consoom the next piece of the chapter as soon as possible no matter how many artists get crunched and fricked by hack directors and producers.

  15. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

Everyone coping and saying "J-Just take your time we can wait" misses the fundamental problems the production had, and that's the fact Chris is an actual NPC who can't visualize an animated sequence before seeing it fully rendered and completed, upon which he starts asking for revisions, which happens half a dozen times for almost every scene.

Even with all the time in the world that's a mind-numbing torturing inefficient way to do things, it's basically the treatment Kubrick gave Shelley Duvall on The Shining. Artists want to get the specifications for their scene, get their work on it over with, so they can move on to the next scene, not rework every scene 5+ times from scratch because the producer is a nepo baby with no vision or imagination who needs basically 5 different films made before he can edit them down to one.

It's not surprising Rogen was accused of the same thing on Sausage Party, animation needs animators who understand the process working on it the same way voice work needs voice actors and not celebrities.

... you know, that's an actually good complain, even if i hate those homosexuals i can only agree that was just bullshit, everyone, even normalgays, have a tacit understanding that animation is hard and takes time, all except hollywood it seems

These sorts of things are why MCU movies and shit like like Cats got so fricked up and look so bad. The director was like "WHY IS THIS TEST FOOTAGE SO INCOMPLETE?! I WANT FULLY RENDERED TEST FOOTAGE WITH FINAL CUT QUALITY EDITING!!" and then the company doing all the CGI that they advised the studio against doing, is now going bankrupt because of how much extra work they have to do just to get approvals from moronic directors and producers who don't understand that you can't do final cut quality test footage every time they want to see how things might look

        Anonymous

The reason why MCU movies look so bad nowadays is because they have dozens of them and they cheap out everywhere they can for example not hiring unionized CG artists.

          Anonymous

The word from every studio that works on MCU shit is that Disney goes in with very poor plans and changes major aspects of the movie multiples times during production, requiring entire sequences to be remade on a moment's notice or to have tons of work not make the theatrical release. Disney has the money to spend, but the contracts they put these studios under often leaves them footing the bill if they have to put in overtime to fix the problems Disney creates for them. It's not just that they're making too many of them, but that they are too incompetent to plan them out intelligently to ensure higher quality visuals make it to the final cut of the movie.

      Anonymous

Things like an awareness of how pipelines work and what causes problems during production is shit intentionally obscured even to prospects so they don’t question why conditions are shit and why they’re paid dirt vs so called “auteurs”. I don’t necessarily blame normies for not knowing this and going to “we’ll wait”, most of the biggest production disasters in the public consciousness are due to fast tracking and rushing to meet deadlines which. Still happens.
You do hit the nail on the head though, and it’s why I wish unionization efforts went beyond assuring the most basic shit like fair wages. The workers in the field generally tend to know what works and what doesn’t vs over pampered bosses who want finished animation redone because they could not understand what they were looking at on first pass. Unfortunately, class consciousness like that takes time to grow, especially in America where that shit gets sabotaged almost every time. It’s at least nice Joe Normie sympathizes and wants what is assumed to be best for the artists, even if he isn’t very knowledgeable about it.

I find this so fricking frustrating that literally every other job on this planet requires the worker to upskill at some point since the world moves on. Very common with tech and sciences then why in the actual frick do these fricking movie directors actually sit down and learn how visual effects and animation tools work so that they can save everyone, including themselves, a lot headache and stress by knowing what things would look like instead of asking for time and effort expensive renders to suggest edits?

    >Get paid well on top of overtime as well
I know some of you guys hate some of these artists but when some of these guyswere hired to do frickall for 3-6 months due to shitty pipeline management most of the blame is kinda on that aspect along with the other shit previously stated.

To be honest even if they got paid well they shouldn't have to work long hours. Whether they see it or not they are forced to work an inhumane amount of time and can't refuse it elsewise they'd lose their job

That's true. With 1000 people on board (especially when most or a good quarter of it was probably cheap foreign labor) you'd expect there to be no immense crunching for long periods of time. Reminds me of the anon who said that piling bodies on a project isn't what's gonna make the product come out faster if the pipelines are screwed out of whack.

Considering that literally the only reason LE WOKE exists to begin with is to convince people that the only human rights are suing people who use the wrongs pronouns when referring to you, and to erase any other form of social justice, the fact that no one gives a frick about workers' right means that the system is working exactly as expected.

In all fairness, all of ATSV's competition has basically imploded. Audiences have no other options. Elemental is holding well but it will still be a major flop. The Flash is going to drop by nearly 75 percent which is historically bad.
Theaters are already dropping premium Imax screens for flash and giving them to spiderverse.

If you told me it was a spiderman animated movie, I still would've called you dumb. Pixar is championed as the innovators of animation. Sony makes Cloudy with a chance of meatballs and the Smurfs. It shouldn't have been a contest. At least back then Pixar made more money than into the Spiderverse. Now it's bombing in both regards.

He returned a few, claimed he returned them all, and kept the rest.

Trump had from the moment he left office (January 20, 2021) to return them, until he got subpoenaed in May 2022, over a year later. Then he talked with some FBI agents, gave them some documents and said that they were all stored in his basement, until it turned out there were actually more and the FBI searched his home in August. So he easily had an opportunity to turn them all in, in June, with no consequences yet didn't.

It also wasn't an accident, he intentionally ordered people to stow the documents in trucks the moment he lost and move them to his residence

I know a few people who worked on this movie, and that story is absolute bullshit. People b***hed because they actually had to work 8 hour days and weren't allowed to leave early whenever they felt like it. One of the artists "quit" because he was caught not working from home by like noon on a Friday when he didn't sign on to a meeting that got rescheduled.

There is a union that oversees their working conditions. Most of these people worked from home. They just didn't want to work a 9-5 because they're "artists." If the conditions were bad the union would've thrown a shitfit and people would've gotten paid. Instead people were allowed to "leave" willingly because they didn't want to work on a project for that long.

People are lazy fricks (myself included) and will do anything they can do get out of work. The morons were just dumb enough to not know how to get around without getting caught.

The anon was saying it wasn't a success just because Flash flopped. Then when shown how it was objectively a success financially regardless, he moved the goalpost to being a success for a spiderman movie. That just contextualizes it. But overall, It's a financial success period.

Not attacking you but I remember people telling me that this movie would make a billion at least. Not just slightly more than the first film.

                Those people were moronic.
I honestly believe Mario may be the only billion dollar movie of 2023.
Spiderverse should finish in the 600 range which will be very good and put in in the top 10 profitable movies this year when deadline does their report.

Oh, that’s just delusional of them. It’s a good movie and it’s great to see it doing well, but it’s still animation. Most capeshit audiences think it’s still for little babies, no way it was gonna break a billion.

Dumbass, the fact that it made a billion dollars means the normal people went to see that shit. Not just hardcore fans. Use the brain.

Motherfricker, the Mario movie had infinitely more advertising money than anything Spiderverse related. It was an Illumination movie, they don't play around with that, of course more "normal people" watched it, their kids were probably screaming their heads off about wanting to watch it. Hell, even Nintendrones were more aware of it thanks to Nintendo directly advertising it via their directs, it's a fricking TIE IN to a new THEME PARK AREA, of fricking course more people were going to watch it than the sequel to the sleeper hit cartoon capeshit movie from 2018.

I don't understand why Cinemaphile loves revisionism nowadays. Yes, the fricking comic book movie from the studio who's last big movies at the time were Hotel Transylvania 3 and The Emoji Movie. People were hopeful, but unsure of it at the time. Disney assumed they secured the Best Animated piece easily either with WIR2 and Incredibles 2, the former had Oscar Winner labels printed all over it assuming they had it in the bag, ITSV was a textbook sleeper hit. Goddamn.

It was also up against Aquaman and Bumblebee which both had positive buzz. I remember hoping it would do well enough to not slam the door on all animated cape movie in the future.

Use your brain dumbass. Do you really think it made more because more normal adults went to see it? Do normal adults go to see Minions in the theater? It made more money because it was a better kids movie than Spider-verse. Illumination has proven time and time again that kiddie movies sell.

Illumination films have always made shittons. They know how to sell to kids first and foremost. Doesn't mean spiderverse isn't doing well, it's aiming for slightly older audiences and is playing more like a positively recieved cbm.

Sorry to break this to you but Spiderverses box office just shows that people still don't care about animation, even IF it's Spiderman (the biggest capeshit IP in existence). The first film showed that pretty well as well. People don't take the medium serious.

Anons might call you a shill but I've noticed that most of the artists on social media who worked on it have said positive things.

You’re right. I’m calling you both shills. Try to be less obvious and pay your fricking animators. The directors for this movie are monsters.

Well, I guess I am not made for this. I'll settle for a smaller sized firm with less demanding clients and lesser strict and stressful deadlines.

I WANNA WORK ON THIS PRESTIGUOUS FILM PROJECT BUT YOU HAVE TO ALSO RESPECT MY WORK LIFE BALANCE IT CANT BE THAT I CANT WORK ON THIS WORKING 40HRS (Read: 10hrs work + 30hrs hallway chatting) THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE I AM ENTITLED TO WORK ON THIS PRESTIGUOUS PROJECT!!

It's reassuring to see that not only the works these people make are for children, but that they themselves are still children, too. Big law lawyers have the brains to just call it quits if they don't feel like the industry suits them. Animators? Nope. It's not "me", it's "them".

What I get from this post is that you believe that self-proclaimed adults have no accoutability for their actions. They are too immature to quit a "toxic" work environment on their own but instead need someone to change the environment for them. Aren't you supposed to be a grown up? Why do you require this much hand-holding, then?
