Truth be told, he's still one of my favorite artists, despite the grooming. I'm tempted to say the "animation community" has a K Derangement Syndrome and it's pathetic to watch.

I disagree with the narrative that "John K set the industry back" though, Ren and Stimpy's initial success is part of why there was a big boom of creator driven cartoons in the 90s/00s, the reason things have declined so much into 80s tier standards is because executives are morons who don't understand why things work and old habits die hard.
The industry has reverted back to what Bakshi complained about when people viewed Disney as god in animation. You basically need more Bakshi types who are willing to take a risk and tell actual stories. As technically it was Bakshi that broke the 80s tier standard mold and it was from Mighty Mouse that many of the great tv cartoons came about. Even John K admitted to that, without Bakshi you don't have Ren and Stimpy.
