just finished this. i think I can safely say its one of the best written stories in tv history. its a shame they didn't get the extra seasons/budget they needed to tie up a few loose story lines. I feel a bit empty now that its over.

Did you watch the movies and Crusade?
I have them, but after reading the synopsis's I'm not particularly interested in those storylines, I really wanted to see how the The Drakh storyline ends and I wanted to see Bester get his comeuppance. Also I'm hesitant to start Crusade because I know it gets cancelled early and it'll just leave me even more blueballed.
I was apprehensive about the planned reboot at first but if J Michael Strancisky is back as showrunner, maybe it'll actually turn out good.
You sbould definitely watch In the Beginning
And At All Costs
>I was apprehensive about the planned reboot at first but if J Michael Strancisky is back as showrunner, maybe it'll actually turn out good.
there will definitely be trannies and other weird shit going in in the reboot
Delenn will be a man
unfortunately a possibility considering Straczynski worked on sense8 and it was full of troony propaganda
>he doesn't know
that was my point it was only not done for technical reasons and possibility someone told him it was weird as frick and the audience wouldn't like it
imagine now
In earth final conflict they cast women as agendered aliens.
there's every reason to think that JMS did that to then have the same plot of turning into a half-human with the addition of being female too
doesn't surprise me
unironically imagine what he'd be like now given a free reign
There's also some stuff out there about Straczynski having wanted G'Kar to be transformed into a female Narn at one point and seduce Londo - apparently he even went as far as commissioning the prop makers to make some fake breasts to Katsulas' measurements before he was talked out of it
It is really good, even the 90sness of the moralizing can't bring it down.
It truly is.
is it worth watching after first ones leave? mars shit is boring as hell
yeah I had no clue where they would go after it seemed like they had tied up the main shadow war plotline but it actually remains consistent in quality and ties up a lot of other storylines
Yeah, second half of s4 is still good - first half of s5 is the worst part of the entire series, second half of s5 is really good
Yes. S4 is fast because it was essentially two seasons crammed into one, but that's a good thing a show like Babylon 5 which moved at glacial pace. There's even a "future history" bit at the end of S4 and you can just leave the show there if you want.
Stop caring. That’s literally all you have to do.
Just imagine this G'Kar everytime you get mad, sad, anxious, jealous, etc.
Didnt it kind of copy DS9 and they way DS9 had a space station and an overall story arc?
No one can agree who copied who. I mean, they are both on a station and both have a war with a sinister elitist enemy but apart from that nothing is the same
Kek, yea star trek just so happened to come up with a space station hub show by themselves shortly after meeting JMS and turning him down. And it was just a coincidence it had so many of the same plot points like the captain being the religious chosen one who has a destiny from some prophecy
it was the wise choice. They saw that B5 alone was not gonna be a commercial success, so they took what they recognized was a good storyline, and slapped the Star Trek franchise on it in order to drag in an already loyal fanbase.
i doubt it, because j michael straczynski had his storyline planned out and written long before DS9 was even a thing I'm pretty sure. and even if there are similarities, and as a person who likes DS9 a lot and considers it one of his favorite shows, the story of B5 is just more coherent and planned out and better written, as opposed to the sort of ass pull that the Founders storyline was with DS9.
I think the fact he had the entire storyline written out is what makes managing all the character changes because of actors departing all the more impressive. A lesser script would've crumbled under such drastic changes.
every character had a "trapdoor" written if the actor needed to vanish
Replacing the leading man because the actor went mental must have been one of the toughest things to deal with.
Allegedly Straczynski pitched B5 to Paramount, who turned it down - then 6-12 months later DS9 was announced shortly after B5
Other way around, DS9 straight up ripped off B5
DS9 ripped off B5, but it was a good thing in the end because we got two kino shows out of the same story.
it's up there
it never quite feels satisfying. It sort of reminds me of SG1 in that way like big storylines and wars never quite felt like that happened but I imagine that's largely a budgetary issue
also almost all of the humorous scenes are cringey and awkward
Must have been weird for Jeff Conaway to do the substance abuse talk scene with Girabaldi considering he was near the peak of his own substance abuse issues when it was filmed. I wonder if the scene was written just for him
Definitely felt that way
the voyager writers would write things in like the actors getting fat.
So that's why he acted weird. I thought he was just a wooden actor.
He looks like complete shit in season 5
I liked the episode where Ivanova had a gangbang to make peace between two conflicting tribes
Best and worst actors on the show?
Worst for me is this woman who plays the Mars resistance leader - it's almost like she's reading her lines off an autocue, just terrible. Tracy Scoggins is also shit imo, and I'd probably follow shortly after with Jerry Doyle who was mostly terrible at acting, just had a good role.
Best for me would be Peter Jurasik closely followed by Katsulas - Mira Furlan shortly after.
forgot pic
Bruce Boxleitner was good in his scenes, better than Michael O'Hare though O'Hare had a weird gravitas to him
They were just supposed to be very different in terms personality and characters. They simply happened to fill the same role.
well yeah
Sinclair begins the series as the Minbari's b***h boy
Sheridan starts out as suspicious of them
I liked that, how they replaced a departed character with someone very different instead of someone similar.
Yeah I think Boxleitner was really good as a motivational leader - felt his range isn't amazing though, he does inspiring and angry pretty well, but didn't feel he was so good in the emotional scenes
my mind totally blanked on "mars resistance leader" until I saw the image. that's how forgettable she was.
tbf she only briefly appears in about three episodes during the shadow war and then briefly again in one or two in s5 if i remember rightly
>it's another 'Londo cheats at gambling with his penis' episode
watched till sesson 3. pretty mediocre
Congratulations and welcome to the fold.
Watching it again, it feeks kinda weird how many 20th Century references there are in the dialogue given it's set around 2260.
I mean, I get why, but I honestly don't expect people to remember who Helen Keller was to the point you can reference her in conversation in 2260.
To say nothing of this monstrosity
It's a human God, you alien heathen.
typical scifi issue
only way to get around it is to either make the show less human culture-centric or throw in some made up later pop culture references. Red Dwarf actually does this well where the characters make confused 20th century cultural references and then reference things in their time that is understandable as a thinly veiled reference to something at the time the show was written
B5 often does stuff like, "oooh, to use a human phrase..." it's funny I suppose but makes it ridiculous that humans have such a cultural pull when they're such newcomers to the galactic stage
Reminder that Cinemaphile was, is, and always shall be, a PURPLE board.
after all this time we got nothing comparable, this show is truly something special if you look past the dated sets.
Up yours, die!
We will not get anything like Babylon 5 ever again until we cure woke/SJW cancer. I'm glad JMS created the show in the 90s, now it will be plagued by woke diversity crap.
did you not read
Delenn was a woman and is still a woman. I don't give a frick about coulda woulda shoulda.
>Le everyman leader
>Le Wooden delivery quip chick
>Le Autistic know it all doctor
>Le Klingon, Romulan, and Cardassian stand-in races
>Le Comic Relief Security Chief
>Le "My tone"
Butthurt detected.
Waiting for the reboot. It will be bad, but still waiting. I read somewhere that it's supposed to come out in late 2023, haven't heard about them starting to film yet though, so idk.
