R.I.P. you magnificent bastich.
Did he like the Blue Beetle movie at least?
Imagine Blue Beetle being the last movie you ever get to watch in your lifetime. Grim.
On his YouTube show he said he doesn’t care about superhero movies since on the comics matter
Frick.

rip
NO!
Man, he will be missed!
That's a shame. JLI is still one of my favorite runs in comics.
Rip
Frick, I've been reading JLI for the first time and loving it. RIP, what a legend.
Man, I even liked his stuff that didn't sell!
F.
At least he didn't go put like a series he was writing.
FRICK
GODDAMMIT
I WAS LITERALLY READING LEGION LIKE LAST WEEK
WHY
>Giffen is dead
>Gerard Jones is still allowed to live
Frick this gay earth.
I'd rather be dead than be busted for CP
Between LoSH, JLI, and maybe Ambush Bug Giffen's honestly had a very large influence on me and the style of superhero stories I like and how I write in general.
Reminder that The Great Darkness Saga happened at the height of the Legion's popularity and Darkseid being the villain was a huge twist. That story and its popularity is more or less the entire reason that Darkseid is now more or less DC's final boss, without it (and without Giffen and Levitz) he would have remained yet another of Kirby's semi-obscure 1970s creations.
Of course he's responsible for reviving cosmic Marvel as well.
Annihilation and the first year or so of the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle series.
>Reminder that The Great Darkness Saga happened at the height of the Legion's popularity and Darkseid being the villain was a huge twist. This is no exaggeration. The Great Darkness Saga both solidified Legion of Super-Heroes as DC's #2 seller after Titans, and turned Darkseid into the BIG FRICKIN' DEAL type character that he remains to this day.
Frick man, I knew about Lobo and Rocket Raccoon, but not Darkseid. I really need to read cosmic DC and Marvel. Lobo and Darkseid in Superman TAS were spot-on and I could use more of them in the comics. Though Legion seems a little intimidating to read since it's pretty old.
Funny how he later grew to regret Darkseid's overuse as an alien invader and created Lady Styx so that other writers could just use her instead if they didn't have a really great Darkseid story to tell, but in the end he was the only one who did.
Huh. That explains why she was such a prevalent part of 52 when I had never really heard of her before. Neat.
wow
what he do for marvel?
relaunched the cosmic line with Annihilation that lead to the DnA written Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova books.
Damn that sucks.
F
RIP
Frick, 70's pretty good tho for a comic pro. Legend.
Not the main man
I’m really sad

Back to Cinemaphile, DBSpic.
Uhm sweaty, hispanics love jli
It's basically the reason why my Hispanic country loves still dc comics to this very day
Then I'm glad I specified DBSpic, anybody honoring Giffen is right by me. That tripgay is a tourist who's only on Cinemaphile to fight for animu honor in death battle threads.
Didn't know that, is the JLI translation any good? I'm curious, amigo.
The one that made it famous was pretty divisive because the translator(who went on to became one of the biggest comics "journalist" in the country) made it very local, and even translated a lot of the superhero names, like blue beetle was named "bicho azul", but some people remember it very fondly, it was basically the foundational stone for the "modern" superhero comics fanbase here in Argentina. And to this day DC still outsells marvel. Ovnipress(the local DC publisher) just published pic related like a month ago
I should check it out just for curiosity then, I heard of Blue Beetles old translated name before , surprised that it was from JLI. I once had the silly idea that they should have gone with something even more silly like Blue Bicho.
Callate wey

Wtf. Shit.
Not a fan of his work, but he was a real one.
Brought some more attention to Jose Munoz, and I'm grateful for that.

I found out about him buying the Dr.Fate mini as an kid, love this work very underrated artist, RIP.

damn, that's a tough one
Frick that sucks.

Justice League 3000 was kino
Never heard of him.
Lurk more.
Jaime did debut in Infinite Crisis. Doesn't mean Johns and Jimenez created him.
Worthy of Monty Python
This definitely came out of his mouth in a hospital bed.
his family posted it according to his wishes as his final joke
Sumb***h got us one last time.
Probably not. Cognition and language are both hard hit by strokes, which is what killed him.
No he was quite lucid up to his passing, it was his motor skills that went south and he couldn't draw anymore which crushed his spirit.
Please have a nice day.
You too.
I think your taking this too seriously. Calm down lmao
>dude just like...not care about things lmao

What a fraggin' bastich.

Rest in Peace you Magnificent Bastard
Don't besmirch this man's memory by posting AIslop
What a madlad
Man...
You think he came up with something for his tombstone?
Legend
RIP legend
So wait hes alive
I'm not as familiar with his most known works (outside of the first few issues of JLI) as I should be, but I'll always respect him for being behind one of my favorite lesser known mini-series, The Heckler.
And how many could go out in such a brilliant manner? RIP man, you deserve the rest.
Who?

I really ought to read '08 Marvel Cosmic
Yes, sorry it bumped some shitty cartoon thread off the page homosexual
>we're in a world where comic book fanboys and writers are one and the same
>who knows when we'll get something as great as Lobo, JLI again
that was a lot of my childhood. I love his sense of humor and mimicked some of it. comics will never be as based again. thanks, main man. RIP Keith Giffen
Bwa ha ha ha ha !!
>>we're in a world where comic book fanboys and writers are one and the same
We've been in that world since the 60s
well the fanboys turned into funboys if you get what Im fraggin' sayin'
He introduced the modern GotG and they were never as good again.
Ewing's run is pretty good
Control yourself.
There are two types of people that browse this board. People that read comics and people that watch cartoons. There is no inbetween. As a cartoon fan I have no idea who this person is.
DCAU?
Invincible?
Scott Pilgrim?
Peanuts?
Name one person who watched peanuts and also read the comics.
literally everybody moron
he did some storyboarding for Ed, Edd & Eddy, there's your cartoon reference. are we allowed to be sad now?
Why are you sad? Excuse me if I sound harsh, but you didn't personally know this person, so why would you care? You can still pay respects, but don't be a baby about it.
You don't know everybody
>You can still pay respects, but don't be a baby about it.
It's sad that people like Gifffen die while scum like you stay alive
Sorry for not caring about someone i don't know.
>come into thread, clueless
>anon give you hints
>double down on your moronation
anybody sensible would have said F & left after the second point
but I've got notes on where we are
What hints? He wrote a few comics?
Eisner award winning comic book creator Keith Giffen is probably best known for his work on the Legion of Superheroes or his Justice League International, but he also created Lobo, co-created Rocket Raccoon, put together the team that became the modern Guardians of the Galaxy, and more. The man put a good 40 years into the comic book industry and created a bunch of lasting additions to pop culture. He even lived to see Jaime Reyes on the big screen. His work should be celebrated. If you want to be shitty just pick another thread.
Hey, he also drew kek
But anyways, you know you don't have to post in every thread, right? You can leave if you don't give a frick, It's fine
Maybe i'd care if I read his stuff as a kid. As it stands, i'm complety unsympathetic
You should be sorry and you aren't, and worst of all you said you were. That's the difference between you and people who matter.
It's not that you don't care about someone you don't know. It's that you're going around calling people who do babies. I'm sorry your parents don't give you enough attention and you have to come here to seek it
Keith died a comic book legend. No one will even know your name.
So what? Just go to another thread and cry about Alex Hirsche or something.
Not true, Cinemaphile is currently made up of the following.
>50% cartoongays
>30% Cinemaphile tourists
>16% /misc/asites
>3% Mexican Spider-Spammers
>1% people who actually read and want to talk about comic books
Cinemaphile tourists come here to discuss shit like family guy or maybe their "kinos".
Most "cartoon fans" on here don't even care about cartoons. They either only talk about shows for literal children or have 1 specific show they obnoxiously hyper-obsess over.
I do both the frick are you on about
You should.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0317493/
Stop being so closed minded, people can do both. You also forget the anons that don’t do either and just come to complain or post NSFW stuff
One of the greats. No words.
That's nice. Shame there's two different media in the board title. You'll just have to seethe, I guess.
>Keith Giffen

WHO'S GOING TO STORYTIME GIFFEN COMICS?
frick man, there was just a nice jli thread a few weeks ago that got me rereading it too.

RIP
Frick, man.
Thank you for JLI and Legion.
damn, and I was reading JLI literally last night in bed.
How come people say he created Jaime Reyes? I thought he debuted in Infinite Crisis.
The same way James Robinson created Jack Knight even though he first appeared on Zero Hour
Giffen and Cully Hamner created the character/concept with the intent on launching a new series. Johns wrote his appearance in Infinite Crisis as a way to set it up
F
I hate comics.
aw man, this guy was frickin legendary. Some really great stuff. RIP <3

Then he repackaged parts of L.E.G.I.O.N. for Annihilation: Conquest Starlord and created the modern Guardians of the Galaxy
>created the modern Guardians of the Galaxy
Welp, James Gunn better pay homage to him.
RIP
Others have already mentioned all of his DC work, but let's not forget that without him there never would have been a modern Guardians of the Galaxy.
A man of taste.
And now Thanos is dead and Death retired and left Marlo in her place for real while she lives in Rick Jones apartment.
Not even Deadpool knows she is there as the rest of the Universe minus Rick and the entity of Life.
>Death retired and left Marlo in her place for real while she lives in Rick Jones apartment
What the actual frick.
The Rick Jones Genis-Vell Run post Immortal Hulk Written by PAD, is not bad but it was cut short.
It turns out Death wasn't only dying from her previous run at Jane Foster's comic, she was tired of being Death, Marlo Returns as Rick is back as Captain Marvel due to him finding the nega bands to save his life after his encounter with the green door thanks to Sterns left his body phase out of existence, Also the Life entity exists, and she is a housewife Milf Black woman who really cares for her, and works on a Flower and Gardening Store, and JAzinda is revealed to be alive after the events of SWORD taking her captive since she escaped and Abigail Brand is a complete moron.
Death almost dies again due to Vox Supreme almost taking her and Marlo taking control of her powers, but is restored by her sister Life and she reveals that she can't take being death anymore after all that happened to her recently, on which Marlo, Jazindam Life and Rick seeing that she is speaking the truth, Marlo knowing how Death feels asks to be her replacement while Death finally gets her rest and retirement, on which Rick and Gennis reluctantly agrees knowing that they wont see her again for a longtime.
Death as of now is retired and since Marlo took her place, she obviously changed sides with Marlo on the living world, and living on Rick Gennis house since then, which is implied.
That's insane
Read the entire run, its is just 5 issues, it isn't bad, but again it sucks that gennis was forgotten again instead of him and phyla working together.
i need to know which comic this is
damn, i thought this was DnA who wrote these
They wrote the ongoing, but Giffen set the team up by ripping off plot points from his event Invasion! back in 1989.
In both titles, a person assembles a team in a prison and help stop the Dominator/Phalanx threat. After the conflict, the leader establishes a space policing force.
L.E.G.I.O.N. was incredibly cynical and a for-profit police force however.
And then Giffen used the setup from his Annihilation event for 52 wtih Lady Styxx and the Stygian Passover.
it happened in the genis-vell PAD comic that came out last year
I really liked how he wrote Peter, not even DnA did their Peter like Giffen did.
Nah, DnA just did Annihilation Conquest event but Keith did the Star-Lord tie-in.
You know that shit is going to get ignored.
F
>it's real

Watch, only now DC remembers the Legion exists and does a Great Darkness Saga adaptation.
If they had sense they'll boot bendis sick out and hype up a new ongoing or a mini with them instead of sitting on them for 5 more years.

Greatest superhero comedy writer of all time?
Absolutely. I can't believe Ambush Bug isn't collected.
There was a Showcase that collected everything although that was black and white.
Who else would even be in contention for that title?
Ben edlund I guess? he wrote the Tick
I'd make an argument for Peter David.
Checked
Doesn't he do more supernatural dramas?
I mean, Chris Giarusso is no slouch in that department.
Absolutely
Reminder, Giffen worked on the first issue of Alan Moore'S Supreme. He did the flashback panels.
Neat! I love supreme
That's actually a cool bit of trivia. Thanks for posting that.

bros, how do you cope with death? I just can't, everytime I am self-conscious about it I feel like everything is devoid of feeling. I don't know what to do, and when it's people I really liked their work or presence, I feel more empty than usual. I'm anxious about feeling how my death is going to be. Am I a schizo or anyone else feels this? like all our lives are just a short dream?
Just one part of a legendary career- Keith was the backbone of 52, the weekly. He did layouts for the whole book.

The guy was a fricking legend

Woow
I saw this on Facebook and it hit me like a punch to the gut. RIP to one of the greats.
For all the yuks, Griffen also wrote with heart in his stories.
A shame how thoroughly Max has been ruined as a character because Johns couldn't place his head around the idea of Max being a good guy behind his slimey car salesman veneer.
Max as a bad guy works better. Max as a good guy has limited utility.
Ah yes, why be a more original and interesting character when he can be a discount Lex Luthor or Norman Osborne.
He’s neither. But keep b***hing and making stupid statements of faulty opinions
There's not one good Max-is-bad story. Wonder Woman snapping his neck did a lot of longterm damage to her character.
There’s multiple Max is bad stories. And the “damage” to Wonder Woman is nonexistent.
>there's not one good x
>there's multiple x
Anon...
It contributed to the Woman of Murder meme that was with us for years.
So?
Stop man this isn’t the thread for contrarianism and being a c**tish dyke.
Name the good stories
Countdown to Infinite Crisis
Blackest Night: Wonder Woman
Justice League: Generation Lost
New 52 Omac, although iirc he’s in that as a very minor character overall.
You can now gone “NOPE IT SUCKS” and we can be done with this pointless exchange.
I’ve only read Countdown and Blackest Night. Countdown sucked and Blackest Night was nothing special. I heard Omac was good. None of these stories was worth the character assassination of Lord. JLI and the spin-offs shot all over these stories.
>Countdown sucked
Before I insult you, did you misread what he said? The Countdown to Infinite Crisis one-shot is not the weekly series Countdown, later retitled Countdown to Final Crisis.
Which are you saying sucked?
The one-shot. I understand what he was saying. And I stand by saying Countdown sucked
You have bad taste.
Lord was better in JLI. Simple as.
Nta but yes, the oneshot prelude to Inifinte Crisis sucked.
WW was less damaged by it and more a symptom of DC having completely lost sight of who WW is.
Max was a fricking disaster though.
Wasn't Johns, it was Didio and the DC creative retreats they used to do.
They needed a big bad manipulator for Countdown to IC, had set everything up to be Loren Jupiter, then pulled the plug and went with Max instead.
>Wasn't Johns
Are you moronic?
Are you? Johns wrote Countdown to IC and the IC miniseries but the overarching story direction and major plot beats for everything from Graduation Day through Infinite Crisis was decided by committee. This was common knowledge.
Which he was part if. Stop trying to absolve these hack writers of blame.
Now that's comedy.
F
F
I feel like this was coming for a few years now since he's been sick but it still sucks. This guy was never properly appreciated, the love for JLI feels so artificial to me and it annoys me that it completely overshadowed his wonderful works in the 90s that were pretty much all canceled early. He was cool, man, Ragman was soooooo good, Vext was a blast and recently Larfleeze was criminally underrated.
R.I.P.
>This guy was never properly appreciated
The frick are you talking about? He was always very popular and appreciated outside of the controversy where he allegedly ripped off another artist’s style.
>the love for JLI feels so artificial to me
Pray tell, how is it “artificial” exactly?
>and it annoys me that it completely overshadowed his wonderful works in the 90s that were pretty much all canceled early.
Oh nooo the most popular and successful comic he ever did overshadows other work that was less successful!! Boo fricking hoo.
Your entire posts smells like a smug pretentious snob trying too hard to make themselves the only true fan.
>The frick are you talking about?
If you didn't have ADHD, you'd understand from my post. He worked on a lot of comics, particularly in the 90s and early 00s that were unsuccessful and canceled early, Annihilation was his (second) big break.
>Pray tell, how is it “artificial” exactly?
Feels like it has a lot of runs that never read the run or never read a lot of it and just saw random funny panels and pages. And I feel like there's too big of a gap between people that like LoSH or JLI and people that like Giffen in general. Couple of tears back on Cinemaphile people here weren't even giving him credit for Annihilation, DnA was getting all the praise for being the fathers of that era.
You seem angry but I assure you, I do not sanction your impotent manchild fanboy rage and neither would Keef.
>Well he did tons of other less successful comics too!
Yes, and?
>Some people are not as devoted fans as meeeeeeeee
Okay fanboy

They should retire Ambush Bug in his honor. He's Keith's character through and through.

Bad news : giffen is dead
Good news : dc decided to release omnibuses of Ambush Bug since now they don’t have to pay Keith royalties
F
Literally who?
Storytime of Claw the Unconquered. Giffin drew some issues and added sci fi elements to what was a run of the mill fantasy comic.
>Giffen x Grant >>> Giffen x DeMatteis.
Sorry bastiches, someone had to say it.
Bro this fricking trade already cost and arm and a leg. Now it’s gonna be even worse. Frick
They might reprint it if Momoa really inks the deal for the Lobo movie
They're doing a Lobo Compendium some time soon, aren't they?
I don’t buy omnis or compendiums or anything like that. They’re moronic. Hard covers and anything over 600 pages isn’t for reading let alone with comics not made for that format you lose a quarter of the page.
Anyone that buys compendiums automatically comes off as a casual who just wants things for a shelf or table. Like a coffee table book.
Compendiums aren't hardcover. It's a floppy softcover format DC's started doing more of recently. The ones I've got are all a good size and weight (though the two Starman ones are probably a bit too big, and I think they were some of the first they put out). I've had no issues with gutter loss on any of them. No idea how big the Lobo Compendium will be, but hopefully it'll be well put together like the others have been so far.
>Anyone that buys compendiums automatically comes off as a casual who just wants things for a shelf or table. Like a coffee table book.
Well I can guarantee you that I read the comics I buy. And the majority of people (and the anons over in /shelf/ threads) who get omnis are actually buying them to read them, rather than just collecting.
The real shitty collectors are usually those whales over on reddit who any and every oversized hardcover simply because it's got a Marvel or DC logo on the spine, and they think the omnis will look real good wrapped up in plastic on their Ikea shelves sitting next to all their funko pops
There's a very big difference between genuinely having a "dissenting opinion," and acting like an edgy teenage homosexual in a thread announcing someone's death
Well I’ll be, I thought compendiums were HC. What even is the difference between a trade and compendium at this point lol
I still buy mostly floppies. Recently snagged the lobo infanticide back issues actually.
I think the idea is that compendiums fit way more issues into a single book than TPBs, which usually just collect a handful of issues/a single arc or two. This Sandman Mystery Theatre Compendium collects half of that whole run (pics aren't mine btw, I snagged them from Matt Wagner's twitter after a google search). I can't find any information about how big the Lobo Compendium will be or what issues will be collected, but seeing as it's being called the Big Fraggin' Compendium it'll probably be a decent size.
They're honestly becoming my favourite format. A compendium nowhere near as expensive as an omnibus (the RRP is £50 in the UK, but ordering online means you can usually get it for £35), they're not as heavy, the paper they use is quite nice, and DC are using them to collect a lot of good 90s stuff that would otherwise go under the radar.
Yeah, it's kinda crap. Oswalt has nothing to do with Sandman Mystery Theatre aside from being a fan.
Still, at least it's not as bad as my copy of The Incal having a foreword by Bendis AND coming with a sticker on the plastic wrapping proclaiming it's soon to be a film from acclaimed director Taika Waititi
>the spoiler
Frickkkk man I legit had that one in mind with the Bendis comment I made bwah ha ha.
I’ve wanted OG Barbarella for years but KSD not only forewarded that but even ruined translation. Damn portlandians lol.
BWA HA HA HA
I thank god that the sticker was only on the plastic wrapping
I haven't had any problems with the binding on my compendiums so far, nor have I heard of anyone else having problems. They seem pretty sturdy.
> AND coming with a sticker on the plastic wrapping proclaiming it's soon to be a film from acclaimed director Taika Waititi
Jesus Christ, mine has just the Benis foreword
How’s the binding hold up on a jernt like that? Otherwise I’m not hating the format as long as you don’t have the problem of fold loss to the pages. I don’t really resell or anything so I’m not too hung up on spine wear.
>foreward by that dude who killed his wife and was once a tertiary character on a sitcom
Only “foreward by Bendis” or “foreward by Kelly Sue Deconnick” is more of no-buy for me than some fat comedian like smith or Oswalt.
Why not get a foreward by the creators? Most things are a decade or more removed some new perspective from them would be nice.
Sorry, excuse me, when the frick did they come out with a Sandman Mystery Theatre compendium? I have wanted to read the physical run for yeaaars, tell me they have all the issues
This year, better get it while it's out because volume 2 never ever the series is cursed
Back in May, get it NOW
Hopefully they'll do a Vol 2 now we've finally had the first half, and it won't be constantly pushed back in solicits like this first one was
You're thinking of omnibuses. Omnibus collectors are what you described. Compendiums are usually medium sized paperbacks and they're well priced for the amount of pages. Meanwhile Marvel was at one point slapping omnibus on 400 page hardcovers and charging full price.
It was 17 bucks when it came out... for around 300 pages. It was in print for years.
I only recently looked maybe two years ago. It has the new DC logo so maybe we’re thinking something else? Volume 1 is still very accessible they clearly under printed volume 2 though because it was 50 plus resell by the time I looked.
I disagree but Alan Grant was also really great
RIP
>Keith Giffen has died
ah, frick. That's depressing
It’s not about the opinion it’s about you being a baiting homosexual in an RIP thread. Make another thread to have your contrarian take.
Just because you get triggered by someone not agreeing with you does not make it bait or contrarianism, little child.
Frick off to another thread dude, if you had any sort of fricking respect you would. Jesus Christ. I’ll argue with you there.
It’s childish to shit up an RIP thread just to discuss your contrarian opinions.
You should try to grow up. You’re shitting your pants over someone stating a different opinion and then whining about it like a drama queen.
Jannies would have banned you if they cared homosexual, blow your rainbow colored brains out so giffen can slap you down to hell .
Are you legitimately b***hing that you're not allowed to shit on a dead man in his memorial thread? The frick is wrong with you?
Rip
F
Literally Who?
Damn!
F
F
Nah, we're just calling you a lame troll because you're a lame troll.
Now frick off
His Lobo will always be fondly remembered by me.
RIP
Shame. I was a fan of his artwork until he changed his style for the dumbest of reasons at the end of his initial LSH run.
RIP
95% of comic writers are "woketards" by this standard so what are you even doing here
I bet I'd care a lot more if comics weren't shit
Okay, this thread is all kinds of ass, so let's have some quality, shall we?
Thanks for the mini storytime.
Giffen's skill at comedy comics always made me surprised when I read a book of his that is serious and straightforward.
Thank you
You're one of the few tripgays I actually like
F
You have to be 18 to post here.
You do have to wonder how pathetic somebody's life would have to be to make them act out like that, don't you?
A lot of teens confuse obnoxious with funny. What can you do?
Why you cryin?
Anons should I be a soulless bastich and mark up my floppies of the old Lobo mini to capitalize on this or is that too evil
Go for it. NERD
Wait a week and if the market moves the market moves and undercutting it would be the dickish move.
If you know someone is a fan and want to give them a discount (assuming you have a storefront if not this is not applicable) go ahead and do it.
Who?
>Start a podcast called I’m not dead yet
>Do three episodes and then kick the bucket
Now that’s comedy
He had excellent timing
Sad days keep coming.
This was Ambush Bug relaying his origin story
Kek
who
Ah dammit
Loved his comics, especially Lobo. RIP
Holy frick F
Well shit.
By which I mean F.

It's like saying "comics has died"
This kicked me in the gut
Comics are shit. It dying is a good done to this world.
Damn
What?
Read more comics.
It's Oreover

no (you)s today, troll
It's the thought that counts. thanks, sis
When he did the breakdowns for 52 he drew evil skeets with a goatee because goatee=evil
Based Giffen. Nipslop is always improved by a total rewrite, the less faithful the better.
Keith bros
check out his short lived Youtube channel. He only did a few episodes before he got too sick.
I was hoping he would get better and come back for a few more episodes but his story about working at a medical lab at the start of his career is pretty funny
Heckler omni....WHEN
It was only 6 issues Anon. I picked them up at my lcs back issue section
Eventually
>71 years old sickly and scrawny old man who clearly didn't take care of himself
>"VAX VAX THE JAB DID HIM IN"
Bro it's been years, you gotta move on from that vax shit. More people die from undiagnosed diabeetus in a month then all the mRNA-jab-induced myocarditis victims combined
Keith Giffen? More like Keith Giften... because he was a gift.
Boo
He was
Reminder that Giffen is one of the creators responsible for Darkseid being as used and popular as he is
The Great Darkness Saga was such a well done story, it and the iconic reveal cemented LOSH as one of DC's biggest titles in the early to mid 80s alongside NTT and stopped Darkseid from becoming forgotten alongside the rest of Kirby's fourth world stuff and tbh most of Kirby's DC stuff.
Giffen later said he regretted how overused Darkseid became and helped come up with Lady Styx but she flopped
That usually seems to be the case
>Good Writer makes Villain a badass in a good story
>Others come behind and frick it up save for a couple of people
Well it's not all of the shitty posts deleted then, but these awful ones:
are gone
Why are you advocating for posts the janitors don't like getting deleted? A person voicing an opinion you don't like isn't "bait".
GIMME AN AMBUSH BUG COLLECTION YOU buttholeS
F
did this thread get unsticky'd?
Yes. That happens after about a day or two.
Thanks for so many years of Bwha ha happiness, Keith.
? is the man who annihilating
i'm sad
I wish he'd got to do more Trencher, or that one about the home for rabbits.
I grew up with his Justice League International, Legion of Superheroes, Ambush Bug and Omega Men.
I'd have liked more Punx, too.
Didn't he do a run of Doom Patrol?
I vaguely remember a re-imagining of the movie Harvey, except the guy with the invisible rabbit sidekick is a hitman...
>Didn't he do a run of Doom Patrol?
Yes, post-Infinite Crisis which he opened by killing Byrne's Doom Patrol.
Which was super based and then he did an entire arc about the Aristocrats joke.
PunX! That was the book I was trying to recall yesterday. Was it Valiant? There was a character who flew around with a massive ball and chain that was tied to his actual balls. Goofy shit.
Rest in piece
Anyone got any details about the plagiarism charges that Keith faced in the 80s that resulted in DC making him switch from drawing to writing?
He got interested in another artist's art and adapted it a little too well. Groth accused him of plagiarizing because Giffen was one of the biggest names in cape comics and Groth is a miserable frick who hates capes for "ruining" comics.
Really overblown. He really liked the artist and worked his style into his already distinct way of drawing.
Groth was being a huge b***h about it, like artists aren't supppose to be inspired by other artists.
It was more than style. It was directly swiping if not outright tracing.
He swiped a bunch of panels from Munoz's Alack Sinner. He was the only one to directly swipe, but Frank Miller also changed his style for Sin City to be based off Munoz. Giffen was a bit of an art chameleon in his career. Way back when he was working on The Defenders early in his career, he was told to draw like Kirby/Buscema and thus his work looked a lot like that. Giffen's own art style then changed even further away from Munoz as time went on.
DC pulling Giffen off art is a bit of a myth. He continued to write and draw even during those years where he was "exiled." He specifically did the bulk of the art for the Five Years Later Legion of Super-Heroes volume.
You're telling me this is not a Kirby page?
Defenders #48 with Keith Giffen and Dan Green. When Giffen was working with Klaus Janson earlier in the run, the art looked substantially different.
What a change.
One of the funniest changes is that years after he did the art for the Great Darkness Saga, he was hired to redo some of the art. During the original publication, he did not do the art for the small back up stories (LoSH usually ran like 3 stories at a time under Levitz/Giffen). When DC decided that The Great Darkness Saga would be one of their first trades in 1989, they had Giffen redo the art for a story that he had originally not done the art for.
The result was one half of the issue looking like this....
and the other half of the issue looking like his 1989 style.
Then with how the trade is collected, the rest of the art looks like his 1982 work.
>worked on "I LUV HALLOWEEN"
>Did several of those shit localizations for Tokyopop
Rest in piss. Some of the worst dogshit that I ever read.
You know I'm starting to suspect Cinemaphile doesn't actually read comics and therefore doesn't know who Giffen was
Cinemaphile sucks
You only now figured out that this board today only exists for people to do circle jerk threads where they whine about things they aren’t familiar with? The years of bait, endless whining and largely outright hostility to everything has driven out people who actually know and care about things. Now it’s about outrage making threads about black actors and gay/trans characters appearing in one comic
I only come here for /shelf/ and storytimes lol
>/shelf/
The thread where people buy dozen of omnibuses they never read and leave in wrapping? kek, you sure prove that previous guy's point then.
People do this?
Yes
Taking the wrapping off and reading it would only make them decrease in value. It's sensible in a way to buy the book to support it and then just pirate the high quality digital scans/rips.
/shelf/ anons read their books, why are you all just making shit up?
Oh yeah? This guy reads his books?
Literally read the thread:
>I do read them. They were all bagged like that from a move plus it keeps the silverfish out.
Plus, those plastic bags very clearly aren't the sealed tight wrapping that unread omnibuses come in
Most admit that they only read about half of their shelves. Couple of threads back some guy that like 15 Conan omnis but had never read a single one.
> Most admit that they only read about half of their shelves. Couple of threads back some guy that like 15 Conan omnis but had never read a single one
These are both exaggerations. Some guy said he was a half a Conan omni behind, others ‘admitted’ they have a backlog. Everyone who reads any kind of physical books has a backlog.
But keep on with your bullshit.
I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who only buy one book at a time.
frick
his comics were great fun. wish there were more like him. thanks keith.
RIP
imagine giving this much of a shit about battle fricking royale lmao
Video Jack...one of the best minis NOBODY has ever heard of.
You're right, I've never heard of this. I know very few Epic titles in general
Except those of us that actually owned it. Amateur.
For my money, his greatest "ain't nobody heard of this lol" work is PunX.

Huge F, I wanted to see him at dragon con a few years back and missed him. Wish I would've just waited in line
He would've just insulted you.
Thanks, Keith.
... frick, I got a little time to kill, might as well post this script Giffen wrote for Marvel Romance Redux, a highly bizarre experiment in the 00s where a bunch of modern Marvel writers rewrote old romance comics with all kinds of weird and wonderful new stories. How weird, you ask?
Well...
Rest In Peace
He worked with writer of the first Bayformers movie for the 2006 Blue Beetle movie

Is this the end of the golden age of comics?
The golden age was over probably before your parents were born.
One last BWAH-HA-HA! before the thread sages out. Godspeed you legend
