            >it likely got in there when they were blown apart from being combined?
Perhaps so. Or maybe when Jadis was picking her up, as Alli was staring at the shards immediately before.
What I want to know is what is the small thing that Jadis doesn't know/predict. Is this it? Whatever it is, to a literally omniscient being the unexpected cannot be anything other than both horrifying and freeing. Which sets us up for the end-of-book high-tempo scene.

He better not bring cio back. She's a fine character and died a noble death, but resurrecting her be cause they have all the bits AGAIN like its the fricking bug woman dragon balls, leeches all of the emotional payoff from her death.

He's almost certainly going to do it. I thought his post immediately after she died was more of a "just trust me, I'm doing it the right way" but as of the current update it looks a lot like he was actually foreshadowing his intentions of undoing it as soon as narratively possible. Seems kind of hackish but if that's what it takes to get the story moving again then whatever.

Abbadon's been pretty open that his plans for the pacing/progression for this last book has been buggered badly and will be split - so I think yeah you're right but it's either this or abbadon has to release a book twice the normal size in 4 years.

        Anonymous

That naturally leads us to the next problem though: nothing has happened in this book. Jaggy showed up, they tried to beat jaggy, they failed. Great. But the plot hasn’t moved at all from that point. He’s in the same 2 book dilemma here as he was at the beginning of this book. This entire book was spinning it’s wheels plotwise and now the final victory is going to feel rushed and unearned if he tries to do it in the 100 or so pages he has left. I don’t see a path out of this that doesn’t involve a third “final” volume being announced.

We know atleast Incubus still at large leading the Jagg followers, so the fight either went in his favor or a stalemate with Maya escaping.

            Anonymous

            >>jagg's followers are still fighting to destroy the universe even if jagg is taking a time out
Happening offscreen, part of an exposition dump, no actual plot relevance yet. Actually extends the page count as now there’s an entirely new faction subplot that has to be introduced and fleshed out before the end of the story

            >>cio ded
One panel(3 comics if you want to include the buildup and the aftermath). Her resurrection and aftermath is probably going to take up the remainder of pages in this book, if not the next. So yeah, cool idea but for a story that’s theoretically approaching it’s final chapters, not a great fit.

            >>most of the demiurges ded
True, and I did mention this as plot progression.

and maya reunion fight (who won that shit anyways?)
That’s the thing, we don’t fricking know. That’s another subplot that’s going to have to be resolved in the next book. If Maya struts in at the climax going “yeah I won offscreen, incubus is dead, get over it” that’s going to feel unsatisfying as frick. If we spend pages on that shit, that’s pages that would probably be better used resolving the actual plot.

            >>zaid’s back
Zaid is cool and I’m happy his progression isn’t getting left on the cutting room floor. But with how few pages are left are he and Allison even going to get to interact again? And what about that group that he’s a part of? Are they going to get introduced? Will Allison get to spend time with them? Probably not, given how few pages are left. My guess is it’s going to be all characters we know already just to save the exposition. That way we can get right back to solving the dozen other subplots that have to be resolved.

This is the end of the series we’re talking about. We should be on a headlong sprint towards the finish line. Instead the comic is stopping to smell the roses and even planting a few more while it goes.

there's been a timeskip since the jagganoth fight of 3 years, basically. the "book" (i.e. chapter) is ending soon, but the story itself isn't ending yet. Presumably, White Chain's been fighting jagganoth's forces in the meantime.

It's hard for me to really believe this. They've met... three times now? One night at a house party, one day at a tournament, and today. Yes, they were both regular humans thrust into this insane adventure and turned into hardened warriors, as is everyone else around them. I need more scenes with them to really believe they have a genuine bond of understanding.

They don't have to have a genuine bond of understanding for Zaid to have that sort of belief in Allison IMO. He saw her risk her life to save him and he saw her stand up to Jagg with the demiurges. Those grand gestures made an impression on him and I buy that it's enough to give him this sort of conviction.

He saw her at her best and he's holding her to that standard since he saw it with his own eyes. Don't need a deep understanding for that.
