He clearly says he’s talking about older Japanese movies from the 50s and 60s that aren’t easily available in Japan in DVD/Bluray format, as a way to promote them to younger people who aren’t familiar with them because of the unavailability in physical format as well as in streaming platforms inside Japan. He’s talking about native classics in order to hopefully get more young people to see and appreciate them. Pseud fricks like you need to shut up

you would probably say that about literally anything that Criterion has released
I'm not even a Criterion dickrider (we've all seen how they've butchered shit with their ~~*director-approved*~~ cuts and shitty color grading), but all of those movies are highly-regarded for good reason (except Woman in the Dunes; god what a boring piece of shit that is)

It's cool that he claims to love films and he actually watches real films. He's not like Matt Reeves, who borrows from the most obvious sources because he's never watched a movie that wasn't a blockbuster.

I fricking love hideo kojima. I love his games. I love the gameplay. I love the characters he creates to represent his ideas. I love the classic action movie hero of MGS1 and his stark contrast with the postmodern homosexual coming of age crisis that is MGS2. I love Snake Eater for marking the beginning of the end of the series even though it was a prequel. Metalngear solid tied up enough lose ends to make me happy. Metal gear solid 5 was the pinnacle of gameplay and the nadir of storytelling but it had a nice titty waifu and fun multiplayer so its in my top 5 of all time. The metal gear solid series introduced me to the military industrial complex, nihilism, the fallacy of patriotism, and the great oceanic curtain that blinds of from the evils of the capitalist machine responsible for giving americans the best quality of life. I love the concept of death stranding even though I found the gameplay boring and the story convuluted and messy because it accurately reflects our modern western life of staying indoors permanently and ordering in as the world dies around us from the pollution we create to produce the things we consume. We are all just holograms interacting with each other as we consume resources and yearn for connection.

I ain't seen any of those besides Seven Samurai, and I saw that maybe 14 years ago with my pops. Was very young. I think watching this mainly made me think how it's a shame he only makes games once every six year snow instead of once every four. MGS1, 2, 3, and 4 were back to back to back to back. I need more of this guy's creations in my life.

hes never been a big fan of video games

but he did invent the stealth genre with Metal Gear, the MGS games are all fun to play. and while some ideas are half baked the delivery and social elements of death stranding were pretty unique. More than what a lot of other director's can say

He’s a ludo machine, and has been since the early days. Metal Gear 2, Snatcher, Policenauts, Metal Gear Solid 1-3, Zone of the Enders and Death Stranding are all some of the best games ever made. It’s ironic that he gets slandered with the accusation of making movie games, outside of the lengthy cutscenes everything he’s made has excellent gameplay and interactivity. He really brings the best of both worlds together, and uses his love of film to inform some of the most interesting choices in game design going.
