I believe Penders wanted Sega involved as an opening to sue them (and Bioware, maybe) for Sonic Chronicles. Remember, this entire thing started with people pointing out to Ken that the stuff in Chronicles was similar to his Archie concepts.

My biggest gripe regarding Penders and Chronicles, is that the game came out BEFORE he started copyrighting his shit.
Thus, he has no right to say they were ripping him off, because even if Bioware indeed took "his" ideas and adapted them for a game, due to his WFH all of them belonged to Sega at the moment, therefore they didn't owe me neither money nor a mention in the credits.
Honestly, how fricked up the legal system must be for the judge to not throwing out the case due to that, rather than because of the statute of limitations as it was the case?

To give more context, long after he left Archie, Penders learned the comics he worked on were going to be reprinted, thus he asked if he was going to get any revenues for the reprints (a fair question). He either got a negative or no response at all, which eventually led to him to ask for a copy of his original WFH contract (probably to double check if he could appeal).
Archie told him they didn't have his contract anymore. It was after this that Penders, under the advice (if not influence) of his wife, started his copyright stunt, which eventually led to the Archie lawsuit.

It's not just that; Penders colors things digitally like he's trying to prove that you can't tell the difference between his art and 3D renders. The only problem is that the 3D renders he's pretending to copy are from the fricking 90s.

I think a big issue is the ugly airbrush he thinks is shading. It's a real amateur mistake first time digital artists make where they think it's an automatic shading tool. You can definitely make these stylized characters work and it's not very difficult, there's hundreds of junior artists in mobile game companies who pull this look off daily. He needs to learn about value buildup or shading with layer masks and also think about where the light is coming from
Another example how you can paint with values to make a character look 3D without loosing the cartoon appeal. This homie needs to look up some drawing tutorials on youtube

I think that's giving Penders too much credit. In his delusions, he probably thought Sega would side with him, seeing him as the pivotal man behind Sonic's success in the West.
I believe Penders wanted Sega involved as an opening to sue them (and Bioware, maybe) for Sonic Chronicles. Remember, this entire thing started with people pointing out to Ken that the stuff in Chronicles was similar to his Archie concepts.
Penders also seems to believe Bioware wanted to directly adapt his work for Chronicles.
He has not said it as such, but he always mentions the one time in a 2007-2008 Con when "Bioware people wanted to talk with me, but I wasn't in my booth, so they only greeted my wife and son".

To give more context, long after he left Archie, Penders learned the comics he worked on were going to be reprinted, thus he asked if he was going to get any revenues for the reprints (a fair question). He either got a negative or no response at all, which eventually led to him to ask for a copy of his original WFH contract (probably to double check if he could appeal).
Archie told him they didn't have his contract anymore. It was after this that Penders, under the advice (if not influence) of his wife, started his copyright stunt, which eventually led to the Archie lawsuit.

This is what happens when you take a writer/artist and place them in a genre they know absolutely nothing about.
He's way too fixated on adding as much detail as possible to cartoon characters who don't need it.
It's not just that; Penders colors things digitally like he's trying to prove that you can't tell the difference between his art and 3D renders. The only problem is that the 3D renders he's pretending to copy are from the fricking 90s.

I think a big issue is the ugly airbrush he thinks is shading. It's a real amateur mistake first time digital artists make where they think it's an automatic shading tool. You can definitely make these stylized characters work and it's not very difficult, there's hundreds of junior artists in mobile game companies who pull this look off daily. He needs to learn about value buildup or shading with layer masks and also think about where the light is coming from
The shading on that sonic is slightly too realistic and it's off putting.
Another example how you can paint with values to make a character look 3D without loosing the cartoon appeal. This homie needs to look up some drawing tutorials on youtube
