I'm of the opinion that most people in charge of Star Wars look at it like there's no shortage of morons that like this trash as a kid and will continue to pay out the ass for more of it. But instead of looking at Star Wars or it's fans and trying to figure out what it is that make it so memorable or engaging over the years they take position of something like 'Hey, kids that watched Clone Wars cartoon are probably adults now let's get that guy to make something for this generation of adults, let's get the guy that made the cartoon. in 10-15 years they'll retry JJ and Rian era shit to repackage to kids that watched the sequels and just saw cool lasers and ships and thought it was cool.

Why does he wear the hat?

Ahsoka has no reason to still be alive. Her character journey was finished in season 5 of the cartoon. The only reason she lived on is because Filoni can't let go of his waifu OC.
Sabine is a fricking awful character. Mandalorian + legendary artist + royalty + mechanic + inventor + strong pilot + strong duelist + indestructible plot armor + bacta tank + Jedi. And for all that of that, she's an annoying charisma vacuum. She can arbitrarily can use force telekinesis to the level even Luke couldn't in ESB despite specifically having 0 force sensitivity before that. And maybe worst of all nobody calls her out for essentially setting up Thrawn's return, which is bizarre in the same setting where Anakin got a whole trilogy about how wrong it is for him to create a great evil just because he cared about someone.
Shin and Baylan are barely characters. People like them because cute anime-looking grill and good male actor but in terms of characterization these are nothingburgers. Why did Baylan fight Ahsoka again? "I can't let you interfere", interfere with what? Baylan was on his way doing other stuff, there was no reason for a rematch. No story reason, just action figures being mashed against each other.
Thrawn is a perfect example of a director thinking he can manipulate an audience into thinking something that has 0 basis in actions or events, but is constantly reinforced through tone and framing and words. Thrawn is treated as this super smart mastermind but he's a joke who can't kill 3 sitting ducks with an entire star destroyer at his disposal, and he just pretends to win every time even when he loses.
The whole Ahsoka show is style no substance. Sure, you have these characters holding their lightsabers in the duels like it's some samurai movie and they all make serious expressions, but I cannot think of any dialogue or character work worth a damn in this show. There's barely any story. It's just very expensive fanfic.

Its so fricking cringe that there are SW fans who think that Anakin having a jailbait waifu childsoldier as a padawan fighting Maul with a robot wiener is CANON and TRUE. Look, I did watch some of CW, I get the appeal, it could maybe work if the great ideas (Anakins characterization, Mauls underusage) would not be buried under a villain-of-the-week cartoon for 8 year olds.

And that's why Ahsoka didn't work as well, these non-canon entities are made into live action without any self-control. Seriously, why have all those fricking stoic Rebel characters in it? Focus on making this shit believable, you got another chance selling the jailbait waifu padawan but you dropped the fricking ball again. At least there were nice ass shots.
