Could it be that Gunn... cares???? Eh, i still feel nothing towards this movie. I guess the capeshit fatigue fully caught me. Don't really look forward to anything these days. Kinda sad.

It's just a rip off of True Grit but in space. It's probably one of the best Tom King comics due to the fact that he copies so much from a much better writer.

It's an easy way to score Cred with a certain crowd. Now the plot is free to be woke, and all the characters some shade of Doofus/Loser/butthole like all of Gunn's Superflicks, but there won't be complaints about blackwashing.

          The Engineer - butthole
          Supergirl - butthole and Loser
          Superman - Doofus

Anyone crying about Superman being woke has never read a Superman story.

I must have missed the issues where Superman blames all the world's problems on white men and demands affirmative action for the sake of making racial quotas.

        Anonymous

        >Now the plot is free to be woke
Everything I'm hearing about the plot makes it sound like an inverse of Superman vs the Elite where the current DCU superhero community is filled with tacticool military agents working for the government or "morally grey" edgelords willing to do horrible shit for the sake of the world while Superman is going to be an outlier in that he takes an optimistic and hopeful approach in being a superhero who prioritizes the safety of everyone and isn't willing to kill villains.

So basically it's going to be a frick you towards capeshit like the Snyder films or The Boys.

Yeah but that's not necessarily what I want out of Supergirl.

I don't necessarily mind them doing a more serious Supergirl, though I prefer a version that at least tries to be more friendly and optimistic, on the surface at least, but I'm worried they're going to go too far in the opposite direction and just give us Rule 63 Snyder-man.

This is what's called a "comparison," where someone in an argument compares your statement to an equivalent statement that is patently absurd in order to disprove or discredit the original statement.

You are judging how Alwiener will play Supergirl based on how she played a character that isn't Supergirl (moreover, you are basing this opinion on disjointed clips, which is itself plain foolish). It's just as silly as assuming Huge Jackedman would play Wolverine exactly the same as his stage musical characters, or that Chris Pratt would play Star-Lord exactly the same as Andy Dwyer.

You don't judge how an actor will play a character based specifically on how they played a different character, you judge their ACTING SKILLS based on how WELL they played that different character. A good actor will be able to play different characters.

No it isn't, that's idiots arguing against a strawman they have propped up to make themselves look intelligent.

                >You don't judge how an actor will play a character based specifically on how they played a different character, you judge their ACTING SKILLS based on how WELL they played that different character. A good actor will be able to play different characters.
And like I said, multiple actors just play themselves or play the same character all the time anyway. Should we give her a chance? Sure. But my concerns aren't exactly 100% unfounded either.

                Anonymous

They are 100% unfounded, I'm afraid. You're worried she's going to be a grim and dour Supergirl in a lighthearted optimistic movie because she played a grim and dour character in a grim and dour show. That's outright nonsensical.

We don't know if WoT is going to be lighthearted and optimistic when the book itself is fairly dark for a Supergirl book.

I thought the whole point of this version of Supergirl is that she's more cynical and serious due to her upbringing to contrast how Superman is optimistic and hopeful?

      >Bloated cast
This is by far my biggest worry. Gunn is very good with team movies but considering this is supposed to be a solo movie, it's very weird that there's so many characters in this movie. That and Gunn has already said that none of the characters are cameos, which would work better, in my opinion. I don't see how they can balance exploring and developing Superman's character, Lois Lane, and other staples like Jimmy Olsen, and the Kents, while also developing the villain, and showing us Metamorpho, Terrifc, Hawkgirl, the Engineer, AND Supergirl.

fortunately actors are not soulbound by an ancient blood curse to play the same exact character as their first big break and can in fact make different acting choices when playing different characters

True but we don't know how similar she's going to be to her role in HotD. She could kill it or she could play essentially the same role for all we know. Plenty of actors basically just play the same role in every movie.
