Not to mention he was a workaholic (12-14 hours daily for 6 or even 7 days a week) and had no issues working the graveyard shift. He said he earned $300-350 a week and "sometimes even more when l do it off the meter". If we take $350 as an average and calculate with 52 weeks that's $18,200 annually. I didn't do any thorough research but that's roughly +50% more than what the average Joe earned in the mid-70s' transportation business. (I used 1974 as that's where find relevant data from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis.) See pic rel why your 70k/year is nowhere close to what Travis earned as a "shitty cab driver", and that's not including several other factors like rent prices for apartments in New York.
