>those cosplay-tier costumes
I apologize Shyamalan-sama
>Too similar
IT LOOKS LIKE A COSPLAY!!!!!!
>Too different
THIS COSPLAY FROM THE INTERNET LOOKS BETTER!!!!!!!
simply don't make a live action show. it's that easy
At least there's more color in them than the shymalan movie.
I never had any issue with the costume design in Shamalyan’s movie. In fact, I thought his reimagining of Aang’s design translated really well to live action. It was literally everything else that was the problem. This looks like absolute shit and will be distracting as hell.
The costumes are the best thing about it
You are a fricking moron, holy shit.
>Indian moron barely more intelligent than a chimpanzee starts posting
Cosplay costumes are usually better than Hollywood
It looks exactly like the Shyamalan one
Not at all.
Work like hell to get it done, or don't bring it up and have them age as they go. It's a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" moment like with the Stranger Things cast.
I want these two to be a couple in the live action Netflix show.
cringe yurishit
All I can think of when seeing this image is Plumbers Don't Wear Ties
>water tribe armor
sick
Oh man these look bad.
Zuko is passable.
Which makes no sense. There's a reason the SWT was presented as not having any armor, metals, or big-ass bone walls
You could charitably interpret bits of metal here, altho they aren't totally barbaric. He uses a metal boomerang as his signature weapon.
>barbaric
I'm not saying the SWT is barbaric.
They're a tribe that is actively being limited by the Fire Nation. They don't have warriors. They don't have benders. They don't have armories. They don't have ports. They don't have anything beyond ice walls.
Netflix designers clearly wanted to show off actual native designs, but they forgot the narrative point that the SWT is on the brink of nonexistence. These designs belong in the Korra era
Honestly, the SWT makes no sense when you actually think about what's shown on screen. It cannot possibly be the couple dozen at best people we see on screen living in one incredibly small village. That's just nonsensical. Yet that appears to be the implication. Katara and Soka being the only two kids would be fricking dire. The SWT being oppressed and on the brink of collapse is a fine idea, but as usual artists have zero sense of what that actually means.
Shit like this is all over TLA too. Which isn't a big criticism, it's not that kind of show. But it does rub up against this odd disconnect several times in ways that complicate trying to think to hard about how the mundane part of this setting actually works.
You're being autistic for no reason. The show never said or implied there was only 1 village in the South Pole. In fact, supplementary material confirmed that there were multiple small villages throughout the region that lived far apart from one another.
>The show never said or implied there was only 1 village in the South Pole
It kinda did.
I'm pretty sure Katara introduced her village by saying "here it is, the southern water tribe."
Which implied that was all it was.
Now, that didn't make a whole lot of sense, given the size of Hakota's army, but it was still kinda implied.
Not that I care that it was changed.
The specifics escape me, but I definitely recall some lines sounding odd if the implication wasn't supposed to be what we see is what there is. Same for the Air Nomads.
To be sure, it wasn't anything that couldn't have been easily written over, as it was in later material. But the point was being married to the original portrayal of Southern Water tribe feels silly, given what we're shown can't possibly be all there is. Things also look different in animation versus live action. This has always been a problem with adaptations like that, the need to try and keep the old designs while also avoiding making them look to bland now that it all has to be real material.
It's still gonna suck, I'm sure. But this particular point doesn't really seem worthy of shitting on it for.
Where are their blue eyes?
Eye colors are almost always disregarded when making a live-action adaptation of something. Harry Potter dropped it, GoT dropped it, not surprising Avatar isn't keeping it. I know Witcher kept it, but sometimes it looks goofy enough to take you out of it.
I thought in Harry Potter's case it was because he was allergic to the contact lenses they used?
He looks like someone fricked up in character creation.
He looks like that eggplant girl I saw on /b/ ylyl years ago
the frick is this?
>very fine mesh for fire nation armor
Literally perfect. Comes across as borderline modern and industrial, like you could see an engineer wearing that in the depth of a a fire nation ironclad.
>water tribe ring armor
I mean it's real at least, not like that foam armor they did for game of thrones.
>Aang's tatto
I'm not liking how they went with the solid blue AND the TLA wavy designs. Shoulda picked one or the other
I thought I saw the budget. It must have gone to the 50 or so actors they announced that they hired for this one season.
oh boy
CAN WE PRETEND THAT AIRPLANES IN THE NIGHT SKY ARE LIKE SHOOTING STARS????
I COULD REALLY USE A WISH RIGHT NOW, WISH RIGHT NOW, WISH RIGHT NOW...
>all those rings
Does the Southern Water tribe get their armor from the North or something?
yes it looks slightly moronic, like they dyed medieval archer's armor
>like they dyed medieval archer's armor
those rings are too far apart to offer any protection
It honestly looks like rejected minor character clothing for GOT or some shit.
lmfao, Ian Owsley (actor) unironically joined a literal fake "Indigenous tribe" ran by his relative where you just have to pay 20 bux for membership and there's no verification of anything even required.
so?
So join then. You'll be able to point to the TV screen and say: "See that guy? We're from the same tribe." LOL, that's probably what the scam is in the first place.
>supposed teenager looks over 30
Marvelous casting
Just age the cast up. The plot works fine with Aang as a "16 year old" played by an actor who's actually like 24.
You can't have actual children do believable action scenes in live-action. How do industry professionals miss very basic concepts like this?
>How do industry professionals miss very basic concepts like this?
Design by committee.
No, this would be an instance of making an effort to appeal to fandom expectations even if they're silly or counterproductive. A normal studio committee move would be to age characters up because everyone knows children are logistical nightmares.
What are you alleging is the shared issue here?
>Literally perfect
Okay, but what's that got to do with the other two images?
I also don't think it's particularly nutty for Sokka to have some kind of armor instead of putting on a nice shawl and some sleeves when he gears up for war, but I don't really care either way.
are you a r*ddit refugee or something? that armour looks like utter shit
They couldnt even be bothered to go on etsy buy a larp armour and spray paint it blue
I think the look's actually on point (stay mad gayS!!!!1one) but the costumes, while not bad, are cheap looking, so will this be good? Waiting and seeing becasue having reservations at this point in the curve of Netlix adaptations is understandable.
Yeah, really dumb move. Not that I had hope this would be good, but child actors killed any chance it had.
Lmao Zuko barely has a burn. What are we even doing. Did Ozai use a cigarette lighter? Also why does Sokka look like a deformed Mexican.
looks fricking great imo
>looks fricking great
They were too lazy to paint a bigger burn
This shows little passion for source material. Nuzuko can just hide his with an eyepatch
>too lazy
"Didn't want to," yeah.
plus the way his eye is all half-shut and fricked up looking really sells it, even a bigger mark would just look painted on without touches like that
Yeah I think Zuko looks pretty good. Katara is fine. Aang looks too young and Sokka looks inbred.
No one has ever complained that a costume looked too similar in the history of the world get the frick out of here.
>No one has ever complained that a costume looked too similar
Superman's undies.
>No one has ever complained that a costume looked too similar in the history of the world get the frick out of here.
>those cosplay-tier costumes
>I apologize Shyamalan-sama
>barely
Looks fine, honestly. It could cover more, but it stands out enough.
It just looks like a birthmark lol
Setting aside the scar issue, the armor itself looks largely fine, although I do hope they remember to include the skull masks on his soldiers. Iconic.
Nah.
Always has been.
Ja
>let me rush to check Google real quick
Ok.
I accept your surrender
A realistic severe burn mark would be more distracting and gross, they probably compromised to make it look distinguished instead of disgusting.
It's supposed to be distracting and gross. Ozai made it as visible as possible to punish and humiliate him. It's meant to be an object of shame. That's the point.
Yes dipshit but would it be too distracting and take away from general audiences finding Zuko cool? They probably focus tested a few scar designs and landed on that one. Half of you complain that it's too much like the show and the other half fixate on minor details that don't really detract from the overall theme.
People were fine with the Hound being deformed
>Did Ozai use a cigarette lighter?
No he just used his face to put out the biggest, fattest stogie he had on hand
Well it's much harder to make the burn with make-up, since you'd have to reapply it and remove it every time the actor enters and leaves a shoot.
So having it be somewhat more subtle, is a pretty logical move.
Agree, once again they were too afraid to make a character ugly instead of making accurate scars.
That scar looks horrible. Dev Patel was hotter than this guy and better for that reason alone.
No offense to the actor but he doesn't look attractive enough to be Zuko. Also he looks chinese or Korean instead of japanese
i agree. he isn't buff enough. s1 zuko was ripped.
full
The arrow is too blue. And it looks composited.
Looks close enough to match the shade of his skin.
Are you an actual idiot? It's a magic blue arrow that glows when he uses his special powers.
not brown enough
its the lighting
Katara is really cute but I do wish they'd worn blue contacts or lightened her hair a bit.
Sex
Blegh
Sex
Huh?
UOOOOGHHHHHH!!
How old?
15 right there anon calm down
>calm down
Calm down Bejita, lest I teach you another lesson...
I wonder if the hair loopies are just clipped on, or she actually grew them
She looks the best out of the four.
would
I hope at least the other girls will be hot. I get that Eskimo actresses aren't plentiful, but they could have found someone higher than a 5/10.
Not exactly a hunk either. I don't know if he looks more like a horse with that long face, or a pig with that nose.
They just look like random Asian people. Not exactly actor-tier looks.
Also, applicable to all, they look like sticks. My guess is that their martial arts experience is slim to none. If you are going to get ugly kids, then at least get martial artists or gymnists
I don;t want to slobber on her toes so it's not a truthful cast to animated katara
Avatar on stage. Trailer soon
Sorry wrong link

Please tell me that's real chain mesh under there and not rings painted onto silk like in Rings of Power
Very few productions actually use chainmail for costumes, it's just a pain to make even though the fabric stuff looks like shit.
The LOTR movies used fake chainmail but made from PVC rings and the pre-prod crew actually stitched tons of mailshirts
The LotR production is also not the norm, especially these days. That autism for practical effects has sadly been neglected for a while now.
Yeah the LOTR makeup/costume design/practical effects were fricking amazing, the orcs looked damn good
Really funny to go back and look at the now horribly outdated cgi while all the costumes look fantastic even now
>Movie shit after it failed the first time
What did they fricking mean by this?
These guys have had like one success and by frick they're going to run it into the goddamn ground if they have to.
EVERYTHING MUST BE FRANCHISE NOW
NO SATISFYING, COMPLETE STORIES LEFT TO AGE INTO CLASSICS. REVIVE AND MAKE FRANCHISE.
>even FLCL has many sequels now
I hate life
It's ok I guess.
too bad season 1 will flop and we will never get live action toph
>we will never get live action toph
This is a crime against humanity.
She would have been black anyway.
>She would have been black anyway.
>Black and sassy lesbian feminist Toph
Then nevermind.
>we will never get live action toph
What is this? A porn parody?
I'd sooner believe it was that instead of that actually being a preview.
I must be on Cinemaphile
Shyamalan gays trying to one up Snydergays on the shit taste metric.
A thousand foot gays just screamed out in agony.
She'll get harassed by twitter if she isn't literally a blind girl.
the best tophs are the convention thots.
I pity the soul who gets cast to play toph
I'll watch it.
These look brand new factory made and mass produced with modern equipment and tech, couldn't they have made them look more rustic and worn like real traditional clothes
Also maybe add some trinkets and details for believability, the reason the costumes look simple in the cartoon is because you have to draw that over and over again, not because it's peak design for every medium or something
katara is a pedo now i guess
Dude, where have you been? She's always been a pedo.
Aang is the pedo, he was a 112 year old man creeping on a 14yo girl
>Aang = 13 1/2 years old
>Katara = just turned 17
what did Netflix mean by this
That the netflix show will go with zutara.
that zuko will taste water pussy and knowing that sokka will be too young, suki pussy probably will be zuko's property too.
have you seen the set photo leaks
northern water tribe
So how are they going to deal with Aang's actor aging?
Puberty blockers are all the rage nowadays
>Puberty blockers are all the rage nowadays
We live in a time where eternal e-girls can exist.
series is going to span multiple years. he's going to be 18 when season 2 films, this shit is taking an eon to come out. it was filmed last summer for christ sake, development is at a snail's pace
They just deal with it
Remember how in His Dark Materials Lyra is supposed to be 12 but she has gigantic massive child bearing hips from puberty?
>Short height
>Child bearing hips and big ass
I'm glad that Dafne Queen grew up in the right places.
Jesus Christ Anon, you weren’t kidding
My Goddess
Haha, this is the exact scene and the opening. It's just so jarring from the previous seasons but it couldn't be helped. I wanted to bring it up so bad in the subreddit, because it shattered my suspense despite being gay. All the normies completely ignores it
To be fair, Aang himself mentally and physically aged (despite the short time frame) quite a bit over the course of the show. All of the cast did.
They'll probably change the overall story to take place over several years instead of just 1, which would make sense since the group becoming masters of their elements in barely a year by the time Sozin's comet arrives was kind of silly.
You know the story might actually be improved if they stretch it out over several years and let the actors age. Kataang at least would come off as less creepy if Aang has hit puberty by the time he starts banging Katara. We might even be allowed Tokka, god willing.
Why was my thread on Archie's Netflix movie deleted but this one wasn't?
Someone?
Bollywood Archie period piece huh. It actually looks kino, you can tell who is who easily
Not really raceswapping but cultural translation since everything is transplanted to the local context, call it intelligent raceswapping if you want, better than dumping some modern urban black guys in the middle of mediaeval northwestern Europe and calling it a day
Looks better than Netflix One Piece, at least.
Oh, shit, the cast is Asians this time. No more pajeets and white people! Looks like they're off to a good start.
>No parents
We'll have Pathik
Also get ready to see Jeong Jeong or Bumi to be played inexplicably by black guys
Stop it. Anon. Stop it. Don't Jynx this, even tho it's blackwashflix
I want it to fail
And I want everyone to understand the only reason this show is getting a live action remake is to profit off of virtue signaling and nostalgia bating and having a free out for when it gets canned by just calling viewers racist
Ok, so who's going to be gay?
Looks better then the shamalama-ding-dong movie. I'll remain cautiously optimistic.
>Water tribe
>Eyes not blue
Contacts aren't that expensive
Will this finally make Cinemaphile shut up about Primos?

These scores were either left by a woman or a flamin' catty homosexual.
Can we not sexualize the children, straightoids? Goddamn
It's in our genes, it's just natural.
Those are teenagers american.
why do pretty girls always have such messy rooms
People have a threshold for how much effort they are willing to put into things. Pretty people minmax into being pretty and have no effort left for anything else
Twistchads... I kneel...
straight up look like the last kingdom extras
Ah the Peltz kid, she was so bland and apparently daddy pulled a few strings so she got the part fricking up Shyamalan's entire pool of casting choices for the entire water tribe.
Suki bros...
Yue bros...
Azula bros...
>Those lips
not my problem
Why aren't people instantly calling this shit out for being TLA movie all over again? Are you just new or gullible?
Because the thread is full of paid shills.
Well it's quite unlikely to be that bad.
The Shyamalan movie was god awful in no small part because all the humor and levity was taken out, the fight scenes were ass, and the acting was god awful.
Here, presumably the acting will be better. Hopefully the fight scenes as well.
Costumes look accurate but are WAY WAY WAY WAY too clean looking.
It can't be worse than the One Piece trailer that just dropped. They turned Luffy into a quippy character with smart come backs lines all the time.
Maybe we can fix the eyes colors with AI?
Hnmmmmm , I think I'm okay with realistic brown eyes
>realistic
...it's avatar, being realistic would be having blue eyes
It's a tad *direct* of a recreation of the outfit of the cartoon, no?
What flies in animation may look out of place in live action.
And here, honestly I think the M Night movie had a better idea - ditch the color coating.
The color coating works great in the cartoon and comics, but the idea of people wearing a really bold color all around the body, just looks off.
my main issue will be whoever zuko's actor is not sounding like Dante Bosco. It will be super jarring not hearing his voice.
>zuko's actor is not sounding like Dante Bosco
Thank God.
I found it. the worst opinion on Cinemaphile.
My only problem is that Zuko's actor looks mid, Zuko is supposed to be handsome and very attractive.
>handsome and very attractive
That's not gonna be for a while. I didn't get a boner for Zuko until he grew out his hair
No way. Are they sticking with the cue-ball look? I'm going to kill myself.
not fair. I got a 3-day for a post not even half this racist.
Honestly the character designs were great, I liked the muted colors, and the white actors were blatantly superior. The only problem was that Zuko wasn't also white. The suckage came from the dance moves and shitty acting/writing. Those outfits are great and that arrow design is slick.
They cannot possibly start him with an unshaved head when his haircut is literally his entire character arc.
He's cute tho. I'd eat his ass if he was 25
>Actually 21
Oh shit, I'd eat his babyfaced ass now
>Expects some white guy
>Cast are asian
Hnmmmmm. Not bad. Not bad. Consider my interest piqued
Will they make their relationship canon?
Expecting this to be a trainwreck, I hope it's at least an entertaining one.
I bet either Appa or Momo will be the first ones to be affected by the show's budget
Meh, at least Azula and Lee's actresses are cute
Kinda liked Shyalaman's interpretation of the arrow as a bunch of line designs, a solid block looks too "cartoony"
You might want to look closer
You can hardly tell it's there
Until
Wake me when they make a LA Korra with multiple ryona and yuri scenes
What even is the appeal of live action remakes? All that money, time and effort to make something that looks worse, its not like those hacks at Netflix will make something better than the original story, why even bother?
Because producers don't have faith in new IPs or in animation.
Producers and executives honesty still don’t take animation seriously
Reasons:
1. Renewing IPs to make it easier to keep the IP later on down the road.
2. Adults still view cartoons as "for kids", so live-action remakes still have a chance of nostalgia-baiting the now-adult OG fans.
3. Live action can be taken more seriously, if that's the direction they're going for.
4. Animation studios in general aren't as common, good, or cheap as they used to be.
5. Both animators and voice actors keep going on strike.
6. Sometimes people are smart enough to realize that a new/aged voice coming out of the OG character's mouth sounds weird and sometimes creepy, and replacing the whole shebang with actual actors is less jarring. Best example: Iroh's hypothetical VA would get FRICKED by fans if he wasn't amazing.
7. VFX/CGI production is big right now, way bigger than animation.
Me, I'm just glad it looks like it could be a straight adaptation so far and not some weird thing like PlotTwistMcGee did with that shit movie.
Arent they planning to make it 'more serious' taking an approach inspired on GOT?
I imagine they're trying to bait a more "serious audience" to watch it.
non cannon
Is her aura pink enough?
i bet it's brown
I thought the initial teasers said they were de-aging Sokka into the little bro of the group.
>first live action movie enough to permanently traumatize me
>but no, they're doing the same thing AGAIN
the directors must really, really, really want to rape those child actors if they're subjecting me to this bullshit again. Also, Aang looks like a literal child. Kataangers are going to have me watch a teenage girl make out with her kid brother. I hope the theaters provide barf bags.
Was it worth it to frick the babysitter? At what cost, kataangers? Look at this and tell me this is what you want.
by the time there will be a hint of romance, dude is going to be 20 years fricking old at this rate
this will be canceled before the kid reaches middle school
>Kataangers are going to have me watch a teenage girl make out with her kid brother
I hope we get zutara romance just to witness the eternal seething from bryke.
i can picture those actors making out. i'm with this. kill the basedboys, make the fireboy frick the watergirl while the little kid watches crying with a stiffy.
pretty sure bryke dont care and admitted to trying to recapture Zutara's popularity with Makorra
They care. They had to double down and literally end the show on aang and katara playing tonsil hickey
Yeah the guy getting the girl at the end, the girl he's liked the entire show, that never happens. Must be a conspiracy.
Sarcasm, that's real original.
>Also, Aang looks like a literal child. Kataangers are going to have me watch a teenage girl make out with her kid brother.
So just like the cartoon, then?
Watch how they'll turn the Fire Nation into a Japan clone despite them being more aesthetically based on Thailand and China.
Don't wanna frick any of them. It's a failure
>the arrow points at the kid
yes, that is the kid
that is where you should aim
I'll wait for the second season so I can see Toph x Iroh
I just hope for Zuko's sake that Lo and Li are from different generations
>Lo and Li
How did they get away with it?
Normies remember le funny cabbage man before them so I guess they're more or less memory holed
First I just found out there's a ive action One Piece movie and now this.
If I was president I would make live-action adaptations of cartoons illegal.
Not a single one has been good. They are abominations, all of that wasted money would be far better spent on paying animators to make new hand-drawn animation.
I’d vote for you.
I liked the Flintstones' live movie when I was a kid.
The Flintstones movie might have saved my life once since I watched it to keep my spirits up in hospital
Apparently Sokka's actor isn't actually indigenous and paid money to join a fake tribe.
he's an honorary eskimo
What's the point of remaking a show barely 20 years old, that already has an HD remaster, using the same characters and plot? I've never had Netflix so idk why the company exists in the first place tbh.
>that already has an HD remaster
an AI one
The HD remaster was done in 2016, I doubt it was an AI upscale
the blu-ray is an upscale of SD content numbnuts
I was talking about the fan upscale
Nothing is AI literally, all of it is some algorithm or another without a real element of choice
>You can piss easily code a program to make intelligent choices, even a first year coding student could do it. It wouldn't do anything of interest which is why no one is doing it, but it would be "intelligence"
>I doubt it was an AI upscale
it was a GAN called Waifu2x which is similar to stable diffusion / AI
>nothing is AI literally
no shit
>all of it is some algorithm or another without a real element of choice
No different to humans then
"AI" upscalers have existed for a long time now, they use a basic preprogrammed algorithm to upscale images. They are called AI nowadays, but they are not(protip, neither are the images we have seen the past 2 years, none of it has any intelligence in them, not even artificial ones.) Ever heard of waifu2x?
Did they really shave a boy's head?
Not the worst Hollywood has done to young boys...
Live action was a mistake. They lose all their appeal. Or I don't know, maybe I'm crazy. I see drawn Aang and I see a happy, innocent monk boy. I see live-action Aang and I just see a bald kid with set clothes.
I don't like Zuko's scar. It looks like a black eye. Surely someone could Google burn scar references?
>>137 796958
I mean you can set conditionals and have the criteria be pseudorandom but that's not giving your computer discretion
Looks okay-ish even if Zuko's scar being more practical for makeup means it doesn't look impressive enough.
Still have zero faith in the basic concept. It's gonna be Shyavatar 2.0 with a worse budget.
Is it a ZBrush render?
Anyone feel like they should’ve done Korea in live action instead? The characters are all adults, it takes place in modern environments and the story actually could be improved.
No because the world outside this bubble doesn't give a shit about Korra. They give a very small shit about ATLA
>its an ember island players adaptation
>woodwork creaks and out comes the freaks
You Cinemaphilepervs get what you deserve.
What happened to people over the years? I have always hated live action movies and I thought that was the common theme but now people like them? Like wtf
Grow up and get some perspective, manchild.
People see thing they know and they consume, simple as that. You oculd shape a turd into a pop culture reference and people would want to hold it.
Also people dont like cartoons and feel less embarassed about enjoying something thats more "realistic" in this way. Its moronic but thats how I have come to interpet it.
>People like live action
No, people are obviously comparing the live action attempts. The race swaps during the first time was o fricking bad. People are but more hopeful now. We all know it's still gonna be shit
Looks better than Shyamaloo's garbage, but it's still so unnecessary. They'll have to work hard to prevent it from looking cheap and awkward.
Wtf are you talking about they look like screencaps from the shamallama movie.
I mean these are just stage photos and not actual screencaps from finalized episodes? Right?
Oh right all that’s missing is the dark filters to hide the bad cgi.
Only Aang looks like Shamalamadingdong's Aang. The rest look competent.
The rest look like they’re from the recap episode.
Gaang being cute
Zutarabros... It's time.
>bryke banished
it's time
>Aang's actor from the movie completely disappeared off the radar
He must've taken that shit hard
