It's stupid, funny, ridiculous, entertaining, idiotic, and amazing. All the silliness of Batman Forever dialed up to eleven

I loved this one but could never get into Batman Forever. That's the one with Riddler, right? There is just something totally unacceptable about Jim carrey in that role. There are plenty of villains with no dignity, who don't know how to move or behave or speak like a human being, on a basic level, and Carrey might have been OK in a role like that. But the riddler was a real person as far as cartoon villains go. A thinking individual, hand crafted by the writers for the purpose of engaging and challenging Batman as a detective and thinker. Jim Carrey is not capable of making the decision to perform a role in a way that excludes his typical hootenanny. Watching him play the riddler makes me imagine watching Ashton Kutcher play Q as a full-on Kelso dudebro in a nutrek, or watching Pee-Wee Herman play Saruman from lotr but as Pee-Wee Herman. I don't think Riddler is really on the level of those two but that is the degree of intensity of the disconnect between Carrey and the role

Probably one of Jim Careys better roles ngl. Arnold seems like he is having fun as well.

I put a lot of the blame on Clooney. He's just completely lost in the batsuit. Honestly everything to do with him, Robin or Batgirl just sucks - it's like they don't know what movie they're in so they're just completely on the wrong page. Meanwhile every scene with Uma and Arnie is great. She's doing over-the-top camp and he's just having fun being goofy and chewing scenery. Whenever they're on screen it becomes the fun kind of bad movie and those 2 knew exactly what they were doing (well, Uma did. With Arnie it's kinda hard to tell but it works)

Nah Clooney is fine in this film, he was stupid and ridiculous and felt out of place but that's part of the charm.
I like his arch with Alfred having cancer, it has heart and sadnes to it. it was a well directed drama inbetween all the goofy stuff

Aesthetically it's fricking magnificent, I wish there was a real city that looked like Schumacher's Gotham
but you're a fricking chump if you don't think the screenplay is boring dogshit and Clooney doesn't drag down the whole thing by being a miserable pissbaby who thought he was too good for the whole thing

yes one of the most interesting gotham cities

Camp is fine if you lose the self-awareness and just go along with it. Clooney's serious/sarcastic tone just ruins it, like he's trying to tell the audience "this sucks right? I know!". Would have worked better with Val Kilmer

again that adds to the camp I think

The only reason why I can see someone liking this is due to Cinemaphile contrarianism. I'm normally pretty defensive on movies but this one shat the bed.

I genuinely think the movie is really good.
it is very entertaining and dumb.

              >Classic Cinemaphile contrarianism like I said.

              Stupid things can be fun,
and fun things are worth a person's time.
which makes it good, because things worth people's time are a good thing.

why is the concept of dumb fun movies hard to understand for you?

Dumb and Dumber 1 starring Jim Carrey is also a very stupid movie but people love it, because they have a good time watching it.

batman forever, might not be an intelligent Nolan movie, but people genuinely enjoy it cause it's very fun to watch, it's funny and (also emotional , Arnie's wife, Alfred having cancer, Robin looking for a new home) and the visuals and production have a charm.

It's irrelevan, neither Schumacher nor Nolan make intelligent movies. But at least Schumacher's films have some entertainment value, I wouldn't rather watch Batman & Robin three times in a row than subject myself to even five minutes of Nolanshit

Part of Arnie’s appeal is that he knows exactly what he’s doing but it doesn’t come across as self conscious schtick or winking to the audience. You buy into it so much that you think “this guy isn’t even acting or aware of how this is working, it’s just Arnie being himself”

Unironically yes. This is just a form of rebellion towards modern movies by people who don't realize both can be bad at the same time.

No it isn't, you're just a self-centered moron incapable of understanding opinions other than your own. In the discussion of one particular film, you seem to surmise that these people are just contrarians, without knowing ANYTHING else about their tastes, what movies they like or dislike, just their sole opinion one ONE (1) movie you happen not to like. If you don't realize how fricking stupid that is, there is no hope for you.
Or, are you claiming that every film that is popular and beloved by most is also beloved by you? Surely someone as yourself only enjoys movies with at least a 6.0 on IMDB! Because you're a man of such high and refined tastes!
