Star Wars is like Shakespeare. You cannot possibly hope to imitate it.
People will be talking about Star Wars in 400 years, debating OT vs PT, SE or not, etc.
They will talk about it as "one of those really old movies that still kinda holds up, if you can get past the anachronisms".
Peak art is representative of the artist's uniquely developed personality. You couldn't forge a Henry VII play and accurately say "look it's more Shakespeare!". You can't make a movie like Rogue One and say "whoa this is a classic just like A New Hope!". I suppose I mean imitation as being successful recreation, of course you can imitate crab but it is not the same as crab.
Nothing Disney could ever put out could ever meet this as an equal. Nothing, unless... (a man can hope, that somehow a true artist would come by and make Star Wars again.....)
Star Wars is our Vagner. Our Shakespeare. Our Iliad. Frick Marvel. Frick James Bond. Frick Superman. Frick Batman. Frick all of that gay moronic shit, SW (1-6) is king, and there is nothing else like it in all of cinema. Nor will there ever be.
We should be so lucky that Disney keeps milking it, the masses don't deserve any better. We will always have the one true space wizard kino, and no amount of SLOP will tarnish solid gold. AMEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS
Only true of the six films Lucas made. The EU and The Clone Wars not as much (even though I love them), and definitely not for any of the literal dogshit Disney put out.
It’s pretty much take the existing lore and characters and run it through an AI that builds a new script integrating a progressive checklist. It’s basically comic-grade content turned cinema. Doesn’t resonate at all like the movies. You’ll see Vader and Kenobi fight and basically forget about it after a day. You’re fine just watching the 6 movies and not paying attention to this Disney eu. Pretty much what
Disney hired a bunch of women and PoC who didnt give a frick about Star Wars and whose only asset was being diverse. They put these dreamless fricks in front of a multibillion industry under no one who knew what they were doing and this is what we got. If Disney didn’t control the presses we’d be hearing about it being one of the great business frick ups of this century.
so I saw darth vader come back just a few hours ago and it was i dont know

it just felt cheap, like those youtube fanfilms that used to be made before disney sued and took them down for copyright infringement, and those still had more soul

as nostalgic as i am i have come to realize that the OST of star wars made it go from decent to absolute fricking unmitigated CLASSIC KINO the likes of which we will never see or hear again
Nah. The whole thing feels like a bad fan film. I'm not one of the chuds who hates that black people are in this, but this is just dull and poorly written. Obi-Wan isn't even the fricking focus of the show

I like the focus on the things that made Star Wars fun like bounty hunters, rebels, and smugglers in deserted places full of ruins on the fringes of galactic society. That's actually very much Star Wars in ways the prequels weren't.
Star Wars is very flexible and capable of being more than just the western genre IMO. You could tell a podracing sports story or a political thriller about a Twi'lek seducing a Senator to spy on him and it would still feel like it fits in the universe.
For the prequels specifically they came out a time when video games etc. were cheaper to make so even if the movies didn't have bounty hunters a lot, there was a whole Jango Fett video game and multimedia material that meshes with the experience of watching just the prequel movies.
Mando is good. Sure it's not excellent, mind-blowing, ground breaking or some kind of landmark achievement but it's good and if you can't realize that you should probably live in the woods alone for a month to recalibrate.
why the frick do disney sabers glow so fricking bright?
somebody turns on their saber and the entire fricking scene gets mood lighting, I hate it.
Also not a big fan of the bass farting symbolizing force usage, miss when it was reserved for Kylo to represent how unstable he is
>why the frick do disney sabers glow so fricking bright?
It's good and then devolves into a big dumb battle at the end of every season. The small stuff works and it works really well as a fun show. But the more they escalate it the more stupid it gets.
Just season 1 and a few select episodes of season 2.
I genuinely believe they somehow got lucky with season 1 and are trying to replicate its popularity. But they don't realize that making it more of an anthology made it better for segregated stories with actual new characters.
S1E3 of Mando of him rescuing Yeed and getting saved by the Mandalorians jetpacking is like the peak of the show and everything else hasn't come close to that episode for me, often being way way worse.
Got like 10 minutes of it in Boba Fett episode 5 before the rest of the episode was talking to the boring slow talking armorer lady and that Tatooine mechanic hag.

The lightsabers seem like they were very bright because the Vader scene was shot to be like a horror movie and the whole thing barely has any lighting. There is so little lighting that they chose to light it with the laser swords. Bad choice. It seems like they remembered the horror-ish ending of Rogue One and then doubled down on it.
Am I the only one who thought it looked stupid that the red and blue lightsabers made clear purple light on obi-wan's face? I don't remember them ever doing that.
>Am I the only one who thought it looked stupid that the red and blue lightsabers made clear purple light on obi-wan's face?
The lasers were never intended to light the scene before. If you up the intensity it will of course look different.
>Am I the only one who thought it looked stupid that the red and blue lightsabers made clear purple light on obi-wan's face?
The lasers were never intended to light the scene before. If you up the intensity it will of course look different.
The lightsabers glowed like something out of a fan film not the pure beams of energy in the OT and PT.
>Am I the only one who thought it looked stupid that the red and blue lightsabers made clear purple light on obi-wan's face?
The lasers were never intended to light the scene before. If you up the intensity it will of course look different.
See Anakin and Dooku's duel for what the lighting should look like
That epic showdown when Darth and Obi meet again.
If I had written it, Obi Wan would have immediately taken the high ground, then pointed at Darth and laughed.
Not a fan of what I've seen so far. The writing is extremely poor and the show has utterly failed to legitimize Inquisitors as anything but cartoony fan fiction.
>actually liked mandalorian quite a bit so far >Just know it's going to get turned to absolute garbage and retroactively ruin all seasons at some point
Sucks
The thing I hate most about it is people who think the PTSD making him completely inept is brilliant mature storytelling just because trauma is automatically a serious topic. It's being done as cliche as possible and will likely be fixed in one scene like TLJ Luke when he gets a mental health power up. And it's a dream for this female oriented writing group to just give Kenobi zero skills or power at all for five episodes so it's not coming from a place which honestly wants to tell a story about trauma.
They easily could have acting this way in public to stay hidden. But then when he was alone with 3rd sister, he could have let loose since he wouldnt need to hide when alone. This also could have helped her story, since she seems to maybe have second thoughts about being on the dark side. He could have even monologed about remembering her from the academy etc.
But no.....couldnt do that. He just has to act like a limp b***h for no real reason.
Also, Vader should have been equally as terrified of Obi as he was mad. Obi fricked Vader up last time they fought.
>Master Yoda, did I ever tell you that I discovered a secret underground railroad for jedis and force sensitive children >We probably should have sent them all to Dagobah so you could train them, since there's way more than two people who could potentially defeat Darth Vader and the Emperor
From 1977 to 2012 every official movie/show about was made 100% based on the vision of one man. That puts it in stark contrast against other big movie franchises, like Batman, because most of them had different creators do their own creative spins on the property since the very beginning. Doesn't matter what the film sounds or looks like or who the actors are or where the film is set, if there's someone dressed like a bat fighting crime, that's Batman.
But in case of Disneywars, it feels like this:

I think one of the reasons for the "cheap" feeling is that one man who was in charge of Star Wars until 2012 paid a LOT of attention to detail. He made everyone work hard to get things "just right". Disney and their lackeys don't give a frick. Example: in the films made by Lucas, Vader's mask is not symmetrical but in Disneywars it always is.
>fans grow to resent the creator because he doesn't do exactly what they want and think they can do better with his product >product loses that special spark that made people like it in the first place with the creator gone
many such cases
I like the Obi wan show I feel like I must be in the minority here. nothing is ever going to really be great again so I just accept things for what they are.
what I don't understand is why everyone hates it like what were they expecting it to be.
What's with the 3rd world space rebel aesthetic. Everything is always frickin gray and off color brown down and everyone's wearing rags. They never nailed the visual aesthetic in any of the disney product
Star Wars is dead and it will never come back. You need to let it go and move on with your life. It's important to look at things that aren't Star Wars.
Stop worshipping franchises. You will always be disappointed.
I'm watching because I hate Ewan and want to see him suffer for what he and that prostitute did to Riley Stearns. I'm still not over how that puta treated me.
I'm curious to see how Disney will frick up a good idea and if we get some kino diaglogue between obi wan and vader. We kind of did but it was too short and overshadowed by the bad duel and lightsabers.
Star Wars is best when it is in your imagination. The original movies have just enough information for you to envision other parts of the universe.
Actually seeing it often leads to disappointment as what makes the OT great is 80% in your head.
Disney is so hellbent on defeating Wookieepedia in its autism in that everything must be shown and explained. With zero effort I might add.
This. Star Wars is so widely popular, especially with kids, because of the creative framework around it. Most of Star Wars' profit comes from toy sales. George realized this with the prequels and put extra effort into each movie being different. Different aliens, different planets, different vehicles and machines. Things are fun, colorful, interesting. That's why Clone Wars era stuff is still so popular.
>Disney is so hellbent on defeating Wookieepedia in its autism in that everything must be shown and explained
And even then, wookiepedia EU autists still manage to come on top because sequel trilogy lore makes no fricking sense whatsoever.
That wasn't really the case before Disney though. The EU did not have this problem. It had soul. It was fun and had emotional stakes. Plenty of things were explored, expanded, and fleshed out from the movies and none of it was disappointing because it had creativity and real thought put in by writers who actually had talent, cared, and weren't held on a tight leash. Disney Wars is just a hollow, empty product. Star Wars material under Lucas, with or without much of his own involvement, were more often than not passion projects.
Star Wars is like Shakespeare. You cannot possibly hope to imitate it.

What exactly do you mean that you can’t imitate Shakespeare
Peak art is representative of the artist's uniquely developed personality. You couldn't forge a Henry VII play and accurately say "look it's more Shakespeare!". You can't make a movie like Rogue One and say "whoa this is a classic just like A New Hope!". This is what I mean by classic:

Agree also the music in Star Wars is some of the most moving classical musical ever made and pushes the series into god tier.
Correct.
Only true of the six films Lucas made. The EU and The Clone Wars not as much (even though I love them), and definitely not for any of the literal dogshit Disney put out.

It’s dead. There’s nothing of what I felt left. And what I love they turned into afterbirth soup.
So is Kenobi bad then?
It’s pretty much take the existing lore and characters and run it through an AI that builds a new script integrating a progressive checklist. It’s basically comic-grade content turned cinema. Who cares, Star Wars is literal live action anime. Just enjoy it without thinking
You are the problem
how do you "feel" star wars? what does that even mean
Pretty simple.
From 1977 to 2012 every official movie/show about was made 100% based on the vision of one man.
