Why did people maintain this would be better than the Shyamalan movie again?
You're acting like that's a high bar to clear.
At least somebody ITT can act
Why did they adapt it in the first place?
There is literally nothing to gain from something like that.
it looks cool
The cartoon was #1 for months on Netflix when they released it. There's clearly an audience for ATLA, the only way to milk it any more is a Live Action version.
I've been saying this since it was announced. There's no point in trying to adapt this and try to follow the exact same story beats as book 1. Best they can hope for is making it a 1:1 live action version of the cartoon and making the effects good enough to look cool. But ad we've already seen and read in announcements that they are making changes to characters personalities, and the bending/special effects we have seen just look awful. Adapting cartoons, anime, and even comic book storylines to a certain extent(see Civil War, or No way Home trying to adapt sinister 6) will always leave fans of the original source material disappointed.
Just take the Avatar name and slap it onto a live action series with a new Avatar, or if they are unoriginal, do it on a previous Avatar like Kyoshi or Roku. The og series gave just enough info on those two where Netflix has a solid premise for a show and can fill in the blanks with all kinds of Woke shit and diversity without passing off as many people.
I genuinely do not know. While the concept works better in cartoon form, it still looked moronic as frick and made no sense. I stand to reason that the only people who liked the cartoon were people who grew up with it and find it impossible to critique due to their emotional attachment. I can vaguely empathize, but at some point you gotta get past it. I grew up watching all nine seasons of DBZ on the orange bricks with the Bruce Faulconer scores, on repeat. Day after day, week after week, month after month.
I'm old enough to admit the fight choreography is bullshit and the heroes only ever win via the villains acting moronic. And let me tell you that shit traslates even worse to live action. The ANIMATION is half the appeal, whether you realize it or not at the time. Moreso than the actual designs of the world and its characters. Spirited Away? Some of the most memorable design work in animated history, DOESN'T MEAN I WANT TO SEE SOME REAL LIFE homie WITH A BLACK BLANKET DRAPED OVER HIS HEAD SHUFFLING AROUND MOANING AT PEOPLE AND THEN A GIANT CGI MOUTH EATING THEM
well said, heres your (you)
It's the other way around, DBZ villains only win because the heroes themselves are morons. In basically every arc after Z had they just utilized the tools at hand better and didn't go "muh fight autism" the whole thing would be over when they first summoned the dragon and asked it to destroy Vegeta and Nappa's pods.
>fight choreography is bullshit
The fight choreography in DB and DBZ was fantastic in, what are you talking about?
>the only people who liked the cartoon were people who grew up with it and find it impossible to critique due to their emotional attachment.
>animation fandoms in a nutshell
Anyone in the know were initially optimistic due to the original creators being heavily involved.
Then, 4 years ago, they left the production, publicly announcing that netflix were going directly against their intentions and basically ruining the show.
Everyone has known that it will be terrible since then.
How did i not hear about this? I just found their open letter to fans
An open letter to Avatar: The Last Airbender fans:
>Many of you have been asking me for updates about the Avatar live-action Netflix series. I can finally tell you that I am no longer involved with the project. In June of this year, after two years of development work, Bryan Konietzko and I made the difficult decision to leave the production.
>When Bryan and I signed on to the project in 2018, we were hired as executive producers and showrunners. In a joint announcement for the series, Netflix said that it was committed to honoring our vision for this retelling and to supporting us on creating the series. And we expressed how excited we were for the opportunity to be at the helm. Unfortunately, things did not go as we had hoped.
>Look, things happen. Productions are challenging. Unforeseen events arise. Plans have to change. And when those things have happened at other points during my career, I try to be like an Air Nomad and adapt. I do my best to go with the flow, no matter what obstacle is put in my way. But even an Air Nomad knows when it’s time to cut their losses and move on.
>I started to reevaluate what is truly important in my life and what I wanted to do with what’s left of it. I took some advice from Uncle Iroh. I looked inward and started asking myself the big question: “Who are you and what do you want?”
>I also sought wisdom from Stoic philosophers who were big on differentiating between what is within our control and what isn’t. I realized I couldn’t control the creative direction of the series, but I could control how I responded. So, I chose to leave the project. It was the hardest professional decision I've ever had to make, and certainly not one that I took lightly, but it was necessary for my happiness and creative integrity.
>And who knows? Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar has the potential to be good. It might turn out to be a show many of you end up enjoying. But what I can be certain about is that whatever version ends up on-screen, it will not be what Bryan and I had envisioned or intended to make.
>I also want to be clear that this doesn't mean the end of my involvement in the Avatar universe. These stories and characters are important to me and the renewed interest and excitement in Avatar and Korra has been inspiring to see.
>Writing this letter has left me with a very heavy heart. I know many of you will be disappointed and frustrated by this news. I get it. I share your disappointment and frustration. I also recognize this creative setback is small compared to the problems we’re all facing as a society right now.
>Thankfully, Iroh offered some wisdom for that, too: “Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel. You can’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving you will come to a better place.”
>May we all keep moving and come to a better place.
>Thanks for reading and for your continued enthusiasm for the Avatar universe.
>With gratitude,
>Michael Dante DiMartino
notice how he only talks about the original show in references and never references korra aside from the fact that it exists. they know korra is dogshit. if they were still working on the live action version it would be a guarantee that it would suck shit. i still think it's going to be bad, though.
>I also want to be clear that this doesn't mean the end of my involvement in the Avatar universe. These stories and characters are important to me and the renewed interest and excitement in Avatar and Korra has been inspiring to see
>aside from the fact that it exists
>they know korra is dogshit
korra was ruined by network meddling. they never got a chance to make the show they originally wanted to make.
Korra was better and less pozzed than the original show
He didn't talk about Korra because that letter is about the live-action Netflix show.
Nothing in this clip looks worse than the Shyamalan movie. I think you've forgotten just how dogshit that movie was.
less white people
Literally anything would be better than that.
Mike and Brian were involved with the Shyamalan movie.
they had a template of what not to do
People are idiots.
Avatar fans doubly so.
community college students make better movies than the shyamalan airbender
actual bending
It doesn't have white devils in it you fricking chud. That makes it good.
Because the movie is terrible and it would take some serious effort to make anything worse.
It looks better, but that's not a high bar to clear.
Let's be honest, a live action version of Avatar will never work because real life is too limited unlike animation, and I'm not a fan of remaking the show episode by episode as if we can't just watch the original instead.
This is also why I can't understand all the praise the LA One Piece got, it's lame too.
buy an ad
Why is that big black dick shooting fire
I forgot to mention at the end of my post but I am transgender (mtf) btw
unironically go touch grass you homosexual
Kneel before the BBC (big burning wiener)
Zutarabro btw uwu
they should've done a Korra show, way better than that kiddy avatar shit
I'm too old for this shit
This
This clip shows its terrible but also just barely acceptable visually so it'll get an 80+ audience score
>earthbending should've been the easiest to adapt
>it looks shitty, slow and without any impact
America made one 7/10 shonen that was more censored than your average Toonami broadcast of the era, and has been riding its dick for 20 fricking years. Japan produces an Avatar level production every season.
ive watched the first three episodes already ask me anything
Why don't they use guns? Like obviously bending would be great for large scale, for siege tactics and shit, but otherwise I just don't get it.
what's the capital of Kyrgyzstan?
which girl (or boy) is the hottest?
If there's no full-on Aang anal penetration close-up in the series I will not watch it.
strong RRR vibes
VFX team status?
BENDED
It's sucks, it's gonna be awful and ultra pozzed, but unfortunately it's gonna be a huge success. Because Netflix main audience is low IQ brown turdworlders, and they love that kinda of slop.
The Kyoshi Mayor being sex-changed for no apparent reason is when I knew it was over. There are going to be so many zoomer girlbosses jfc
The original was already pozzed
>girlboss Katara in season 3
>Sokka being lectured about sexism
>go to play kill and colonize
>gets killed like he deserves
There´s a reason why israelites are kicked out from countries in history.
>None of the soldiers are burned to death
>They are enveloped in flames and then magically fine a few seconds later.
Lame.
One shot there is an inferno and when the camera flips back to the earth kingdom soldier, the ground is completely barren. So immersion breaking, jesus
Btw this confirms Iroh won't be shirtless. God Netflix has no sense of humor
Where's Azula's blue fire?
What do you mean? Azula was always a baby-faced archer
She ate it. All of it.
Fricked around and Fauda
I exhaled through my nose
>fire nation is clearly Japanese
>Zuko's actor is some brown chink SEA monkey hybrid
netflix
Zuko (from the cartoon) looks Chinese not like a Jomon though, you can't deny this. Admiral Zhao in the cartoon is just white dude with mutton chops despite being from "Japan". Katara is a blue-eyed Italian with huge non-asian eyes even though this is supposed to be an Inuit. person. I don't think I have seen a single Inuit with blue eyes. Some of the darkest characters in the series are based off Louisiana hillbillies. It isn't supposed to make sense
Avatar is a fictional world and most of the characters are just based off varieties of white people and people need to stop coping about it with muh historical inaccuracies. Avatar is not our world
>Zuko (from the cartoon) looks Chinese not like a Jomon though, you can't deny this.
That's fricking moronic since every character has a generic anime face
>Avatar is a fictional world and most of the characters are just based off varieties of white people and people need to stop coping about it with muh historical inaccuracies. Avatar is not our world
Also applies to Japanese animation; they are fictionalized designs based on more idealized traits. The majority of IRL Asians look ugly as sin with undesirable features. White people are simply more objectively comfortable to look at is all.
>asian characters look white / look asian debate
thats why hapas and russians make the best cosplayers
>Anime
>Asian without slanty eyes
homie is this the first anime you've seen?
Isn’t Fire nation is like explicitly Chinese ?
No that would be the Earth Kingdom
Avatar wasn't "just for kids" either. Why does everything nowadays have to be so gritty and serious?
>No that would be the Earth Kingdom
The one with actual Geisha?
Taiwan. Kyoshi Island isn't technically part of the Earth Kingdom (even though it is by the time Aang gets to it)
The Earth Kingdom has a literal Great Wall surrounding it for miles. Ba Sing Se, especially the Royal Palace, have a strong resemblance to Beijing
>cartoon clearly aimed at children and airing on a children's tv channel during prime child tv watching hours
>not for children
>"just for"
Here is your (You)
fire nation is based on japan, the earth kingdom is china
>fire nation is based on japan
How odd. The Japanese never made tanks + zeppelins (AKA white inventions), the former of which only made possible when they were forced to open their borders.
It's a commentary on imperial Japan you fricking idiot. The fact that they're majnly genociding Chinese expys during the series wasn't obvious enough?
Being this obsessed about your race is pathetic.
they didn't have people that shot fire out of their fists either but here we are
>never made tanks
Jesus dude, how do you manage getting out of bed in the morning, being this moronic?
dumbfrick
>China invented martial arts
>I'm going to reply to anon with something I misinterpreted from his image and made up in my little clay baby softspot type brain
Do we really need a live action for everything?
>transphobic
WTF I LOVE AVATAR NOW?!?!?
The pronouns in Netflix's castings already give it away it's not phobic at all kek
Those earthbenders don't look very Chinese tbh.
>Earth Nation is India now
MAAAAA'AAAAAAAM DO NOT REDEEM THE WAR IN BA SING SE
why do they add smoke to firebending? it's not burning anything
This is exactly what I expected. Did people think it would look different?
i don't understand how shows look worse and worse every year and i'm not talking about cgi or casting or whatever, just how the cinematography seems to be really bad and fake
i know nothing about the technical aspects of the craft but i get the feeling i could achieve the same quality filming with my fricking iphone
Something about diversity over quality and a recent influx over this decade of inexperienced Indians being hired en-masse. I do not know why they are in the industry all of the sudden but you can clearly see the resemblance of modern CGI to Bollywood. They become more similar to each other every day, it is really telling
>inexperienced Indians being hired en-masse
They'll get replaced by AI programs over the next decade.
minorities+nepotism
I might name the group responsible for this but they have their dirty fingers everywhere including the Cinemaphile moderation team
People bought into Tarantino's "school film bad" meme
Money laundering. It's just money laundering, it has nothing to do with pajeets or minorities, they just steal the budget then force everyone to act on moronic deadlines. Not to mention retooling the entire script or story because some moronic executive has something to say halfway through filming so even more of the already stolen budget is eaten. Hollywood has become a competition of how much budget you can steal and get away with making a profit.
It's gonna get even worse. Get ready for the AI generated slop
whats the chance he is still alive and just cashed out insurance money
>I'm sure they mean GOT fans who liked S7
I watched trailer and what they're saying is bluff... Like Zuko's fire doesn't even burn people
Avatar came out in 2005 the og fans were probably also the ones jizzing themselves over GoT in the 2010s anyway
>it couldn't just be for kids
>Sokka's sexism is problematic and needs to be omitted
>jews, the supposed cowardly gutter rats, fight, kill and die for what they believe in
>incels and chuds, the supposed saviors of the white race, stay in their basements and shitpost on Cinemaphile
makes you think
give me a chud nation that proudly defends chud interests and I will proudly (and racistly) fire a chud rifle in its name
>just give me a nation for free because I won't fight to earn it
whites are so pathetic
So you all just have twitter accounts right?
What are the odds this gets Bebop'd after one season?
I don't recall zuko being a full on chink
why are they so SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
fricking cast someone who isnt a lazy fat frick, jesus, how hard is it?
it looks like a parody, they dont move like martial artists at all
not watching, but it doesn't look THAT bad, i mean i get the decision to not just burn everyone to a crisp. would be too dark
Will we get pic related or will it be another Cowboy Bebop type situation?
First fictional character I ever bothered looking up Hentai of and I still get massively turned on by her
AANG SPEIGAL!!!
Unfortunately her feet wouldn't be that cute. They'd be very hard, calloused, dirty, and probably even swole
HNNNNNNNGH
WTF ELON BANNED ME NOOOOO
ATLA was never good. It was always the poor man's Naruto. Learn to reject American goyslop and embrace Japanese art.
After Korra and the comics I was forced into having this opinion. While it's not the poor man's Naruto because Naruto is the exact same shit right now, it is incredibly flawed as a series, and if you genuinely started watching it as an adult and enjoyed it as immensely as a child would there's something wrong with your taste.
Boruto is the Korra of Naruto. They only ruined whatever good was left in the show.
I completely agree. The parallels are there too with Avatars last minute moralgayging about murder mirroring the whole Madara twist in putting a sour note to the otherwise fine direction of the ending, and the shipping autism.
Honestly looks like fan made tier FX.
We Bollywood now, holmes
>AVATAR BROS
we do not claim you 🙂
What went wrong?
its the equivalent of live action anime, you cant do it unless its "realistic" to begin with or a comedy
didn't you guys seethe for 75 years about some little trolling Germany did? I don't think israelites will want to attack anyone else on being crying b***hes to MuH international community. that's literally how you got the land in Palestine in the first place
you're expecting a israelite to have introspection.
send everyone else in hollywood to die in the desert too please!!!
This is what a movie without good creative direction looks like. It looks like shit. They didn't have enough budget to make good enough CGI so instead of finding a creative way to stylize the movie around the limitations they just bruteforced it while trying to mimic hollywood capeshit as much as possiburu. Also why this homosexual is white?
honestly, it still looks better than the movie, that's how low the bar is.
>Casting the potatoest ching chong chinaman for Zuko when originaly he was the one bringing all the fujobucks
Do casting agents even exist anymore
I can't tell the difference between this and the Shamalamabingbong movie
The last Airbender is a moronic thing to adapt anyway, just don't do it, why is this ONE cartoon getting adaptations? Why did Shyamalan pick that? Why is Netflix doing this now?
firebenders can actually firebend
I mean the cinematography and acting is shit but I didn't think the action looked that bad
If you want to talk about Twitter why don't you just do it on Twitter?
Why are they taking turns in combat like it's a JRPG?
