I'd say this is also a pretty good contender for "Ow The Edge: The Comic"

Nah, there's weirder and edgier capeshit. Gail Simone did worse with Escape from Megalopolis, there's Wanted and Nemesis, or Marvel with Spider-Man Reign. The Boys is simply what happens when Garth Ennis isn't held back by the big two.

The Boys has a few too many moments of sincerity and maturity to take the crown. Like not many but there's more comics that are simply gratuitous edge with nothing to actually say.

Yeah. No way it even gets within Top 5 in a world where Mark Millar's Wanted is a thing.

Where does this rank in your mind? Because Utopian and his wife's deaths are so fricking edgy that when I read it I had to be rushed to the emergency room for all the blood I was losing

The Boys at least attempts to have a point. You really want Edgy, read Crossed. Or Bomb Queen.

No, its point is to disparage all masculine characters in media. How do you obsess over Ennis and miss his eternal self-loathing? How room temperature is your IQ, non-reader?

It's enjoyable in a schlocky, junk food kind of way, but it has no real substance. It doesn't know what it's trying to say about celebrities, pop culture, corporations, TV, superheroes or anything else. It's why the show had to rewrite and radically alter so many things and go with the whole... social media-y angle where characters say things about racism and far-right extremism. Garth Ennis has always been a guy who is profoundly upset and angrily motivated to create, but he can never seem to pin down what it is he's really angry about besides a vague bit of everything.

Bullshit, theres a very clear point to tone down or outright remove things from the comic and to appeal to certain sensibilities while trying to wear the IPs skin because trying to come up with an original superhero series is aparently impossible.

The TV show is all in all better quality-wise, but sanding off the edges of Ennis' idiosyncrasies (yes, even if it's edgeshit) leaves you with a boilerplate pusedo-prestige dramedy that suffers from the bloated pacing endemic to that sort of thing.

Plus a satire of corporatism from Amazon was always going to feel disingenuous. At least with the comic you know Ennis does genuinely think Captain America is moronic concept.
