We didn't need a blueprint to make racist jokes, moron. It's observational humor.

I wish Pat didn't delete his Facebook post talking about his relationship with Jim Goad. I get that they haven't spoken in years, but it was sweet and provided a good contrast with this. And I made the mistake of not saving it.

    >All too often these days, comics circle the wagons and wail about cancel culture (looking at you, Joe Rogan), but not Oswalt. While stopping by The Al Franken Podcast, he lamented his generation’s over-use of irony, which he feels handed the alt-right a “blueprint” to mask their actions.

    >“We thought we were beyond racism. There was a lot of ironic racism amongst a lot of alt-comedy, a lot of Gen X, because we thought, ‘Well, we’re beyond it. We can make fun of that,'” Oswalt said before explaining how that attitude provided cover for Trump and his ilk.

    >“We didn’t realize we were actually mapping out a blueprint for a lot of the alt-right people and a lot of the edgelords and a lot of the shit posters to use for them to go ‘I’m just being ironic,’” he continued. “You’re trying to grandfather your shit in and we are partially responsible for doing that.”

    >Franken wasn’t entirely on-board with that argument and said that comedians should be more like George Carlin and his generation of comics who push boundaries, but Oswalt wasn’t having that characterization.

    >“But they were pushing for more openness,” Oswalt argued. “The people that are doing the edgelord stuff now are pushing for, ‘Can we go back to the way,’ think[ing], ‘Can I go back to being able to say these horrible things?’ It’s like, no, we gotta keep moving forward.”

I still don't understand why this was such a big deal, it's kinda juvenile but he didn't actually touch her or wake her up it was just something he probably thought was funny and would be funny in press photos.

Because the left was making a huge push to win a special election in Alabama using blatantly falsified evidence to paint the Republican candidate as a sex offender. That special election being the seventh or so one the media was trying to paint as a bellwether for the Trump presidency, after they lost the prior six. So the Republicans clamped down hard on this story and the Dems threw Frankin to the wolves.

      >We
Speak for yourself, imagine saying comics in the 90's were never actually racist lmao. How much of a bubble did this guy live in? Racist stereotyping wasn't just ironic in 90's jokes , and neither did the 00's with western attitudes towards Islam at the time post 9/11.

      >we are (I am) not irrelevant, we are (I am) significant
      >I am an exceptionally good person for being able to condemn other people for alleged wrongdoing

It's really a shame how many minds were destroyed in the mid-2010s and then going into TDS. He was a pretty good stand-up but until he had a kid and fell off. Kids and happiness are the bane of funny people because the humor comes from misery giving you a chip on your shoulder and kids and happiness takes that away.

        Happy people are not funny.

second/third rate personalities can't really afford to "be themselves" or they risk not getting any jobs, so more often than not you'll see them actively caving in to whatever's popular at the moment out of instinct
so that's all he's doing and I can't really blame him, but given how following his instinct resulted in his wife dying in the past, I wouldn't be so sure it's the best course of action
