Anyone else feel that Pierce Brosnan was the ultimate James Bond that encompassed all the previous ones into one definitive performance?
He had it all - the suave, the charm, the rogue factor, the puns and quips and he looked more like the character than anyone else. You could put him in any other Bond movie and he'd fit.

Hell no, he's like a one-dimensional cartoon version of Bond. He spends more time mowing down bad guys like Rambo than doing actual James Bond shit, he's way too nice to women, lacks Bond's snobbish and arrogant qualities, and the writing in his films was simply subpar. He's far better than Craig but who wasn't?

even with brosnan the bond in TD would have been too sentimental. sentimentality is a liability in bond's field and it turns bond into a generic action hero. bad move by the writers.

Barbara fricked over his era, he even said his Bond was written too soft and the sexual element was downplayed as frick (except the one and only sex scene in Bond movies in DAD with Halle Berry). He got fricked over massively by Barbara despite being globally beloved and everything with him as Bond selling like the cure to cancer. Frick her, she deprived us of the greatest James Bond of all time. I still miss Piercekino.
A View To A Kill with prime Brosnan and Walken facing off would be the best Bond movie ever made.

That one scene never made sense. Craig's Bond made a huge scandal and broke into her apartment and got less shit for it in Casino.
He was good but not quite lethal enough to be the ultimate Bond. That honor will always go to Connery.
Yeah I kind of agree. I think he is the "archetypal Bond", the Bond that our collective unconscious would construct if we all put our heads together and psychically manifested "007".
That said I gravitate towards Connery's films more and find them more personally influential and memorable, but really the entire panoply of Bond films is quite enjoyable, until that potatoheaded socialist mick ruined it all.

this, he destroyed the most consistent media franchise in human history. the last movie lost a 100 million, the first Bond movie to fail at the box office. Bond is ruined forever. It ended with DAD, that was the last we saw of James Bond. Pierce fits into every Bond movie, you could put him in Licence to Kill or Moonraker and he'd be naturally fit for both. It's insane how wasted he was.
I think it's difficult to truly compare the Bond actors because of the writing.
Connery's bond was the ultimate investigator, he found shit out, he used disguises and connections to discover things.
Moore's bond was confrontational and brash, because OF COURSE I'm a british agent and I'm here to stop you.
Dalton's Bond was far more emotional and driven by revenge or anger.
Brosnan's Bond was an infiltrator and a fighter, much more an assassin than an intelligence gathering agent.
Then with Craig they went all over the fricking place and tried to make him a bit of everything, and it just didn't work.
The approach was to make him Jason Bourne but British and it worked by Quantum of Solace, you were beginning to accept it and then in Skyfall, they put him into classic Bond scenes and stuff and he stuck out like a moron. Watch this scene, casino, tuxedo, girl asking his name, it's all iconic Bond but the guy supposed to be Bond looks like an Albino Russian goon. What an utter disaster.

I like him, he wasn't amazing or anything but he's not as bad as he's memed to be. He looks the part and it's a well-written, superbly directed Bond film. My only issue with OHMSS is the silly dubbing when he's undercover
