nah V is really minimalist unless you listen to the tapes, and those can be pretty good as audio dramas. you have to go out of your way to get the story in that one

The story of V just isn't compelling, it's essentially Kojima trolling people who wanted autistic answers to the prequel story by using 'parasites' as a catch-all like he did with nanomachines in MGS4. Big Boss having a functioning mech with human-like structure and articulation decades prior to MGS1 is stupid, the stuff with young Liquid is lame and the fact that a huge twist with the real ending is just randomly dropped into your inbox with zero fanfare is embarrassing. In terms of story it's extremely obvious that it was unfinished and rushed. Which is ultimately a shame because the gameplay is probably the best in MGS history (although I'm not a fan of open world games personally)

so was 4, but by V he just didn't give a shit and i think he wanted konami to fire him. i believe he would have delayed that game for years longer had they let him. it already had an incredibly long development

I just find every plot thread in MGSV unsatisfying. I get how they work thematically, but as a story it just feels like you're dealing with some important characters and then they just frick off and are out of your life with no closure. Huey and Eli are prominent examples of this. Skullface and the final chapter are dealt with weirdly abruptly. Quiet is the only one who gets a real arc that you'd expect from a self-contained story.

I agree, BUT they massively dropped the ball with ranking - you no longer had to do no kill runs to get S+ ranking, and the completion time was the biggest factor for the final score.

As corny as it is, the final fistfight with snake and ocelot going through their iterations is still a cherished moment for me. Same as raiden turning up in Act 2, just cool shit, there's a lot of cool shit in 4, which to me is the central appeal of MGS

only incredibly high iq and incredibly low iq people can appreciate the scene where meryl and johnny and having a shootout while planning their wedding
3's my favorite experience, but I love dicking around in 5. 3 does have that wacky spy film vibe though, making it so comfy. Kojima's a literal genius.

I think 1 and 2 are very close in my opinion and I can fully understand your point, for me the refined gameplay and literally mindblowing ending makes 2 come out a bit ahead. Both are masterpieces though.
I played it when I was a dumb kid and I never managed to get into any trouble with the hunger system. There's shit-tons of food in virtually every map.
i always hear people complain about both hunger and camouflage but neither of those bothered me at all when playing 3. its probably my favorite of the series

I had the opposite problem - on regular difficulties if you're decent enough at the game you can completely ignore its central mechanics, which I felt was a wasted opportunity. I probably would have enjoyed them more if they were forced on me.
You can blow up enemy storehouses and make the enemies hungry and take some of their stamina. Also, you can do stuff like kill all the people working on Shagohod and it won't be at fully health when you fight it as a boss. MGS3 is just so open ended

I really love the series and wish there was a director capable and passionate enough about the project to bring it to life and was able to do it by cloning Clint Eastwood and making him twenty one years old so we can have the whole damn thing from start to finish.
