the actual dramatic/combat cutscenes are fricking amazing. snake storming big mama's house was so good

but then you remember every other cutscene is a literal power point presentation. like rectangles with data jargon after effects scrolling background stuff while kojima just fricking rambles on and on and on and on and fricking on forever about the sop system and gw and the foxdie and he goes into fricking textbook long rants about each of these with such uninteresting autistic detail that makes you wonder, what the frick is compelling about this?

        >that's like the worst metal gear game though narratively

nah V is really minimalist unless you listen to the tapes, and those can be pretty good as audio dramas. you have to go out of your way to get the story in that one
4 just jams it all in your face

          Anonymous

The story of V just isn't compelling, it's essentially Kojima trolling people who wanted autistic answers to the prequel story by using 'parasites' as a catch-all like he did with nanomachines in MGS4. Big Boss having a functioning mech with human-like structure and articulation decades prior to MGS1 is stupid, the stuff with young Liquid is lame and the fact that a huge twist with the real ending is just randomly dropped into your inbox with zero fanfare is embarrassing. In terms of story it's extremely obvious that it was unfinished and rushed. Which is ultimately a shame because the gameplay is probably the best in MGS history (although I'm not a fan of open world games personally)

            >it's essentially Kojima trolling people who wanted autistic answers to the prequel story
so was 4, but by V he just didn't give a shit and i think he wanted konami to fire him. i believe he would have delayed that game for years longer had they let him. it already had an incredibly long development

            Anonymous

I will give V credit for fleshing out Huey so that he isn't just another Otacon, and also for the Paz tapes, that was creepy as frick.
I am still undecided on how I feel about Big Boss leaving Venom to eat shit for him.

              Anonymous

I just find every plot thread in MGSV unsatisfying. I get how they work thematically, but as a story it just feels like you're dealing with some important characters and then they just frick off and are out of your life with no closure. Huey and Eli are prominent examples of this. Skullface and the final chapter are dealt with weirdly abruptly. Quiet is the only one who gets a real arc that you'd expect from a self-contained story.

                it's unironically meta
the game itself is a "phantom pain", as is everything within it. it's all blueballs.

just play it. you think 6 months would make that much of a difference? go look at what's there. it was intentionally designed to blueball you. everything about it. the game is the player's phantom pain of metal gear itself
he had a line in policenauts calling himself a "postmodern game designer." go look at the comments he made about that chair. he knew exactly what he was doing, and he succeeded

                Anonymous

But even with the shit he already did, you can definitely see how this was just a torture porn. Kojima claimed he didn't have time to do last chapter, but there was no way to tie it together in satisfying way in just one chapter.
I do believe that Venom finding out how he was fricked with when he already hears Solid Snake's gunfire somewhere near was always the ending.

That would be 1. People keep forgetting how revolutionary 1 was, on the console where synth music and characters who looked like bunch of boxes together, MGS 1 brought maybe the first ever movie experience to a game. The amount of ideas crammed into it was staggering.

You can blow up enemy storehouses and make the enemies hungry and take some of their stamina. Also, you can do stuff like kill all the people working on Shagohod and it won't be at fully health when you fight it as a boss. MGS3 is just so open ended
