fa/tg/uy here, look into a card game called Sentinels of the Multiverse. It's not a "buy packs of random cards" game, more like a boxed board-game type thing. What's neat is that the creators invented not a set of fake superheroes for it, but a fake comic/publisher and its history, and considered the ways that it would change over time. They basically came up with the storylines, the publisher drama, the "This storyline got dropped abruptly because the editor got fired" moments, the characters who disappeared for 10-20 years and came back different.

Then they ended the game with a crisis crossover event that brought some of the villains back as hero decks.

It's a physical game but it's also available on steam, and the creators did a weekly podcast where they talk through their whole-ass fictional comic publication history on a specific hero. Good shit tbdesu.

Few people know that the secret agent liason for the 90's superhero team DEATHPACT was actually originally a 60's girl's comics character, Clara McNop- The Girl Cop. She had a successful run until 1973 when the editors felt they had enough material to just run off reprints, leading to the character eventually wallowing in obscurity until being revived in the early 90s.

To be fair, Agent of C.O.P was a pretty cool evolution for the character. She was a badass who didn't take shit from anybody despite not having any powers of her own. Yeah sure she was a little cheesecake-y but so was everyone at the time. That issue where she's working against the clock to free DEATHPACT while disarming a series of time bombs AND fighting the superpowered militant terrorist group RAGE FORCE at once is a classic for a reason. I've seen that panel of when Clara takes down Spikeangel reposted so many times.

Shieldheart has had a rocky history in comics with many reinventions, one of the stranger ones being when Ragnarox drained her of her powers and left her an amnesiac, joining up with a group of bikers called the Road Vikings and becoming a biker chick out for justice

Can’t draw at the moment, but I think I have a 90s concept in mind. Inspired by the anon who does and more.

      The Gladiator!

In his debut he was a villain who targeted museums to steal antiques and was fixated on dueling heroes.

      Here’s the 90s villain vigilante reimagined backstory…

Anthony Jones was a former mobster who was practically raised into the crime family. Though during a heist, he and his gang were caught by an alien ship while fleeing from the cops. Their otherworldly kidnappers brought them back into their home planet and put them into gladiatorial arenas to fight for their amusement. The mobsters tried to stick together, but in the end they all betrayed each other just to try to stay alive. What the humans weren’t aware however, is that if a “faction” is eliminated, then their own planet would be destroyed. Anthony fought for years, and eventually grew a newfound kinship with fellow alien slaves while slowly abandoning all he learned as a mobster. After a while he won enough time to be released back to Earth. The whole experience changed him however, and he now seeks to offer the same kind of “redemption” he had to other criminals and anyone who ever crossed him. He will capture any scum he gets his hands on, and force them into gruesome gladiatorial fights and trials until they either are remade men like him, or perish. One of his end goals is to make humanity stronger. If some humans were ever kidnapped again like he was, then man won’t be exterminated for loosing. Eventually, they could even overpower these alien oppressors!

He's from a toyetic 90s show meant to sell a line of skateboards and various clothing lines and collectable action figures. He's from the future but broke his time machine, but combined it with a vhs player to have limited time control powers that usually is depicted with stock footage

this is GRIMSKULL he is 1/2 zombie and 1/2 revenant, born when a revenant mother was bitten by a zombie, his mother died for a 3rd time during his birth which protects him from the revenant curse but his zombie (a type of vampire thrall) nature can assert itself if he's not exposed to holy pain, so he has to wear an inverted cross at all times.

he has spiked blonde hair, a ponytail/topknot depending on the artist, and when he uses his nebulously defined psychic powers caused by his mother's ghost's faith, he gets a glowing cross over his left eye (or right, sometimes the artist forgets)

he's really gaunt and his face, being a skull with skin but no flesh, always is doing a scowl.

    >His unit was slaughtered by cannibal women in the Amazon, so he raped and murdered and ate them back
    >got captured by the CIA and put on trial for war crimes he didn't have approval from them to commit
    >However, they needed someone to go and save the president's daughter from a satanic dimension where it rains blood and white lightning flashes all the time.

He wears a cybernetic eye over his eyepatch, and instead of having a million little pouches, he just wears one big pouch to keep everything in. He also has a big gun; we don't know what type or if it it corresponds to any guns that exist in the real world, but we assure you, it's big...and realistic.

I can't draw for shit but here's uhhh Two Fist Charlie, he's an alien bounty hunter who has cybernetic muscles, Psy-ber dreadlocks that let him hack machines and people's brains, and wields both a double barreled box fed explosive cannon and er...a magic sword he found here on earth that replaces the broken edge of it with the psychic energy of the wielder's own anger. His name is Two Fist Charlie because that was the name a kid who was the first person he met on earth gave him, and he hunts a race of parasitic biowarrior space demons who have four eyes and burrow into females to conduct a wicked rebirth ritual through their wombs that causes them to undergo a metamorphosis into a hyper evolved predator species optimized to kill the hosts.

He was told he needed a mask on earth to hide his identity so he shoved a headsock mask around his space helmet so he could let his psy-ber dreads hang out.

I went for a gross out superhero. Probably not the best example, and he definitely wouldn’t make it at 90’s image, but I didn’t just want to make Blüüdwyyld The Rapist Murderer. I call him Throw-Up Chuck.

    >Charles “Chunks” Corker was a fat kid who was always sick. Everybody at School made fun of him for always throwing up.
    >One day, he gets abducted by aliens who feed him a strange alien sandwich.
    >When Chuck wakes up, he realizes he the ability to throw up a variety of materials, from acid to whip cream.
    >Chuck decides to use his powers to save the day (and hopefully get a girl to go to the dance with him).

Realistically he’d probably get killed off in some other characters series, but I had fun making him. Feel free to give him an edgy redesign and tragic backstory. Maybe make him a school shooter or something, I don’t know.

    >His teachers raped him throughout his schooling
    >But when his girlfriend is raped and murdered in the same alleyway as his mother, that’s a bridge too far.
    >So he buys up a frickton of guns and decides to kill any rapists he sees, starting with his father.

the shitpost rules-lite game system is a longstanding tradition. Once the game design bug bites you, you can't be rid of it. Game design is like lyme disease.

I once wrote a shitpost game about being drunken hobos for /tg/, then later adapted it to run other stuff and used it for a successful two-session game of Transformers.

I wish. Different absurd hobo system. Given I know of at least one MORE absurd drunk hobo system, it seems to be a popular genre for the kind of game you write but can't publish. This is my effort, and it later worked as a transformers game by swapping out the concepts and words attached to each die value.
