Off the top of my head: >Beastmaster >Conan(obviously) >Fire and Ice >Excalibur >13th Warrior >Ladyhawke >Flesh and Blood >Dragonslayer >Legend >krull
Probably forgetting one or two but these are the best ones from memory.
i rewatched willow a few months ago and absolutely hated it, i thought it was comically bad
showed my mate a few clips to demonstrate how badly it held up and it didn't seem quite as bad, but still bad
also rewatched conan a month or two ago and it blew me away, truly awesome film
When I rewatched Willow I thought it started strong and then it felt like they ran out of budget (if the movie was shot in sequence.) Everything about the second half was visibly worse.
Also, speaking of Willow and no budget, the Willow series might be the worst thing I've ever seen on TV. You can tell there wasn't a single person involved in the production who cared what the end product would be like. It wasn't even Cowboy Bebop-tier "we have a totally incorrect and moronic vision for this" bad.
>Willow
I re-watched for the first time in years not too long back. Yeah, it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered either. Val Kilmer being awesome and the evil witches daughter being hot af saves it tho.
Its a sad state of the genre but golden age fantasy really does have almost no worthwhile content. Too many 40s-60s S&S movies are just Christian propaganda films, the 70s was mostly a dead zone, and the 80s was Conan and a massive horde of low quality copycats made by tasteless autists who don't understand why CTB worked. And of course, fantasy as a whole almost totally disappeared in the 90s before LOTR ruined the genre forever by cementing medieval western Europe as the forever fantasy setting, and what rare post 1989 fantasy films we get now that could fall into the S&S genre are fricking awful like 300 2007 Clash Of The Titans 2010 Conan 2011 and Hercules 2014. The entire genre is now just video game cutscene tier garbage aimed at homosexuals who only got into the scene because of D&D media and Magic The Gathering turning the entire genre into a homosexual far left wing otherkin LGBBBQT++ safe space to larp out their mental illness and politics in stories ripped straight out of video games.
We won't get any good S&S movies ever again unless some rich trust fund kid with actual taste deigns to make one just cause or AI generation comes into its own.
>40s-60s S&S movies are just Christian propaganda films
can't tell if atheist or neo-pagan, but 100% sure ur a gay >in the 90s before LOTR ruined the genre forever by cementing medieval western Europe as the forever fantasy setting
lotr locked in western europe as the default fantasy setting long before 2001, moron
Why should some people believing it’s true make you angry, especially at the films? There’s no way to dress this up as you not being a triggered homosexual.
idk, I don't believe it's true, but I like mythology and that's why I like sword & sandals movies, the connection between sword & sandal and sword & sorcery is far stronger than trying to link Conan to traditional fantasy, because Conan is supposed to be mythological and a-historical

That’s beside the point. You’re seething at movies due to some homosexualy ideological hangup. For example, the ten commandments is a great film. If chrisitans existing makes you so angry that an objectively good epic is ruined for you, it just comes across as mental illness. If I said I believe in hellenistic paganism, would clash of the titans suddenly be spoiled for you?

Watched Conan recently for the first time. Good movie but Arnold's delivery if often wonky, I wonder if that's why he barely speaks in the whole movie.

i've got deathstalker on vhs and watched some of it
low budget softcore rape porn is how i'd describe what i saw
it knows how silly it is though so it's not offensively bad
I think that stuff like Flash Gordon, John Carter, and Star Wars, while channeling pulp energy or are otherwise well-known pulp serials, are considered raygun gothic
>John Carter
God I wish there was an old era film of it. It’s amazing material for this genre. I would have loved a “Clash of the Titans” era movie of it.
I actually liked the movie for what it was, just wish they hadn't made it for Disney audiences because sex appeal is an important part of the pulp genre
The protag is a wizards apprentice but just like druids I don't think there is much magic in it. Besides the 3 that I posted none come into my immediate mind about wizards
if, after watching Conan the Barbarian, you're thinking that any other movie here recommended, League apart, is on par with the Millius, then you may take this fork to eat your soup: you are blending in, mango.
Doesn't get any better than the original Conan.
10/10 movie.
Beastmaster, Excalibur, Willow, are all worth a watch but really they're shit compared to Conan.
>Willow
I knew I was
forgetting a big one. Also Clash of the Titans.
Truly sad but true.
The original Conan stories are 10/10. The movie is an 8/10

Excalibur is just as good as Conan.
Also Legend is worth a watch.
Excalibur is great not in the same way Conan is. It isn't anywhere near as good overall.

biblical epics from the 60s are great, what the frick is this reddit take
some people can't appreciate mythology for what it is and have to take it seriously

yeah his delivery varies wildly in conan
he barely spoke english and memorized the lines verbatim
Most Roger Corman and Italian shit is good.
Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain (1983). Chink shit, but I genuinely believe anyone who's into sword and sorcery would enjoy it.
>Zu Warriors
Criminally underrated and underseen. good luck finding it on streaming. I still have my HK DVD issued in 2001.
You can find a torrent easily, though.
Off the top of my head:
>Beastmaster

How could you forget highlander my dawg?
>highlander
No idea anon. Absolutely love Highlander. It just slipped mind. The anime film from the early 00s is pretty decent watch as well.
Forgot about Legend. That's actually a really great movie.
here's the list anon, havent seen all of them but they all seem to be in the fantasy genre
Mazes and Monsters is quite literally an anti sword and sorcery movie but I'd still recommend watching it just for this
Yeah, that was a fun trip watching it with my D&D buddies back in college. Couldn't stop laughing at Tom.
13th Warrior isn't truly S&S, but it's fricking close enough
uh isnt Kull supposed to have blue grey eyes?
Imagine a modern remake of this with the Tren Twins.
I don't know them but I think those guys would take themselves too seriously for this kind of movie
BEHOLD
Deathstalker 2 is a fricking delight. It's porn tier acting comedy that you just don't see anymore.
i've got deathstalker on vhs and watched some of it
low budget softcore rape porn is how i'd describe what i saw
it knows how silly it is though so it's not offensively bad
It has the greatest title drop of any film
space sandals

The Warrior and the Sorceress got a blu ray release recently
My penor and I really enjoyed it
Nudity used to be an integral part of these types of movies, especially in the 80s. Now it's all LotR knock-offs.
Epic stuff
I'm sorry anon, if you want more kino like Conan you'll have to read
Dead genre, sadly. Remember to indoctrinate as many kids as you can with the greatness of S&S so they grow up to make movies in the genre
>Dead genre, sadly. Remember to train as many AIs as you can with the greatness of S&S so they grow up to make movies in the genre
Way ahead of you.
Recommend me some, where the main protagonist guy is a magician and not a sword/muscles/thief guy.
Slim pickings for this specific feel, sword and sorcery is mostly about swords vs sorcery
I miss made for TV movies, you would think they would be perfect for streaming but apparently not.
Frankly I don't think there's much magic in this one
The protag is a wizards apprentice but just like druids I don't think there is much magic in it. Besides the 3 that I posted none come into my immediate mind about wizards
Still the best dragon ever put on screen.
League cinematics.
i'm not joking.
The Call, Awaken, Warriors.
if, after watching Conan the Barbarian, you're thinking that any other movie here recommended, League apart, is on par with the Millius, then you may take this fork to eat your soup: you are blending in, mango.
The Barbarians of course
sam neil's merlin is great. much better than excalibur if you ask me
What an irritating fight for the dark haired dude.
kek where is this from
Bastard Swordsman. Pretty fun, but not really sword and sorcery.
Sword of the Valiant
