You genuinely wouldn't get it
And that's a good thing
normalgays love rick because he's le funny holier than thou man
reddit show
You don't
grass tastes bad
There’s nothing worse than a cast of buttholes that aren’t even funny.
>Who am I supposed to root for, or relate to, in this show?
So it's just a shittier version of Bojack?
Come on now… at least this show years of absolute ridicule and online jokes while the Californication rip off gets ass kissed to this day.
>while the Californication rip off gets ass kissed to this day.
Does it really? I saw pretty much all bojak dickriding stop once family guy BTFO'd that shit
Only thing Family Guy BTFO'd is itself lol. Calling Bojack "normal words but a horse guy" is almost objectively wrong regardless of your opinion on the show because 60% of Bojack's comedy comes from visual gags, puns, and jokes about the fact that they are animals.
If you're going to try and "BTFO" a show, you at least have to make a valid argument. All Family Guy did is make their own writers look moronic with that gag.
>seething this hard
yep, family guy btfo that horse show lol
angrier than the family guy writers get when they remember they've never won an emmy
What's the point of making em animals tho? Aside from a couple episodes in the first season there doesn't seem to be any rationale for it. To draw in furries? (not that they really give a shit)
visually interesting, visual puns, beastiality is haha
Eh there's nice backgrounds sometimes but visually it isn't much more interesting then Rick and Morty, it's nearing the same levels of Reddit tho like it or not
Both shows are terrible.
>Who am I supposed to root for, or relate to, in this show...?
You know, i would call you a gay for even asking this question on any show, but then the show itself asks you to root and relate to them at some point so i can't say its 100% your fault
summorty incest is what you should root for.
Literally my only real issue with Rick and Morty is that more often than not the family gets a little too smug and snarky nowadays. I actually have a theory that Roiland was largely to thank for the more campy sitcom feeling of their S1 dynamics. He seemed like the type who genuinely valued balancing some sincerity and heart with the more fricked up alternate universe shit, whereas Dan Harmon seems to care more about being subversive 24/7 and relying on awkward sex jokes.
God I miss Season 1.
It knew how to be smart without getting pretentious and how to be meta without getting insincere. I really don't get why Harmon felt the need to up the cynicism as they went along. It's fun to watch a show where you actually LIKE the characters. Now you're just miserable half the time.
I genuinely think Beth doesn't love or give a shit about anyone in her family aside from Rick.
For as much as a weirdo Roiland is, he's the only one who knew how to write the show.
Nahh plenty of Rick and Morty writers know their shit. Night Family was amazing. But those S1 fourth wall-breaking send-offs were definitely pulled straight out of Roiland's old internet cartoons. It's a bummer he couldn't stay motivated and maintain that same chill vision for more than 2 seasons.
Night Family was a guest-written episode, though.
?
Damn is VERY influenced by outside elements. The notable decline of Community was because he was reading the shows subreddit and saw they liked the cartoony, "meta" bullshit and amped it up in order to give the people what they wanted. R&M was "le heccin NIHILISM!" and people responded highly to the depressing shit they would occasionally pepper in, so hey- gotta give the people what they want, right?
And that's why that keeps happening to Dan Harmon programs.
Dan Harmon allowed his divorce to make him all emo and he used the show to vent his feelings and through off the balance. I made a meme a while ago comparing Dan Harmon to the creator of moral orel. it's the attached pic if you care to read it.
Wait a second, I always assumed Moral Oral was made by someone who was actually from a Christian Evangelical community, not by a Greek dude with no connection to that faith.
Can't believe they got away with cultural appropriation like that.
They all have a bit of Justin Roiland in them so you don't
You sound like a Jerry.
No one OP, just laugh at them and maybe be empathic with their misery
i tried rewatching this show recently and i dropped it around the same spot i did all those years ago: early season 3.
not exactly sure why but by season 3 the show already felt like it had bee running for decades and running on fumes. the drop in quality was really fricking stark
You remember the episode that made you quit? I like a lot of Season 3, but there are some stinkers in there like the Avengers parody.
> not exactly sure why but by season 3 the show already felt like it had bee running for decades and running on fumes
People don’t remember this but this disappointment season 3 caused was after 2 years of nothing from AS cause Roiland and Harmon were pissy at each other and couldn’t work for the sake of the show’s continuation
>Who am I supposed to root for, or relate to, in this show...?

mid and snorey
Ok I applaud the effort that went into this, that’s just too good
you're not supposed to like any of them; at most you should rooting for them to improve as people
>at most you should rooting for them to improve as people
But with how low they've sunken, combined with the fact they usually end up forgetting the moral lessons they learned, You usually never root for them.
So is Beth basically Justin Roiland's idea of the perfect daughter?
Beth is basically a mindbroken frickdoll for Rick and she will sick his dick and rim his butthole quite literally no matter what he does.
Like, this very easily goes way beyond abandonment issues and into "I want my dad and one of his clones to spit roast me all night". She literally does not care about ANYONE other than Rick in the show.
beth/jerry was all harmon
Why did people want more council of ricks/evil morty episodes so much?
the one in Season 3 was incredibly fricking gay and disgusting.
>the one in Season 3 was incredibly fricking gay and disgusting.
The Vindicators one? Yeah, I agree that was one of the worst episodes in the series.
yeah that one. really weird episode. and not in the good way.
unrelated but what the frick?
Hahahah so WEIRD, I wonder what they were smoking haha right?
>Script calls for a "Demon Stripper".
>Draw a Scaly OC instead.
the serialized story they had running sucked
bait.
just b/c you disagree with something doesn't make it bait
they built up this idea of an evil morty and did nothing with it after six seasons, that isn't building up anything, it's just sloppy writing
the citadel side episodes were bad, cry about it
>they built up this idea of an evil morty and did nothing with it after six seasons
It started strengthening Rick and Morty's bond to treat them more as equals (later solidified with the S6 finale) while also introducing a much bigger multiverse and villain for the show than we'd previously been aware of.
The """anticlimactic""" reveal that Evil Morty wasn't really evil all along has been one of the show's better subversions, and sending him off that way just works. Are there seriously people who felt cheated out of his arc?
it's not really a subversion, i don't think he was considered "evil" for any reason other than running the citadel
i don't get the point of bringing a character into the show, saying maybe they will maybe they won't become evil, they continue to do nothing, and then they're gone
it's bad writing
Have they done any GOOD writing?
Hardmode: after season 2
Ricklantis Mixup is a good episode despite being sandwiched in a shit season. Not even for the evil Morty stuff either, I actually just think the detective plotline is good and the episode as a whole is devoid of the annoying humor that ruins the rest of the show from that point on. It's basically the last time the show actually took itself seriously.
>muh Season 3 is shit
The only bad episodes are Vindicators and ABCs of Beth. The rest of the season is aces. You see how each of the family members cope with Beth & Jerry's separation, there are tons of cool sci-fi concepts, and even more iconic scenes or jokes. S3 also houses one of my favorite episodes: the Detox episode.
I hope you can at least admit that Seasons 3-4 are stronger than 5-6, even if the series as a whole never fully went to shit; it just stopped being consistently good. Nowadays, you never know what you're gonna get when you tune in (in a bad way).

When I feel really bad
Why is it that so few shows can pull off the "cast made up of buttholes that are still fun to watch" dynamic?
The best examples I can think of are Seinfeld and Always Sunny.
>Seinfeld
>Always Sunny
The characters in these shows never preach some bullshit message the writer wants to get force through the characters
You KNOW the characters in Always Sunny are buttholes and the show is about laughing AT them as it is laughing WITH them
R&M characters are just unfunny sociopaths a lot of the time
I agree with this. The characters are supposed to be universally unlikeable (liars, grifters cheaters).
The problem becomes the writers tend to make them into straw man for their views (making their character into a politician the writer doesn’t like). Once they do this the characters lose their appeal because, instead of just being a story about shitty people, it starts to feel like the writers are preaching their views to the audience.
Writing is hard. I'm trying to make my own animations using the story circle method since i really loved R&M s1/2 (with OC world/characters of course). I have some ideas for possible animations (im aiming at 3-6 minutes long time run), but man figuring out just how to introduce the characters has been far harder than i thought. I really dont like exposition dumps, but I need to name them/show their abilities and have it be entertaining enough.
Introduce them showing either what they do for a living or for fun. Or have them all do the same activity together to highlight how different their personalities are.
I figure it needs to be a action based as at least hook wise (since the animations are kinda gonna be based around that a lot too, in terms of scenarios). Funny thing is that ive done countless animated parodies over the years to hundreds of millions of views, and had no real problem staging or writing those, but with my own characters/world its like, holy shit, how do you pick and choose. Everything sounds good, but i know for a fact that I need to cement the characters and give them hard lines because a flawless op characters really arent fun.
>preach some bullshit message the writer wants to get force through the characters
That's Larry David's writing in a nutshell but at least he has the class to be subtle
A show doesn’t have to have relatable or nice characters you can root for to be good, it’s always sunny is a great show and the gang are completely horrible people. That said, it’s clear they are attempting to make the family seem relatable and like something you can root for unlike the gang, which is a horrible decision because of what you said.

>Who am I supposed to root for, or relate to, in this show...?
The fact you have to ask means you're Jerry.
>Who am I supposed to root for, or relate to, in this show...?
Do you have to?!
You're not supposed to relate to anyone in the show. You're supposed to just LIKE them because you enjoy their shenanigans. People LIKE Dr. Gregory House, but not because they RELATE to or see themselves in him. They like his snarky attitude. Goddamn, why are modern people desperate to "see themselves" or "relate" or some other form of self-insert? Just watch the damn show because you enjoy the events that transpire in it and how the characters handle things! It's not a hard concept.10 years ago, this wasn't an issue. Viewers are so damned narcissistic these days.
no one in the show is likable though, that's the entire point. there's no one to enjoy watching and no one to relate to. it's just a dogshit show, period.
even normies caught on to that fact and are sick of the characters. S6 viewership numbers were like half of all other seasons.
>Sanctimonious reddit mary sue self-insert
What? Rick constantly proves he is intellectually superior to everyone else, but even he admits his morals are fricked.
wow you are unironically too low iq to watch rick and morty
He isn't a Mary Sue, he fricks up all the time, is a bad person, and is despised by most of the cast. If that anon is low IQ then you are a brain dead lobotomite shit eating sewer Black person who doesn't even understand the meaning of the terminology he is using

Only when the writers need a conflict. Outside of that, he can pretty do anything the show needs him to do.
