It sucks that the only place that would pick up this critically-acclaimed show is some shitty right-wing streaming service created out of spite

Do you have a Mega of the most recent episodes in english? I only have up to episode 12.
How many are out? I'm not checking DW
What sucks more is that it's hard to find discussion or fanart of it since it has such a generic name.
This one is up to 15.

It's not really political in any way.

Lady Neel should just force William to marry her instead of killing him.
Why did they pick it up in the first place? Does it epouse their views, or is it because they bought into the Nordic larp?
The latter probably. The show doesn't seem to cater to any conservative views
I think it's more because they were desperate for ANYTHING to add to their shitty service so they had to scramble for foreign cartoons that hadn't already been licensed to the bigger streamers.
Is there a way to get a subbed rip?
Somebody would have to be willing to pay for a Bentkey/Dailywire+ subscription first.
Wasn't there already a mega?
I think it was part of the share thread and it was French only.
We haven’t had a share thread for a while so I cannot confirm.
Oh wait next post has it.
>right-wing streaming service
>or is it because they bought into the Nordic larp?
I think it's funny how the modern right, who stereotypically is stubborn about their Christian faith, have picked up the Pagans as friends, when like a century or two ago, hard Christians would've converted or cleansed them from the local population
There are relatively very few legitimate pagan worshippers, most of them following the norse stuff are just doing it for the aesthetic.
Besides that, whether or not they are authentic pagans, its not that difficult to put together that people who believe in a higher power will find more in common with each other than with those who don't, right wing factions today pick up on that.
>converted or cleansed
Funny way to spell "assimilated and renamed their holidays, because they refused to stop celebrating them, pretending they were always christian holidays", but you do you.
Wow, bitter much?
You must be a blast at parties
Oh, wait..
Why? I'm just stating facts. Look into the roman Saturnalia or the scandinavian Jûl holidays for examples.
>parties
b***h please. I'm old enough to be your dad, and I've wasted more time here than you've been alive. I don't give a frick about parties. I get all the human interaction I need on my day job and the occasional family gatherings.
Yet you're still shitposting on Cinemaphile
Correct. I'd rather waste my time in this shithole than interact with irl people I don't care about. Were you trying to make a point? Maybe some clever attempt at a gotcha?
No, just confirming that you're full of shit whose opinion can be completely disregarded
Concession accepted. Your'e not really good at this, (You)farmer-kun. Your goal is to keep shittalking so I'll keep feeding you attention, not to admit defeat 3 posts and slink back into irrelevance.
homie a century ago was 1924, you're thinking more like a thousand years ago.
Cry more homosexual
You wouldn't have watched this either, /misc/larper
Like supporting zionists is better
you mean Netflix?
Why is this about politics?
It’s about an interesting period of history that even most Viking LARPers don’t know shit about. And the link I downloaded things on kept being interrupted by my internet dropping out and is only in French.
I will settle for a non-subbed link so long as I can use it to download these properly.
Use jdownloader
Now that you said it was on a right wing streaming service, it has Bible adventures written all over it.
So, right-wing Vikingskool?
No, it’s about Norse magic and a young man named William.
it's not associated with the right wing at all. It's just one of the shows Bentkey purchased the distribution rights to to fill out their catalog
But in doing so they basically doomed the show.
From what I can gather it was already aired and finished in 2022 before they bought it. Can't do much to it now.
The odds of there being any US fanbase are exponentially lower than if it had aired on basically anything else though. Even AMC's streaming service.
The thing is, the odds of it being picked up by anyone else was already small. Has any notable English streaming service or TV channel acquired Anatane? Droners? Imago? Marblegen? No. The market for non-toddler animation done outside of "the system" is dire. Now that VRV is dead, who knows if the second season of Lastman will ever get a dub.
It's dubbed in Montreal, as the show was co-produced there.
Marblegen is streaming here
https://www.amebatv.com/video.html?s=851&v=30714
And there's a Prime page for it
https://www.primevideo.com/detail/Marblegen/0N1W8U41WNXUQDX839XCW77JZC
>It's dubbed in Montreal, as the show was co-produced there.
You would think being produced in Canada, it would be on TV somewhere here
The Bentkey Android app, which is only a few months old and only available in the U.S., has 5x the downloads Ameba's multi-year old one on Google Play. The availability on Prime seems very spotty and that service buries its non-original content anyway. That's one of those, "if a tree falls down in the forest but no one's around, does it make a sound?" kind of things.
As for Canadian TV, it's kind of a perfect example of how bad things are. Take a look at what's on the kids broadcasters. Corus (which owns YTV, the channel previously known as Teletoon, etc.) has pretty much given up on shows produced outside of the big American studios, with the few Canadian productions largely being stuff they produce in-house or are legally required to make in Quebec. The English public broadcasters don't really deal much in non-toddler stuff. WildBrain only picks up a handful of shows and it's usually aimed at girls or is gender neutral.
I mean some of that is quality. "We're making our own version of Brooklyn 99. It will almost completely re-use the scripts, it's just a different setting and cast" is the sort of innovation we're seeing these days.
I'm really hoping WildBrain picks it up. They already have that Mormon-funded show on their channels
I'd argue that the hideous streaming wars are a big part of why animation isn't getting picked up - it's not a safe investment and everyone is trying to hedge their bets and circle their wagons as they all try to make their own streaming service.
And stuff like The Daily Wire wanting their own streaming service ("with less hookers and blackjack!") makes that worse.
The issue is audience fragmentation and ultimately, that was happening regardless of the streaming wars. In the '90s and early '00s, you had cable channels siphon viewers from the broadcast networks. Then that turned into constantly updated video games, UGC platforms and Netflix - which have all been competing with linear for audiences for a long time now.
The end result is that so many options have led to the average show having smaller audiences than ever before. That's pretty much killed linear, which is why the only stuff still being made in that space are live events, episodic cop/doctor series for the elderly and cheap to make reality shows. The problem is that streaming hasn't been as profitable as linear used to be. For years, those companies ignored that in the hopes that constant growth would eventually pull them out of that hole. It hasn't, growth has slowed and interests rates are higher, so they're cutting back on spending and adding commercials.
The belt tightening, vertical integration (outside of Sony, every major Hollywood studio has their own streaming service) and renewed push to, you know, make money, has hurt the acquisitions market. With a smaller budget, these companies would rather divert their money to shows they own (or at the very least, are established brands) than licensing out someone else's work and building a brand for them.
If it’s dubbed in Canada then they probably got the dub alright.
Stuff like the Mysterious Cities of Gold alway had problems where American networks changed too much around or more usually gave the wrong sort of voices.
Mutt dubs always sound like they hire advertisement narrators instead of actors. Canadian VAs are very soulful.
>if you don't like our woke services go make your own you white bigot!
>ok
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Cause political creation are always worse than the ones which are doing it for the money. And I would like to watch Runes; with its pagan magic, strong women who don’t need no man and historical narrative which doesn’t mesh with American right wing politics.
>Cause political creation are always worse than the ones which are doing it for the money
Yeah, that's exactly why all the woke shit sucks.
>it's okay when my side do it, though
You don't believe in anything.
I believe in plenty of things, like revenge, for example. Nothing good is going to happen, but if there's still some hope for the bad things to happen to you, I'll take it.
Yeah, but I never have to wake up as the kind of person who would type that message and then have the gall to continue living so I've got that going for me.
>whataboutism
Black person, all the other streaming services are doing left wing propaganda and it all sucks. The most right wing thing you can say about Runes is that it wasn't compelled to shoehorn black people into its 10th century Nordic setting.
The only reason its on DW is because having an all white cast is verboten on any other streaming service.
I feel like that distinction is very tenuous when mainstream streaming platforms are anything but apolitical. Netflix literally finances Obama-produced movies and at one point, attempted to make an "Anti-Racist Baby" animated series (thankfully, it got aborted). Disney has done plenty of things over the years that were transparently ideologically driven. I mean, this is the company that puts LGBT content in $200 million kids movies. No company in their right mind would do that because it only hurts the boxoffice and movies that expensive can't afford to turn people off.
>"Anti-Racist Baby" animated series
In fairness it was meant to be a few animated "don't be a bigot" PSAs, with a short adaptation of "Anti-Racist Baby" meant to be the first in the series. The reporting made it seem like they were trying to turn that one book-for-toddlers into an animated series, but it was just "Netflix is going to animate some PSAs based on books" not a proper animated series.
Music video PSAs actually. It was going to be a very odd project.
That only further suggests it was an ideologically driven project, because that's not a format anyone pays Netflix to watch.
Here I shrug. It was green lit during that golden period when Netflix was throwing money at lots of animated projects. I'm not saying it was a GOOD idea, but it wasn't "Anti Racism Baby: The Animated Series." It was going to be a series of musical animated short PSAs apparently with an emphasis on unusual art styles, with the ARB adaptation just being the headliner for the project.
god remember when everyone thought nexflix would save animation by throwing money at endless series? that was a better time.
>throwing money at endless series?
It was foreseen that netflix would quickly run out of money, because they lack the corporate funding that prime video or disney+ have
That same company puts out an endless stream of Christian themed media and props up hacky old boomer comedians whose only joke is le troon. Obama being a media producer says less about the politicization of media and more about the mediafication of politics, an ongoing process since at least Reagan where increasing numbers of politicos are failed and or former hollywood types. It's not just things like Obama making movies or a reality TV show host president, it's Ben Shapiro the failed screenwriter and more malingnantly influencers turned politicians. Netflix like any corporate entity is definitionally valueless and legally obligated to only pursue profits. If they don't ruthlessly extract profit then other streaming services will.
To make the maximum amount of money as a *family entertainment* brand its just good business to host a diverse selection of politically oriented material. You want households to have Netflix accounts that every member of the family finds enjoyable on some level. The majority of their consumers are either socially liberal or social minorities themselves. Alienating that massive demographic by shoveling out right wing media makes no sense and is made worse by a poverty of creative right wingers. Similarly however they won't host a slate of purely liberal coded media because that would alienate members of the family, fewer members but customers nonetheless. It's best to make sure that grandma gets her shitty Christmas propaganda picture and that her grand daughter can watch shows that don't tell her she will be tortured eternally for loving a woman.
To me that isn't a political orientation towards any kind of actual social cohesion. It's a cynical attempt to capitalize on and aggravate the sharp political divide we are experiencing at the moment. A divide that frankly speaking Trump made significantly deeper by pushing so many young people to the left.
this is also why "right wing streaming services" are doomed to essentially fighting over the same dwindling demographics unless they do what they've done here and shore up their content with non political material that reflects common social sentiment.
NTA, Is there data to back up that the majority of streaming service consumers are socially liberal?
Or do you mean specifically just Netflix? (though I guess that data would be interesting to see as well.)
>That same company puts out an endless stream of Christian themed media
I really hope you're not just talking about Santa shit or Hallmark-tier romance movies that take place during the winter season.
>gets her shitty Christmas propaganda
... That's exactly what you're referring to, isn't it? You're one of the "Hallmark movies are fascist" people, aren't you?
What are you on about? Clearly they were talking Netflix being inherently apolitical
> Cause political(ly-motivated) creation(s) are always worse
You.
Don't.
Fricking!
SAY!
Man, WHERE have I heard people say that before.
> B-but my politics are good! And besides they d-don't do that sort of thing anyway.
Frick off.
You're either criminally stupid or unironically malicious.
I dont care about the political spectrum, I'm not paying for another streaming scam
God, I've been missing out on so many good French stuff because it's not as widely distributed as japanese animation. This is good news for me if it reaches english audiences one way or another.
Whats with the French animation and being niche and weird and usually kind of disappointing?
That's just the French for you.
The French sometimes make gold tier shows and comics.
bent key is controlled opposition.
twowitnessesofrevelation.com
What gives with there being no official dubs/subs of 99.9999% of French animation?
And don't give me /misc/ wankery, it's finished animation that just needs some subs/dubs, you'd think there'd be people looking for the quick profits of translation. Is it that French companies want a lot of money or something?
The French animated shows I’ve seen usually get dubbed and sold via the UK.
I just suspect that the English-speaking cartoon market is too small to search for international hits after local shows and reruns of older hits.
This. Just look at Vikingskool. Disney went to all the trouble of buying the rights to distribute a Cartoon Saloon show then barely remembered it existed.
Off the top of my head, I remember Code Lyoko aired on Cartoon Network back in the early 00s. Still, you're right and I've wondered why there aren't third party distributor Funimation or Seven Seas equivalents for French comics and cartoons.
>Off the top of my head
>Code Lyoko
Their foreheads are hilariously huge.
Is it caving to the woke to bother putting subtitles on their dubs?
CC for the deaf = Diversity & Inclusion
So yes
What the frick does woke even mean for you morons?
Black folk
Right wing cuz there is not black vikings?
We truly live in a moronic time.
No, the streaming service which picked up the show and paid for the dubbing is part of brietbart.
The show is apolitical but no one watched or knows about it because it’s on a streaming service that exists solely to extract a tiny sliver of the market’s money. People angry enough about politics and animated enough to not just skip the stuff they don’t like.
What are you doing to advertise it?
Posting rips on Cinemaphile
You should be happy anyone picked it up at all. This show has a crazy production history and took like 15 years to finish. There's an English version, but it's never been released:
It sucks because for all people talk about anime taking over. There is a whole selection of PG/T shows in French that can be dubbed and distributed as western animation, even with their anime cross inspirations.
God shitmericans are pathetic.
a whole ass Runes thread, and I almost missed it?
any Hela/Fenrir fanart?
but damn you can tell this thread was made during united stater hours, what a shit show
this, so much this
Droners and Imago are both kinda mid but have really good animation. Mars Express is also coming out soon in theaters in most countries (it's a banger go see it)
>guess "it's vaguely historical" terrified services like Netflix and Amazon into thinking nobody would watch
I don't think that's the problem. The whole thing is about magic and dead gods during medieval times so it's pretty on par with other shows on these platforms (vox machina on amazon for example, or Hilda / The ragon Prince on Netflix).
The reality is that most studios from countries that aren't either in north america or in japan struggle immensely to finance their animated productions. Andarta has been making banger teasers over banger teasers and (afaik) still none of their IPs production was financed despite them actively seeking out streaming services to produce their shows.
The only two french studios that are doing fine are Fortiche because RIOT bucks and La Cachette because they have been working with Tartakovsky
>but damn you can tell this thread was made during united stater hours, what a shit show
>this, so much this
I'm normally one to join in any raging at the Yanks, but dammit OP is right: it DOES suck that the only place that would pick up the critically-acclaimed show is the shitstain made-out-of-spite /misc/streaming service best known for ripping off Bluey.
I agree, but this could have been one or two messages ITT, and instead 60% of this thread are people engaging in braindead /misc/ fighting
>Nooooo! Only queer Marxists have any right to distribute muh too ooo opinions
Bentkey wouldn't exist if the other platforms werent, without exception, staffed by pedo-groomer-plebbitors.

Can anyone recommend other recent French animation?
Preferably not wakfu or other "we animated a video game" stuff please.
Lastman season 1 and 2, Le collège Noir.
Tobi Lolness had an adaptation that has been released a month ago on french public tv channel.
Are there subs?
I don't think so.
One more reason for me to continue learning French then.
Here for the torrent (might be geo-lock, idk): https://www3.yggtorrent.qa/torrent/filmvid%C3%A9o/animation-s%C3%A9rie/1123234-tobie+lolness+s01+truefrench+webdl+1080p+aac+x264-lesharkoiste
It's a french-speaking torrent site, it's semi-private with quotas (the limit is 15Go). You can create as much accounts as you want with different email adresses.
Thanks. Maybe I'll understand something in a few months if I don't get lazy with learning.
>It sucks that the only place that would pick up this critically-acclaimed show is some shitty right-wing streaming service created out of spite
Especially painful since it's sincerely not a Conservative work, but I guess "it's vaguely historical" terrified services like Netflix and Amazon into thinking nobody would watch.
How bad is the dub?
A bit weird at first if you got used to the french version, but it's really not that bad
Where was it dubbed?
I meant location
US? UK? Canada?
Canada, the show was a french/canadian production
I dislike the stiff and jerky character animation.
You get used to it.
I do not wish to get used to stiff jerky animation.
The alternative is tweening
Pick your poison
I want another way.
Not on a TV budget
Looking back I think I preferred tweening to the pseudoflash hellscape we're in now.
t. zoomer
Nobody does
This is the same techniques as Arcane, 3D models on 2d backgrounds.
Just cheaper
It's just cel shading. As good as it could possibly look though.
I only found out about this show recently because of the tiny bit of smutty art I've seen for it.
Source?

>Celia and Lady Neel got lewds before Alice
Odd, usually people gravitate to the jailbait character asap.

That's what I could find on Alice.
Whats name of both?
This art is great. Wish there was more out there.
You could do a second series based on Williams grandsons
William’s sons were almost all awful people but Robert Duke of Normandy sired several illegitimate children while wandering Europe as a knight after his first failed rebellion.
Pick one of them.
This sounds like it could be kino. Hopefully they do pick one.
bump
bump
Normally I would roll my eyes at the chosen one and viking magic. But Rollo was a pagan viking hired to stop other vikings and William was his descendent.
I ship them, but we all know nothing comes out of it becuase William marries Matilda/Maud of Flanders and he stay faithful to her famously having no illegitimate offspring.
Good thing we have fanfics to cope with instead.
>He trusts written history
Seems like stuff I've seen hundreds of times before, also reminded me of Xyber 9 in particular
I miss ya, Rene
Show is great, but the Dame Neel/William is 100x more interesting than whatever is going on with Loki, especially during the 1st half.
Medieval politics is personal and William did a lot of politics in his life.
It’s almost sad that a brush with ancient pagan gods while in hiding would probably be some of his happiness memories.
Compared to how his adult life and children went.
>tfw no qt smol fluffy goblin gf
I thought only Valerian and Dofus characters got Normandy tomboys but here is one more.
Though too much a Viking to be a red head.
The Valerian movie was criminal
Should just have shelled out to make more anime-style stuff like the cartoon
Great show. Seems so simple, yet so interesting. Only French can produce something like this nowadays while muttoids are stuck with idpol shitfighting.
There is a brown woman. But she seems to be just a thief and I guess a relic of Viking raids.
Oh and all the cast who aren’t rich, forest-dwelling or young are tanner because they spend their lives in the sun.
Bless them for Arcane.
>tfw done with dubbed episodes
Fugg. My only choice is google translated subs now?
AI could help dub the rest.
https://techxplore.com/news/2024-01-faulty-machine-litter-web.html
That requires too much work for something that would be obsolete in 2 and a half months.
True. Either way it sucks the other episodes aren't officially dubbed.
They release the dubbed episodes weekly, every Saturday.
Good to know.
The what now?
OP is a homosexual
I actually prefer the dub voices, surprisingly they have more variety compared to French cast.
Same. Dub was fine.
Watched it all. Show’s great. Rare DW W. (I don’t know what dw is past being Christian focuses from what other anons had to say they did good in nabbing this.
Nice art
>I don’t know what dw is
DW is the girl from Arthur.
Or possibly an abbreviation of Darkwing Duck.
Those are the only DWs that will ever really matter on Cinemaphile.
I miss Chaptor.
OK, what's DW?
DailyWire
I'm not sure why he thinks an outlet run by a bunch of middle-aged israelites would be Christian.
Children of Morta got a cartoon?
I hate Mega so goddamn much.
Why?
Presumably because each episode is half a gig in size and the mega download limit is getting in the way.
Just user VPN and switch IP each time it gets stuck. I managed to download 20 GB files like that.
Why are you idiots manually downloading shit when jd2 exists?
>this thread has been necrobumped for 3 days
jesus fricking christ, why is Cinemaphile so dead?
I've been watching and I'm at episode 6 now.
The series has a good pacing and english dub is quite ok. Characters are interesting and I'm in love with the design.
I'm currently playing urban fantasy TTRPG with France as its setting and we're doing some exploration of its history in order to uncover some mysteries. Watching this series is bringing me joy. Truly, a cozy animation.
This makes me sad, however, on not watching more french animation. Code Lyoko was one of my favourite cartoons during my childhood. French people are indeed creative. French TTRPG are pretty good.
I've seen some recomendations on french animation on this thread and I'll note it down to watch later.
Any other recommendations you all got?
I smell a pagan larper. Return to the site once you're above 18
Watched episode 13 and the Troll sacrificing himself makes no sense because there was only one shadow soldier left and he wouldn't hurt Hilda anyway. This was just to build up some tension for Sleippner arriving 5 seconds later to save everyone. I hate when shows do this kind of stuff.
I thought it was meh
They'll probably bring him back eventualy. The MEGA in
is up to episode 16 now. I hope we get more soon.
Cool
Here all 26 eps in French:

>some shitty right-wing streaming service created out of spite
Been living under a rock. Which streaming service is this?
Bentkey
Who cares about the streaming service and why it exists. Are the shows good is the question you should be asking.
