seriously though, why would they kill this?
they have like 60mil subs already and great content, really good value compared to their competition

When have CEOs been known to make smart decisions at the expense of their ego?
HBOMAx didnt have 60M subs, they added HBO and HBOMax together to get that number. They never revealed the exact breakdown of which service got which. It was probably 40M for HBO and 20M for HBOMax
All HBO users got free HBO Max at the same price ($14.99) though, it's the same thing now.
it wasnt universal and it depended on which carrier you got your HBO from. Also you had to activate HBOMax and it wasnt automatic which lots of HBO subscribers didnt do.
Yeah you had to activate it so a few boomers wouldn't do it I guess you're right. The actual number of subscribers is 76 million though, considering the price they're pulling more gross revenue than disney+ hahah this streaming business is crazy man
Well that all sounds pretty stupid.
why did they need two streaming services anyway?
Because they were moronic. Going to 1 service is a good thing, but I don't know why they chose the one with less name recognition to keep
How did they kill it again? Content is head and shoulders above the competition but the app itself is a piece of shit at least here ir europooria
Yeah I was surprised at all the genuine kino on the app. You would never know because it's not on the front page and you have to manually type it in. On the Roku app it has a function on the main screen to search for whatever you're looking for and it will scour every streaming service to see if it's on there. 9/10 times it's sitting on HBO but youd never know
They’re going to gut it to get people to move to discovery +
>they're going to try to get 76 million subs to some literal who service nobody knows about
Sounds like bullshit, HBO Max is the fastest growing streaming service in the market despite being the most expensive not even the most inbred israelite in the world would even consider that
They're gonna kill everything scripted and only do reality. Hbo nax will now also be a tab under discovery plus.
The current ceo is the guy who turned discovery into cheap reality shows
Can you guys recommend me some shows? I only know them for the sopranos
Eastbound & Down
euphoria
HBO are notorious for cancelling good series before they're finished
Game of Thrones was the end of HBO
the mouse feasts and never rests. it moves you around at will. it gives you choices and you think you're free. the mouse will feast on you and me.
The mouse is about to get bailed out albeit, look at THIS

Cinemaphile can not speak business. We might be able to bluff our way through half-genuine critique of the content, but we have no fricking idea what we're talking about when it comes to the business side of things.
Cinemaphile is so dumb they think if a big summer movie cost 300 million to make and earned 301 million back that the studio would be happy.
Studios don't care how much money they make. It's all just money laundering. And the israeli lobby pays them very well to put more Black folks in their movies.
I don't quite agree with you here. I believe everyone knows that the total cost of a movie is the budget plus around 50-60 mils spent on advertising (when it comes to DC kino since they've been trying it too hard).
>I believe this completely arbitrary number is how much advertising costs
Righto mate....
They're not moron, the source of this rumor is Grace Randolph who is a legit sperg.
with all the moves Discovery is making, it is pretty obvious what they are doing.
1. HBOMax is getting folded into Discovery+. They are stopping making original scripted content for HBOMAX and going for cheap reality show content like Shark Week or Property Brothers.
2. HBO will stay as it is and probably be 'beefed' up
3. Movies will be big-budget blockbusters from now on. No mid-tier or cheap movies like Batgirl.
Why are they mutilating the studio like this? The app was great and I use it the most out of all other streaming services. Is it literally just greedy execs trying to prop up their own service by mangling it? That's fricking stupid.
It doesn't make any sense, this sounds like disneycope to me, Euphoria being more popular than the mandalorian and all that
>Euphoria
Euphoria is HBO and not HBOMax. Nothing is changing with HBO but HBOMax is gone.
I dunno man, that's what I read on the Batgirl cancellation articles that it's part of a larger restructuring
>no article or evidence
Yeah I'm calling bullshit, it'd be a shame if true HBO Max is the only streaming shit worth the price tag
Just wait another 1 or 2 days because on Thursday when Discovery announces their future plans, it will be revealed whether this is true or now
This is pretty much a compilation of everything I didn't want in my streaming services.
I like low budget films when they aren't pretentious or trying to be more than a simple weekend option. Netflix has made a business model out of this kind of thing, so I don't understand why HBO can't continue to do this particularly for superhero shows which are basically prime ground for this. I despise reality TV, and if I wanted to watch it there's so much freely available already that I have 0 reason to sub for it. There's also no reality TV show that entices anyone to sub to anything, period, because its all relatively the same. And I barely care about the main HBO channel, since all the shows end up on max anyway and I don't need to wait around for them to air. HBO also airs shows back to back anyway the exact same as if someone were binging them, so max is literally just a more convenient way of watching the exact same way that the channel provides.
> Netflix has made a business model out of this kind of thing, so I don't understand why HBO can't continue to do this
Netflix stock tanking was probably the reason for these decisions
Not really. Netflix did great with stuff like to all the boys, kissing booth, and so on. Young adults really don't care that much about quality, nor do comic book fans so long as you're making stories for characters that might otherwise get overlooked.
The problem for Netflix is that they have no premium offerings beyond stranger things to pull people onto the service in the first place. HBO doesn't have that problem, they have the opposite issue. HBO shows are generally always going to be a draw, and they have a number of hits on par or past stranger things in popularity with general audiences. Their main issue is filling out the library with stuff that will work for specific interest groups. DC animated shows are currently doing that, but they don't have much else and animation isn't an appealing way to get new people interested. Low budget reboot movies and live action cheap superhero movies/shows would have been a sensible move for them.
>seriously though, why would they kill this
What do you mean by this? Is HBO max going somewhere?
pls god no it has the most content I enjoy and I can leech it of mommy and daddy's HBO cable subscription for free
>pls god no it has the most content I enjoy and I can leech it of mommy and daddy's HBO cable subscription for free
You know what else is "free," you drooling mouthbreather?
your mom's pussy, yes I know
Wait I haven't watched Westworld season 4 yet. I heard it's better then season 3.
>I heard it's better then season 3.
It isn't. They actually made it worse by shoehorning in more affirmative action characters.
As long as I can keep leeching off my parents cable for the new service I’ll be fine with it
Only streaming app worth a shit, what are you meaning by this?
>great content, really good value compared to their competition
There is nothing there. It's absolutely barren. It has like 20 movies and 30 shows.
qrd?
the service hasn't even launched in most yurop countries yet...
Heartbreaking
Wait a second here... How did we get from "They are not releasing a movie about a minor black female heroine" to "The service is clearly collapsing! It`s over!"
Because apparently they're restructuring all WB projects for cinemas only. Batgirl was the first casualty and other shows/movies WB was making for HBO will be axed too
I could understand focusing on making movies for cinema and having HBO Max as the destination as a later date. I don`t necesarily agree as i have not gone to the movies since capeshit took over but i could understand it. Not sure about the tv shows though. Where would projects that don`t belong on the big screen go if not HBO max?
That doesn`t really make sense to me. I realize reality tv has it`s audience and all but isn`t one of the rules of money making to diversify one`s investments?
>Where would projects that don`t belong on the big screen go if not HBO max?
HBO
The Discovery CEO who now runs HBO/WB/DC/AS/CN/CW wants to cancel everything and just run cheap reality tv which he's done always before. This is pretty much a given and will be announced on Thursday
why would you kill the currently strongest streaming service just so you can peddle cheap reality tv? who the frick is gonna sub to that?
People who love cheap reality tv. Plus it's cheap which means they don't lose as much money.
What I don’t understand is Discovery + & HBOMax has completely different bases. For the most part Discovery+ Subscribers are reality show junkies.
HBO Max on the other hand caters to people who like quality programming & things like that.
How are you sit there & say run an ad that features: Euphoria, Batman, Harry Potter, on Discovery+ along with also catch up with how Chip renovates a house, zak bagans looking for ghost, & DR pimple popper crossover with 90 day fiancé
>captcha: G0Y
Why did they buy HBO then? That's like buying Ferrari so you can make fricking Honda Civics, they're THE premium cable/streaming channel, people pay three times as much as for disney because the content is three times better
Based. All your homosexual content deserved getting axed.
This. Current corporate "culture" promotes shareholder value meaning that board of directors don't care about building a brand's value over a long period of time, but extracting the maximum amount of value over a short period of time to appease faceless shareholders. Then when the brand is in the gutter they move into the next company to cannibalize. Short termism is vampirism and its literally killing everything good about America.
Back in the old days guys like Disney and Ford realized the utility in creating high quality products that acted as investments in the future of their brand. Now everything is centered around cutting costs.
tl;dr no one is invested in the future, there is no common culture, people are out to make quick buck by destroying the old gods.
Does zaslav even watch YouTube or any social media video platforms? Reality like tv media is being produced now by YouTubers/tiktokers with the same if not better production quality than all the discovery tv shows do. It’s unironically dinosaur brain mentality thinking. The only thing I can wrap my head around is that the rumors that he wants to sell this discovery/Warner mega merger to Comcast due to his 17 year history with the company explains this absolute crazy shift in business.
He won’t sell it, he wouldn’t have bothered cleaning and prepping this much and the merger was built on the promise that AT&T shareholders would profit. Worst case scenario Zaslav is a stubborn oldgay that tries to Discovery everything like canning HBOmax in favor of Discovery+ and focusing on shitty cable TV. Best case scenario he cleans everything up and starts some good projects, brings comics to max like viz media, and capitalizes on anime. Unfortunately yeah I think Zaslav is too much of an oldgay, kilar could do it but he’s long gone
completely wrong
So what exactly is going on
I thought HBO Max and Discovery were already owned both by Warner brothers what's the point of merging them? They produce entirely different content
WB is owned by Discovery, Inc which is gutting the studio to be cinema focused. The idea is fricking stupid since movies are still fairing poorly and millions al
Discovery owns WB and they're switching its focus to cinemas only projects. Which is stupid because cinemas still haven't fully recovered from the quarantines and most people already accustomed to streaming services.
>Which is stupid because cinemas still haven't fully recovered from the quarantines and most people already accustomed to streaming services.
Top Gun Maverick you dumb double motherfricker
>cinemas still haven't fully recovered from the quarantines
People do not want to move their asses to theaters anymore unless they're being served something that'll satisfy their need for escapism. Which basically means that almost everything will fail or underperform. Spiderman proved that the muh quarantine excuse is utter bullshit.
I just have a serious question. I don’t have cable & am subbed to HBOMax. If they kill the HBOMax Service/app Will HBO & HBO Max programs/movies be included in Discovery+? Or will HBO be its own subscription & not get anything Warner related?
Because Discovery only cares about Discovery
>hurr durr why CBS put show on Paramount+
That's how stupid you sound
So HBOMax will be in Discovery+ instead of Discovery+ being in HBOMax (like Cartoon Network and other shit)? That's insane. HBOMax is a known brand. Discovery+ just sounds like another cable channel that also has a streaming option.
It's too moronic to be true, HBO Max already has 75 million subscribers with huge markets still to go, my guess is that they'll just dump all that reality shit on HBO Max and that would be that, no one is going to pay 15 bucks a month to watch some pimp my house muttslop
>they have like 60 mil subs
Do they? I got a year for free when I upgraded my phone. I’d never pay for it.
>great content
lmao good one homosexual
Tokyo Vice and season 1 of Raised by Wolves is kino.
Is Discovery really a bigger brand than HBO? Wouldn’t it make more sense to merge and keep the HBO name?
>D&D unironically killed the original premium cable channel with their incompetence
kek
Just Rebrand it to Warner Max like it was going to be.
see, that's a good branding
warner > hbo > shit > discovery
I like it.
Actually semi competent. You still have the problem of dissonance in the programming catalog though.
Just give it its own tabs: Max Originals, HBO, Warner/Movies & Discovery, along with the other hubs in HBOMax. Problem Solved, just
Unironically looks good
I exclusively use hbomax and Hulu. If this is true half of my shows will be gone. Major bummer. I watch a lot of Adult Swim content on HBO besides the occasional drama
It would still be there, theyre just going to call it discovery plus now and they're cancelling a bunch of hbomax originals
Why are people saying it's getting killed? Because they removed a bunch of dogshit original movies that nobody liked anyways? You gays fans of Batgirl or something?
Does this mean Curb is done?
Thats an HBO show, not am hbomax show so it would be fine (if Larry actually makes another)
Zaslav The Slasher is just killing hbomax originals (raised by wolves, made for love, close enough, batgirl, etc) and some future projects. Blue beetle and the flash would also be fine since they are theatrical releases.
HBO can't make good shows like it used to so who cares what happens to it? Westworld is dog shit. Raised by Wolves was not only moronic, but the most pozzed show every created. Game of thrones was mostly filler. Most of the original content is better suited for BET+. The documentaries are about shit nobody cares about. Nobody makes a big deal about getting an HBO comedy special. True Detective was a glimmer of hope, but HBO hit its prime in the early 2000's and it will continue to be dog shit until the cultural pendulum swings closer to normalcy.
What about Succession?
>Raised by Wolves was not only moronic, but the most pozzed show every created.
You are delusional
Succession is the best show on air right now, the miniseries are still kino. Fricks sake chernobyl was one of the best shows of the century and it wasn't that long ago
blow it out your ass
I heard TD is getting a new season without pizzalotta and it will have female leads.
AT&T gutted HBO and Warner Bros to prop up a streaming service that they could bundle when selling internet service to Americans.
AT&T sold WB to a cable TV empire.
The cable TV empire now owns HBO and wants to restore prestige to it.
The cable TV empire now owns a movie studio and wants to restore it to blockbuster movie glory.
"HBOMax" originals were mostly garbage that still cost lots of money for marketing and production.
Streaming is not the future.
If in the future Discovery sells off WB, it won't really lose anything except some content that was on Discovery+
>Streaming is not the future.
lol
Arkham and The Penguin series are also cancelled fyi. Announcement soon.
Tokyo Vice bros, I'm scared
If you look at the app you can see which shows are branded HBO Original and Max Original. Shows like Euphoria, Westworld, and Succession are HBO. Tokyo Vice was a Max original so you might be fricked.
moron showrunner should have made it a miniseries. Felt way too stretched out to fill episodes and make multiple seasons and now its probably over.
this, station eleven chads dont have to worry about anything because our story has been told
Middling show that only got greenlit because of Mann's name
If this Shark Week bullshit delays Peacemaker Season 2 I'm not going to be a happy customer.
They should have focused the show on based Sato and dropped the ugly white girl that everyone loves for some reason and it could have been finished in one season.
One dumb b***h makes one dumb tweet.
It's not happening you morons.
HBO is already $15 a month, frick these greedy buttholes. Almost as bad as PBS splitting their content into 4 subscriptions
>Almost as bad as PBS splitting their content into 4 subscriptions
What? Why are they doing that? Aren't they funded by the public anyway? Why do you need a subscription to watch the content?
>Why do you need a subscription to watch the content?
you don't. that guy is a moron
So is Peacemaker gonna get shit-canned?
Eat shit Gunn your show is not the only thing on the service people care about.
>am I still getting my goyslop???
>yea bby is ok
frick this planet
Why don’t you whinge about it on an anonymous anime website.
Thank you.
No, they're just shelving movies nobody watches and using them as a tax write off. they'll still be making original scripted programs. just disgruntled former employees spreading false rumors
Wait what? It's dead? What about the new Looney Tunes Cartoons?
Are they being removed from torrent sites?
Raised by wolves has to be on the list. Tokyo Vice? Maybe.
Rap Sh!t? For Sure
Shows that had good viewership are unlikely to get canned. They're getting rid of the ones that didn't generate enough interest.
Raised by wolves is canceled. If they aren’t going to continue it, why host it when u can get a tax write off for it.
Because some people have respect for the arts
Tokyo Vice has been renewed, they're just trimming the dead weight
homie Chad was finished filming and was about to air that night before they completely threw it away. Batgirl was 90% finished and in testing. If it's on hbomax then its up in the air and its future is uncertain.
Anything renewed post merger is safe. Batgirl was made before that, it was never going to make money and is better as a tax write off.
you don't renew something and then cancel it, especially when you gave the green light to renew it.
>you don't renew something and then cancel it, especially when you gave the green light to renew it.
Netflix did that with The Society and I Am Not Okay With This. It's not unheard of.
GLOW also
no but it wouldn't make financial sense here. Batgirl does because it was an instant loser. the movies they removed from HBOmax to VOD sucked or had extremely niche appeal.
he's ditching the flotsam from the budget. none of the moves he made will upset the brand in the slightest
>no but it wouldn't make financial sense here
It does, what didn't make financial sense was greenlighting so much shit in the first place.
None of the streaming shows or movies are profitable. The millions spent on a season of Tokyo Vice for instance do not translate to subscribers. That's why Zaslav is cutting the fat, because that's what he was brought in to do and he sees that HBOmax is a house of cards and he's trying to do preemptive damage control before the stock tanks like Netflix's.
according to parrot analytics Tokyo Vice is the top 3% for viewed dramas, it performs really well. not every show will draw new subs but you have to maintain the subs you have which is what Tokyo Vice does.
you don't cancel a show you just renewed if people are actually watching it.
Are they removing Sopranos?
It's unlikely that they'll be removing much of the existing content. They're just cancelling some of the shows that are currently being made.
Good, I still want to rewatch Mad Men and Sopranos.
This, the existing, well loved shows from HBO almost certainly aren't going anywhere. Sopranos, GOT, The Wire, Sex and the City etc... What might be jeopardy are smaller, critically acclaimed series without the same level of clout as the HBO canon. Station Eleven for example.
And anything with ongoing production, although I would hope the big names like Succession or the new GOT series, are safe.
the entire service is being shut down, it will be discovery plus from now on
Why lie?
To be fair, American Pickle was shit
>they have like 60mil subs already
Except no they fricking don't you idiot LMFAO
You are right, they got more.
This, they have 76 million subscribers you frickin idiot OP
>https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/hbo-max-subscribers-grow-first-quarter-1235130203/
Frick there is going to be a new rise and fall of HBO Max video on youtube every week for the rest of the year.
Is it happening? Are we experiencing the death of streaming?
Not really. Netflix, Disney+, Prime, etc will just double down now as one of their competitors transitions.
No, you think people are gonna pay 200+ bucks for every channel instead of 3 streaming services that add up for a total of 50ish+ bucks?
>NOOOOO HOW DARW THEY KILL THIS APP, NOW HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW RICH israeliteS AM I SHOULD GIVE MY MONEY TO SO I CAN CONSOOM POZED PROPAGANDA
It means good shows won’t be made, whether you pay or not, moron. This is the television and film board.
>why would you guys care if the maker of the best quality shows stops making them?
You are literally a moron. And before you say
>they aren’t the best
Then who is? Netflix? Lmao
>mfw I can’t pay as much money consoom pozzed propaganda now
Go spend it on Reddit gold homosexual
Why the frick are you even here?
It's good that we at least have our trusted rarbg plus.
just canceled my hbo max sub. the writing is on the wall
its gonna keep all the HBO content
the HBO MAX troony content got the AXE
all the hbo troony content will be safe
As long as they don’t touch our precious Euphoria it’ll be alright. But I can already feel Zaslav menacingly staring at it
its just hbomax stuff thats under the knife not regular hbo
But euphoria is a hbomax original
No it is not
Euphoria is not only their most popular show but one of the most popular shows right now period. It's also popular among the best demographics including the 18-30 female dem, that is high income impulsive consoomers dumbasses. You can't get to those with the sopranos or the wire, but GoT and euphoria do the trick better than basically anything else
tbh if they keep friends thats all i'll watch and some old movies from the 90s and 00's
Some of the many projects cancelled by Warner Bros. since the merger with Discovery:
CNN+ and all of its programming just a matter of days after its launch.
Raised by Wolves (HBO Max)
Close Enough (HBO Max)
Gordita Chronicles (HBO Max)
Made for Love (HBO Max)
Chad (TBS, hours before its season premiere was set to air.)
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee (TBS)
Three Busy Debras (Adult Swim)
Joe Pera Talks with You (Adult Swim …Sigh.)
Naomi (The CW)
Legends of Tomorrow (The CW)
Snowpiercer (TNT, during production on their fourth season.)
The Wonder Twins film, shortly after the leads were announced.
Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, which was reportedly all but finished.
And now Batgirl, after the movie was already made.
Max is the only thing I use I get it from cable subscription.
I will only pirate if they make it go away.
Will HBO Max fold?
Safe:
>HBO originals like succession, barry, euphoria, etc
>Theatrical movies like the flash
>allegedly peacemaker s2
Uncertain:
>hbomax originals like Tokyo vice and hacks (might possibly move to regular HBO if not cancelled outright)
>future projects like the dc stuff Jj abrams was working on
>anything on tbs, tnt, cartoon network, adult swim
>james gunns future dc projects aside from peacemaker
>dc hbomax stuff like black canary
>doom patrol, titans, Stargirl, superman and Lois
Gone:
>arrowverse
>batgirl
>A bunch of other stuff
>Theatrical movies like the flash
>safe
reports say it cost over 300m to make, not the 200m they say. they literally can't afford to not release it.
Will Nathan’s the rehearsal get to be completed ?
it might just be a miniseries of six episodes so yeah. hes got another show at showtime he has to work on anyway
>Gone:
>arrowverse
>batgirl
I know those shows were canceled but will they still be on the new streaming service as legacy shows or something like that? If not, what's going to happen to all that? as bad as those shows were, those are hundreds of hours of content
batgirl is gone, it will never be released.
Flash is ending after season 9. It'll be on Netflix for 5 years after its last season. that's apart of the old CW streaming deal with Netflix. so most of the Arrowverse shows pre 2020 will be on Netflix for a few more years
Stargirl was renewed and will be airing I think sometime this month. Superman and Lois was renewed. this one is weird because apparently it's one of HBO's most watched shows in the Latin American market and as CW shows it's ratings are decent. both are inexpensive to make so they're probably safe for now.
Everything that’s not Black Adam, Shazam 2, Aquaman 2, The Flash, The Batman 2, Peacemaker S2 is getting scrapped. We’ll have to wait for news of the supposed flash reshoots to see where the continuity is going, I think Keaton is gone though and Affleck is back in. I also haven’t even seen news of reeves confirming the penguin series and arkham series were safe. I’m betting Zaslav is going to throw out bad robot for being a nothingburger.
Also Joker 2 and Blue Beetle I forgot to add to the list
hbo max is getting killed?
70% of development staff got fired today. Huge meeting tomorrow will probably shift hbo max into discovery+ and nuke the stock. If I knew how it worked Id short that stock hard as frick lmao
No they’re just dusting to get enough money for the upcoming earnings report
I hope not, hbomax is pretty good for old series and movies.
They’re not killing it. I think people are misunderstanding what’s going on here. They’re just doing less scripted content for the HBO max originals(let’s face it, they weren’t that good anyway besides Tokyo Vice). The classic HBO brand will still making making scripted shows and movies, as they always have been.
*will still be making
this, people are panicking over literally nothing
Cancelled a year ago. All the origional shit is woke garbage.
its still probably the best streaming service (aside from plex/fmovies etc) without their originals since they have all the Warner bros movies, turner classics, criterion collection, adult swim, etc.
Good. They don't have Deadwood in my country anyways
People keep saying that HBO's leadership saw that LGBT pandering doesn't sell subscriptions. But is it really this simple? What particularly woke content do they have?
SHAZAM AND AQUAMAN DELAYED AGAIN
HAJAHAHAHAHA WB
That's good news for shazam, they planned to release the movie at the same time as avatar 2
Pray for Warrior season 3.
This is the only service I actually like and they are killing it
Frick it I'm going back to all piracy all the time
>paying for this service because my dad likes the fact that he gets to watch so many kinos in spanish
>might not be able to do that anymore because of this shit
The Gordita Chronicles is the perfect example for a show getting axed.
It gets rave reviews from journos because it's a Latinx coming of age comedy about a fat black Dominican girl in Miami during the 80s. written by a fat black Dominican woman.
it hits all the SJW marks but no Hispanic person will watch it. in fact almost nobody watched it. every streaming service knows exactly what is watched and watch isn't. they know the shows viewers like, which ones they binge, and so on. now more than any other time it is easier to make shows your audience wants and it doesn't cost anything to discover it.
HBO is gutting the shows critics love but literally nobody watches and we're never good ideas in the first place.
They're just killing the shitty "Max Originals". None of them were good besides Tokyo Vice.
Hopefully they split into two services, the goyslop reality TV network and the kino channel with adult swim and old HBO and TCM
i will never forgive these frickers for what they did to joe pera
They are folding it into Disco+ simply so they can cancel everyone who is getting free HBO Max
