In the books he wants Sansa to be his daughter (who he molests occasionally) and is angling to make her queen of the north. The show is moronic so he just gets her raped instead which is not something you normally do to your waifu.

is he planning on raping Sansa after he wins the game of thrones? he has major Catelyn oneitis but it's not made clear whether he abandons that or not
and his infatuation with Sansa suggest not
though like you posted she may just be a means to a grand end

Idk about "raping", but he's 100% grooming her. He half sees her as the daughter he could've had with Catelyn, and half as a version of Catelyn he can finally frick. When he dies in the books, it will 100% be as a result of his soft spot towards her

I recently re-read the whole series and I was intrigued by the amount of importance given to Marwin the Mage.

Zero. GRRM is a hack that relies on muh subversions as a crutch to make people think he's a good writer. He still writes in nothing but cliches and isn't intelligent enough to take things to their logical conclusions so the "bad" guys won't win even though quite literally there is nothing short of deus ex machina to ensure they won't, which GRRM himself even recognizes, which is also why he isn't working on the series anymore and hopes to just die and have it remembered as an unfinished magnum opus whose creator was tragically taken before he could finish writing what would surely be the greatest ending of all time.
