I think having a character suffer is a cheap and lazy writer copout to make the watcher care about a character.
For example, Arcane, Edgerunners, this autistic garbage (For real, reading Sonic the hedgehog comics? Are you 10?)
Edgerunners was a good show and you're just a pussy who fears consequences if you think it was using the misfortune of its characters cheaply. My only gripe is David basically seeing his exact cause of death twice.
Edgerunners is mediocre.
Damn, guess I'll change my opinion now.
Edgerunners was kino
It’s cheap when it’s done cheaply. Tragedy is good for stories when it’s not overdone and can serve as a device to snap the readers back into reality and have them fully grasp the seriousness of the situation. Otherwise, it’s boring.
You can't just write off a whole set of emotions in fiction as "cheapness." Like everything, execution is what matters as to whether it's cheap or earned. If you don't want to feel negative emotions from fiction or witness a character having hardships, you're just immature and don't have a grip on your own shallow motivations for why you'd avoid such basic feelings.
It's pretty fricking cheap with Whisper, though. Her murdered friends were a bunch of stock characters we never got to really know anything about, and her tragic past never affects the plot the way Shadow's or Knuckles' backstories do. Somebody just mentions her team and she cries, and that's all.
Granted.
Her tangle arc was fine
Basically, yeah. It's just an excuse to make people feel bad for the "strong" girl. It only manifests in her being untrusting, which is always played as being correct because she never second guesses innocent people.
She literally almost shit eggman in the head and was stopped by Cream of all people
(Eggman did nothing wrong)
Yeah, which was just melodrama and her crying. It doesn't actually change how stories play out.
Can’t say she’s strong if she’s always crying all the time. Just makes her look like a lame.
Reddit,go back
>I think having a character suffer is a cheap and lazy writer copout
The opposite side of this is writers that never, ever challenge their characters. Which is fricking boring. There's a balance to this, to be sure. But you shouldn't be afraid to hurt your characters in service to the narrative.
>I think thing is bad
>BUT DID YOU EVER THINK ABOUT HOW THE OPPOSITE EXTREME IS ALSO BAD
Didn't they confirm that owl guy was gay? They sure like to hint at characters being homosexual on twitter instead of in the stories where it would actually have impact.
Nite and Don are Evan's pet gays but they're side characters that aren't shoved down your throat like Tangle and Whisper
>For real, reading Sonic the hedgehog comics? Are you 10?
You opened the thread.
Merry Christmas whisper
When my dick goes in
It just hit me yesterday that her name is Whisper, because she uses Wisps, not because she whispers.
I love this lesbian, I'll miss her when IDW goes bankrupt.
Wasn't this obvious? I like how iwd incorporated colours and lost world into the story
She genuinely has some great expressions in general
sauce?
Sonic IWD comic chapter 24
Years ago I saw a Yardley art from the Archie years where his facial expressions were toned down from the original lines, it was Sonic showing some grief. Does IDW allow lot more expression to come through? Cause she is really expressive here, who was the artist?
Post blog anon niceart.
Frick the prudes they are fictional characters who go on action adventures they all act like they are 25 years old. Who cares if you draw some porn of them people are whack.
Amy’s supposed to be 12 yet she lives alone in her own apartment in SA1/Battle and some cabin in bumfrick nowhere everywhere else.
Sonic fans will use this excuse to pretend Amy is an adult then act like their immersion is ruined by a 14 year old middle schooler in an anime living alone in an apartment.
This is why moderBlack folk are the worst, ruined the franchise, and 100% deserve Frontiers' retcons. You take a completely unrealistic scenario like a cartoon hedgehog in a world based on Earth and it's charming because of how ridiculous it is and doesn't really need an explanation, it just works, then moderngays and their endless lack of creativity enter the scene and pick apart every little detail and demand that each aspect of it gets a detailed report on how specifically it all has to make sense in some sort of realistic terms. People like modern sonicgays are why live action capeshit ditches the unique costumes seen on their comics counterparts, because there was never any real reason for them to look like that aside from it was just fun and it worked because that aspect of the worldbuilding didn't need to make real sense. It would be moronic to wish violence on moderngays, but as said earlier, they deserve the "canon lore" changes that constantly rock the franchise, 2D Sonic bores me to tears but at least classicgays actually prioritize gameplay in their favorite video game series rather than obsessing over only the story.
What retcons did frontiers have?
Chao are actually regressed aliens who became moronic infants from using the Chaos Emeralds that they found on Mobius and were hunted to near-extinction by the embodiment of heat death of the universe.
That sounds perfectly right though
Do you not understand what "retcon" means or something?
>chao are moron aliens
I absolutely fricking hate this. It's cute if they're like newborn Chaos. If they're infantized grown up aliens that's fricking weird and creepy.
Yeah and also they used to wear these charm accessories which are what the koco are, and those charms for no real reason at all have their owners' memories imprinted on them and think that they are the people who owned them. The story takes itself super seriously yet makes peak moron decisions like that.
I hate what Ian is doing to Sonic now. What the frick is this melodrama mire he is dropping these action heroes into? This isn't shounen anymore, this is tumblr comic misery porn.
As long as whisper suffers it's ok
It's probably him trying to appeal to too many types of people at once. The people who wamt serious Sonic stories, the people who want lower stakes stories, the people who want all the characters to show up, the people who ask why so and so didn't show up for such and such arc when they would have good reason to, the girl power agenda, the Archie fans with his nuFF and nuSally the sheep, new Sonic comic fans, Sega themselves with all the restrictions placed on how stories can be told and which characters need to be made less interesting, as well as more demographics and agendas that probably factor into things. I guess the point is after losing Archie again and being under Sega's watchful eye, he was burnt out and didn't have a strong enough vision for what the series should be so now it's an anthology of half baked ideas. At least the classic stuff has been consistently decent.
>Nusally the sheep
Who?
Lanolin.
>smiling
>partially closed eyes
N-nice DREEMWERKZ Tails!
Dreamworks bought out Sega years ago, the evidence is CLEAR!!!
Lanolin was a background character that people liked so she got lines. She's useless and nothing like Sally
Also does she have regular feet or hooves? It's very confusing
She’s a background character that the writer likes
>She's useless
This
>and nothing like Sally
Wrong
Lanolin doesn’t even feel like Sally. She feels like a watered down version of Geoffrey St John. I say watered down because she hasn’t assaulted minors.
Sally consented to Geoffrey taming her strange
There's still time.
>she hasn’t assaulted minors
She thinks Duo is one but his dick is really 35
>why so and so didn't show up for such and such arc
I hate this the most.
So much time is wasted explaining absolutely nothing.
Who should I blame? Ian or some Japanese guy?
There's not enough good left in Sega to not just flatly blame all of them.
Most likely Sonic Team, but Ian is to blame for every other sentence being a reference to something.
The Chao are supposed to be evolved "descendants" of the Ancients and when a Chao mutated into Chaos, he ended becoming some weird amalgamation of his ancestors because of his separate forms.
You'd think Ian would learn after making Charmy moronic. He keeps doing weird shit like this and the incest undertones with Ice Man and Reboot Nicole.
In defense of the iceman thing, apparently the "sibling" relationship between Light's bots is a western invention. Roll even might have romantic feelings towards Rock if Powered Up's evil version is canon.
Yeah, that's what I'm getting at. He makes weird lore calls that just complicate shit. Rock, Roll and Blues are siblings, but the MM1 bots aren't, but the MM2/3 bots are? It's a mess. Either don't engage or pick a lane. Same deal with writing Reboot Nicole as "gaining sentience from copying Sally" and growing up alongside her, only to turn around and say they're a couple.
The dude is terrible at reading social cues when things aren't literal.
Think he might be autistic.
Wow, you think?
Evan's confirmed on the spectrum and she's better at this stuff than he is. The problem is getting good, socially capable writers on a low paying gig with an obnoxious fan base.
>that they found on Mobius
They already owned the emeralds, didn't they? But they became moronic babies for no reason from being around the master emerald or something. God that game is so fricking stupid.
Emeralds came from space and like anon said, chao are mutated devolved Chaos beings that were a super advanced alien race. It was basically just lore for the sake of lore and not because it added anything meaningful to the overall worldbuilding. At least the Titans and End were cool.
All eraBlack folk deserve the rope
>This is why moderBlack folk are the worst
Are we talking SA1 to Unleashed moderngays? Or Colors onwards, aka "The PonGraff Generation"?
>The PonGraff Generation
???
Pontac and Graff who wrote/localized every game main game from Colors to TSR. They turned everything into a joke.
Times were better then...
You're moronic
Way more dude. There's some very nice expressions. What I posted is the actual page not fanart
They did the same with Vanilla's original facial expression before they changed to the official one.
They ruined it
In the original, Vanilla facial expression were too lewd to show instead of an innocent charming mom. so I kinda can understand why they're changed that even tho I like the original way better imo.
>too lewd
Says you.
They redrew it because her face was sarcastic and snarky, not because it’s sultry you desperate projecting virgins. Vanilla’s thing is being the sweet kind mom, having her do the sassy dreamworks eyebrow doesn’t fit that
That is NOT any Dreamworks smile I've ever seen. And it isn't any you've ever seen either. Acting like you don't see a sexy smoldering glance when it's right in front of you is a hell of a lot more pathetic than just admitting to the obvious reason they redid it.
Black person it’s THE dreamworks smile. Complete with the lidded eyes, crooked eyebrows and looking at the viewer while you say something to the viewer.
You have such a tiny dyfunctile dick that it forces you to desperately project porn onto the most censored sterilesanitised children’s media imaginable because you can’t get off to anything you didn’t consoom as a 4 year old
You may be severely visually impaired if you think Shrek is doing the same expression here.
It’s the same moron. I described every way it’s the same, crooked euebrow, lidded eyes, looking at viewer from the side. It’s the same thing Superman did at the end of every silver age comic when he waggled his eyebrow at the viewer.
you’re incapable of describing any way it’s different other than you can’t accept you’re desperately trying to brainwash yourself into jacking it to pozzed bland sterile nothing
>you’re incapable of describing any way it’s different
Not a one of those is resting their head in their hand. She isn't baring both rows of pearly whites in a smug fricking grin. She's just smiling and talking. She isn't contorting her entire face with her brows. It's just a slight raised brow. You think I didn't notice you slipped in some relatively normal faces in your collage, because "the dreamworks face," the real one that you are trying to degrade into "just a smile with a raised brow" is much more dramatic. Like the first shrek you posted, and then backtracked on. Last (You), because I'm sure you've got a whole bunch more seethe to try and unload on me.
She’s talking with an open mouth because she’s saying something to the viewer, again, exavtly what Superman always did. It’s a famous cliche to look at the viewer and sarcastically comment on the situation
I’m glad you made it clear now you have literally no counterargument to what I just proved other than pathetic cope. It’s sad seeing sonic manbabies like yourselves too stupid and immature to self-reflect
The redrawn version is cuter and more like Vanilla anyway.
>Dreamworks smile
>Exactly what Superman always did
Bit your own tail. It's almost like it's a perfectly normal expression used throughout mankind's history with multiple variations.
Imagine spending your Christmas ranting about a face living in your head.
>I-I'm not mad, you're the mad ones!
Go drink some eggnog and relax
>It's almost like it's a perfectly normal expression used throughout mankind's history with multiple variations
It’s used “throughout mankind’s” fiction to wink at the viewer over a crazy situation
You’re a boilding, malding, most likely obese adult-baby now seething because it was clearly shown to you once again that your franchise marketed at 3-5 year olds isn’t well-written, horny, interesting or adult as Sonicbabies need to tell themselves at night to cope
You’re ranting again be ause just like al Sonicbabies, you’re not strong enough to grow up
>The more buzzwords I used the more right I'll be!
>no crooked eyebrows
>not looking at the viewer
Nice seething cope once again, Sonic manbabies
Are those required? OOPS! Vanilla wasn't looking at the viewer! Debunked your own claim just like that.
>Vanilla wasn't looking at the viewer
She literally is though, and speaking to them too. Are you…moronic?
Jesus Christ I knew you Sonicgays were blubbering adult children but this is pathetic
See:
It's even more obvious when her eyes are wide.
She is blatantly looking forward. Either at Vector or someone next to him. Dreamworks claim... deboonked.
Vector is to her right, you can see him there on the fricking panel. She’s looking forwards at the viewer
Sonicgays are either the stupidest or the most pathetic manbaby-fanbase on the planet if their cope is this desperate
That or maybe your entire argument just wasn't very good, and you're kind of sad, raging in a thread because multiple people contested your claim.
Because you’re A. Too stupid to tell the directions Right apart from Forwards,
or B. You’re too pathetic to accept when you’re clearly proven wrong and that turned you into an incoherent ninny?
Noone’s to blame but yourself if you can’t tell Vector’s on her right and she’s looking forwards at the viewer. Put simply: you can’t accept the obvious because you’re a manbaby. No bad argument can turn you as moronic as you already are.
All I hear is REEEEEEEEE
People who self insert as a blue mickey mouse from a literal nursery school show were moronic from birth. You wouldn’t talk to a 40 year old who thinks he’s literally Thomas the Tank Engine and expect them to not be braindamaged
Please tell me you are trolling
>Zoomer learned a new word and starts using it without understanding the actual meaning
I can't believe they've been doing the Dreamworks face since ye olden days, is this evidence of an ancient hierarchy?
More or less.
It's also why she was allowed to be very serious and "scary", but they removed her eyelid twitching. She's calm and collected, no matter what. Sarcasm doesn't fit her personality.
>This piece I asked for in the original thread about it
God bless the drawanon that did that.
Wtf why was she so horny
Wait but in the scans version they use that one
Altered last minute in print.
Terrible.
The new art is better. It actually fits what she's saying and her personality.
Fricking coomers, I swear.
I feel sorry for poor Vanilla. she's been forever branded as the wholesome and pure mom with no sexual desires just because she's had a child? that's total bullshit. She's a mature rabbit for God sake, she should have a higher sex drive than any other character.
But that's fine, I guess I'll just go back to cooming over her 6 year old daughter then.
Agree. And btw, the japanese dub of Sonic X they give the japanese voice actress a milf voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et31zAihEPo
I mean, coming back down to the reality of matters, she doesn't have a sex drive not because she's a mom, but because it's a children's comic. But that simple fact is making them redraw panels just because her eyes (from a POV of someone who might be LOOKING for it) were a bit too sultry, and that just kind of fricking sucks.
It's understandable. Sonicgays made their porn addiction too obvious over the decades and now Sega has caught on to what might be perceived as pandering to degenerates.
Anon... Rouge, at introduction, had jiggle physics and a textured labia. Who is really to blame for horny fans here?
>A textured labia
No she didn't
You can make out something on her spandex.
You want the real, blackpilled, unfiltered answer? The fault lies entirely with tendies. The Sonic fanbase was doing just fine, then all the worst shit about the fandom cropped up only after SA2B hit gamecube. All the worst degenerates that gooned to pokeshit and yoshi feet saw actually kino anthro designs on a nintendo console for the first time in their miserable lives and were exposed to a cartoon game that had actual stakes in its story and from that point on, the Sonic fanbase faced irreversible damage and achieved the worst reputation of any video game fanbase, maybe any entertainment media fanbase, ever. You can cope, you can argue, you can wipe this post from your memory and act like you never saw it, but you all know this is true if you hadn't already. Tendies ruined the Sonic fanbase and I will die fighting on this hill to preserve this fact.
>she's been forever branded as the wholesome and pure mom with no sexual desires
Have you seen the way ABT draws her?
Remember, rabbits don't go into heat, they're ready to go anytime and anywhere, and can even be impregnated again while already pregnant.
Vanilla isn't so vanilla after all.
It's just one autismo shitposting really. He's trying way too hard to be believable though like so
Nah mate you’re also an autismo moron for getting so butthurt from a “shitposter” you post essays in denial that it’s a dreamworks smile
>Cinemaphile is one person
Aaaaand suddenly I am thinking about Judy Hopps...Well, I guess being ready to go at all times means the urge isn't as insane as being in heat.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_(IDW_Publishing) check the artist section I guess. These are the people who draw it
I was wondering if someone could tell by the art style alone.
Interesting change, lol.
I never liked Sonic really, because you can never relate to him. He's always too cool for school, never can show any emotions, always a egofilled smhuck. Don't like it.
I see.
>He's always too cool for school, never can show any emotions, always a egofilled smhuck.
People that say this don't actually understand Sonic's character.
The pic you're thinking of is because Sega doesn't like Sonic getting too upset. It's out of character for him.
Sonic’s supposed to be this calm, cool and collected guy who likes to chill and nap most of the time. The guy isn’t supposed to be all loud and proud, but reserved and confident in himself and his abilities.
Basically, which is why it's weird if he sobs.
I think he should be allowed to sob if he’s at his absolute limit. Example, Mobius 25 Years later when he loses his kids. Another Example, let’s say that Robotnik’s Egg Grapes in Archie were successful.
Nah. Makes him look like a b***h. Some people cope differently.
This, if Sonic lost his kids or watched everyone be drained dry by the Egg Grapes he'd just say "Big oof".
I feel like there has to be a middle ground between "acts like a gigantic pussy" and "sarcastic, unfeeling sociopath."
You're the one who keeps insisting that showing any form of negative emotion = being a gigantic troony pussy.
>Sobbing like a b***h = "any negative emotion."
Remember to take your estrogen pills.
There's none. This is how Sonic would add canonically
>>Does IDW allow lot more expression to come through?
Yes and no. They still have to tone done Sonic’s expressions but every other character is fair game. Except for Vanilla now it would seem. In one recent issue they had to tone down her facial expression for being too seductive.
>Except for Vanilla now it would seem. In one recent issue they had to tone down her facial expression for being too seductive.
which scene?
>It just hit me yesterday that her name is Whisper, because she uses Wisps, not because she whispers.
Why is Tangle named Tangle?
I generally hate these punny names.
Like when the person is born you dont know how the frick they were grow up, what they will do to make them special, to name them after it. Its weird.
They have actual names but most go by their nicknames. Amy goes by her real name while Tails, whose real name is Miles Prower, goes by his nickname.
>They have actual names
You have no proof of this except in the very few instances it's actually happened
But Miles Prower, his real name, is a pun on miles per hour.
That's only known to apply to Tails and Amy
Mate those are their nicknames lmao. Also I'm pretty sure mobians pick their own name
>Also I'm pretty sure mobians pick their own name
No? They’re named by their parents like everybody else.
Shadow is probably the only one whose name actually is just a noun.
His full name would probably be Shadow Robotnik.
Well, in Japanese all the "Name the Animal" characters are written in Engrish. But when they are called by theirs species, it is in Japanese.
For example: "Sonikku Za Hejjihoggu" is a "harinezumi"
Which means, "Hedgehog" is a surname and "The" is a weird middle name 90% of the animal population shares.
>"The" is a weird middle name 90% of the animal population shares.
Rather, it is something similar to a toponymic surname. But rather than saying where they come from, it says what they are.
> Like when the person is born you dont know how the frick they were grow up, what they will do to make them special, to name them after it. Its weird.
Tangle might just be a name she made for herself, like how Sonic made his name. Who knows?
But yeah, I get this. Not Sonic related but I remember now that The Warriors Cats books struggled with this problem a lot, lol.
In the manga, Kid Sonic or “Nicky” was named by his dad after the guy who saved his life. Nicky being a nickname based on Sonic, as in SoNIC. Then it turns out that the guy who saved him was Nicky’s future self AKA Game Sonic. Dude figured out how to use his speed to travel through time and has been traveling into his past to steer his younger self onto the path of becoming him. In fact, had he not saved his dad, then he wouldn’t have been born because when Sonic’s dad landed his plane, it was near where his future wife AKA Sonic’s mother lived. Dude created himself.
By the way, Sonic was involved in some huge event in Hedgehog Town, the main setting of the manga, that happened 50 YEARS AGO. Sound familiar?
Now I’m less enthusiastic about giving the manga a look because now it sounds even more moronic than Archie and not in a good way
They gave up on writing her dialogue as if she's soft spoken pretty fast. Now they write her like everyone else but with a dotted line bubble.
Whisper looks like she's about to turn into a werewolf. Also, Teils in the background looks like he saw some shit.
Everyone in that arc saw some shit because it was forced grimdark
Don't worry, he's just having a flashback
supposedly
A human CAN'T fit inside a mobian, STOP trying.
Whisper is so hot and I loved drawing her but they had to make her canonically 16 all while people around me act as if they weren't thirsty for her too prior to the news
How is she 16? Also she fricks tangle, dude
Any drawings without her shoes?
degenerate
I thought ages weren't canon anymore. Also it's hilarious that places like twitter act like they can't get thirsty for the underage Sonic characters, despite nobody having a problem with that before.
I used to draw most of the characters except for the specifically written as kids ones ( Tails, Cream, Charmy and Marine) and that was kind of the rule, but some artists got loud about how "problematic" it was and you're now legally allowed to only draw Rouge, Wave and Vanilla, doing Rouge gets boring and I don't care about the other two, it's frustrating because 1/3 of the people don't care, 1/3 of the people don't know about this unwritten rule and 1/3 will try to make your life hell
I'm sorry to hear that, anon. I've been gooning to Sonic characters since I was a teenager, and I've seen no issues with it. They're animals, age is just an arbitrary number. They don't act like teenagers at all, and don't even look it.
They'll definitely have human DNA in them after I'm done with them.
>they're just drawings
Drawings of what?
By this rule you're admitting it's ok to fap to the 2000 years old dragon who looks loke a e-girl because she is, indeed, not a minor
You sure are obsessed with finding ways to try and justify your child porn addiction.
Silver is a rookie.
>Silver is a rookie.
Silver comes from the fricking apocalypse. He was born and raised in war.
He's a rookie compared to Lanolin who is more disciplined and a natural leader. Fighting longer than someone else doesn't automatically make you more experienced than them.
>dicksucking Lanolin this much
She was thrown the role by israeliteel who was thrown the role by Amy
Not post-06 Silver
>Silver is a rookie.
Silver was a commander and fighter in the resistance for six months. He founded both the resistance with Knuckles and the restoration with Amy. He fought through a hellscape apocalypse in the bad future and defeated his own Eggman in the good future. Who the frick is Lanolin to talk down to him?
Yeah really this pissed me off even though we joke about Silver, He's still a badass and one of the top tiers in their world bro literally saved the world multiple times. Lanolin was a pencil pusher who was scared of everything in her early cameos, joined the resistance after the war.
She literally has the least amount of time and experience even if we assume the forces story line was Silvers only canon battle experience. Lanolin calling rank on him and whisper just pissed fans off.
I remember talking with some friends about how silver would destroy the diamond cutters in less than 10 secs. The only one with a remote chance is whisper and she'd still get wrecked
The problem isn't that Silver is subordinate to Lanolin. It's how they frame it. Lanolin's proper intro is fricking terrible and fails to convey any of the necessary info for what they're trying to do with her. It doesn't explain that she's a ridiculous workaholic, it only passively suggests she's much more proactive than others, it does a poor job conveying that she's juggling being high strung/stressed and keeping it together, it doesn't convey that she's constantly tired very well, it doesn't do a good job conveying that she's an authority on tactics and planning.
If her intro conveyed even some of this well or if the arc where Silver joins the Diamond Cutters did a good job showing that despite being newer to this, Lanolin has a lot to teach Silver about teamwork and logical thinking, nobody would care. We KNOW Silver is hasty and rash. If the comic properly framed this as "I want to make a difference and I need to learn how to keep a cool head," it would actually be interesting.
IDW's problems are a cascade of execution slipups like this that Archie tended to catch before publication. IDW's editors are asleep at the wheel and Ian and Evan don't know how to edit their own work in a timely fashion. Best example of this is Ian chalking problems up to constant Sega requests while Danny says he didn't get a single note on Scrapnik.
>It's how they frame it. Lanolin's proper intro is fricking terrible and fails to convey any of the necessary info for what they're trying to do with her.
Agreed with all this.
>It's that the writers don't take the necessary steps to justify and work off of these things.
That's probably what I meant, I felt I wasn't conveying my idea properly as I was writing it. Yeah, the IDW characters are like if all we knew about Tails as his introduction was him telling Sonic that he's so smart he made a television out of popsicle sticks or whatever that line in Colors was.
That's actually a good criticism of how Colors handled character writing in general.
Thing is, most characters in Sonic are introduced with no justification, but usually the story is crafted in a way that makes it feel natural. We never got some big intro to Tails. He popped up on the title screen and started tagging along behind Sonic, and then we see him fly a plane. We don't get a backstory dump on Knuckles: he suckerpunches Sonic, he keeps setting up traps, he realizes he was duped, he helps you. Amy hugs Sonic, gets kidnapped, is saved.
These guys were re-introduced in a game originally designed as an RPG and all they got were VERY basic intros that tell the player just enough to go "Okay, yeah!"
The solution for a simple character's believability is never "write more words," it's "frame them better." Readers are primed to accept the author's word. If they aren't believing basic premises, you're conveying info incorrectly.
You get more info on them in the manuals. Tails’ backstory was in the Sonic 2 manual. Thing is, localization tend to change them to match up with whatever the US cartoons of the UK comic were doing with the setting. So you’d only get the real story for the first time in the flashback from Adventure. Even then, it’s just Tails following him and doesn’t mention him getting bullied. You’d see THAT in X.
True but even people who played the games without bothering with the manuals liked the characters just fine. I don't like classic Sonic very much but it made people fans of the characters seemingly effortlessly.
Lol, yeah really that's pretty telling of either Ian is lying or isn't trusted and Danny just is better at editing his own work or they know he can do his own stuff. I'm starting to believe the mandates aren't that bad it's just they want to do some of the stuff the mandates say they can't. They pull a rebecca sugar and just toss stuff to them knowing it's against the rules then are surprised when they have to rush to fix it and make the plot incoherent.
Also you are exactly right we meme on silver and we've accepted silver's failings before but in this arc it was just so over the top. It's also just feels like another example of some writers just hating silver he's like the marcy wu of sonic. Really though they did the typical writing choice of humilating characters to make their oc look better but in the end it made her look more like a c**t. I agree that really potential exist not much though because god she's boring and just a thinly veiled oc for ABT to coom too. Even her plot really is unnecessary she's leader of a team of mid fighters and basically a replacement of soldier knuckles/amy as the leads of the resistance.
Yep really goes to show how slept on our boy is, really I get the jokes and hate from some but silver deserves better. I meme on him to but he's definitely not the worst sonic character and really could and has lended himself to some of the best sonic plot points and dynamics.
Weird they act as if he's a kid when he should be older or at least way more harden than lanolin who literally joined the resistance after the war after the first issue actually. She is a bigger rookie than even silver is.
Yeah see this would work way better, he has a time limit and one mistake cost the world. It'd be a interesting way of portraying him other than naive and childish..
>the typical writing choice of humilating characters to make their oc look better
In this specific instance not really, she sucker punches Silver and still comes off as a c**t but as a reader we know Silver and Whisper are in the right in this situation. It's not like one-upped him undeservingly in some situation he should have been able to handle. He was just too overt in his interrogation tactics and got chewed out by the boss for acting without presentable evidence.
>she's boring and just a thinly veiled oc for ABT to coom too
She is boring but to be fair it isn't like she was built from the ground up to specifically be a main character, she basically got in due to popularity.
>way more harden than lanolin
It's funny just how much more serious Silver is the farther back you go in his history. It makes sense for him to mellow out after Rivals since he's been around friends for a while but at the same time they did just come out of a war, which you could handwave off like with most Sonic games plots but the comic is so self serious that you're forced to have to take Forces' events into consideration so he probably ought to not be as UwU softboi as he has been.
I meant it more in how she still got to talk down to silver and another oc when this is like her 5th offical issue she was in. It's a bit ridiculous but yeah it's more of just the jumping to the scene and weirdness surrounding it. also had that typical cringe ness of old edge sonic fan comics. Go from jokey ton to serious fights/argument and melodrama.
Got in for popularity he says I keked so hard, not even a diss at you bro but come on she was forced into every background scene. That's ABT being one of the lead artist not fan love, it's like when companies for a meme. He made a oc posted her everywhere tumblr, here twitter deviantart etc. He then gives her tons of fanart and cameos and lil stories of course people will say ok who is that girl. My friend thought that one panel of her getting zoom focused over the main cast during belle's intro arc was her being set up as a mole.
Silver is just that guy from 30 rock where he's white knuckling it through his depression and trauma. That'd be a fun silver arc but as you said he's just now a softboi, literally made for girls to jill too and think of him as a seme or femdommed. Someone said it in the actual issue where he gets kicked out, they might as well pull a charmy just age him down younger than the others.
Yeah it's weird how suddenly current year writers on mass forgot how to writer characters just strawmen and the so cool but tragic mc
True we all complain about edge but sometimes edge beats out the moralhomosexualry and bland same old same old. I feel nine is representational of all the villian tails and harden tails fan comics and art. Most people want tails to be less of a inconsistent sidekick. So they love nines snark and confidence and being able to solo. It's always good to have a character be able to do things on their own and break away from the norm a bit at times. I think the OCs could be great it's why I said whisper has potential if they got her away from tangle
>Go from jokey ton to serious fights/argument and melodrama.
I don't even know what to call this trope. I know what you mean and I'm guilty of it in my own stuff sometimes but yeah it's usually pretty amateur.
>she was forced into every background scene.
You can argue it was "forced popularity" and some nepotism but she was definitely the most popular background character not just due to popping up the most often and having a sense of development but because her design was legitimately good which is as Sonic as it gets.
>My friend thought that one panel of her getting zoom focused over the main cast during belle's intro arc was her being set up as a mole.
Lot of people thought she got hypnotized by Starline but no it was just an ominous shot for no reason. Funny that after seeing the reference page for her and that short comic ABT drew that facial expression is totally in character for her.
>writers on mass forgot how to writer characters just strawmen
It's probably lack of real life hardship to draw from and/or laziness.
>whisper has potential if they got her away from tangle
Always felt like they mostly only paired them because they were the first two big IDW OCs. But yeah, there's so much focus on teamwork in general that characters are lacking solo moments to shine.
>The ocs are somehow less characters than the game characters with actual restricts put on how they can be written.
I'm guessing it's so they feel like the game characters or something.
I now want to see your stuff anon, also eh we all are also theirs a way to do it and make it work. Like things like the early Mcu and devil may cry, but most cases the best bet is not to have them be right after the other or jokes not at the expense of the characters.
I mean tons of great designs in the comic actually like all the ref designs and just fawned over background characters. I will accept it but I won't let us forget it was nepotism less we let ABT really believe his cope that people actually like her more than as coombait and forced hype.
So she's just autistic moronic lol, but yeah happy to hear that but yeah probably again just like what he did he pushed her as focal as he could so people would say hey who's that. I remember thinking early on oh is she a sonic character I forgot about?
That is true, most writers now are silver spoon kids and people that got in because of nepotism or having the right opinions and kissed the right asses. It's also just people hiring the cheapest person as well so many people just get grabbed off twitter or tumblr with like no lead writer or artist experience it's weird.
Yeah I feel it effects whisper more than tangle tangle is just a random autist but whisper actually has a backstory and skills that make her feel unique compared to the rest of the cast. Then tangle is just a lol random sonic simp/wannabe. Really as you said they probably were just paired as the ocs or were made to be gay together but it's sad because tangle is such a non character and at least whisper has something no one else has being a sharpshooter and using wispons in multiclassing in it. And of course the war and backstory but they basically through that out for just her being tangle's crying lesbian gf.
Ha make them just like the game characters but they cry and have weird boring gay moments, this will make people love them for sure kek. I feel it's more the lack of ability
>your stuff
Nothing remarkable yet but thanks, hopefully someday I'll have something more worthwhile.
>more than
I think part of it was just whatever potential people saw in their imagined version of her character but of course the design was the biggest draw. "Wouldn't it be cool if the character with this design that we keep seeing had [headcanon] personality and experiences?" sort of thing. Like when you see Sonic and wonder what it would be like if he had consistently good games.
>autistic moronic
Actually kind of just the same but the version we have had a layer removed; she's still b***hy but carries herself in a fake happy kind of way instead of letting all her baggage hang out like in IDW, almost like Naomi if you've read snootgame.
>he pushed her
I guess I have to agree, it's just I don't see it as a negative since I liked the design and having something happen in the background was just a neat addition.
>writers now
Looking forward to seeing how this bad writing arc comes to a head in the television and film industries because AAA stories are being written more sloppily than ever.
>whisper has something no one else has
The non-powered character who can hold their own in a setting full of super beings is always neat for being the odd one out, it would have been cool to see her being the tactical fighter out of necessity. As tired as the comparison is, kind of the same appeal as Batman.
>I feel it's more the lack of ability
Might be. Even though it was because he was given an already fully fleshed out setting, Flynn did great with Archie so I wanted to believe the way things currently are was deliberate.
Well keep at it anon, it's just a matter of time and practice.
Heh true, oh the dream of at least 3 good not even peak sonic games in a row. Really though yeah I get it still dislike her and she's still mostly fapbait but I understand why people were interested but seems most people hate her now.
I haven't but sounds interesting also where does all this lanolin lore even come from? I hate ocs for this exact reason, "oh they are so much deeper than you think just wait guys I swear". But yeah if it's true hopefully they find a way to mix it into her actual character so she isn't just a bag of crap with double Ds.
I can accept that I just hate this oc business mostly because they all suck except the guys actually lol, they are all weirdly multifaceted and actually strong.
Oh you have no idea my bro bought me spider man 2 I'm playing it now because I have it and god It's so lame. Like the only good part is the gameplay and even that isn't that great. But yeah games have been so mid and bad, I wanted a ps5 forever once I had the money to get it I said hell no then someone got me one like a year or 2 ago hadn't even started it up til spider man 2 that's how little I was interested in most AAA games. Really I've just been focusing on my art which is actually good I guess but I miss having a lot media I could enjoy wholeheartedly.
Yep but sadly whisper is just another jobber now, she really just exist to cry and shoot a couple rounds. It sucks as you said she had that whole non powered thing going for her and she had silver hype for being a goat in the war but nope. Whisper the Wolf a assassin who kills and goes all out and can solo missions who's that this is Mumbles the b***h who cries all day long lol.
I'd like to believe it as well but I'm so tired of hoping because it just keeps getting worse anon.
>time and practice
True, and thanks.
>seems most people hate her now.
Turns out less was more.
>where
Don't remember the posts itt, but one is her ref sheet and the other you can find if you ctrl+f "twitter." Everything I said about her was mostly interpretation but it goes to show just how much was characterized in just her response to Tangle.
>oh they are so much deeper than you think just wait guys I swear
To be fair anyone defending a character is like this lol.
>hopefully
Too late I think, her character is already solidified as annoying but I guess they could always turn it around someday.
>Really I've just been focusing on my art which is actually good I guess but I miss having a lot media I could enjoy wholeheartedly.
Kek yeah modern AAA games have yet to grab me too. Godspeed on your art, if media sucks now then it's up to you to make the stuff you want to see.
>Mumbles the b***h who cries all day long lol.
Kek, too true. Whisper peaked at angry Whisper but that one rarely shows.
>tired of hoping
I more or less gave up hope when I stopped paying to read IDW, I just threw that in there so the post wasn't a total downer. Nowadays a media has to prove it's actually good before I get hype for it, learned that between LW and Forces.
No problem bro we all need support and know we can do it with time
Usually it is trying to force a meme or fad makes it cringe or kills it. Like how people tend to fall for side characters the moment the writers try to react to it they ruin it. Like neo and penny from rwby they brought them back just to slowly ruin and kill them.
Hmm interesting, I'll check it out still doesn't count because no canon it must be canon for me to not hate the canon version.
I mean after a certain point if you don't stop then you are either dumb or obsessive like me and whisper. I think she has potential but I know she's ass and deserves the title of crying lesbian and the memes. A fool can't see things for what they are it's why modern stuff sucks people keep being forgiving and refusing to be more brutally honest or at least honest. Which allows writing and art and over all ethics to get worse in things like you were saying about AAA stuff.
Ha thanks bro, I'm gonna be posting some stuff in the cotc thread and hilda thread probably later today or tommorow. Also yeah reall one must fix media industry by becoming the media industry. But most are trying that with indie animations and games and comics. It's slowly healing bro.
Yep she had her chance now she's a fraud and can stay in obscurity with the rest of the dkyemond cutters.
Yeah same, really I tend to try just about all media give it a shot unless it's a huge cost investment *ie video games* . But yeah I'll catch a show try a comic, but as you said hope I don't give that away for free anymore. I can't get hurt when something goes bad or is completely ass.
>I don't even know what to call this trope.
Cerebus Syndrome
Thanks

Winter Jam wasn't written by Ian or Evan
>Winter Jam wasn't written by Ian or Evan
Not relevant to my point.
>that's pretty telling of either Ian is lying or isn't trusted and Danny just is better at editing his own work or they know he can do his own stuff.
I just meant Ian isn't as good at recognizing stuff he needs to edit.
It feels like they’re trying to rewrite Silver into a “newbie hero with a lot of potential but looks up to others!” And that’s…not really him at all
Like yeah he can be naive but the boy straight up is insanely powerful and can take out pretty much any threat that comes his way
Heck Ian had to make Silver get knocked out by bombs in the Metal Virus arc so he’d be out of commission for half of it and not just immediately solve most of its problems
The writers are leaning into his tendency to shoot first, ask questions later. They're just doing it wrong.
>Silver is a rookie
This motherfricker fought in the apocalypse and even almost took down Sonic. Twice!
Silver’s uwu persona in the comics has done irrefutable damage to him
And it’s just the comics. Dude acts totally different in everything else.
Silver is pure shit, period.
who cares what normalgays think?
they think finding memes funny makes you racist
Ages don’t matter anymore in Sonic canon and for the longest time I’ve head-cannoned most of the characters to be adults anyway. I think of them as around my age, 21, or older.
It doesn't matter what your headcanon is, most of the characters are very clearly kid-coded and even had canon kid ages so no matter how you try to cope it, literally everyone is onto you when you try to pull your "well they don't have ages anymore so my obvious pedo art doesn't count as pedo art lmao :^]" excuse and that is why you still get called a pedo regardless of what you say.
wait theyve genuinely posted ages for the idw cast? any proof or official sources for this?
Surely, being Whisper is suffering. This girl isn't deserved this. Especially in Christmas.
Being whisper must suck
Lanolin must be designed by a Welshman.

you can't reprodduce with an anthro wolf, can you?
Mobians in Archie canonically had human DNA.
The last thing Sonic should be is needlessly melodramatic. Someone like Shadow having sad memories serves the purpose of him being an edgelord who takes it out on the world before his reform (because that sets up ALL the action in his games). I think they forgot that part with the comics.
Shadow wasn't an edgelord in SA2.
He wanted to destroy the fricking planet until Amy turned him around, of course he was an edgelord.
That was out of revenge. Shadow blamed mankind for killing Maria.
then why kill every human that wasn’t in GUN (of which Maria was one) and all the furries who had nothing to do with it. He’s edgy
>That was out of revenge.
Explain to me, in the simplest of terms... how that DOESN'T make him an edgelord. I have to assume you didn't read my post and the one it was a response to because "It isn't edgy because revenge" doesn't track.
Tone. SA2 Shadow is quiet, well-spoken and just a tad dorky, spouting shit like "I'm the coolest!". It's all about tone and execution. I mean, AOSTH Robotnik, on paper, does some really heinous stuff sometimes, but I'd hardly call the show he's from edgy.
>spouting shit like "I'm the coolest!"
That’s from the localization. In the original, he says “Interesting” due to Sonic managing to get one over him.
Even, then. That's fitting of his more quiet and contemplative characterization from SA2. There's shades of that in Shadow the Hedgehog, but his added aggressiveness, coupled with the game's tone and half-hearted attempts to be "mature" make him edgy there.
ShTH is significantly less edgy in the Japanese version.
SA2 Shadow is edgy, anon. This isn't up for debate. You can say "he isn't AS edgy as he became in his own game" fine. But the execution is he is always been a chuuni edgelord.
Shadow only did what he did in SA2 because his memories were altered by Gerald. Once he finally becomes his true self he saves the world.
>revenge isn't edgy because...IT JUST ISN'T, OK?
I’d hardly call colony dropping a giant space station in the shape of Eggman’s face on to the Earth edgy. SA2 is a goofy action movie to me. But that’s just me, these days anything darker than literal toddler shows are called edgy.
He was brainwashed into thinking his sister’s dying last wish was to kill humanity. Even if you think trying to drop the colony is dark Gerald is the actual edgy one.
Nice goalpost moving.
>He was brainwashed into thinking his sister’s dying last wish was to kill humanity.
This and a little girl getting killed in a cartoony game like Sonic are edgy. You might be confusing grimdark's meaning for edgy's if you think the standards need to be so high for edgy.
Maria is shot off-screen and there’s no blood. If Batman isn’t considered edgy neither should Shadow.
>Batman isn’t considered edgy
You've been spending too much time here anon.
He’s not considered edgy. His parents being killed by criminals has always been a core part of his backstory yet there are multiple toys, coloringbooks, and really kiddy tv shows based on him.
>Shadow 2005 was never edgy because um...Colors exists
The absolute cope of this dude
Batman was always the edgiest big-name super. They used to draw him with fangs and claws and a hunchback in the 90s because of that reputation. They did Infinite Crisis, Dark Knight Returns, Serious House and New 52 because of that reputation.
The reason he mellowed out in certain decades including the 2020s was because of his no-kill rule, so unlike Punisher (who also has coloring books and tv shows) he can cross over the line whenever it’s trendy to be le wholesome and reddit like it is now
Anon, motivation or being mistaken does not change the fact he tried to end the world. That's edgy as FRICK. This isn't about "oh is he a good guy at heart?" It's about his literal actions.
heh
What the heck is that baby supposed to be?
Looks like a sloth to me. But I don't know if it's a reference or anything.
How the frick does this make anyone an edgelord? How would you feel if someone brutally killed the most important person in your life, who was also the reason for you to live? Like think a lover or a son or something like that.
Yeah you would go fricking nuts, I certainly would.
Most people do not stand brooding on the side of the Golden Gate Bridge and then shout about how you promise your deceased revenge before enacting your plan for Earth's total genocide.
I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings, but Shadow was an edgy, quippy little shitass from day one.
The claim that Shadow is edgy is neither true nor false.
It can not be an objective statement, merely a statement about your personal feelings.
You CANNOT make an argument he is not edgy; read up on the fallacy of reification.
Edge as a concept is loosely defined and has no commonly used or agreed upon meaning... meaning as in anything deep enough to decide if he is indeed an edgelord.
The word edgy is hyper subjective like ugly, goofy or tasty.
Despite all this Shadow is a total edgelord in my subjective opinion.
He’s just a moody teenager to me.
>Did this actually happen?.jpg
This is from a pretty funny parody webcomic called Sonic Eggs. No, I'm afraid this isn't canon, even if they got an official Archie artist drawing several pages.
Shitting on Chris is such a good bit.
Poor fricking Chris was designed to fail as a character. Does he get better when he becomes an adult?
The entire show of Sonic X was a mess.
I didn't watch Sonic X, but I highly doubt we get any peeks at a timeskip, considering Sonic is not allowed to be anything but 16 years old.
It’s a “time is relative” bullshitery thing
>not even shadow
>it’s a lookalike made by someone with a sissy fetish
Oh…
Oh well, what I said about Shadow stands. How he’s just a moody teenager that misses his friend, has a hard time making new ones, and sometimes uses guns.
>get cucked tangle
>While your crushes guts get mangled

Welcome, new anon
He might just be coming back from a ban.

Piers morgan say risistant and freedom fighter are terrorist , therefore sonic and his organization are terrorist .
Surge getting bullied was also fun. IDW Sonic is a goldmine for bullying female Mobians.
Amy struggling to deal with the Metal Virus
That woman who got imprisoned in the car prison and got Charmy Bee infected
That woman who infected the flying ship of refugees because she came in knowingly infected but scared
Lanolin over her head in Eggopolis
Tangles struggling to protect Whisper
Whisper losing her Wisps
Surge being used as a footstop by Sonic and going mental
Cream going through several horrible missions
Vanilla getting infected
Belle being isolated from everyone as she’s a Botnikk
For me it's Belle
Always read Finitevus woth Michael Ironside's voice ever since someone on Toon Zone suggested it.
Is Lanolin actually anything like Sally? Or are we still just doing this "nusally" claim every time a new female appears?
She’s the new leader character and is insufferable so she’s like Sally in that sense
>“Leader” character
>undeserved feeling of importance over game characters
>no powers and no cool action scenes but is treated like a fighter
That’s about it
>undeserved feeling of importance
She's literally off royalty and a protagonist, unlike Lanolin.
>no powers
If you need powers on a character to consider them as worthy, you might as well restrict yourself to capeshit slop.
>and no cool action scenes
This is how I know you never read Archie.
Sally being an OC coldsteel princess of maginaryland doesn’t mean anyone wanted to see her bossing around Tails and Amy and acting superior to them. Nor did she ever have a single cool fightscene, Sonic did 100% of the fights
especially so in preboot
Most based posts of this thread.
Holy splitting hairs, Batman!
Add
>hangs out with her insular clique of other Donutsteels while the game cast are out there not interacting with them
"Tangle is the new Sally" was a forced meme, Lanolin is unironically her spiritual successor in personality and occupation. She even claims to have been inspired by Sonic yet acts like a total b***h to him and is a lesbian, just like the Sally we all know and don't want back in the comics.
Keep samegayging.
I wish Ian and Evan would stop writing in new lesbians. You have to start being self-aware you're pandering to your fetish too much at some point.
Is it a fetish thing? I thought it was just aiming for brownie points and lesbos are the safest route for that for some reason
The writers are pretty obviously progressive types too, but yes, sometimes you just know when a writer is enjoying something more than their audience.
Lanolin isn't a lesbian. Maybe Whisper is and tangle is bi but they don't actually frick in the comic. You know that, right. Like you understand these characters canonically do not have sex with eachother. That's your headcanon
It literally isn't my headcanon, it's Ian's and Evan's. They J.K. Rowling'd it.
Show me where in the comic they sleep together or express any romantic feelings to eachother
>I have no idea what we are talking about
All you had to do was ask.
So you don't actually have proof in the comic. Gotcha
When they hold hands and blush and stare into eachothers eyes and a lesbian flag materialises behind them
>but they aren’t having sex!
Most Cinemaphileuples don’t have sex, the majority of a romantic connection is crushing on eachother for years of a story before they confess at the very end
Didn't Ian literally state on a podcast that Tangle and Whisper aren't a thing canonically?
It was a tweet, and basically saying:
>"By contract I can't say they are a couple officialy, despite what we all know *wink, wink*"
Funny enough, he still got death threads due to that.
Death threats don't mean anything
Easy to say when no one is threatening you.
Have you been threatened before? That shit has the opposite intended effect on the internet and gives the target victim points they can use for social media clout. It's like the opposite of canceling.
>gives the target victim points
Probably because you made them a victim?
Get with the times young blood, being a victim on the internet only makes you stronger. There's a reason people fake that shit.
They don't actually care about death threats. I send Evan Stanley death threats every day because she's an ugly white b***h and she's just fine.
>this entire thread of crying because some1 corrected the smallest of their delusions
Lmao @ sonicspastics, pls never change
How come do you never see this level of wailing and tantrums on say, a Bucky o’ hare thread as you do from insecure projecting Sonicgays? Logically you’d think they would be the same
Buckygays can’t self-insert as a cartoon hedgehog because they grew up since age 5, so they don’t shit blood when someone says something on the internet that contradicts their imagination
You misspelled BuckyCHADS
Yikes that art style
Can the moronic DreamWorks posters add eachother on discord? This is for discussing the comic not an autismcares forum
Dreamworks is more on topic to Cinemaphile than sonic is

It’s not. It’s a completely different universe
But it legit picka up after eggmans defeat

Nah, Archie itself was not a bad idea. The problem is the people who they hired for it... specially in the writing department.

That's a woman?
>undeserved feeling of importance

>and no cool action scenes
This is how I know you never read Archie.
Why are there no black people in Sonic the Hedgehog the comic?
Take one look at lanolin and her nappy ass hair and tell me she's not a nig
Knuckles is black cause he has dreads and listens to rap music. The leftoids who say this will never see the irony in it.
It's quite ironic considering that his personality has nothing to do with your average ghetto dweller. He's hard-working, has a mature sense of consequence, and is very selfless, even more so than Sonic.
If anything, Sonic's the Black person since he lacks all those things.
Knuckles is Mesoamerican. His whole civilization’s based on the Aztec/Mayan people. Basically, Ancient Mexican.
More fitting than Black but still not quite there.
His personality is pretty asian, all in all. He's ascetic and lives in modest conditions, has a strong sense of pride, has a set goal he will go to autistic heights to achieve, and he has autism, if that wasn't clear.
>I thought he was black coded as a kid
No, you didn't, you dumb homosexual. That shit didn't exist back then. Go back.
>He's ascetic and lives in modest conditions, has a strong sense of pride, has a set goal he will go to autistic heights to achieve
That shit ain’t exclusive to Asians. Are you moronic?
I never said it was. Are YOU moronic?
You literally said his personality was Asian due to those traits.
And in what way does that mean that those traits are exclusive to Asians?
You just made shit up in your head to try and call me dumb.
Are you not achieving enough things in real life so that you feel the need to call strangers on the internet stupid?
This is what you said.
>His personality is pretty asian, all in all. He's ascetic and lives in modest conditions, has a strong sense of pride, has a set goal he will go to autistic heights to achieve, and he has autism, if that wasn't clear.
>That shit didn't exist back then.
People have been calling Piccolo a homie since 98 at least, frick off you revisionist c**t.
He also refuses to have sex which is as japanese as it gets
Knuckles is an Abbo, not black.
There's no humans in IDW.
I thought he was black coded as a kid, probably because of SA2 where he had darker brown muzzle and was associated with rap music. It's not even a recent thing because he had an Jamaican accent in early material for Sonic 3.
He’s not black or Abbo. He’s Mesoamerican. Having dreads and listening to rap music doesn’t make one black.
Hes based on an Australian animal.
Adventure made his people more South American like.
Its project your own adventure
Terminally online people are so hung up on trying to claim characters for whatever their chosen culture is they forget to just enjoy the characters for what they are. It's so forced. For all the references to different cultures in Knuckles' presentation and background, he usually acts like a plain hardheaded dope which is so nonspecific that you could even claim that he's white.
Whisper has black skin. For some reason Evan insists on making that her skin and not fur, even though it looks weird
I liked her whole fur being brown instead of the odd fur pattern she canonically has
She’s also got weird fur covering over her legs and instead of them being bare. No other character has that
I thought her legs looked exactly like her arms. Like everyone else. Any panel you are refering to?
>skin
Are you by chance moronic
You can see it in the beach story
Evan said if Whisper were human she would be black.
Also, Tangle would be Italian.
Nate Morgan was a prominent character for a good number of issues
>The comic is only ever good when Metal is on the page. It’s wild that one silent character can make such a difference in quality
People here are more obsessed with lesbians than the writers are.
I wish... it just comes to show you how little there is to speak about Sonic comics.
You guys see them everywhere.
Well, they are kind of everywhere lately.
They are not. The only characters to even be implied to be lesbians are Tangle and Whisper but people here and on vg want to label every female OC as one.
Jewel’s creator has drawn her wwith a butterfly girlfriend.
>Jewel’s creator
Is Ian, not Jennifer. She just did the design, the character herself was made by Ian.
In most cases in comics, the artist is responsible for more of the character than the writer.
Yeah well, that's not the case here. The writers conceptualize the characters and the artist makes the designs and it is tweaked and modified by editorial and Sega. They do not determine the character's personality, history, or role in the story. The only time an artist was more responsible for a character over the writer (when the writer and artist wasn't the same person) was Lanolin and that's because ABT created her wholesale in the background before she became an official character.
>Lanolin and that's because ABT created her wholesale in the background before she became an official character.
But who are we to blame for her personality and role?
Theres an issue with Lanolin's personality?
A lot of people are frustrated that her finally being added to the comic led to her just being kind of boring and whiny, like Hamlin in Archie. Most of it comes from Adam himself coming up with a much more interesting archetype for her (passive aggressive b***h) and officially published material suggesting she shouldn't be acting the way she does in the comics.
The series art book says she's got a plastic smile and shows her faking being pleasant. Ian and Evan have been writing her as outwardly confrontational and grumpy. The editors just aren't doing their jobs at all.
>she's got a plastic smile and shows her faking being pleasant
Are you sure that's what a single image of her smiling with the caption "plastic smile" means or did you just see that part and make up the rest in your head? Because nowhere in her time as a background character did she seem to act like a "passive aggressive b***h."
Read
K so I was right, thanks.
What is she like then
>or did you just see that part and make up the rest in your head

Nice try, though.
ABT gave his character to Sega and Ian, his own version is less canon than theirs.
>Sega
>Caring about Lanolin
It's just Ian and Evan's character.
Yeah, so?
Has nothing to do with what was said before.
ABT
Overdesigned as hell
Yes
You are acting like Ian wouldn’t be 100% on board with making her a lesbian.
I thought your "everywhere" meant every Cinemaphile media, not specifically just Sonic... in which case... yeah, only Tangle and Whisper
Sonic Boom is better than this garbage
I don't think anyone would argue with that. The show was pretty cute and the comics were better than most of what we've gotten. No idea why Ian was on his A-game for the Boom comic but misses all the key things from it when he writes other books. Maybe Aleah helped him out on it? Maybe the editor was more hands on? Maybe he's just got some weird hangups? No idea, but it's a damn shame.
Or maybe because it was a gag book.
That would fall under
>Maybe he's just got some weird hangups
because I'm saying he's somehow forgotten basic storytelling techniques he utilized in Boom. Those first four issues do a great job establishing the characters, creating unique problems for them to solve, and exploring their chemistry. His other comics struggle with these things.
Yeah, the problem isn't that she's a c**t. Some people obviously get pissy about it, but that's the intention. A lot of frustration is coming from the execution not being interesting.
>non-game OCs who tries to one up in-game character
Damn, I've seen this before
When is Rouge x Tails (Rails) going to get canon?
That’s our secret, cap. It always has been
In your headcanon
>how do we tell him.jpg
Rouge is already his girlfriend, fricktoy and wife, how much more canon can you get
But she's Knuckles'.
Knuckles? You talking about Ariem's boyfriend?
What, was there something between them?
She and Rouge discussed how handsome he is.
>canon
Whisper is cute. Would cuddle.
This comic seems very gay. Can’t market this to boys if they’re just gonna think it’s gay and lame.
For me, it's Surge jobbing.
Same
Makes me want to see her get bullied more
yum
Really we all are their is no way for surge to beat sonic as is. She barely kept up with a injured sonic with the cage now she's just normal. Which makes it weird she talked shit in the last issue like if anyone shouldn't be acting tough it's surge. Also I swear me and my bro read the issue together and when we saw surge get punked by sonic we died laughing. She's such a jobber and a punk I can't help but love her.
Except for that one time where she was seconds from killing him.
Boco don't tell me you're one of those surge is actually super strong I swear guys?
An she has to beat silver first before she can think of fighting shadow. Man surprised we don't get any surge vs silver art tons of shadow v surge though.
No, but that scene pretty clearly showed him being shocked and drowned at the same time.
As he refused to fight her and still had a messed up leg. Before he literally made her run scared and basically was dogging her stuff easily even with him not wanting to hurt surge anymore
I feel they are setting up a sonic breaking point arc, but knowing how bad Evan is it'll get fricked up some how. Or worse they don't even realize they are building it up for sonic to basically go full punisher on his villians.
I don't want a edgy sonic even though I do love the schizonic memes and jokes especially back when we first realized surge was a jobber so he'd bully and ryona her. But in the end of the day I still want sonic to be sonic and have a bit of a ego and free spirit vibe but also know when to put these frickers down I mean shit at least put them in jail. Like most people that were in prison weren't even put in there by sonic.
Archie had it's flaws but at least sonic wasn't such a puss, I really hope they are setting up a sonic moral break arc and he just realizes "damn I've got to kill these guys or at least incapacitate them". The funny thing is at first most of us didn't realize how bad it was we thought the tinker thing was a fluke or just a unique situation but the writers refuse to have sonic do anything remotely smart or interesting with his villians just forgiving and forgiving.
Don’t bother arguing with Boco about Surge. That exact conversation has happened like 20 times now. He will make the outrageous claim that Surge almost killed Sonic, people will point out that Sonic wasn’t even trying and was completely fine afterwards while Surge was completely unconscious, he will ignore all the points because in his headcanon Surge is totally strong and Sonic was hurt for like one panel. He will also cry about Scourge for some reason.
Even by tripgay standards that guy’s a complete fricking moron.
>they are building it up for sonic to basically go full punisher on his villians.
What are you talking about you moron
They've shown a few times he's obviously realizing how much trouble is pacifism is causing for others. I was more joking of course he wouldn't be punisher but more like they are setting up sonic maybe being more jaded. We've seen him in the last two arcs seem to regret his decisions of tinker, eggman and starline he feels if he did more then people wouldn't have suffered. Also surge as a whole is a reflection of that, my main point was they have been sprinkling potential development for sonic to not be as naive and forgiving. If they don't use it then they are foolish for having the plot point exist but yeah odds are they'll just pull another "I don't care if bad guys hurt people because they can change speech".
Well that is alarming lol, but yeah I guess I'll just ignore him. Either way though yeah surge really was fairly weak she literally only beat like 2 characters and one is a new oc and the other is metal who is notorious for being IDW's jobber. She also beat him twice and both times, she needed assistance and weird he's not immune to electricity especially when eggman knew he'd be against surge? So it's still weird people even think she's remotely a threat she almost lost to whisper and got teased and bullied by sonic. Without a power up she's basically useless.
>they have been sprinkling potential development
If you've been paying attention that's all they really do since the characters aren't allowed to develop almost at all, Sonic isn't going to go through any kind of arc. He shouldn't even have had one set up like this, calling serious attention to Sonic letting bad people go the way the comic has was a massive mistake considering he's only going to keep doing it not so much because it makes narrative sense but because that's the nature of a franchise built to last forever with the characters never aging or dying for the most part. It makes some sense in something like Archie where the world had more depth and things were allowed to change but this introspective and melodramatic aspect of the comic doesn't suit most Sonic characters if they're their games selves.
True, it's sad but true. I wish sonic would have been allowed to change and grow but the mandates demand. Of course I feel in the case of the mandates they could be worked around and I feel the writers are just lazy or to incompetent. Because no way they said hey you can't have sonic grow or have depth, I feel the mandates are just used as a excuse to shoo away a lot of this teams incompetency.
Also they could go the archie route and just constantly reboot or bs reasons their alive, or add in tons of clones and fodder villians. Especially since it's sonic it's like the big two we know they have to keep some level of status quo. I feel you could still make a great sonic comic and have him grow or have depth and not make it too repetitive. I mean really as you said Idk why they called it out or made it a arc, could have just implied oh eggman has contingencies after contingencies. Making it the whole holier than thou sonic is lame.
In my opinion they should have started things out like their classic comics: a lot of game characters show up, they do some fun episodic shit, the tone is generally lighthearted, and the zones are colorful and interesting. They almost sort of did that in the beginning, but in a way where it felt like Forces never ended so they're still fighting a war and after that the characters form a Justice League to become the world's janitors, from then on it only occasionally feels adventurous which is a problem if it's a Sonic comic. Arcs either feel rushed or too stretched out with almost no in-between and sometimes there's too much focus on worldbuilding for a purposefully neutered setting rather than just playing to the restrictions' strengths and focusing more on character interactions. People have been saying Sonic expositing Blaze and Silver's relationship feels too forced and it probably does because it was told to us like that rather than shown through more interactions between those two. The comic has its moments but overall it feels like it's often trying to be something it's not, or rather something Sega won't ever let it be, rather than work more within its means to be good at things it actually can be. Of course it's also my and every other complainer's fault for continuing to read it just because it's a Sonic comic that isn't too terribly bad, so there is that.
I mean we read it but most of us illegally lol, also yeah but the literal last comic I bought of idw was 56 the end of surge's arc after that I was like that one ppg scene with mojo jojo. I just said I can't do it anymore especially since what came after was a almost full year of the crying lesbians. I actually used to like whisper but then tangle ruined her, tangle's insufferable and she drags whisper down to her level so two whole arcs with them as the focus I was like nah this isn't for me.
In general you aren't wrong I feel now I enjoy the annuals and specials more than I do the main comic. The only thing I remotely sometimes think of buying it again for is because as a artist I love ABT unique way of portraying speed and mix of sonic style with comic and manga. Really it's a fun read and you can tell when he got to lead the composition or not. Reminds me of some of the peaks of archie comics sonic fights and art.
In the end another great thing about the annuals and specials is they are allowed to use more characters and change the art style and be more experimental. So yeah maybe a less plot driven sonic would have been the way to go.
meant to add this, it represents my eternal struggle as a modern fan of most series kek.
>almost full year of the crying lesbians
I was optimistic about each added character but Tangle and Whisper are kind of just a wet fart together, israeliteel is mostly boring, and Lanolin seemed above just openly b***hing to people she just met when she was a background extra but in one page of her being a main character my hopes for her being anything more than something nice to look at were dashed. Belle isn't really even worth mentioning, aside from her nose she's all melodrama. It's not even like these are bad characters or anything, like that one short comic ABT did of Lanolin shows her being even more of a b***h but the tone of the story doesn't insist on the reader taking everything so seriously like the IDW stories do. I've b***hed enough myself though, hopefully these characters can be more fun to read in future stories.
>as a artist I love ABT
The art is one of the comic's few saving graces for me too.
>but most of us illegally lol
I used to pay for it but part of the way through metal virus I started reading for free. Seems like that arc was a filter for a lot of people.
Yeah hopefully they get better but in reality they seem to keep getting worse also with lanolin being ABT oc and waifu she'll be more and more prominent and commanding. Really I don't even know how to make her work in the series as she's just another soldier and really just ABT fapbait like why should we care? Her most memorable scene was her hating on silver which got most sonic fans to immediately hate her.
See the potential thing is why I like whisper she arrived and had tons of potential compared to the other ocs. Sadly like most lesbians the moment it was decided she was gay all her character slipped away she now exist to be tangles gf (bff) and tangle is just the embodiment of sonic random autismo. It's sad really she wasn't going to be some epic character but I thought whisper had that something no other oc had. I'm ok with israeliteels but yeah she's more interesting in the side comics the author makes because she's just a lame gay lesbian bug.
Yep ABT is great at art if only he wasn't a sonic/furry coomer.
Ha and funny enough my bro hyped metal virus up so hard I had to start reading IDW. originally I was like no Archie and universe are the only canon sonic comics to me. Really I think metal virus is ok, best if like me you read it in one go like modern writers are too into manga but forget their is less down time with manga. No one wants to wait a month for mid or boring shit, its why comics used to be so edgy and controversial with all their deaths and cliffhangers they needed you to not be able to wait for next month's issue.
>she's just another soldier and really just ABT fapbait like why should we care?
I think Lanolin would be better if her story was about working towards a leadership role up from general irrelevancy. Technically that was the case but all her development happened offscreen. Instead as soon as she's a character she's already a leader with her story being about trying to live up to that role commanding characters who are stronger, faster, smarter, and more experienced than her. That's kind of IDW OCs' issue overall, when we meet them they're more or less as competent as they're going to be and mostly just have emotional issues to work through. It's not like SA1 Amy and Tails where they start out clumsy and pretty weak only to get pushed to a point where they need to step up and save the day. Even Tangle who probably should have been the weak link in the team is versatile enough to pull her own weight and then some, as long as often getting lucky enough that her shortcomings don't negatively impact operations that much. She hasn't really changed since her debut despite being an OC and having more leeway for development than game characters but that's probably due to tying her down to Whisper so much.
>best if like me you read it in one go
I found it to be drab and strewn with predictable generic zombie story tropes, so I can't agree there. Funny enough I was ok with the ending since it was about what I was expecting but most people flipped out over how quick and anticlimactic that was.
I'm not gonna rewrite my thesis from over here
but I'll say these characters already being what they are isn't the problem. It's that the writers don't take the necessary steps to justify and work off of these things. A lot of stuff "just is" in a way that makes readers unconvinced while a bunch of stuff you take for granted is over-explained.
Example: israeliteel is the leader of the Restoration because she's good at management. We only know this because characters say so and she has a museum. In the years since she took over the restoration, we've seen her role factor into a story, scene or even gag exactly 0 times. She's just kinda there. They felt the need to answer "who runs the restoration," but never felt the need to show that character do anything.
I can accept the hate on that arc not saying it was god tier but I enjoyed bits and pieces especially since it was the first arc so I gave it some leeway.
Also you aren't wrong the biggest thing with the OCs is they are like modern characters/tumblr characters. These writers confuse being dicks or constantly sad with character development and arcs. Probably why I actually give whisper some leeway because she's the only one who really ever has at least occasional relatable reasons to cry and be broken. It does happen to much though like come on whisper every day lol
Yeah I feel you on the lanolin thing, but again she was always meant to be ABT pet oc he was never going to let her struggle or be left in obscurity for long. Really maybe why surge and whisper get so much love even if they are memed to death, because they actually suffer and have at least a semblance of character unlike:
>Plank of wood
>Genuine Plank of wood
>Mega milk c**t
>moron sonic fan girl
But really you are on point that they need to actually do some development with the ocs or just stop making them. Only people I see defending ocs are twitter stans who just like fan art and 9 times out of ten don't even buy the comics. They could make the ocs more likeable than the main cast kidding if they just gave them some damn character and stuck with it and humility also just genuine arcs and development. How can they be allowed to grow and change and they are more static than the mandated personality characters kek.
>These writers confuse being dicks or constantly sad with character development and arcs.
Too true, that seems to be a modern writing thing in general.
>Genuine Plank of wood
Kek
>kidding
I wouldn't kid about it. Look at Nine from Prime, he's more fun and interesting than actual Tails in my opinion. He went from wanting nothing to do with Sonic to going full yandere for him on top of not being afraid to get shit done no matter who gets stepped on for the most part, which is more agency than Tails often shows. All the canon characters were "OCs" at one point and while they are timelessly charming as well as backed by nostalgia, there's no reason new characters couldn't potentially appeal to people more than them. Archie reboot was just the right amount of games influence mixed in with everything else Sonic related and balanced drab melodrama with fun adventure more masterfully than IDW has, lot of people still liked its OCs and versions of existing characters more than the 'canon' ones.
People were saying this since the very first issues. When the staff finally listened, we got the camping arc and Sonic and Blaze giving us exposition while they stand on a big clock.
I don't know why Ian and Evan struggle so much with writing cartoon adventures.
And they only struggle with that in this book. Ian did fine with Sonic X and Boom
The White Park arc and any Chaotix issue (metal virus excluded) are where they should be taking notes because those turned out just fine. The camping shit was boring and dragged on too long for something that would otherwise be a one and done episode of a cartoon with a brief message about treating the environment responsibly, instead they even had the audacity to give the fire a 'villain' since Surge started it which just adds unnecessary baggage to something that could have stood on its own. I remember Ian had tried to tell people it was plot relevant and not filler but filler has become a dirty word, the camping trip absolutely should have been some light fun filler downtime where the characters get to relax a bit and then show off how well they can handle a brief crisis like that. There's too much focus on what's canon or not canon among Sonic fans, a lot of them forget to just enjoy something that's enjoyable whether it's plot relevant or not.
I'd say the stuff I'd point at is Scrapnik, a couple of the stories from the annuals, and (as much as "muh power levels" readers hate it) most of Evan's Surge arc. The Chao race story got bogged down in trying to do too many things, even if I agree it was one of the better stories. I'd even say Camping wasn't BAD, just way too long and full of loose plot threads.
You're on the money. The writers need to focus on telling a good batch of fun stories to establish ideas before they work on seeding things in so heavily and a lot of the fanbase really needs to understand Sonic isn't a story with an ending. Maybe get Ian up to speed on that too, since he keeps wasting time explaining how things are happening.
Random fun stories are one of the things I like about anime adaptations of some manga. On one hand technically no it isn't canon, but at the same time in the better cases, what you're getting are enjoyable stories that feature characters you already like, then when canon shit does happen you have all this context and moments with the characters from the filler that make events feel more meaningful because of the time you spent with them. That's what's lost when every other IDW Sonic arc tries to be this big happening. It's like they're relying too much on the fact that you already know the game characters that they don't want to "waste time" doing stuff that "doesn't matter." Boom is a perfect example, literally nothing in that show was consequential in the long run yet it's still fondly remembered even in spite of the Knuckles design. Anyway I'm basically on repeat with this subject, I just needed to vent.
>needs to understand Sonic isn't a story with an ending.
This is one of the problems that causes people to get disappointed by how the game characters in the comic don't make any significant strides in their personality, it's because they can't and won't, but yeah it's also the comic's fault for trying to pretend it has the depth necessary to make that happen. Bringing up Boom again, characters there are static but with decent writing you can make the most out of that. Ian seems to want to tell stories that matter but he goes about it too superficially. I'd like to blame Sega here but after reading Drogune I would say some fault lies with him as a person too.
Most anime filler sucks, but sometimes it works. Loose, episodic adaptations are a better analogy, I think.
Dragon Ball filler’s mostly good. The only problem was the dragged out Freeza fight but that only happened because they caught up to the manga at the start of it. It’s why they had the Garlic Jr arc in the first place, to give the manga time to get more material out.
That is a better analogy, I was just thinking of filler I actually like rather than filler as a whole.
>If they aren't believing basic premises, you're conveying info incorrectly.
Basically. I was about to argue maybe it can't be done in IDW because the plot is more complex, but remembering some suggestions for Lanolin it actually could have been conveyed more simply and effectively. In fact it really doesn't take much to introduce a character even in a more complex story, in Xenogears the main character randomly runs into a woman in military dress who holds him at gunpoint and speaks a weird foreign language, alright so where is she from and why is she here? Makes the player want to know more. Later on the protag gets sent to prison and has to fight all the top prisoners but loses to their brute of a champion. Not the most lore-implicit introduction but he makes an impactful introduction. Like you said all it takes is a hook to make the reader want to keep tuning in, but all that exposition fast forwards having to get to know the character more over time and makes it feel like the writer isn't very confident in their characters or just doesn't care too much and wants to move onto something else.
The issue people run up against is that the comic introduced two ideas
>Silver is a hero who saved the world from the Metal Virus.
>Lanolin has moved up the ranks and become a team leader due to the Metal Virus.
before bringing up a third
>Lanolin's coaching Silver
without considering the audience disconnect
>Why is Silver serving under someone newer and less accomplished than him?
Fixing it is as simple as being mindful of character motivation when you introduce the idea
>"I was hoping you guys could teach me a thing or two about being a team player."
which doubles as a good way to focus your narrative
>"Let's start with this trust exercise, team." instead of random training.
and informing how you construct the conclusion
>Silver tells Whisper that anolin is right to chew him out: he's doing exactly the kind of thoughtless, impulsive stuff he came to them to unlearn.
Instead, we get people mad at Silver acting like a pussy and Whisper crying at her girlfriend for the 30th time.
Yeah as usual it's an ok idea presented with half baked execution. IDW desperately needs more of a vision behind its overarching storytelling because honestly just about everything in the comic feels forced in some way.
I don't like the idea of Silver needing to be humbled or having mentors like this. He should learn and grow on his own like Spider-Man with Blaze's advice and maybe Shadow steering him in the right direction. The girl power squad talking down to him and treating like a rookie when THEY'RE the comparative rookies is so wrong.
I think the guy who keeps cuddling problems because he doesn't listen asking for help on listening and going "You know what? I didn't listen. My bad." is pretty reasonable to anyone who doesn't have a massive chip on their shoulder.
>cuddling
Causing. I should probably sleep.
>I don't know why Ian and Evan struggle so much with writing cartoon adventures.
Even when you guys get them like the Winter Jam issue, it's quickly forgotten for complaining about the Diamond Cutters for the 1,000th time.
Yeah the people crying about OCs don’t seem to understand that those characters are the only guys to get any kind of engagement. There was a short lighthearted adventure story in the comic where Knuckles teams up with the Chaotix to fight the Babylon Rouges. People here have been begging for this kind of story for years yet nobody seemed to give a shit about it.
No wonder Ian and Evan stick to comic originals.
I saw someone note the chaotix issues as one of the lower points of the comic, I don't wish too many good things on that individual.
The problem with that is that IDW is still the equivalent of anime filler and can't do anything meaningful with the game cast, so stories with just them are going to be pure fluff that still has to go through Sega approval at every stage. It does most stuff with the ocs for a reason.
I used to think so too but honestly a lot of the games are basically filler in the same sense so I can't accept that excuse. They finally solved the issue temporarily with Starline, Surge, and Kit in that one of IDW's biggest problems was no meaningful villains to make a big story that could matter in a more personal way. In most of the games the main cast don't go through any major developments themselves and sometimes we don't even see the kind of world-altering circumstances that we got with metal virus. They can talk about mandates all they want but people have done more with less, maybe not much less since yes Sega is strict, but things aren't so dire that the stories have to be bad on purpose except in Shadow's case, maybe.
How does Sonic Channel do such a better job with side content and world building with only single images? I get more out of their periodic art releases then entire comics from IDW
They just do art that looks cool and has implicit meaning, they're able to wordlessly convey stuff with almost no effort that IDW would feel the need to exposit by having a character tell you how another character must be feeling.
"You know Sonic, I think I should spend four pages explaining my character to you."
I feel like they mostly do this to try and stem confusion on the part of autistic fans, but ilthe tradeoff sucks.
Agreed. Sometimes it pays to not be overly conscious of the fanbase, or be like Toriyama and throw curveballs just to laugh at them.
>When you only get one pretty decent issue by a guest writer, you just complain about 2/3 of the year's issues being bad!
Yeah? That's like asking why people complain about Penders instead of holding up Karl Bollers.
>she almost lost to whisper
Where the frick do you jobber-obsessed homosexuals come up with this? She literally curbstompped her. What, she 'almost lost' because she stopped a few seconds to realize that her new upgrade ran out of juice?
You homosexuals act like dbz spics. Surge could beat everyone in the goddamn cast and break sonic over her knee like bane and you'd still find a reason to call her a 'jobber'
>Archie had it's flaws but at least sonic wasn't such a puss
Archie's Sonic was a MASSIVE pussy and a hypocritical piece of shit who was all about favoritism. Frick that guy. IDW Sonic is a bit out of character, but he's nowhere near as bad.
IDW issue 50 says otherwise
It's just out of character preaching, which is nowhere near as bad as Archie Sonic's tendency to support corrupt monarchies and doom innocents if it benefitted him.
At least Archie Sonic had more personality since he actually had things to have personal feelings about, IDW Sonic just comes off as a preachy mouthpiece that occasionally acts like Sonic.
You're not wrong that IDW's version (under Ian, at least) is basically a non character. I'm just saying Archie Sonic is a way worse person.
That's fair. I'm used to Sonic not always being a great person and don't mind it since I liked fleetway.
Archie Sonic has his dumb moments but he’s at least capable admitting he’s made a mistake and is able to learn from it.
IDW Sonic will never admit his ways aren’t the best at all times. He’s an egotistical douchebag and all his longwinded freedom speeches are just condescending as all hell.
IDW Sonic is up his own ass and preachy for some reason, but otherwise still Sonic.
Archie Sonic is an actual piece of shit who hurts people.
Fleetway Sonic is more on brand than either of them despite being an absolute ass for "the bantz."
Let me guess, you're a butt hurt Tailsgay aren’t you.
Tailsgays are weird "nice guys" and arguably even worse than Shadowgays.
I'm just saying Archie Sonic supports Hitler as long as it means he gets to frick Hitler's daughter.
>IDW Sonic will never admit his ways aren’t the best
He does, he just also admits that he won't ever change his viewpoint regardless of how much damage it causes.
The whole thing is really stupid and feels very Geoff Johns.
>Or worse they don't even realize they are building it up for sonic to basically go full punisher on his villians
That's what's happening, and it's been happening for a long fricking time now.
Remember issue 23? The one where Sonic goes to a town he saved previously and sees it in ruins due to his mercy with Eggman? Then he sees the man himself and goes to try and talk sense to him (Shouldn't even approach the guy since he's supposed to be gathering data for Tails). But he does it anyways and gets FRICKED cause Eggman doesn't give a shit.
That should've been a major hit. He just risked everything and got absolutely DECKED. Like the world was trying to tell him he's a dumbass.
Then he comes back on issue 32, after saving the world and losing his memories, he comes back to see Eggman about to fricking murder everyone he knows and loves. The guy is seconds away from killing everyone.
THAT should've been the breaking point. But he just doesn't do anything. Doesn't even question himself. He just pretends like he wasn't fricked in the ass every step of the way for acting like that. Just lets Eggman go while he himself says he's just gonna come up with another way to murder Sonic and everyone he loves.
Ian just doubles down in the dumbest most anti-climactic way possible. If Sonic didn't snap then, it's never gonna happen.
You can sidestep all of this by just doing the two things Sonic Rush does: punt him into the stratosphere or go "Dang!" because he's already gotten away. The fact they can't seem to grasp this confuses me. Just let Sonic win a fight or "win" but lose! It's not difficult! Stop making them talk so much when they aren't saying anything!
Anon, that's not le epic masterplannerino.
Having Eggman get humiliated would make him less scary and serious! We can't have that!
Ian's handling of Eggman is barely different from Penders', I don't understand why people praise it.
It really took 60+ issues and Evan being the writer for Eggman to suffer ANY repercussions by having him be teleported into the sky and explode along with his city.
Also, not that I don't think he should've been punished, but pretty inconsistent for him to just be let go unharmed after causing global terror and beating everyone into a pulp, but then he gets fricking exploded for building a city that would eventually take over the world.
This was also the only good thing about what is arguably the worst arc in the entire comic.
I really want to know what happened to this arc. There's no way it didn't get overhauled in the middle of production, right? It introduces a bunch of ideas vaguely and then does nothing with them. Like what the hell?
As someone who hated this moment for a long time, I finally empathize with Sonic and it's for the reason I disliked that moment in the first place. EVERYONE was there minus a couple people and Eggman WAS seconds away from decimating them before Sonic arrived and practically solo'd him. What the frick were these people doing that they couldn't handle Eggman as a group? I would let Eggman walk with no repercussions if I was in Sonic's shoes too. What a bunch of pathetic useless jobbers.
The robot was on its last legs and Omega helped finish it off.
Eggman also probably didn't design it to fight Sonic considering he was MIA.
>Eggman also probably didn't design it to fight Sonic considering he was MIA.
A real subversion from issue 175
Yep, it's why I said in another reply somewhere I hope they pay it off but knowing the writers they are either too moronic to see the development they are setting up or are going for the but I'm the hero bs. Like I can respect it to a degree not killing but some guys get to moral gay about it. Like come on I'd accept excuses how eggman lives or sonic spares him but not him sparing him because muh freedom
Really in the end I hope we get even a fraction of archie sonic's "frick it we ball mentality" and they even did arcs where he felt like sparing or being merciful and it bit him in the ass but we understood as a hero he is moral to a degree. At least in that he learned and didn't frick it up again. Also as a anon said before they made it worse by calling it out if they didn't the controversy would be more of a meme. But they have the characters call out his moralgayging as you put "i'll kill everyone you love or I'll destroy the world for shits and giggles" Sonic:"lol ok buh muh freedom". We know he's not a typical hero he's more of a rogue who does what he thinks is right at the moment like that on sonic X scene "It's not that sonic was on our side, he just does what he thinks is right"
But long and short of it I can hope but yeah odds are it'll never pay off.
True really, that's the best bet just say "oh damn a clone or back ups" like really their are tons of ways not to kill eggman but not make sonic such a idiot or puss. Like the end of the surge arc all that set up for a overcharged surge vs sonic then he's just taking it easy on her because she had a sad backstory. Come on man it literally was a waste of a arc and a year+ of set up.
Yeah weird how that was ok for sonic in his book? Also yeah I feel it was only the worst arc because we wasted half of it on the damn ocs. I remember reading the arc with my bro and being like "man sure is fun seeing most of the game character togethe- and were back to the nobodies"
Like the one anon said, it takes literally no effort to have Eggman get fricked off after losing. Sonic abandons him in almost every game as whatever facility or bot he was in starts exploding and the guy just comes back next game for more. He was trapped in timeless white space and still came back to dick around. Sonic doesn't need to specifically spare him at all.
>we wasted half of it on the damn ocs.
>and were back to the nobodies"
This itself isn't the problem, the OCs just weren't doing anything all that interesting and the crying and pats on the back didn't make for an enjoyable read.
Yeah exactly really again it's the fact they constantly call out the annoying flaw basically spitting in our face that they'll have sonic be a moralgay idiot that spares anyone. If it was just oh whoops should have stopped eggman back then thought he died or something.
Also I agree my point is that the Ocs suck not because they are ocs but it ain't helping lol. But yeah really they were such a drag as you say because they did basically nothing and just went over the same beats of the side comic because tangle is a moron. Again a example of how she drags whisper down into just being her cry baby bff gf. The ocs are somehow less characters than the game characters with actual restricts put on how they can be written.
Surge has to beat Shadow first before she can even think about tackling Sonic.
Shadow is about the one character SEGA might actually allow Surge to beat, they made it pretty clear he's supposed to be a bejita clone forever.
Shadow is still the biggest jobber in the comic. Surge has at least won like two fights.
Funny thing is Rough and Tumble were created to be pathetic comic relief jobbers who get scared of the size of an average female mother yet they have a better win rate than both Shadow and Surge.
Ian was actually asked about their power-level.
>Q:Which Eggmechs could Rough and Tumble reliably take out?
Ian: I imagine they could handle your standard Egg Mobile variants, I'm counting those as egg mechs. They're machinery, they're mechanical, Eggman flies them. Getting into the modern era, the speed aspect is a bit of a problem because I can't see either of them keeping up with like the Unleashed bosses, the ones that you're like chasing down, that's a bit much.
Kyle: What about things like just base enemies?
Ian: Like badniks? Sure yeah, no problem. They can handle those. When we get into like end boss tier, I think they could probably handle the Death Egg Robot but Egg Dragoon might be a bit...well if they're working together-
Kyle: No, it's funnier if they just get absolutely curb stomped by the Egg Dragoon.
Ian: If they're working together, they might severely damage it. Egg Hornet, Egg Walker, Egg Viper maybe...? They beat the Egg Viper but they fall for the suicide dive, every time, because this time they're gonna get it! This time-nope. The thing with Rough and Tumble is as goofy as they are, as low tier villainy as they are, they are still able to cause trouble for Sonic and that alone makes them fairly powerful.
Kyle: Yeah it's just relative level.
Ian: Yeah, I mean there's a reason why Sonic and the gang win, they're better, but compared to your average joe Rough and Tumble are still pretty formidable.
Rough and Tumble could defeat Infinite before he got ruby powers
>Shadow is still the biggest jobber in the comic
What about Metal? What's his win/loss score?
Metal is a jobber across all continuities except maybe the OVA.
Metal has a better Win/Loss record than Shadow.
3/4 if my memory is right.
Shadow wins a lot of fights offscreen
A fight won offscreen is worthless. You need to demonstrate a character being effective. Show, don't tell.
I'd like to see Shadow hand her her ass, because that's what should happen by all accounts, but I'm afraid the writers will have him job (again) to try to get us to believe Surge is a threat now.
The only acceptable "Shadow doesn't win against Surge" scenario is Shadow having something more urgent to go and take care of mid-fight. He's the last one who should job against some rookie.
>He's the last one who should job against some rookie
Actual experience doesn't matter in this book, the Diamond Cutters get to talk down to Silver even though their leader only started working in the field a month ago.
>Worf effect
God I hate how common this trope is these days.
I feel like it's in practically all long running action media from the past decade.
I don't remember the last time... or even first time... Worf or Shadow were shown to be strong.
>from the past decade.
You have only been watching action media for that long.
What's gonna happen, Sonic?
You've forgiven every single person who has done something villainous?
You gonna give 'em a slap on the wrist, huh?
Maybe give 'em a long-winded and egocentric speech? I know you love those.
All you did with the Zeti was send them back home.
You've never even thrown a punch at Eggman.
So what's gonna happen? Tell us.
He'll just stop her when she acts up like he always does.
I am very looking forward to it.
I really wanted to like IDW Sonic but I hate it more and more as I think about it
Because it isn't Archie?
No because it just doesn't work on so many internal levels and shits on the game universe in places.
That it gets pretty boring after Metal Virus.
Why do you care about internal levels, when it excels in universal stages. Nobody uses or focuses on those anymore. It doesn't even shit on the game universe, thats been the opposite.
What universal stages? What does this book excel at besides artwork?
IDW Sonic is just a filler arc
When am I going to get my gays? I am sick of lesbians
Silver will be gay eventually
Has anyone in this book been raped yet?
Everyone in the Metal Virus arc
Source on pic?
Power Rangers Super Megaforce
Shadow is a black man
>based melodrama
I gotta pick sonic comics back up
I think people only defend Lanolin because she's a cute female character. IDW makes the fanfiction mistake of shitting on established characters to make the OCs look good.
Lanolin gets shit on just as much though.
If this comic was even halfway decent, Surge and Kit would burn down the restoration, beat the shit out of everyone in it, and laugh at Sonic's face.
Why is only Eggman allowed to be threatening?
Because Sega only wants the OGs to look good
Whisper is so boring because her arc hasn’t changed at all
She still has no chemistry with Tangle
She still is pissed at Mimic
She still has no personality beyond crying and being grumpy
None of what you said is true.
Learn to accept criticism
nobody in this thread are going to talk about the elephant in the room of the OPs picture? that artist clearly is a vore one
When are Shadow and Amy going to get their own tenrecs?
He canonically got raped to death by Shadow Androids
Hot
You know it's bad when people on Cinemaphile defend censorship of a lewd expression in comics.
"People" is a generous term for Sonic fans.
But most likely it's just Cinemaphilentrarians thirsting for easy >(you)s
>Censorship
Is that what we call editors now?
Censors are edits made for the worst so yes
Surge could defeat Knuckles.
I like Sticks doing basically anything. I love her.
Sticks is too one dimensional and repetitive and if she wasn't cute she would be forgotten
Needs more monke
It's funny how Forces is the actual war yet that game takes it less seriously than the comic does
That was the exact problem with the game.
All Mobians are for overlander men.

Everyone is in the wrong in the scene where Silver interrogates Duo.
How would you do it?
Lanolin calms everybody's nerves with her body and has everyone state their cases once they've cooled off. Going last, Duo relaxes too much the middle of Lanolin's titjob and accidentally morphs back into Mimic, resolving the situation and exonerating Whisper and Silver, who proceed to kill Mimic.
