Carnage has appeared twice in Spider-Man comics since 1999. Both times it was Norman in the suit. Cletus Carnage hasn’t shown up for almost 25 years as a Spider-Man villain.
Of course Carnage isn’t a Venom villain either. Carnage has yet to appear as a villain in a Venom comic outside of the mid 90’s Carnage Unleashed arc. Carnage didn’t even appear in the Extreme Carnage tie in issues of Venom. There WAS the minimum Carnage crossover that took place in the pages of Venom and Scarlet Spider, but that was Flash Venom, not Brock.
Honestly Carnage has been his own character available almost exclusively in his own book for 23 years of his 31 year history.
No? Carnage has appeared a tad more than that. The two dedicated carnage minis from the 2010s were starring spider-man too. And Peter was conprotag of absolute carnage.
They were Carnage books though. With Carnage on the Cover and Carnage in the name. They’re collected in Carnage trades and in Carnage branded omnibuses. They’re not Spider-Man books. Iron Man was involved in Family Feud and Venom/the Avengers were in Carnage U.S.A.
I’d really like Carnage to return to the pages of Amazing Spider-Man as a lower tier than this whole Dark God of the Symbiotes bullshit. I prefer him as a Spider-Man villain. He just hasn’t been a Spider-Man villain for an excessively long time.

I'd like them to just go back to a diverged path based on the original run. I want more Alchemax corporate drama and the Miguel and Tyler relationship. That was some of the best stuff from the 2099 comics. Hell, have some more developed What Ifs based on the 2099 characters, then you can bring in different writers to throw ideas at walls and not have to depend on Orlando, that massive gay, to write 2099 "content"

Fricking Bendis. This all started with him taking Flash into space and doing his best to ruin Venom. Like come the frick on, the Remender-Bunn monthly was already trying to do a whole thing with the Symbiote starting to shift to good, which was such an absolute rich bed for storytelling given that it was done while bonded to Flash, Flash's own issues, but then their tenuous relationship due to drugging the symbiote to force it under control. Instead, he takes it to space and makes it so they're actually the Klyntar and they're nice and they have this back story yadda yadda yadda. Then everything else just ramped up from there

“Kid Venom was based on a one shot that I sent for a manga contest Shonen Magazine and Marvel held in 2018. One of the rules for the contest was [to use a theme or a character from Marvel and write and draw a first episode for a new series] and the theme that I chose was symbiote.

There were already many Venoms and there were enough variations, so I thought it had be something totally new to be recognized. During BND is after OMD. OMD's decision was from the editorial at the time that is Alonso and Quesada. Slott is just one of the writers for BND.
And the writers for BND have always historically defended the descrion even after leaving marvel, they were even the people who asked for it in the first place. And the whole lee thing (if it is slott, which is super likely) points to slott absolutely believing so too.

So, it turns out that there it was rewritings and redrawing off ASM35 and Mary jane missing a few things in her arm and paul fricked over by the mini spiders was a thing, and all of the tunnel bombing would be peter's fault and the fallout would be huge, but the reaction was so bad they had to redo because it went too far on the norman scale

To be fair, Carnage has always been above Spider-Man in terms of power level. He’s never really lost one on one aside from getting torn in half by the Sentry. It used to take a team to put him down. And he beat the Surfer back in 1999. He’s always been a serious threat.
As it stands though, he’s been given a fair amount of upgrades in the last 5 years. It started out when he used the Darkhold and it removed most of his weaknesses. Then the symbiote got fused with the primordial Grendel symbiote, making it a hell of a lot stronger. That led to Dark Carnage, who was defeated but hid away inside Venom, until it escaped as a tiny fish.
Cletus was long dead at this point, but his soul was alive inside Carnage, they ended up hijacking Starks Extrembiote suit (extremis and symbiote fusing.) They had a falling out and Cletus’ conscious stayed in the Extrembiote and jobbed out to Miles, Stark, Scorpion and a few others. He’s currently a pile of symbiote goo in NYC sewers.
Carnage meanwhile decided instead of taking on a host, he would just take the parts of them most useful. He went full Megaman and stole the powers of those he killed. He stole The Spots’ powers (at their most broken) as well as Hydro Man’s. He then travelled to Asgard and used those powers to kill a weakened Malekith, before going to a Dwarfen forge master and forcing him to create a spear that could rival the Necrosword. He then freed Morlun for no reason except to call him a b***h, then went on a trail across the spider-verse to kill and absorb the traits of as many Venom’s as possible.
In doing this he gained Hellfire powers, and lightning powers, and anti-venom powers and a bunch more whilst breeding out all his weaknesses. Eventually this Grendel Carnage with an Asgardian weapon and the powers of dozens of villains and Venoms killed and absorbed the power of Knull, the God of Symbiotes (from a different reality because Brock killed the 616 version. He’s now a god.

I haven't been impressed by symbiote stories in a long time, but... Carnage has one fricking defining feature. There's no 'we', only 'I'. And the writers somehow frick that up too.

Because this carnage will be murderfricked badly by Bedlam Brock once Venom Wars begin, because Eddie will come out stupidly strong after the millions of years he stayed at the edge of time.
And Carnage will be remembered that no matter how many upgrades or even him escaping from Annie's wrath will maker him stronger, he will always be weaker than Eddie and 616 Venom.
He will always need a host to achieve full power.

The funniest thing is that Annie May cut off all of Carnage's wirings into other spiderverse worlds before the event started so he wont jump into other world and kill other venom hosts, including RYV Mary Jane and April, once again a parker fricked over his plans.
That’s modern revisionism. Carnage has murderfricked Brock consistently every time they met. It always took Venom, Spider-Man and another hero to bring him down because neither Brock nor Pete can handle it solo. Brock’s biggest win took the entire Avengers and more helping him out to win in Extreme Carnage, and that only happened because Carnage was going to win anyway and faked death to bring about Knull. The Sentry is the one person to tear Carnage a new one.
I have no idea where this current shift in character to having Carnage need to prove himself against Venom has come from. He’s always been the stronger and more dangerous one of the pair.

Peter wanted to stop that Doverton guy from becoming a “killer.” He was trying to save his soul. Pete knows the guy couldn’t actually get the job done. One random guy from Bumfrick USA with a gun isn’t enough to put Carnage down. Carnage survived being torn in half and atmospheric reentry, he survived missiles to the face, he has been reduced to a tiny puddle on the floor and still regenerated Cletus’ body. Peter wasn’t saving Carnage, he was saving the guy from being a ‘killer’ by crossing the line and pulling the trigger. That’s all.

Peter knows how terrible death is and how it effects his every day life from the guilt of the deaths in his life. It’s without a doubt the biggest thing that motivates him in most worlds. So if Peter has to take a bullet to protect his enemy from a death that doesn’t have to happen, then yeah, he’s gonna do it. But if Peter is in a fight for his life, or others lives, then he’s going to do everything in his power, even murder, to stop whoever is threatening or attempting to take his/those lives if he can.

hmmm maybe Time travel is the direction Spider-man needs to go so, Peter decides he has enought the way his life has been going so ends going back in time. He knows this is wrong but by now he longer cares since he has enough. He ends up in a time period in which he just had his first confrontation with the Green Goblin there he meets his earlier version. Who shows images of his future and convinces his past self to hand over Norman over to the police, his future self then vanishes. And Peter's life ends up taking a different direction as a result harry never does drugs, Gwen never dies and he never marries MJ.
