Starfleet has other things going on, the alternative to continually glassing the surface is maintaining a presence. Starfleet officers don’t get paid and they spend years getting degrees in astrophysics so they can explore space on a galaxy class ship, why would they want to babysit rape world for free?
If the Federation is so great, then why does Turkana IV exist? On that note, what is Turkana IV's tax policy?
It's a Fed Colony, so they are not subject to the Prime Directive. But what happens when a colony declares independence? Does the Feds recognize that? Because it looks like if you declare independence, you can then left to rot. What if one faction wants to rejoin but the other does not? This would e a recipe for the Feds being dragged into some ugly occupation or counter insurgency fighting.
It's quite funny that she just casually talks about "rape gangs" out of nowhere. No they weren't raiding parties that might engage in kidnapping or rape as well, but they were specifically dedicated gangs to only RAPE. Not looting soldiers engaging in an orgy of rape and pillaging after a battle either.
Organized squads of rapists day in and day out. The only question: are these rape gangs full time or part time employers? Are they volunteer squads? Perhaps each side employs Rape Gangs like a militia.
it's in the name, Rape Gang.
Though I think the anon was getting a bit ahead of himself by diving into extreme detail about the organization of the gangs; they're probably just a group of guys that got together temporarily for some rape.
Denise Crosby fricked up so hard by leaving the show early. Tasha Yar was boring, and her acting stilted, but that's true of EVERYONE in S1. Everyone acts like a stilted robot and the new head writer really expanded a lot of the cast. You know all that melodrama and expansion Worf got with Klingon shit? Tasha would probably get that for Turkana IV shit. We got one episode set on Turkana IV even with Tasha yar dead, but we'd probably get way more.
Probably more directly involved in the civil war, with some nice grey stories. Tasha would probably kill someone which would end the war. The setting feels more like Starcraft's Terran campaign more than anything Star Trek.
[...]
A more charitable interpretation is that this is seen through Tasha Yar's childish memories, so they may have been nicknamed "rape gangs", but were likely just more search parties or raiders. Rape would be that which the young girls feared the most.
[...]
The only time they are shown, they are shown with both men and women.
Data/La Forge/Tasha would have made for a Kino away team. Imagine one getting separated from the group and the other two having to rescue them as a B plot.

The funniest bit of trivia about the rape gangs is that they were made up of both men AND women.

wouldnt it make sense that there were originally only men in the rape gang and then they took the women they raped with them? or do the women also go around raping?
Yeah that was very surprising for a TV-PG show to slip in. I’m sure they were setting up a whole character arc for Tasha but her actress got impatient and fricked off. >Data, I will miss you most of all.You were my best friend, through and through >they barely interacted onscreen outside their drunken ONS back in episode 2
The problem with rape-based economies is that if rape happens enough within a closed system, women start to enjoy it and rape, as we know it, ceases to exist.
>be tasha, strong woman >escape rape world >leave your little sister on rape world >get sexed by robot man against your will >get violated by angry goo >find a guy you like >romulans kill him and rape you for years as a breeding sow
A little harsh innit
>Me watching as a kid
The holodeck would make for an amazing playground! >Me watching as an adult
Everyone is using the holodeck for a sex dungeon or goon cave, aren't they?
>what is Turkana IV's tax policy?
Rape
Maybe they’re too fricking stupid to ask for help and all the smart colonists left for somewhere less insane and just left /trekana/ IV to burn
Or maybe the Starfleet, who works for free, refuses to clean up the mess that is Trekana IV.
Every time they clean it up it devolves back into rape world. Maybe the wienerroaches just need a containment planet?
Is that moral?
I will make it moral.

>rape world
Ah yes, all the biomes of the galaxy: desert world, forest world, water world, and rape world.
>hey I'm off to vacation!
>Oh Risa again?
>Nah, I thought I'd switch it up. I'm headed to Rape world!
if voluntary, then yes.
Prime Directive.
bump
But aren't they a warp culture? Obviously they know of the Federation

What the frick do you think
> What if one faction wants to rejoin but the other does not?
Rape Wars
The only way a rape gang leader would respect someone else’s authority is if he got raped by them.
In the vastness of the galaxy it is probable that at least one rape world exists
Any world can be a rape world if it wants to be
A rape world would have a developed rape-based culture with rape traditions and rape economy.
That’s just India but a planet.
imagine the smell
rape gangs

where is this mentioned?
it's in the name, Rape Gang.
Though I think the anon was getting a bit ahead of himself by diving into extreme detail about the organization of the gangs; they're probably just a group of guys that got together temporarily for some rape.
I'd bet they are just normal gangs that DO loot and rob but they always take captive women and rape them.
Is there a smug Pepe of Lore?
Data/La Forge/Tasha would have made for a Kino away team. Imagine one getting separated from the group and the other two having to rescue them as a B plot.
I don't believe I've seen one

>Tasha Yar's childish memories
She was 15 when she left Rape World IV
wouldnt it make sense that there were originally only men in the rape gang and then they took the women they raped with them? or do the women also go around raping?
>or do the women also go around raping?
Yes.
If it's your first night in the Rape Gang, you gotta rape
it only makes sense
bump
the women they raped joined the rape gang so they could help rape other women, it's a common abuse cycle

I believe that your hypothesis sufficiently explains the poverty of Turkana IV.
Rape needs to be systemic, like taxes. No one likes taxes.
>What was Aragorn's Rape Tax Policy?
non-interference policy
>Sauronman the Rapist
Bravo Tolkien
Imagine being so traumatized by rape world that you can only love a glorified man-shaped blow up doll
Weak bait. Star Trek is liberal. Woke is anti-liberal.

her sister had already joined a gang so she'd be the one doing the raping
et tu brutus
>It's a Riker joins a Rape Gang episode
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
TRACEY?!
>riker on the down low
