Bad Batch is alright but it wastes so much time on dumb monster of the week episodes and will they/won't they retcon the ST banter. Plus they killed Scorch like a b***h

      Anonymous

It's okay. Its two core concepts are "A-team of reject clones" and "what happens to the clones after Order 66?".
But every time the latter crops up, the Bad Batch refuses to get involved, so you wind up waiting for the main characters to finish their boring monster-of-the-week episode so you can get to the actual plot which they rarely have anything to do with.

This isn't even supplemented by the Bad Batch being well developed characters. Every single one is a two-dimensional trope except for Crosshair
      >Hunter's the grumpy dad
      >Tech's the smart autist
      >Wrecker's the big moron
      >Echo has no personality beyond being slightly grumpy about being the "droid" (also made redundant by Tech)
      >Omega's the surprisingly useful kid that Hunter has to protect and who is wanted by the bad guys
None of those characters have an arc or development beyond that.
I know the show is bad because I genuinely was excited for it when it was announced and I gradually lost interest. Season 2: I smiled and rolled my eyes when Tech died. Didn't care.
And they're clearly connecting it with the sequels in a futile attempt to "fix" them the same way fans used to pretend that TCW "fixed" the prequels. But some things can't be fixed with peripheral content.
Haven't watched Season 3. Might get around to it eventually.

        >Every single one is a two-dimensional trope
Sometimes I feel most Star Wars critics have never actually paid attention to the classic movies.
This is just what SW has been since the very beginning. I'm not saying you must like, but you should at least keep your expectations in check. At a certain point you might just check out of it.

Especially when the biggest thing was that the OT absolutely developed its main cast. Well save chewie, r2 and 3p0

ESB is the only movie all the main cast actually got development, RotJ has some but only for Luke and Vader. In ANH they are all flat archetypes because the movie was meant to be a pulp throwback.

              Anonymous

ANH has development tbh, well not for leia but still han and luke have character arcs, hell they're the two most parroted examples of character developments in Hollywood fiction. ROTJ had soft development for than and leia with their relationship.

Get outside the bubble. Star Wars is widely viewed as a shallow story, and it is this way by design.
Han coming back to save the rebels is a bare minimum development, and Luke had somewhat of an arc with Biggs but that was all cut out of the movie. At the core, they're both fun and memorable character archetypes and that's it.

I respect what it did and meant for it's time, and there are moments and aspects here and there I enjoy, and the bedrock is solid, but it doesn't stand the test of time very well. In contrast, I believe ESB completely deserves it's legendary movie status. RotJ was a sign for how the prequels were going to be.

I can respect this. It's kind of a relic and is frequently concerned about things that every other Star Wars media entry gives zero shits about, like Luke for example is a whiny unlikeable farm boy who just wants to dick around with his friends and would have gladly joined the Imperial Academy if his aunt and uncle would have let him. He doesn't start the story as a hero at all, more of just an everyman who isn't on anyone's side until his family gets murdered.

Here's how I would've written the finale with Tech being CX-2 in mind:
    >After Hunter, Crosshair, and Wrecker are defeated and put into the conditioning machines, Hemlock orders CX-2 to take off his helmet to Hunter, revealing to be Tech, and explains how he recovered him alive, healed him, and eventually succeeded in conditioning him into becoming an operative as he will hopefully be able to do to them
    >Later, after Wrecker, Hunter, and Crosshair break free, Hunter manages to knock out Tech by using the electro staff on him as they then chase Hemlock with Omega
    >After Wrecker and Echo finish off the other Clone X forces, Echo quickly heads up and sees Tech on the ground with the operative outfit on
    >Echo deduces that the machines in the room condition the clones he fought and he goes about putting Tech into the last functioning conditioning machine and uses his socket-arm on a terminal to alter the machine's settings as it turns on
    >After Hunter and Crosshair save Omega, they all regroup at the transport with clones carrying an unconscious Tech as they all board the transport ship to escape
    >While heading to Pabu, Hunter, Crosshair, and Omega check in on Tech, where Echo explains that he did the best he could to undo the conditioning but it may not have worked
    >Tech then awakens and as they greet him, Tech questions who they all are and where he is thus confirming that Tech's memories of his entire life has been erased
    >Omega says to Tech that everything will be alright as he's among family and that they're heading home
    >After arriving on Pabu, as Echo is about to leave, Tech is seen alongside Wrecker and Crosshair
    >Omega asks Hunter if Tech's memories of them will ever return and Hunter says that all they can do is help him the best they can
    >Tech, Crosshair, and Wrecker come over with a laughing Wrecker's hand around Tech's shoulders as they sit down near them with Tech sitting between Wrecker and Batcher as he curiously pets the creature
    Pretty good, am I right?

you can't clone force sensitivity and that's what the entire project omega got wrapped up in was built for. without it palpatine would just have regular non force sensitive bodies to jump into and be fully powerless

The Bad Batch. It's why Omega is so important. She's the first clone to have been born with sensitivity to the Force. Hemlock wanted to research her to see if it could be duplicated. The research was gone, but supposedly Pershing found out how to do it since, supposedly, Moff Gideon's clones were created WITH force sensitivity through studying Grogu. But we never got to see if it actually worked since Din Djarin aborted Gideon's clones whilst in their test tubes.

she's the first clone created whose blood can receive midichlorians from another host source without her blood immediately going in and killing them like all the other clones' blood does. the ventress episode proved omega is not force sensitive. hemlock needs her blood to study why that happens so he can replicate it for the emperor's future clone bodies.

I enjoyed it and I'm surprised they wrapped it up, I was thinking they'd continue milking it for another season. I wonder what they plan on doing with Omega now. Disney Star Wars has been dead set on finding breakaway female stars to lead the franchise. They're probably frustrated as hell that characters like Omega, Ahsoka, and Rey are each different versions of Luke Skywalker, but can't seem to become popular like he is. The High Republic is kind of fun honestly, the main series is painfully fricking dull though. The side story comics that have been coming out doing their own thing have been solid. Disney has completely mishandled it. There's 36 books and like 4-5 different comic titles and I'd only recommend 2 comic mini series. Maybe 3.

Because he was not given anything to work with. "Scorch" in the script was just a by-the-book grim Imperial bootlicker, that's how he was written and directed and that's how he portrayed him. It's not his fault, but the writers' and directors, who simply don't know the character. You want him to portray Scorch from RC, but that Scorch is not "Scorch" from TBB and was never written as such.

I don't blame him for how he voiced Scorch. It's entirely on the writers for writing him that way.

Part of the problem with High Republic is how it's been structured in terms of release. From the very beginning it felt awkward and without a good anchor for people to latch onto. A lot of the major story beats are good but it's hard to get invested.

            Anonymous

They did an MCU style release but almost entirely in books so it takes forever to actually get through it all. Half of the books being children's books doesn't help things either. The Nihil are also not really believable primary antagonists. They're a fun idea as a villain faction but not believable as big bads and reading the Jedi fall for the same fricking Nihil scheme three times in a row is mind numbing.

What a garbage, pointless, meandering, filler, dogshit series.

What a bland, safe, predictable, spineless, toothless, illogical, consequence-free, stakes-free, "Disney" finale.

What an audacity to go specifically after a fairly niche 20 year old game, take a fan-favorite character out of it, and shit all over him relentlessly, and then just off him in what has to be the most pathetic death in Star Wars. At least Boba Fett in ROTJ got to fire his shots and offered some resistance. This is just a new low. This was specifically saying, "Frick you" to the fans, this was specifically shitting on legacy thing that inspired your corporate, bland piece of slop to begin with. Humiliation ritual.

This show was peak woman shit. There is absolutely nothing for men to latch onto. Omega is a Mary Sue plot device head-writer's self-insert. Super special girl, who is also of course a clone of Jango Fett somehow (WOMEN CAN BE CLONES TOO, YOU BOYS THOUGHT THIS WAS YOUR PLAYHOUSE? NUH-UH!), loved by everyone, who gets along with everyone, who makes only the most correct decisions, who is the most morally pure in the entire universe, looked after supposedly super tough super soldiers, and she melts their hearts! UwU It is so fricking gay. Everything about this show is gay. It is gay to its core.

This dogshit show is only liked by mentally ill fujos on twitter and actual infantile manchildren. That is the target audience. There is nothing here for anyone else. This show has seriously plummeted what little interest I still had in Star Wars. Terrible.

This is why i don't want Disney touching my favorites. Imagine if they introduced Kyle at the end of an Andor episode only to unceremoniously blow him and Jan up five minutes into the next episode. Imagine if Fordo just got killed by a shuttle landing on him. Imagine if Tyber Zann showed up in Outlaws only to be outsmarted by the Martez sisters and shot in the back. Imagine if Starkiller or Mara Jade was the Inquisitor that jobbed to Ahsoka in TotJ instead of Clancy Brown. Imagine, fricking imagine, if Revan got name dropped as "a powerful Jedi that was assassinated in his sleep."
And don't give me the "He was a minor Legends character" argument and tell me to be grateful Disney used him at all, Scorch WAS Star Wars, someone on the production team pulled for him and Delta Squad to be saved from Disney's canon hammer for fricks sake, and this is how they treat him? Remove all semblance of his personality, to the point you could replace him with an entirely new Commando and nothing would change, and have him job to a drugged up Hunter and dominant handless Crosshair? I'd have preferred Delta Squad stayed Legends if this is what they're doing.

Oof, if Tyber Zann was done dirty like that that’d hurt me on a personal level. Though I think he should have appeared in Rebels instead of Hundo. Or replace the scumbag pirate pig Hundo partnered with. Would have made a nice difference with the two taking pirating as business, but Tyber being way more ruthless and personal than Hundo.

        Starkiller too.

Funny thing with Tyber is that if I remember correctly he is technically canon. By the farthest margin possible. One of the main antagonists in a canon (and dead for years) mobile game was one of Tyber’s agents of corruption. I think he was a game mechanic to explain why some regions of the galaxy map were locked… so yeah. Not like he’s directly name dropped, but his organization is, and since it’s called the Consortium of Zann he’s canon. Technically. Unless it has been retconned. Been a while since I read about it.

          Anonymous

The Consortium itself in canon, name dropped in Uprising which only lasted a year, so we can infer that Tyber himself is probably still the namesake, but it's all still in name only.

            Tyber should make a comeback!

I wonder if Jason Isaacs would take the role, since the design was based on him playing Lucius Malefoy

Man, that’s sad that when your only canonicity is being referenced in a mobile game, that died after a single year of life.

I agree, I think after season 1 and season 2 they had a high bar set and they had some good episodes here and there, the art direction and tech is out of this world but the story is so bland and drawn out whats the point? Season 3 literally has 1 plot point and the big issue with it is that Omega is captured, escapes, then is captured again and escapes again i mean what the frick is the point? The Emperor shows up for basically no reason at all and all this new stuff is swept away so theres conviently no hanging plot threads.

This whole season and series has been really frustating because it has the shell of Clone Wars there but its just not redeemable with all the bullshit tag alongs they throw in.

Clone wars was gold-good most of the time with rare stinkers. This entire series was the opposite as it often threw gold at the start and ending to bait people while throwing dogshit in the middle.

I mean really all they had to do was make this show a serial about the rise of the empire era and the bad batch finding their way and the clones are just forgotten about, the Empire doesnt give a shit about them but everything has to be this big epic tie in to the main story line and the main character is a super special chosen one, its a trope that gets boring and shows that the writers have no skill in creating a real series.

Instead this series could have been about the BB just struggling to survive, they get hired as mercenaries and bounter hunters on odd jobs always on the move, the series could have featured them interacting with Maul's shadow collective, could have had them dealing with the Hutts and other shady characters operating outside the Empire but also cutting deals with them, the Clone troopers themselves get retired and end up as just random labourers or mercenaries kinda same boat as the Bad Batch but they are suffering from accelerated aging and dying, Empire switchs to conscript army because the Clone army was impractical in the long term.

        >it's absolutely trivial to change genders in the womb. Haven't you seen Jurassic Park?
That was because of west african frog DNA that they added to the dinos to fill in missing gaps in the gene sequencing. They explain that west african frogs can spontaneously change gender in a same gender enviroment so that they can still reproduce. The dinos in the park unintentionally inherited that trait from the frog DNA in their genetic makeup. Hence how life found a way and the dinos in the park started breeding. So this doesn't apply in the case of the clones of the GAR. All the ones who were functional by the time of the story were all sourced from fresh samples donated by Jango Fett. Clones produced from the "stretched" sample leftover from after he died would've been infants or toddlers. Who no doubt were all slaughtered when Rampart destroyed Tipoca city.

It’s really sad. Originally in the Bad Batch it was apparently some clone made to look like Scorch but not actually Scorch. Then they went on to decide that it was actually Scorch in season 2, have him do next to nothing, then kill him off without much fanfare. Its truly baffling.

Are those people in the room with us? And yes, it was groundbreaking. It was shot like live-action, using live-action techniques, utilizing pre-viz technology Lucas developed for the prequels. The CG and render technology was all developed in-house by Lucasfilm and ILM. It is the show that was largely made in editorial, like the movies, instead of traditional way of cartoon making, which is story-boarding. So yeah, it didn't steal shit. Lucas created Lucasfilm animation from the ground-up, and created the show from the ground-up.

There is one thing I haven't seen much discussion about:
    >In one interview, she [Omega's VA] also revealed Omega originally had a different ending, which would have opened the door for her to have a very important future in the overall Star Wars galaxy, but it was changed "from there" into the bittersweet ending.[60] All the same, she expressed in another interview her hopes that Omega's story would have larger ramifications on the Star Wars galaxy and even open a door for her to appear in a live action production, which was where she mainly did acting work.
    Taken from https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Omega#Season_three_finale

Going by this, they did plan to make her a Force-sensitive character and have her appear in other shows as usual, but they changed a lot of plans for Season 3.
It's ironic, the people who kept whining about Omega ended up saving her from being wasted in some shitty live action show.

She was also never a healer in canon. "Force Healing" is a videogame bullshit, which is now, regrettably, canon with those dogshit sequels. But anyway, real life is full of examples when students and doctors become terrorists, see Chechnya, ISIS, and so on and so forth. They chose her because she was Ahsoka's friend and they had an arc together. It had to be personal, not some random Jedi who showed up for the first time in the arc itself.

They literally did. We see them meeting for the first time, going through hell, bonding and becoming friends. They weren't just friends all of the sudden. We saw that happen. So that's a lie.
                >nor show any signs of her disillusionment with the Jedi and the war
True. They should have had Barriss more in the show between S2 and S5. It's a byproduct of the show being episodic in nature, an anthology, with George just coming up with various stories without much planning ahead. Like why the show was out of order? Because George would say, "I wanna do a prequel to the story [x]", because they couldn't do that story in earlier seasons. With Barriss, it made sense to me nonetheless, given what her master was like, how she handled herself in the Geonosis arc, and how she behaved in the bombing arc. I liked that trajectory for the character, but I agree that it was not set up, and I see why some may be frustrated.

Omega will inevitably appear in live action (most likely ahsoka season 2)

but ideally she should be played by Keisha Castle-Hughes because she voices (and looks like) Emerie Karr, who is an adult omega already due to both being clones

Never had that issue. Dee Baker does a good job of making clones sound distinct. Which is why I didn't like Bad Batch that much - because he used to do it very subtly with the regs, like Fox would be more firm and grim, Fives would be more lively, Gregor would be slightly unsure and shy at first, but then become confident once he'd recovered his memory and armor. Whereas with Bad Batch, they are overly exaggerated archetypes: Wrecker is super loud obnoxious Heavy from TF2, Tech is Nerd Emoji voice, and so on. That was also my problem with Sev's voice in RC, he is just such a caricature, so edgy and tryhard, I couldn't take him seriously.

Who are you talking about? Bad Batch or Delta Squad from Republic Commando game? Bad Batch are a bunch of mutants. Delta Squad were all voiced by different people to make it easy for the player to follow who is who, instead of just 4 Temuera Morrison's talking constantly (I don't think he has the biggest emotional range).

That was the funny part about Sev, Scorch constantly ribs him about him being a weirdo and Sev grumbling as you force him to get some bacta. He just likes killing shit.

I like Sev's characterization and his dynamic with Scorch, but his voice I cannot take seriously. Such a stereotypical "cool guy" edgy voice, just makes me laugh. Can't take him as a real character because of that, the other Deltas always felt more like actual people and characters.

That's the point though, everyone views him as psychotic and a cartoon character because as one of the loading says he legit was suffering from a genetic defect and is more or less a maniac who just fricking loves murder. >Aren't these buttholes supposed to be the same person?
Only genetically. They're otherwise individual people. Which was all the more fostered because the Jedi Knights encouraged their developing their individuality. Even Yoda points out that through the force they're all different.
              >Why the significant differences?
To contrast them with the upcoming Stormtroopers. The Clones are all the exact same genetic stock, who,by being born into the service and through the war, develop unique personalities and individual appearances. As opposed to the Imperial Stormtroopers, who start out as individuals through innumerable variations of breeding stock as the result of being recruits and conscripts, give themselves to the machine of the Empire and forsake their individuality and personalities to become faceless cannon-fodder.

                >Luke wanted to become one of them till his aunt and uncle died.
He wanted to go to an academy. That doesn't specifically imply being a stormtrooper. Han went to an academy to be a pilot, washed out and still didn't become a Stormtrooper by the time he deserted on Mimban.

Incorrect. We already know the Empire discharged the clones and threw them all into the streets no later than 5 years after the Empire was established and replaced them with recruits (Stormtroopers). And by the time of the OT, all the clones would've been too old due to their accelerated aging. There were no clones serving the Empire in active field duty during the OT.

The fact that Scorch was terribly misused is not in question. I agree with that. They had Delta Squad show up for a cameo in TCW and Dee Bradley Baker voiced Boss so I don't think the issue is the voice actor. It's the fact that he just talks like a stiff.

The show in general treated commandos just as a set dressing and nothing more. The writers of the show used them only as an eye candy for aesthetics and simply did not understand their purpose. It is telling that they created their own black super edgy and competent OC troopers, who do what the commandos are supposed to do, meanwhile the actual OG commandos were turned into guards patrolling hallways, and the very few commandos we had seen in the field were like commanders of TK troopers, and they were grossly incompetent and pathetic. These CX shadow troopers should have never existed. They are redundant and pointless. Nothing came out of them. They were no one important, no revelations came out of it, and they will never ever be used again in anything, because Hemlock died, Tantiss is closed, and they were his personal project. CX troopers should have been clone commandos, and guard duty could be handled by the TK or shock troopers.

I am also not against Scorch becoming angry and edgy as a concept. In fact, you could make a good story from it. Boss and Fixer made him abandon Sev. It is not a stretch to see things through that perspective. However, Republic Commando is not officially canon, Sev never went missing as far as we know, the show never established any context, Delta Squad was never even mentioned. Scorch was not a character in this show. He was a glorified easter egg with no history, no character, no arc - he was just a set dressing for Hemlock. And anything with him from this point forward (if there is going to be anything at all - if ever with commandos) is tainted by his pathetic death, which has to be one of the most pathetic deaths in Star Wars. He did not even get the chance to fight back. He died like a nameless redshirt. If that was the ultimate fate of Hemlock's henchman, then it should have been simply a generic OC commando. Nothing warranted him being Scorch. And it made a lot of people angry for no reason. Baffling decision all around.

Clones in Mandalorian were apparently irrelevant to the ST shit, and were clones of Gideon. The entire plot of Mando was basically Bad Batch (bad batch copied it, as it came out later), where Empire was hunting down this super very special unique child for their blood in order to make force sensitive clones or some shit. That's what Gideon wanted. But Bad Batch tells us that all the data was destroyed. Yet Gideon somehow knows how to achieve this with Grogu's blood. But then there was the father or whatever of that ginger guy from the sequels, and he is also on project necromancer... Thinking about this just gives me a headache. None of it makes any sense.

Empire is fricking moronic, absolutely non-functioning government. It makes no sense. It makes no sense that it existed even for 20 years.

The worst implication of this show is that anyone can just go and frick up the Empire at the height of its power, kill untold amount of soldiers, personnel, frick up their military infrastructure - and get away with it.
You can just go and chill on the planet where they had actually already been and where they fricking captured you once, and they will never come again. You will get to live in peace until your old days.

Oh, our base got fricked up and we lost shit ton of men and scientists, we lost the project that was of PERSONAL interest to the Emperor that he visited PERSONALLY, and those who did it just fricking escaped, escaped with prisoners they freed? Oh, well!
                Who gives a shit, lol!
                Let them go!

Makes Andor all the more fricking hilarious, that Dedra was shitting her pants trying to find someone who stole that shit for ships that Andor sold to Luthen. If this was "le peak bad batch" writers, she wouldn't even bother scratching her ass over such a minor thing.

Granted, they had already done this moronic shit with Lothal in Rebels, where they just overthrew Imperial government and as far as the Empire was concerned killed their top Imperial Grand Admiral and his fleet. And there was never any retaliation strike. Even though a few Star Destroyers would suffice to bomb Lothal from orbit. No, no one bothered. You can just frick up the Empire and get away with it. This is actually hilarious how moronic and infantile these fricking shows are.

Imagine if some arabs did to some US military base what bad batch did to Tantiss, and US would never retaliate, and would not find those goat frickers on the edge of the frickign earth or wherever they would be hiding, and anyone even slightly related to them. This is unthinkable. This makes no sense. But Bad Batch just fricks off to fricking Pabu after everything they did, and they live for decades in peace and grow older, and Empire never fricking bothered to even look for them, and they never found them, even though fricking ventress somehow found them, and galactic government could not, I guess? This is just so dumb. All for the sake of forced, sugarcoated Disney™ happy ending. This is such a dogshit storytelling. This is unironically a fairy tale, and it has no right to pretend that it's anything but. Only the show tried to bait people and pretended that it is something more, when this is a moronic nonsense for 7 year old girls.

That's kind of why I wish the BB finale was more of a bloodbath. Even if it ultimately ended with the destruction of Tantis, have the entire mission seem like a complete suicide mission. have Wrecker and Crosshair die. have Emerie and the kids ship get shot out the air when they tried to escape. Have Hunter sacrifice himself getting Omega off-world. Even if it still ends with Harlock's death and Project necromancer being shelved, just have the mission have CONSEQUENCES. Omega dealing with intense survivors guilt being the last of her brothers

I think its because Disney wants to portray the Empire like its a white male thing and the rebels are diverse group of people led by strong liberated women.

I mean all the storm troopers are basically literally a bunch of white guys. The Emperor is an english wrinkeled old man who is cartoonishly evil. all the female characters can do no wrong, even Nale Se who is an evil c**t has all her crimes forgiven because shes a woman.

Rebels had that female imperial who looks like the villain from Indy 4, and Mando has Moff Gideon who is a black guy.
The issue is that the Galactic Empire was always vaguely oppressive without having much of an apparent ideology beyond hating the Jedi. They were all white dudes in the original but notice how the rebels also were all white men.

He did it twice in Empire, the first time it come across as kinda stupid like maybe Vader should have consulted with Admiral Ozzel about how to approach the rebel base, instead Vader comes off as like a woman with too much power, ie he just didnt like Ozzel and was looking for an excuse to kill him, I mean if you have a massive military operation involving a space fleet and Vader is supreme commander shouldnt he be telling his subordinates what he wants done instead of throwing a hissy fit when someone doesnt read his mind?

The next is some random captain who takes responsibility and apologizes to Vader about the Falcon escaping, Vader chokes him out maybe just to cause fear among the other staff members that failure is not tolerated.

The final time is then when the Falcon escapes again, you can see the looks on the bridge crew that they all expect Vader to lose his shit and choke someone but Vader is out in another world in pensive thought to choke someone out as he was just deeply emotional and maybe even conflicted after just confronting Luke and then having telepathic conversation with him.

Basically if anything the whole Darth Vader choking thing to me comes across like Vader is some moody butthole who just wants to abuse his power when something doesnt go his way or someone doesnt do what he would have done despite the fact he never informed them of his expectations in the first place. Its kind of a joke because the idea is say Vader is supposed to be a military genius and a space wizard who is in special command but really it just shows that hes a bad leader who doesnt know how to command his men while using the excuse that posession of power is an excuse to use that power whenever he wants. For someone who is in charge of a military force Vader is surprisingly undisciplined.

The worst part about modern Star Wars media is that since Disney refuses to expand past the Galactic Empire, all they can use are Vader and the Inquisitors. No one finds the Inquisitor's threatening and Vader is invincible until Luke comes along. High Republic can't fix this because that won't have any Sith.

Why focus on the most boring period of Star Wars?

The Sith ruled the galaxy for 1000 years before the establishment of the Republic. It wasn't a unified empire, but fiefdoms instead. Each ruled by their respective Sith Lord. And the Jedi were the underdogs. That's a shit ton of story potential right there, and yet they focus on the era where nothing fricking happens?
