How did this show manage to survive St George Floyd’s death and the 2020 election BLM riots without being cancelled?

Why are you guys fighting? just chi- ACK!

Black folk only watch anime when it comes to animation. This was on HBO too I think, so they couldn't afford it.

The Boondocks was pretty mediocre. I remember watching the show when it was originally airing, and thinking "where's the jokes?"
It took me years and a retrospective look back to realize that the jokes were just black people acting foolish. And then I understood why Dave Chappelle ran from the Chappelle show.

Just say you were too stupid to understand the show

        Anonymous

The show was to stupid to craft a joke beyond "WE'RE LOUD AND SAYING STUPIDS STUFF"

Also, most of the show's iconic moments are just reenactments of real videos of real people. They literally just lifted real life 1:1, and didn't bother being clever about it.
inb4: "other shows reference real life"
Yes, but they're clever about it. They add to it. They transform it in some way.

No, I understand it perfectly. It's very lowbrow humor. But that's not even why it's bad. Lowbrow humor can actually be funny if done right.

But not because I'm above prison rape soap gags. I've just seen it a dozen times in a dozen different films, sitcoms, and standup comedy before Boondocks did it. It's hacky material.

I laugh politely when people make bad jokes.
But I don't owe the TV screen a laugh. It's a show with writers. The best material they can think of, is to beat the soap drop dead horse?

Eh, the show has it's moments.

I watched 20 seconds of that video and the guy seems like a moron and the video seems like it has nothing to do with the subject so I'm not gonna keep watching.

The boondocks joke is literally just taking a serious problem and exaggerating it to make it comical, highlighting it while making it possible to highlight in a polite setting at the same time. Using humor to make a topic that's too far over the edge to be polite to talk about just barely *not* over the edge enough that you can.
I mean, it's pretty obvious that the boondocks is a show about social issues in the american black community, right? I don't think they've been shy about that.

If you really think the homie moment moment is JUUUUST A JOOOOOKE LOOKIT THE SILLY BLACK MEN BEING SILLY IT'S A JOOOKE (AND ALSO IM A RACIST BUT IT'S JUST A JOOOKE SO ITS OK!!) then you're legit a moron.

                >I watched 20 seconds of that video and the guy seems like a moron and the video seems like it has nothing to do with the subject so I'm not gonna keep watching.

No, that's under the umbrella of lowbrow humor. But it's not exclusively bodily functions. It's also stuff like "damn, homies be tripping, yo." and "you gon get smacked talking like that." and random outbursts of violence.(random kung fu scenes out of now where)

But if do a little bit of extrapolating, then you should be able to see how it relates to the boondocks. https://www.tiktok.com/@hoe_math/video/7285868428773215534

South Park is just poopy jokes too.

                Anonymous

I've been saying for years that South Park is just an animated newpaper comic. You're not exactly changing my mind by saying South Park is low brow too.
Though I will say that South Park is slightly more transformative than Boondocks. Just for the fact that they take everything to the extreme. Like when Stan becomes a cynic, he sees the entire world as literal shit. It's lowbrow, but transformative. Meanwhile, Huey is a cynic, but he's just a normal kid occasionally spewing philosophy rhetoric.

I would say that Low Brow humor done very right is Drawn Together. That show can actually throw some curveballs.
