the director of MvC3 said that they tried to preserve the essence of these comic book characters and that the art style for the game was based off of western comic book art, but because comics deal in a variety of different art styles there technically is no one art style that is generally considered "comic book art style" and yet there are art styles that unmistakably look like stereotypical comic book art wich are likely the ones the mvc3 team copied off of for the game's graphics, so wich artists do you think fit the bill for the most stereotypical looking comic book art?
Was there a Capcom event today?
no
Sadly, yes.
How was it? Any interesting new?
Not really.
Only thing of note was a new omyoji game (that was already announced a few days ago anyways) and some Pragmata gameplay, which Cinemaphile is currently busy going bonkers over because e-girlfeet.
I have no idea what those games are
qrd on those games
It's called House Style you fricking moron

lol you took the bait

For MvC3, I kinda feel a bit of Mike Deodato(mainly in shading the blacks, a bit of Humberto Ramos/Chris Bachalo, a bit Ed McGuinness
For the old 2D games, I kinda got the feeling the JP artists were given Ron Lim's art on Infinity War to reference, as well as art Adams and the obvious Image guys like Jim Lee and Mcfarlane, maybe Silvestri and Larson as well.
I'm always fascinated by how JP artists interpret American comic art, they seem to have fun with it and always seem really engaged with the heavy black shading. The Metroid franchise always seems to take influence, for example. Usually more European/Moebius than superhero, but you see it in their ads and Zero Mission's cut scenes.
the mvc3 shader they used for the cutscenes is so fricking gorgeous, i'd love to see entire films done with it, hell i'd take animated films done with an ink shader over live action schlop any day
seriously though that shader is so amazing, i routinely rewatch the cinematics just to drool over the shading, theres one scene where the hulk jumps in and the camera is put behind him while he slowly turns his head around to peak behind him, and all the while he's doing that you see the shader dynamically and meticulously move around forming a ton of hatching lines across his skin, frick it looks so cool, its seriously the best shader of its kind ive ever seen
>, a bit of Humberto Ramos/Chris Bachalo,
fricking moron
They were huge in marvel merchandising art int the 2000's
>I'm always fascinated by how JP artists interpret American comic art,
I always loved the artwork for Zelda: Majora's Mask as a kid, so hearing that it was very likely influenced by the art on Hellboy (which had become one of my favorite comics) was like the final piece of a puzzle clicking into place.
I think MvC3 was trying to ape X-Men TAS, actually.
Meanwhile SNK
>Gonutz
I AM HYPED
Fun fact, according to a Nintendo Power interview Shinkiro wanted to work with DC comics
>Drags Kyo into the rape tornado
Not again
They went full mugen with boss Goenitz.
John Buscema wrote the book on Marvel’s house style.
The official DC house style guide from the Bronze Age was drawn by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez.
>DC game in classic Bronze Age Style never ever
Well thanks for reminding me of what we can never have.
Enjoy gay Joker & fugly Quinn popping up as Kameos in MK UNO everybody
We are no longer in that era
Jim Lee’s still is representative of the early 90s. Capcom’s Marvel games are heavily influenced by Jim Lee’s art style especially because they started out as 90’s X-Men games.
Japanese copping his style looks the best.
For those wondering, this is Pragmata:
>faceless robot and real dollTM with static hair in a shooty game
>not a new Mega Man or MvC5
You'll never get a new Megaman game ever again.
For MVC?
You'd need very dynamic-looking and bright art. Bachalo, Ramos, Immonen, Miyazawa, McFarlane, Bagley, Larsen, Jim Lee, Capullo.
Steve Epting.
but if there's a style that should define comic books it's definitely John Buscema.
>No JoJo game by Capcom ever
Why live?
>so wich artists do you think fit the bill for the most stereotypical looking comic book art?
The person who drew the character models for the DC superheroes back in the 80s.
Is this true? Each design comes from a different artist
>Sabretooth and Wolverine
Based on Tex Sabretooth and Wolverine
>Spiderman and Venom
Based on Tom Mcfarlane's version
>Hulk
Dale Keown
MVC3 interview means anything they dig deep into a lot of designs
it worked incredible for the cutscenes and character endings. but for the game itself was a disaster. up to this year you can only properly play on bonne wonderland to be able to see what is happening on the screen. while other stages suffer from being too dark or the bright colors hiding projectiles/fricking up with the perception of the players
Get a new pair of glasses or a new tv
yeah. the competitive scene that has been playing the game since 2009 are all wrong and the random moron like you is on the right LMAO. when game launched the biggest complain was how the game was too dark and fricked gameplay. Bonne Wonderland, Danger Room and Training Room are the only stages to properly play the game. every other stage will either hide characters or their projectiles. tournaments today are pretty much locked to bonne wonderland
>competitive scene
Oh the annoying minority that you shouldn't appeal unless you want your game to be niche at best? Those morons? Frick them and frick you too nerd.
