And you morons wonder why Christians hate this movie. Just say 'yes it's an atheist movie' and stop seething at the fact that Christians dislike it.

You want an extremely pathetic and bourgeois Jesus for pathetic bourgeoisie people like yourself and Scorsese. You don't care about the centuries of Christian art and culture, you just want trashy entertainment to make you feel good about being a revolting sinner.

there is nothing to overcome if there is no temptation. just like there is no resurrection if there is no crucifixion. Christ is great *because* he succumbed, and then rose above it.

        > there is nothing to overcome if there is no temptation.
Jesus was tempted and resisted. That’s the whole point from a purely character standpoint. Jesus is the fulfillment of the “perfect man” and the fulfillment of what that means since the fall of Adam. The Bible immediately promises a messiah after the fall of Adam and Eve who will redeem humanity, and it is then filled with heros who all have some sort of tragic flaw until we get to Christ. The point is that he is tempted and does NOT give in so showing a movie where Christ is tempted and does give in completely ruins the entire point of him.

Go back to r/atheism you stupid zoomer

          >Jesus was tempted and resisted.
This is what the movie depicts.
ITT some mongos think he actually gave up, but that's all in his (divine) head. Basically a dream. A "what could have been" moment.

          Actually got filtered

The movie isn’t a real depiction of Jesus, even within the canon of its own film.

It’s Jesus clairvoyantly seeing what life he’d have if he didn’t sacrifice himself the next day

        >implying god isn't great if he doesn't have human characteristics
You're LITERALLY moronic. At least make an effort to understand the religion you're talking about. It's not just blasphemous, it's pathetic from a completely secular view. You think the greatest principle in the world is the bland, prosaic advice of 'when you make a mistake, fix it'. Are you a toddler? That's fit for cliched Hollywood flicks, which advocate a happy liberal philosophy, making all individuals feel equal no matter their shameless actions or their intrinsic nature. But it's not a religion to live by or something to judge world-history with. Your worldview is that of a mental infant. Christ is great because he is without sin, and we are not. Any idiot can succumb and make amends, that doesn't make you a hero. And because there is a hierarchy to everything in life, we must investigate the exact nature of Dafoe's mortality in this flick. Scorsese's Jesus is not jut a flawed man, it is a particularly, egregiously pathetic and cowardly and idiotic man, which has obviously been designed that way to make the common scraps of mankind feel all the more superior. The creative motive goes like this: 'If Jesus is a man, so what? it's a common enough view, he can still be a heroic man. But if Jesus is an embarrassing sinner, well that is the greatest insult one could attempt, and he becomes more on my level.' It ceases to be a historical view, and becomes a spiteful, resentful attack on religion and virtue. It is so blatantly obvious. Not to mention the ridiculous gnostic, new age hodgepodge that is the 50s novel, which in no way can compare with the intellectual achievements of Christendom. Conceptually, artistically, morality, religiously; in every way this movie is degrading.

Fricking muslim. God’s greatness is evident from being our creator. But the fact that God lived a human life, with a human mind is what makes him the one true lord. Not only for reciprocity, but Jesus’ humanity is crucial, so that we one day may become as good as him.

            Anonymous

You're calling me a Muslim for believing that God, the divine, is beyond human flaws.. an almost universal tenet of religion. Yet you are advocating for a sinful Jesus. Do you realise how hypocritical you are? I never denied Jesus became man, obviously, but that does not mean he became sinful. Every single form of Christianity, with the exception of those extreme Protestant sects that consider Jesus a heroic mortal, thinks he was sinless. And even those extreme Protestant sects think he was as close to sinless as possible in humanity. You are not a Christian, you have nothing to do with Christianity, you want a gay liberal fairy tale that makes you feel better.

Why don't you stick to Hollywood shlock?

ever heard the phrase "never talk about religion or politics?" it's a divisive topic that can needlessly alienate random normies that make up the general audience of youtube videos, in either direction ("oh shit so he's a RELIGIOUS guy"/"oh shit he's an edgelord fedora tipper"
you have to have someone that is either already established as a religious person or someone who isn't religious but can talk about it respectfully

The attack injured thirteen people, four of whom were severely burned, and severely damaged the cinema."

Christ is depicted not as God but as a human who is receiving messages from God. That's blasphemy by the standards of most denominations.
