It depicts Jesus being successfully tempted by Satan, that is blasphemy.
dafoe jesus is unironically better than gospel jesus
And you morons wonder why Christians hate this movie. Just say 'yes it's an atheist movie' and stop seething at the fact that Christians dislike it.
You want an extremely pathetic and bourgeois Jesus for pathetic bourgeoisie people like yourself and Scorsese. You don't care about the centuries of Christian art and culture, you just want trashy entertainment to make you feel good about being a revolting sinner.
Almost like israeliteworship is moronic or something.
>unironically believing CIA propaganda
Why are black people so gay? I’m not even baiting. Blacks on average seem much gayer than literal any other race.
No father figure to whip the homosexual out of them
black people are either openly gay or larp as "hard" as a way to cope with their gayness. see tupac
Literally fake unless you only live on the internet. Go outside in any non-rural town and you’ll drown in a sea of white "hehe no homosexual broo! But maybe it would be fun to suck a dick haha?"
Gay Black folk at least peawiener so you know to stay away
>no homo
Who do you think started the “no homo” stuff?
people raised without fathers in extremely masculine environments have a higher probability of turning gay
there is nothing to overcome if there is no temptation. just like there is no resurrection if there is no crucifixion. Christ is great *because* he succumbed, and then rose above it.
> there is nothing to overcome if there is no temptation.
Jesus was tempted and resisted. That’s the whole point from a purely character standpoint. Jesus is the fulfillment of the “perfect man” and the fulfillment of what that means since the fall of Adam. The Bible immediately promises a messiah after the fall of Adam and Eve who will redeem humanity, and it is then filled with heros who all have some sort of tragic flaw until we get to Christ. The point is that he is tempted and does NOT give in so showing a movie where Christ is tempted and does give in completely ruins the entire point of him.
Go back to r/atheism you stupid zoomer
>Jesus was tempted and resisted.
This is what the movie depicts.
ITT some mongos think he actually gave up, but that's all in his (divine) head. Basically a dream. A "what could have been" moment.
Actually got filtered
The movie isn’t a real depiction of Jesus, even within the canon of its own film.
It’s Jesus clairvoyantly seeing what life he’d have if he didn’t sacrifice himself the next day
>implying god isn't great if he doesn't have human characteristics
You're LITERALLY moronic. At least make an effort to understand the religion you're talking about. It's not just blasphemous, it's pathetic from a completely secular view. You think the greatest principle in the world is the bland, prosaic advice of 'when you make a mistake, fix it'. Are you a toddler? That's fit for cliched Hollywood flicks, which advocate a happy liberal philosophy, making all individuals feel equal no matter their shameless actions or their intrinsic nature. But it's not a religion to live by or something to judge world-history with. Your worldview is that of a mental infant. Christ is great because he is without sin, and we are not. Any idiot can succumb and make amends, that doesn't make you a hero. And because there is a hierarchy to everything in life, we must investigate the exact nature of Dafoe's mortality in this flick. Scorsese's Jesus is not jut a flawed man, it is a particularly, egregiously pathetic and cowardly and idiotic man, which has obviously been designed that way to make the common scraps of mankind feel all the more superior. The creative motive goes like this: 'If Jesus is a man, so what? it's a common enough view, he can still be a heroic man. But if Jesus is an embarrassing sinner, well that is the greatest insult one could attempt, and he becomes more on my level.' It ceases to be a historical view, and becomes a spiteful, resentful attack on religion and virtue. It is so blatantly obvious. Not to mention the ridiculous gnostic, new age hodgepodge that is the 50s novel, which in no way can compare with the intellectual achievements of Christendom. Conceptually, artistically, morality, religiously; in every way this movie is degrading.
Fricking muslim. God’s greatness is evident from being our creator. But the fact that God lived a human life, with a human mind is what makes him the one true lord. Not only for reciprocity, but Jesus’ humanity is crucial, so that we one day may become as good as him.
You're calling me a Muslim for believing that God, the divine, is beyond human flaws.. an almost universal tenet of religion. Yet you are advocating for a sinful Jesus. Do you realise how hypocritical you are? I never denied Jesus became man, obviously, but that does not mean he became sinful. Every single form of Christianity, with the exception of those extreme Protestant sects that consider Jesus a heroic mortal, thinks he was sinless. And even those extreme Protestant sects think he was as close to sinless as possible in humanity. You are not a Christian, you have nothing to do with Christianity, you want a gay liberal fairy tale that makes you feel better.
Why don't you stick to Hollywood shlock?
This. So many literal homosexuals now want Jesus to be morally grey because Breaking Bad said that’s epic writing. It’s the fricking bible
Kek true. No knowledge of or respect for culture.
> so that we one day may become as good as him.
Blasphemous Mormon shit
pay no mind to what Christians think. if Christ were to walk the Earth today, Christians would reject him. follow Christ, not Christianity.
It's basically a Jesus fanfiction
not much different than the gospels then
Reminder that Marty is currently making a "good" Jesus movie because he knows he's gonna die soon and in the back of his mind he's still scared he's gonna go to hell because of Last Temptation.
>in the back of his mind he's still scared he's gonna go to hell because of Last Temptation.
No, he knows he's going to hell because he got divorced.
I refuse to believe that because no man with any intelligence actually believes in hell, unless I misjudged scorsese
Wtf do you mean?
There is only one hell. The one we live in now
it doesn't sound very good and he's only making it because of something he heard Satanic anti-pope Bergolio say
It is troublesome but also an interesting examination of the human side of Christ. Its a good movie but I can obviously understand why it upsets people.
Why was he so smug? It's such an inconsequential miracle
Elias is a water walker.
How come reaction channels on Youtube never do the religious Scorsese movies?
ever heard the phrase "never talk about religion or politics?" it's a divisive topic that can needlessly alienate random normies that make up the general audience of youtube videos, in either direction ("oh shit so he's a RELIGIOUS guy"/"oh shit he's an edgelord fedora tipper"
you have to have someone that is either already established as a religious person or someone who isn't religious but can talk about it respectfully
If Last Temptation is too edgy they could at least do Silence, but I guess that one flew under most people's radar.
a lot of tired atheist complaints are just about moronic american evangelicals and no other christians. not even just that, a lot of them at this point are pure straw men based on le satanic panic type shit from the aforementioned morons, decades ago.
The reverse is also true, I have never met a "le tip my fedora oh my science" stereotype irl.
Tbhfam I’ve never met the Reddit nerd type but I have met a ton of insufferable DUDE WEED LMAO type atheist who are into baby’s first conspiracy theory shit and think they are blowing your mind. This was a while back though when Zeitgeist was popular online.
I’ve met tens, wtf u talking about? You are probably that guy yourself without the self-consciousness to see it
My dad who is a priest loves the film
I'm reading the book right now
How does the movie compare?
What was his temptation? I haven't seen this since before you all were even born.
this movie makes me so sad. i can't describe it. like someone who has been imprisoned their entire life seeing the sun. it's weird, because i'm not particularly religious.
>"On October 22, 1988, an Integralist Catholic group set fire to the Saint Michel cinema in Paris while it was showing the film. Shortly after midnight, an incendiary device ignited under a seat in the less supervised underground room, where a different film was being shown. The attack injured thirteen people, four of whom were severely burned, and severely damaged the cinema."
>Be a Catholic
>See a film where Jesus is depicted as fully God and fully man, united in a hypostatic union
>ape out and burn down a cinema
Christ is depicted not as God but as a human who is receiving messages from God. That's blasphemy by the standards of most denominations.
