>“This sounds super uber-precious, but I think it’s hard to do this kind of creative work in a modern secular society because it becomes all about your ego and yourself,” Eggers said. “And I am envious — this is the horrible part — I’m envious of medieval craftsmen who are doing the work for God. And that becomes a way to … you get to be creative to celebrate something else. And also, you’re censoring yourself because it’s not about like me, me, me, me, me, me. So you say, ‘Oh, I got to rein that back because that’s not what this altar piece needs to be.’ Any worldview where everything around them is full of meaning is exciting to me, because we live in such a tiresome, lame, commercial culture now.”

sounds like a gay who should stay in his lane and make movies not discuss philosophy.
>"""stay in his lane"""
>no you can only discuss something if you an Expert™ on the matter!!

Brevity is wit anon
>confuses a simpsons joke on the nature of reader's digest for profundity
so you're just a moron.
>anon didn’t get the joke either
That makes two of us then right?
honestly, that threw a lot of people. some people even thought the actual joke was the complete opposite, hence the trend of trying to say more and more and more in order to make a point that could be condensed into a sentence.
Always thought it was a joke about having nothing to say and just tossing off a pointless witticism to fill the quota.
the actual quote is brevity is the soul of wit. reader's disgest condensed novels to basically just a list of bulletpoints, stripping away tons of meaning and nuance. so they condensed the quote to
>brevity... is wit
Well thanks to readers digest, now I know a smart new quote.
When he says "tiresome, lame, commercial culture," he's talking about you.
except he's just being a homosexual because he has no idea how trades work at all. me me me. what? any skilled craftsman will be doing custom pieces all the time, just as it was back in the medieval era when run-of-the-mill craftsmen created armor for peasants and general infantry while the most decorated craftsmen would create custom pieces for noblemen and kings.
this homosexual is so obsessed with his presumably grassroots bullshit ideology that he can't even stop and consider the fact that what he's saying is based on nothing except pure fantasy and make-believe. there is nothing great about the medieval era compared to the modern era. and i guarantee if this homosexual had to choose one, we all know which one he would choose. he's being a noisy homosexual because he wants to be taken seriously like a philosopher except he cannot even demonstrate a basic critical thought.
>pampered current year homosexual cries about living in a society and yearns about ye good ole medieval times
Many such cases
He just doesn't like post-modernism. Nobody does anymore, which is a good thing. Maybe we can finally move past it.
Andy Warhol + Bob Dylan and their consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
Post-modernism is objectively true, subjectively speaking. There's no moving past it.
It's my understanding some people think we already are, they're calling it meta-modernism.
>yfw you realize every movement throughout history was the “modernism” of its time
no.
Oh you haven’t realized it yet then, must be nice anon.
In the literal laymans sense of the word, sure.
>hurrr laypeople bad!
>I only use the most esoteric and pointless connotations of words!
You’re nowhere near as intelligent as you’d like to think you are.
What are you talking about man. You entered a conversation by responding to a guy talking about post-modernism/modernism in the accepted cultural history sense just to insist that they instead use it in the normal sense. All you did was derail the convo, you haven't dropped some bombshell.
>hurrrrr why won’t you spoonfeed me?
>why won’t you drop a knowledge bomb on me?
Excuse me, but are you a literal baby?
take meds
Must’ve broke the bot
lol holy shit look at this moron goddamn
and he kept doubling down what the frick what a moron
Not at all. Every movement opposed trannies and women in government. We are in our own hell now.
>ESL can’t parse a basic sentence properly
calling it modernism was an ego flex, similar to julius cesear saying all of history was nothing more than a precursor to his dominance.
>words words words
I’d relate to him more if he was referencing the 50s and 60s, where a person could make an honest living making an honest, reliable product made of thick, quality materials while also feeding his family comfortably. Having everything from cars, leather, watches furniture, musical instruments, steel beams, etc made in your own country has a certain pride to it and stimulates the economy in a direct way. Forget that medieval shit though.
50s are the wageslave dream. Reflect on your fantasies bro
the goal of any society throughout history is to give the masses as prosperous a wage slave gig as humanly possible. It was also easier to be an independent cobbler or whatever kind of business owner in the 60s as well. Grocery stores used to be owned by individuals. It was better in both ways.
A lot of the products made then weren't well made, you just think they were because the only goods from the 50s remaining that aren't in landfill are the good stuff. Also, you can still buy all of those things made in your own country, assuming you live in the USA, you just don't because you're lazy and you words are louder than your actions.
>you words are louder than your actions.
He’s trying so hard but still can’t type like a native speaker lmao
Because I'm not. I do buy American though.
You’ll never live here chang, you are stuck in China.
I actually bought my first pair of made in USA running shoes a few years ago (Sense of Motion is the company, damn fine shoes) and am saving up for a pair of Red Wing moc toes and a watch with an Ameriquartz movement. But I wouldn’t consider any of those items as affordable consumer products either. When all but a few leather and watch movement companies were put out of business and the infrastructure of their suppliers messed up because they have less clientele, what should be affordable products become luxury products. Still gonna buy all that I can afford, though.
>China poster larping as ameriphile
>”oh yes I would rove to keep buying many wonderfur product!”
funny thing is if you travel through the south you will see signs saying shit like “The Chang Farm.” Even the chinaman cannot deny the effay Americana drip and lifestyle.
>remake hamlet
>complain its hard to be creative
He’s partially right but this makes him sound bitter about the Northman flopping
Stop starting this thread, eggman
Ultra Based
Imagine speaking to two craftsmen, the first you ask, what you are doing? And he says "man I keep pilling up bricks after bricks everyday, my back hurts, my fingers sores, I just want to go home", and then you ask the same question to the other guy and he says "I'm building a house of God".
One is diminutive, the other is greater than oneself, but still built by oneself, so it comes from oneself to surpass oneself, ergo transcendental.
What’s with all the chinks on the board lately? Did the shilling firm get a new staff or something?
^tiresome, lame, commercial.
>tiresome, rame, commerciar
>being delusional makes hard work more tolerable
well yeah, moronic people can be happy rolling around in their own shit, that's not exactly breaking news
>I can't be creative because the church doesn't control the government
idk man sounds like a skill issue to me
muttoid education?
>eyyyy whyyyboi
>I says eyyyyy whyyyyboi
>how come China betta than US of A’s whyboi?

what a pretentious gay
It's just me or the Americans are seething?

>because we live in such a tiresome, lame, commercial culture now
motherfricker picked the wrong profession. but i seriously have to doubt this mans critical thinking skills if it took him this long to realize that and not in his late teens.
>I wouldnt treat my fellow people as well as I would treat sky daddy
Wew laddy
He should read a book called "The Complete Artist's Way: Creativity as a Spiritual Practice".
Big name creatives all seem to go through this phase he describes.
Renaissance artists dabbed on any medieval artist both in skill and scope of their works.
Directors like him are far and few between. Anyone who actually holds these views would never touch a film set if their life depended on it. And yet he's made three features so far, which for the most part were accurate and faithful to his vision. Major respect. I assume he's the exception that proves the rule, but it would be nice if more actually creative, intelligent, passionate if spergy / shy / autistic directors got to make high budget films in the future.
>the eggman himself is ITT shamelessly self-promoting
Wow what a hack
Dude nobody with his views would be allowed to make a film. He only started coming out with this shit recently.
This is just on-brand promotion for Northman, he doesn’t believe anything he says. If he did, you’d find it hard to get him to shut up about it, you wouldn’t be hearing about it for the first time in conjunction with promoting his “latest feecher film”
>craftsmen and artists of history were free from ego and worked to glorify God.
>ugh, how I hate myself for wanting that! I am Horrid.
This is your brain on israeli secular liberal humanism. Sad!
>I'm going to pretend that creating this thing for invisible, silent god isn't me expressing my own ego because I'm so desperate for meaning that I attack the real world and pursue the imaginary
kek, there are multiple levels of psychosis going on here
why is no one just laughing at a guy who took hamlet, stripped it down to absolutely nothing, and then thinks he has any right to complain about being creative? was he FORCED to strip hamlet down to absolutely nothing because some moron thought that was the only way to get asses in seats?
>remaking hamlet
>not casting a literal ham planet as the lead
Missed opportunity? Or wasted opportunity?
the "-let" suffix denotes a lack of.
>The nur in the dur of the wur
In English, Doc!
does a "brainlet" have lots of brains?
But Hamlet has two hams just like every other character. One on the end of each wrist.
ah, you've confused being painfully unfunny for wit.
>ah dont try to make jokes on my heccin serious movie critique board
>>“This sounds super uber-precious, but I think it’s hard to do this kind of creative work in a modern secular society because it becomes all about your ego and yourself,” Eggers said. “And I am envious — this is the horrible part — I’m envious of medieval craftsmen who are doing the work for God. outed as a pleb, it seems his ego is too big to admit that he´s a hack with no talent
He's admitting he wants to make art films instead of working for a soulless corporation out to make money
he should do his "art films", instead of complaining
>noooo actkually the modern world is SOULLESS, that´s why i can´t have inspiration!!!!
seems like a true cope, it doesn´t help either that he wants to appaear as a tradlarper, like he thinks religion is the only way to have artistic inspiration, of course he´s dead wrong about that
You're reading too much into it because you're autistic.
>he should do his "art films"
That's literally what he's going to do and has said so.
i can see the smugness of the tradcaths because they think they´re counterculture by affilitiating to a dead religion
It's kind of worse than that. They think they're the subversive underground counterculture by pretending to worship a mostly third-world religion with billions of adherents that's definitely not, in any way, opposed to where the world is going. Many accuse them of being gatekeeping shills, and I'm starting to view them that way too. It's like watching people who work at Target flex their Target credit cards and Target uniforms and then harp on about how they're so anti-globalist, anti-corporate, anti-consumerist. No you're not, b***h. You're neck deep in it. You're a living embodiment of it.
Modern culture is about pleasure and nihilism, and finding "meaning" in made up crap like black oppression and identity politics because religion is dead. We need a new culture of self-cultivation and improvement because the decadent current age leads to nothing but self-destruction.
Hey guys, yesterday me and my husband (ftm) tried anal for the first time and well I pooped a lot kinda watery idk anyway it wasn't pleasant after we proceeded to kiss but the smell was _bad_ like the bed is RUINED idk what to do anyways ttyl I just HAD to vent
But yeah nice thread really hope the OP gets a satisfactory answer or smting idk bye;-))
Jesus movies are just capeshit for philosemites
Ofcourse, why would i disagree
he failed himself at being free
he could work and create with mind state as he pleases, but he bounds himself
he need wushu to start free thinking
>the gaytheist seethe this caused
>665
PHEW
catchuck bros we nearly summoned freakin satan, could u imagine 😮
Are these tradcaths in the room right now?
