Looks pretty good. Always felt the MOS was overdesigned
Looks like MOS, which is good enough for me.
I like it, I think the yellow border suits that version of the S and it reminds me of the Golden Age suit. It's a bit hard to tell here but the textures don't seem overdone either. I hope we get the full look soon.
This design is the best, now that I see it again.
SHow the whole damn costume
We can assume the Gunn suit looks like this but not cheap, I don't think he'll risk no trunks
Fake
No red trucks, fricking please get rid of that shit.
Kys.
Why not call it The Superman?
not part of the reevesverse
I bet that's gonna change. The market has shrunk. You can't have multiple Batman franchises. Either Muschietti's is getting canned or Reeves' is.
Outside of that pilot comic from the 20s, has he ever been "The Superman"?
This doesn't necessarily count, but I get why people refer to him at times as The Superman.
Wouldn't work for a movie, nor does it make Supes seem personable.
I kind of see Lex doing it out of autism
Why is it covered in cocaine?
Uh... ooh! That isn't cocaine, it's snow! Snow from the Fortress of Solitude we're having. Mmmm, Fortress of Solitude!
Looks similar to the Kingdom Come logo
Gunn said that Alex Ross was in the inspiration for the logo and costume.
It will be interesting to see if Alex Ross gets financial compensation for them using his stuff in the movie, or maybe Gunn will frick Ross over the way Seigal and Shuster got no money from the Christopher Reeves Superman movies.
DC seems to be pretty good with paying creators for their work. Jim Starling, for exemple, made more money from KGBeast in BvS than from Thanos in the MCU.
https://www.cbr.com/starlin-has-made-more-money-off-dcs-kgbeast-than-marvels-thanos/
Len Wein said the same thing. I can't even remember which DC character he was talking about, but he got more from one appearance of a minor character than he got for all the time Wolverine has shown up on the screen combined.
iirc he got jack shit from both the CWs adaptation of Kingdom Come super suit and the WW2 eagle armor
do artists even 'own' a redesign?
No. The designs in the case of the KC Supes belong to DC.
doubt its a coincidence
Does this have anything to do with public domain? The MAWS logo is similar.
no clue on how copyright laws work but i dont think so cause the 30s logo looks much different from the common superman emblem
I just think it's a strange concidence.
i think with gunn hes trying to build up to a kingdom come film
I do wonder then if he will make something similar to World's first going on right now.
I think the most likely explanation is that he's taking the general concept of Kingdom Come (Superman comes back to show the new generation which is out of control how it's done) and repurposing it as Superman showing up on the scene for the first time and demonstrating to the cynical heroes that there's a better path.
seems likely too. could also be both lol i just think a kingdom come film would be a better conclusion to this long first phase than a justice league movie
it wouldnt surprise me if that was the reason they made the dcu batman older so they could retroactively retcon the reevesverse as being his origin
I feel like Gunn's DCU will be Universe where it will all lead to Kingdom Come movie. That is why probably he wants the actors to be the same across all the media now. He wants people to grow with those characters and see them grow into people in Kingdom Come.
So Lois dies and Superman has a kid with Wonder Woman? I'm not onboard.
We will see. Maybe Clark gets to have Jon. Who knows how all of it will go because Batman movie will be about Bruce and Damian.
I'd rather see Superman makeout with Batman instead.
yeah this. would also explain why damian is robin already
I doubt it. I think it's more that this movie is taking inspiration from Kingdom Come's angle of Superman showing other heroes how it should be done and inspiring hope in them.
Yes it looks cool and Snyderjeets are seething
The yellow border is gonna look really nice, hard to tell here but it seems like a really good design
The red's not bright enough to make it pop off from the yellow nor is the yellow bright enough the contrast the dark red. Keeping the same colors I think it look better like this.
That looks really bad
I don't think we can judge the colors that much until we see the suit in proper lighting.
Looks like shit, syndergay, if you want to make it look better make the "s" red color brighter
>Snydergay
You guys really are the worst kinds of casuals.
First thing I thought of with the yellow outline. Helps it pop out from the blue
Ok now I just realize that it's heavily inspired by Kingom Come but it also includes elements from the Fleischer symbol. Looking at the red edges inside the yellow I realize how the S connects on both ends, I guess now I'm liking it more.
>worst kind of casuals
no that would be the gunngays
He didn't even wanted him in Vol.3 but Feige told him to introduce him
I called him a snydergay cuz the colors were diluted, moron
Love the pic in the OP but this would be okay if the red were a brighter shade.
I'm over the basketball texturing on superhero outfits
>Just called Superman now
That's fine by me. My only concern is all the other heroes crammed in. Not that I don't appreciate the spotlight, but I'm here for Superman, you know?
Who's the villain anyway?
I'm not too worried about the other heroes. Besides showing that the world is populated by other heroes, I like the way Gunn explained it.
We don't know who *the* villain is yet. We know The Engineer will likely be an antagonist in some form and Luthor is in the movie.
If the heroes are treated like cameos or guys he meets up on emergencies rather than central to the plot, then I could be okay with that. Like imagine Clark having a conversation with Metamorpho about something mundane while they're fighting a sea monster or something.
Yeah, I think they're gonna primarily be used to show the status quo at the beginning of the movie and how Superman changes it.
I think this is it. He's sourced the DCAU as one of the inspirations for his take, and I could see his DCU being very much like JLU. Where all the heroes already sort of exist and have for a while and the movies aren't origin stories but just episodic adventures.
>The Engineer
A rando Wildstorm character? Why? With all the heroes around, Parasite would have been perfect.Or at least AMAZO
Setup for the Authority film although I think they're still called Stormwatch in Superman.
Probably Braniac, one of the comics that inspired the movie was Superman: Braniac. Since the title of the film was originally Legacy and that's probably the main theme too, they're probably going with the DCAU backstory where Braniac was one of the few survivors of Krypton.
https://www.dcuniverseinfinite.com/collections/gtk-superman
Way too late for this. The comic film unified universe thing has entirely come and gone while DC was trying to get its pants on.
It's really disturbing just how much is riding on this movie making a billion at the box office.
Sydney Sweeney as Power Girl.
Make it happen, Gunn.
Not enough muscles. Gina Carano fir Powergirl or bust.
as soon as it was announced gunn was giving us jurassic league I was on board
How should I feel about this? I love the KC emblem but using it as the main one, especially in a young Superman, just feels off.
Also dropping the "Legacy" ain't a bad idea, nothing wrong with just using the character's name with no subtitle or twist.
>After decades of WB trying to destroy Superman, he returns to save it
In true Superman fashion. Hypercrisis is real
Cautiously optimistic.
Is this from a comic or did someone just draw this today?
The way the red edges connect in a loop but it's all contained behind the wall of yellow from the back is somehow making it work better. I'm loving this detail
Clay Mann is a comic artist but he drew this for the occasion
Is it just me or do the proportions look slightly off from the Ross shield, even accounting for the angle
It's okay though, makes it a bit unique
I wish there were set pics of Crisis Routh in the normal-colored suit
https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1763399958533640611
Is this a joke? It looks like shit. Why not use the classical symbol? Even Snyder got that one right.
The Snyder symbol is more curvy and serif-y
The vanilla symbol is Reeve etc
Classic symbol has serifs too
The Snyder symbol is thin at the ends and thick in the middle
You hate this
?
Yes. It doesn't even look like an S it looks like an .
You have this classical, universally accepted symbol, that no one dislikes, and you change it for no reason. I get things like removing his trunks (because there are people that dislike that) but no one dislikes the crest.
>Yes. It doesn't even look like an S it looks like an .
Because you're fricking moronic. Also keep in mind, you're looking at OP's pic from a side angle super close
No. You are moronic. Why was this change necessary? Why can't Gunn just stick to the source material?
Before it had character. It's just soulless debranding.
>Why can't Gunn just stick to the source material?
moron, see
. There is a precedent, a well known one in fact
>There's this one Elseworlds comics were it was done once.
Not only is is it a bullshit excuse, it's not even the same color scheme. It's Gunn's OC, at best you can say that it was "inspired" by the KC logo.
But all that aside, 99% of the audience hasn't even heard of Kingdom Come. And the remaining 1% still wants the classical iconic logo that everyone is familiar with.
This movie will flop because Gunn is wasting his time on these dogshit changes that nobody asked for. It's going to be the Suicide Squad all over again.
You're just mad because you thought Gunn was going to do the trunks and were celebrating only to get BTFO and leave the Action Comics thread.
t.
I accept your concession.
Btw you're complaining about change and crying over a symbol that wasn't even the original
>>>>Gets confronted by an actual argument
replies with "you mad"
>>Gets basedjacked
>Thinks he's won
This is what low IQ does to a mf...
Someone already told you that you're trying too hard in the other thread. If you're going to troll, either commit to talking shit about Superman, or commit to being a hardcore nostalgiagay. At least make it entertaining.
Who says Gunn isn't doing the trunks
Nobody b***hed about Batman wearing all black armor and his popularity skyrocketed because of the actors, writing, and direction, not the logos or costume.
True, they didn't, they've b***hed about the actors in every movie instead. It's almost like a universal constant at this point ever since Keaton was cast
>This movie will flop because Gunn is wasting his time on these dogshit changes that nobody asked for. It's going to be the Suicide Squad all over again.
So a good movie?
Legit autism. You're only acting up this much because you've doubled down too hard.
Honestly the new Burger King and Nissan logos are an improvement
Since we're posting S's
This better not be a lousy film.
I like Ross, but he could stand to make his subjects a *bit* more dynamic with poses. He's photorealistic to a fault.
I enjoyed The Suicide Squad
Gunn's directing it so of course it will be lousy.
The chad Kryptonian script texture mogs the frick out of this basic crap
This. If you're gonna do a texture, make it interesting. Don't just make it look like cheap car upholstery.
He looks like Cavill in that shot.
David Corenswet looks like the missing link between Tom Welling and Henry Cavill
You can really tell who the americans are and who is the brit in the pic kek
Tom is Canadian
They all really look like siblings, impressive casting
Lex and Clark fricking Lois? Nice
>Yellow outline harkening back to golden age and also making the red pop instead of clashing too much with the red
Capekino incoming. Maybe some gold cuffs and belt to break up the color a bit at the waist, the onesie thing from Man of Steel didn't work
>the onesie thing from Man of Steel didn't work
It really didn't. Note how pic related looks way better.
That looks like shit, too, because of how the suit is put together. Recoloring it won't work, it needs overhauls. The texture on the blue itself would work but it needs an actual belt. The trunks also need to be like a boxer's trunks, not briefs.
I think it took something that didn't really work, the DCEU suit, and made it way better. I do agree that that suit was just inherently shit though.
Really hope we get ASS-style trunks with the suit. And that the colors end up looking brighter than the OP. That specific shot could be the lighting or the color filter for all we know.
I hate trunks outside of comics and cartoons.
This is as high as they can go.
The DCEU suit needed a bit more color, mostly. It can work without the trunks but they made the side detailing, belt, and gauntlets a different shape in Batman v Superman and got rid of the only positive side it had, which was the sleekness. The textures also became more obnoxious and they fricked up his hair.
>This is as high as they can go.
Whoops
Now this would be the GOAT costume if the trunks weren't so high. Make them look more like how it's drawn here and I would have a hard time imagining a better suit. Maybe make the belt black, too
Looks like shit. I like no trunks.
The black logo radiates such chad energy that it instantly elevates the suit and catches your eyes. They never should have moved away from it
>I like no trunks.
Then get rid of the cape, the boots, and the giant S while you're at it.
The big problem is that the trunks only look good on people with Schwarzenegger tier builds. Christopher Reeve even looks a bit goofy with them but you wouldn't talk shit to
That's what roids are for
Christopher Reeve wasn't Schwarzenegger level and he looked good.
Nobody cares.
God, the MoS suit was so ugly. I'll give BvS this, they at least kinda improved the suit a little bit, though I was never a fan of how 'alien' it's supposed to look.
God, I want trunks like this.
Looks much better here. You can keep the textures, but remove them from the shield and boots Having the whole thing made of the same material ends up making it look cheaper and weird. Batman looked better in the film for the simple fact that his gloves, belt, cowl, etc all had different textures.
What could've been but people were afraid of superman looking "goofy"
The color does but MOS suit doesn't go with trunks. Maybe some red accents in the hips could
ITT:seething snyder pajeets
>snyder pajeets
You mean a staged psyop?
Now that I think about it, is this the first Superman movie to just be titled "Superman"?
Like the actual first Superman film from 1978 was called "Superman: The Movie".
Ugh random textures, we're gonna stop that huh?
Perfect example of everything not to do
I think I know what you mean
>Chest emblem is too small
>Red is too maroon.
>Shorts are riding too high
God, the maroon color was so ugly.
I do still like the 'S' shield buckle though.
The s was too small, thats it
This and the merged Rebirth suit are probably the best ways of doing a suit without trunks. The symbol connecting to the cape isn't necessary but the belt and gauntlets look better here
As far as angular variations go I like the MAWS take, less abstract S than KC
Honestly prefer this, the Kingdom come, New52, Man of Steel, Flesicher/40's logos over the main one they'd been using since the 50's onwards. Even the original one looked cool when drawn by Ivan Reis
Everyone talking about the suits and symbol but what should Metropolis look like? Would be neat if they did something like The Batman where it looks grounded and modern while still retaining the atmosphere and deco aesthetic
Either make it the City of Tomorrow, or make art deco/people and technology are anachronistic and stylish. Just taking modern day clothes, slang and designs has always been gay. Superheroes should not be changed to fit our world, our world should change to fit them.
>debating over suits
Best Clark didn't even need a suit.
>best Lex
>best Lois
>best, BEST Ma Kent
>best Pa Kent
>Kino Lionel Luthor chewing scenery
>Somehow, best Hawkman
>Welling only rivaled by Reeve, didn't even have to don the goofy suit to sell Superman's most appealing qualities.
Smallville has alot more going for it than every on-screen version of Supes since
I recently watched the whole series and despite the goofy stuff where they have to not call him superman and not wear the suit even when he's functionally already Superman it was a great watch.
>Somehow, best Hawkman
I don't know about this, he was obviously ripping off Bale's Batman voice, it sounded so fake.
It was goofy, but compared to the Legends of Tomorrow and Shazam versions, I think he's decent.
This. I feel like Supergays care too much about costumes and not enough about the things that actually matter in good storytelling.
>Supergays care too much about costumes
There are endless discussions about live action suits especially when a new one is revealed. This is not exclusive to one fanbase or website, dummy.
>Good storytelling
>Smallville
Shit is watered down diet coke with abysmally corny acting. Just say no live action version comes close. They're all these homosexual introspective takes on Superman and moping around with internal conflicts. They'd never just do something based like a movie where he teams up with the Legion or goes to Bizarro world, or on an actual adventure.
>They'd never just do something based like a movie where he teams up with the Legion or goes to Bizarro world, or on an actual adventure.
Which Superman movie has done that?
Feels too similar to Kingdom Come Superman, feel like that should be reserved for more future stuff.
It's reverse Kingdom Come, it's going to be about a young hopeful Superman spreading his ideals to a jaded and cynical older superhero generation.
Zaslav while erasing Coyote vs ACME from existence:
Then it just becomes generic.
"Have you seen the Superman movie?" "Which one?" "Superman." "Yeah, which one?"
There's only one at a time
It’s easy to forget that the entire emblem is the shield/outline. It’s like if I wrote a capital I and you only acknowledged the top line and saw a capital T. Poor analogy but you get my meaning. Kryptonian writing is odd
Well yeah. I like Gunn, his work and how creative he can be. After the disaster that was Snyder's Superman, I hope James Gunn can make Superman inspiring again.
And it will be the first live appearance of Hawkgirl. So yeah, pretty hyped
So.... when this bombs like practically ever other super hero film done in the past couple years, do you think Warner will kill the DCEU entirely?
The DCEU is already dead. This is something different, stupid
>remove one letter from DCEU
g-guys it's the DCU not the DCEU, it's a totally different thing I swear
Correct, now you understand. Stupid. They might fail and kill this one, too, but it's different.
People need to actually raise their kids properly and go to church for that. A movie won't do shit
We as a people need Gunn's Superman to be a pop culture defining hit. It's the only chance we have in making a world ready to receive Christ.
