I miss it when Deadpool was at least a little serious. Tortured soul trying to be good, bad guy who wants to be loved.

Any newer stories that aren't just him killing people in mass and espousing dated memes?

Deadpool was great in the Duggan and Posehn run. Joe Kelly did him justice in Spidey/Deadpool.

We're just going to get well written Deadpool once, maybe twice a decade, along with an avalanche of garbage Deadpool. Could be worse.

Duggan/Posehn managed to take the running gag of period parody flashbacks to its zenith with a 90's Liefeld pastiche that then swerved into the most serious one of them all without missing a beat. I'm not sure you can really put it along side the classic runs, if only because of recency, but it felt like a genuinely good version of the character that kept a lot of what was appealing while being able to do something new with him too. A solid, respectable run for the character.

          Anonymous

This issue killed me because they kept the entire 90s Liefeld gimmick and never showed anyone's feet, obscuring them in smoke or off-panel. Then the second the flashback ends, the first thing we see is a pair of shoes.

no, the gimmick of being an butthole who talks a lot was there from day one and Marvel has just increased the obnoxiousness over time.

Deadpool was created as a parody of a DC character, it was inevitable he eventually be turned fully into a joke

      Anonymous

he wasn't a parody, a writer after Deadpool's first appearance noticed the similarities between Deadpool and Deathstroke and as a rib named the character Wade Wilson.
he may have been appropriated from unused Deathstroke designs however as Liefield before joining Marvel had pitched ideas for Teen Titans and you those idea to help create Youngblood, this is a common practice, Kraven's Last Hunt was originally pitched as a Batman story, the 1970's X-Men were rejected and retooled Legion of Superhero designs so on an so on.

        >Kraven's Last Hunt was originally pitched as a Batman story,

        what's legion of superhero?

          Anonymous

          >wait what
          yeah

It was originally originally a wonderman comic about wonderman being buried alive by the grim reaper but got rejected

Then, it morphed into a batman story about the joker burying batman, thinking he killed him and then going sane. But DC editorial thought it was too similar to the killing joke, so they rejected it.

Then, the guy who came up with the idea was approached by Marvel to take over spiderman, and he was finally able to make his "superhero buried alive" idea take off. They originally wanted a new villain, but they decided on Kraven.

To make the story hit harder, they took over all other spiderman comics running at the time, so no other stories would interfere.

Finally that guy got to release his buried alive fetish
But it really shows how creativity is only allowed in the medium, if it can be appropriated by the big 2's canon

how did they take over the other spidey comics? shut it down?

Likely just didn't release anything else for that month.

there were 3 spiderman books being published at the time I believe: Amazing, Spectacular, and Web of. Each of these usually had their own individual storylines. But, the story of Kraven's Last Hunt took over all of them, so spiderman's "death" was more impactful.

Moments like these are why I like Deadpool.

He has standards that others don't expect because of the way he acts. He's generally misunderstood, but he's not the type of person to correct them.

Sure, he isn't shining gold, but he's polishing what he's got.

Uncanny X-Force generally did a great job with Wade. Between this and Posehn's run it felt like the character was recovering from Waypool trash.

People are too stupid for critical thinking anymore. Everything has to be starkly black and white. You can't make a sympathetic villain. Racism, sexism, betterism are all evil aspcets of satan. Everyone is equal except in the ways they're different.

It’s cause media literacy, at this point, might as well be dead. It feels like writers literally need to have a disclaimer at the beginning just so that a bunch of teens or man children won’t go on to think they’re supporting the shit that they are writing about.

On the one hand, I know Deadpool is enough of a softie to not get kids involved in actual training exercises. On the other hand, he totally would let them horse around by beating the snot out of each other because he believes in Gabby that much. And Magik is 100% as much of a hypocritical b***h as usual.
