I was like that before because I felt the ingredients go to waste if I fail.
Then I realised the result doesn't really matter as long as it tastes good because I'm the only one eating it anyway.
Because if you follow a method to get perfect rice, and you follow it perfectly, you will get perfect rice. Objectively if a dish is prepared in the exact same way using the exact same ingredients, it will taste the same. Cooking IS a science, it's just that most people can't be so precise in their methods so they have to start treating it like an art form instead. Chefs can seethe all they want about "you gotta trust your senses and your feelings maaaan" but sooner or later machines will be able to reproduce the same Michelin star quality dish consistently by replicating the exact conditions required to make something taste a specific way.
I'm not European but I genuinely don't need one. I make perfect rice each time with a pot. Seems like an unnecessary purchase. I don't even think I have any storage space in my kitchen for a rice cooker anyway.
Sure, my point was these people do not have the high ground to talk shit.
Asians at least can, indeed, cook, Black folk on the other hand, are terrible fricking slobs when it comes to food. They eat fricking cornstarch, wash chicken with soap/bleach, drench everything in oil, "seasoning" to them means throwing a tone of generic MSG ridden blends on everything, and then they have the audacity to pretend Whites don's salt their food? Black person, you don't even have your own cuisine, "Soul food" is literally just White Southerner food that Black folk appropriated and made worse.
it's frankly embarrassing how proud asians are of their dependence on rice cookers
it's like if every time baking was mentioned online a bunch of white people chipped in "you can just buy bread at the store!!! that's what us bread-eaters do!"
>wash rice 3 times till somewhat clear >add water till slightly above rice >cover with tinfoil so steam doesnt escape >20 min cooking >10 min resting
perfect every time
dont even have to measure the water
just eyeball it
It probably is something archaic that you used to have to do. Inferior harvesting, storage, containers, pest control, etc. There might have been cases of the chinese slave caste getting ill from their meals. If you can’t tell the difference, why do it?
>I don't even bother washing rice anymore.
most food doesn't need to be washed. when you boil/cook it, it kills the bacteria. Black folk don't get this, and think washing chicken with soap is a good idea
But if you have a small diameter pot, just putting in enough to just cover the rice doesn't work. You'd not have enough water. Just do 2 parts to 1 part
Lol yeah he's completely wrong. I tried it with 1 part rice to 1.5 part water and all the water absorbed before the rice was soft, even on the lowest possible heat in the smallest ring with the lid on. You need 2 parts water
It's possible but yo make it easier, you need to put the rice in first and fry it with the oil and any aromatics you put in for a few minutes first and only then add the water. Cooking time also varies a lot using this method anywhere from 11 to 20 minutes depending on size of pot, type of stove, etc.
>take pot >fill it up the halfpoint with water >add a pinch of salt >wait till the water boils >drop the rice >wait for like, 10 minutes (depends on how tough you want it, taste it regularly) >drench the water from the rice >put olive oil (1 spoonful), a pinch of turmeric and a pinch of peepermint on the bottom of the pot, then put in the rice again and stir it for a minute until all the ingredients mix >enjoy the most delicious rice of all time
I fricking hate asians who treat rice like it's some kind of gift from god. And it's always the malaysians/aussies or whatever who never realize there is more than one way to cook rice.
Take this for example. According to asians this is the wrong way to cook rice. Then they drown their food in condiments and call white ppl food bland.
So afraid to season the pure white rice that farmer work so hard to get.
This is an Iranian recipe which I tweaked according to my own tastes. East Asians have no idea how to cook rice. They make it too soft and kind of spongy.
It was my best mate who's also chink told me about them, lots of different flavours of rice available, basmati, long grain, sticky, thai jasmine, and the crappy indian flavours too.
>oh me no chink >I rearn it from my best fren from CHINA >so many fravor >soooo ah-much beauty >soooo ah-much ah-powah!
Yes China will grow larger we know, here’s your (You)
you forgot the oil
it keeps the rice from sticking together
The fat from the oil cooks the rice
Meh, that’s about right. Was your rice undercooked or overcooked?
it was basically raw and stuck to the whole pan
basmati literally like the video
It sounds like you didn't boil the water.
What type of rice were you making? Some are thirstier kernels than others.
for me, its 1:2
This, and also use chicken stock (unless you want plain white rice)
Yep, same.
It really depends on the type of rice and how old the rice is. Can go from closer to 1:1 to 1:2.
why do people treat cooking and recipes like they're programmer code
I was like that before because I felt the ingredients go to waste if I fail.
Then I realised the result doesn't really matter as long as it tastes good because I'm the only one eating it anyway.
Because it makes changes in quantities easy to track.

thermomix was made for such soulless people
cooking is not a science moron, baking is
that's a right proportion in my experience
Why do euros refuse to buy a rice cooker?
I'm not European but I genuinely don't need one. I make perfect rice each time with a pot. Seems like an unnecessary purchase. I don't even think I have any storage space in my kitchen for a rice cooker anyway.
Because we can cook rice just fine.
>Hurr durr Whites can't cook rice/season their food
is literally just ignorant Asian incels and moronic Black folk coping. I saw some asiatic a month ago try to cook fricking bread in a rice cooker
You can cook bread in a rice cooker though. Baked a cake in one the other day, well, rice cookered a cake in one.
Sure, my point was these people do not have the high ground to talk shit.

I do two cups water per one cup rice with like a tbsp of butter. Cook it for about 23 minutes on medium high.
Here in the US South we don’t frick around with any homosexual measurements, we just put in a pinch of this and a pinch of that
>wash rice 3 times till somewhat clear
>add water till slightly above rice
>cover with tinfoil so steam doesnt escape
>20 min cooking
>10 min resting
perfect every time
dont even have to measure the water
just eyeball it
I don't even bother washing rice anymore. I don't notice a fricking bit of difference in the result.
I think I do
also chinks are masters of rice and they all do it
Yeah, they do but I'll ultimately only do something if I've found a tangible benefit to it and in my case haven't seen it.
It probably is something archaic that you used to have to do. Inferior harvesting, storage, containers, pest control, etc. There might have been cases of the chinese slave caste getting ill from their meals. If you can’t tell the difference, why do it?
>If you can’t tell the difference, why do it?
Exactly.
That’s why I add sawdust to my Rice Krispie treats
>I don't even bother washing rice anymore.
most food doesn't need to be washed. when you boil/cook it, it kills the bacteria. Black folk don't get this, and think washing chicken with soap is a good idea
Washing rice is more about removing starch as far as I'm aware but it still doesn't make enough of a difference to make it worthwhile imo.
As with most things, it depends on the rice and your own personal preferences. Some is starchier than others.
Idiot. You wash rice to get the starch out so you don't end up with a film covering your rice and sticking it all together.
>Not wanting to end up with a film in Cinemaphile
Well if I could watch the film I wouldn't wash the rice
But I can't watch the film. No watch, I wash, capiche?
But if you have a small diameter pot, just putting in enough to just cover the rice doesn't work. You'd not have enough water. Just do 2 parts to 1 part
I have pots of around 14 cm and it works fine
homie I want to eat the food ASAP, I ain't getting that shit ready for a bath and a nap
order ubereats for 20$ + service fee + tip + tax
Lol yeah he's completely wrong. I tried it with 1 part rice to 1.5 part water and all the water absorbed before the rice was soft, even on the lowest possible heat in the smallest ring with the lid on. You need 2 parts water

rice cooker and an air fryer is all you really need to be happy in life
I'd rather a pot and a pan tbh.
>Falling for the air fryer mem
It's just a small oven bruh
>It's just a small oven bruh
Yeah and that's why they're great.
Case closed, period.
Oil in boiling water isn't necessary
I do one part of rice to one part of water, it turns out kinda crispy and not to moist, it feels steamed, I love it.
>take pot
>fill it up the halfpoint with water
>add a pinch of salt
>wait till the water boils
>drop the rice
>wait for like, 10 minutes (depends on how tough you want it, taste it regularly)

I hate apricots
Me too, I just liked the way the rice looked in the picture.
They look like sultanas/raisins.
Looks delicious. I'm gonna try something like this with my rice cooker later.
