They get upset about EVERY change not matter how minor. They can't see how it erodes their own arguments and makes them come off and childish dorks. They treat the most outrageous, horrible changes (some of which ruined scenes and were embarrassingly bad) the same as minor, decent changes that added to the sci-fi atmosphere. Like this shot of cloud city's hallways? God forbid they want to show more off the beautiful cloud city sunset exterior, which was only not included in the original movie because it was cheaper and easier to run around an interior set.

the cloud city edits are shit because the cg background do not mesh in well at all with the original footage.
you watch these scenes in the special versions and it feels like you are watching one of the prequels with the OT super-imposed above it.

hmmm gotta say I like the special edition shot more. It better visualizes that Ben is a hermit by showing he lives in an area surrounded by nothing. Meanwhile, the original shot is much too claustrophobic and tells us his nothing about his surroundings.

In terms of cinematography: it would make more sense to make the sky look duller and grayer to convey the sense of Tattooine being an awful, miserable place to live in.

Because at a certain point in Georgie's life, I imagine sometime around his divorce from his wife he began to grow very bitter about life and Hollywood and any artistic integrity and creative impulse he had gave way to a purely financial one. George was a businessman more than he was a creative artist and ultimately he embraced that, he had a studio to grow and needing to do dumb shit like the Special Editions gave him that.
Visual spectacle is what grabs people's attention, he wanted more viewers more consumers to pay him for his works. That's all that mattered even if he sacrificed his artistry and craft for it.
