My friend from choir and I performed ‘Friends’ at our school talent show junior year of high school back in 2009 I think it was, just the two of us with guitars swapping back and forth between doing the backing “bum ba bum bum” vocals and singing the lyrics. Looking back now it was probably kind of cringe, we changed some of the names and the words in the song to make it more topical to our school but we made a lot of people laugh and it was a good time. That’s actually how I met the girl I would go on to date through that and senior year because she was a big FotC fan, that’s how we started talking afterwards
On paper It's not in any way funny. There's no jokes. It's just an aspy guy, his slightly normal friend and their bizarre manager having conversations that go nowhere. Plus it's a musical. That makes it even worse.

I was obsessed with the show for a while. Used to listen to the radio show on the bus to college and piss myself laughing. A lot of it is stuff that eventually ended up in the show though, so it is familiar
I rewatched the show last year and it didn't hit like it did the first time. I have used to 'Maybe if you squint your ears' line when the opportunity presents itself for about a decade now though and it always gets a huge laugh. The bit that made me laugh the most on my rewatch though, was when Jermaine meets that Aussie lass and she tells him to say 'when' for milk while making him a tea with cereal milk. Shit broke me.
