>I’m a strong believer that when it’s not in the movie, it’s dead
Jesus christ Denis you pretentious fricking frog. Both Dunc films are prime for extended cuts or even one long movie edit. Just fricking do it and stop acting like the movie run time was your decision to save face for the ~~*executives*~~
>I decided right at the beginning that I was making a Bene Gesserit adaptation. That meant that Mentats are not as present as they should be, but it’s the nature of the adaptation
Well, Villeneuve had a decision to make between including interesting characters and their plotlines, and including gratuitous capeshit-tier battle scenes. Not that hard a decision when you're a complete hack.
He was (unknowingly) poisoned and was secretly administered antidote, towards the end of the book this is no longer the case so he simply succumbs to the poison

is Dune any different from shönen manga? I'm rewatching early seasons of Bleach right now and it seems about the same. Just a lot of nonsense and exposition for an excuse to see cool shit happen. Except Dune was fricking ugly and nothing cool really happened. Even the worms were a disappointment, and by the end they felt like Pokémon.
Was he even in Dune Part One? I tried to keep it to shit that was established, even in a minor degree, and then just completely forgotten. I get the need to edit out content and alter sequences, that's the entire point of adapting. But it's like Dennis The Menace hasn't even read Dune, or understood what the frick was happening or why. Then he just slapped together a screenplay over a weekend, or worse, actually dedicated months if not years to this script. And it's complete, utter nonsense. Now he intends to adapt Messiah, or more likely do a moronic combination movie, half Messiah half God Emperor. But that shit can't retroactively fix Part One/Two.
Goddamn, he's got enough sense to direct, it's a shame somebody convinced him he could write.
Is anime just a lame pastiche of actually great and revolutionary Western works? Everything about is peak schlock/slop. People say it's based but not from where I'm standing. i'd rather watch good old western media than settle for Japanese slop.
No, it couldn't have. It's slop for teenagers to obsess over and pay for merchandise of, man. It was never going to end in the 'guy genocides eveyone and that's it' ending. This is still slop for teenagers.
>It was never going to end in the 'guy genocides eveyone and that's it' ending.
Yes it was. That's what the entire story was building towards, to lay out exactly why the main character was going to destroy the world and why he was right to do so. Then the author cucked out.

>I feel like he just baited you all intentionally, he didn't 'cuck out'
If that was true, he would have had prepared some way to prove the main character wrong, or at least have one of his opponents give a coherent argument for why he was incorrect. But this never happens. In fact nobody in the story even attempts to refute the given rationale for his decision. >it got people talking and got the pseuds who watch this crap to prop his series up more leading to more sales and more MONEY
Going with the obvious originally intended ending would have cemented the manga as a masterpiece. Instead it became a global laughing stock and the 4th season of the anime did much more poorly than it otherwise would have.

Always has been anon, how many anime were created because some japon read a western classic and had his genetic imperative to copy take over, I mean heck, Bram Stoker's Dracula alone has like 3 anime continuations.
Reference to how Gurney "kills" Paul during their training in Part One, and then Paul is later stabbed by Feyd in the exact same manner, proving that he's ultimately learned nothing, but also has the plot armor of Jesus, despite being fake Jesus, or just Jesus.
>shönen manga?
Cinemaphile gay right here. The answer is no, power escalation is a weirdly shonen aspect of Frank's writing that never leaves the series, and I would argue is a core aspect of Dune's identity.
It's been said hundreds of fricking times that the shields don't just attract the worms - they send him into an immense rage and makes them far more aggressive. It's better to attract a worm just checking out the area then one bull rushing to your location in a few minutes.
So when a worm bull rushes your harvester he's not angry? What the frick happens when they detect a shield then?
Forgive me for misunderstanding, but the portrayal of the scene where the worm "just checks out" the Atreides harvester is aggressive as frick, and all characters mention it as such, in the book as well as both adaptations. So exactly what makes the shield aggression different?
Speed. The reason they are able to harvest the spice is because the worms (relatively) take their time when traveling to destroy the harvesters.
You kinda sound like a moron to fail to understand that animals move faster depending on the stimulus. Does a dog move faster chasing a ball or rabbit?
>Denny kinda forgot that lasers cause a nuclear explosion on impact with shields
Did you miss the ENTIRE scene where Paul and Chani had to shoot rockets at the hover bug craft (baiting them to lower their shields) BEFORE they fire any lasers?
Paul baits the thopter to lower its shields so the rocket can penetrate the shields, not so a laser can. After the pointless ground assault, including the aforementioned sequence, the Fremen on the high ground, who the singular scout thopter somehow didn't notice approaching for miles while slowly sand skipping, are the ones who fired the laser, and it was at the harvester, because those don't have shields for some reason. Coincidentally the thopter didn't notice the stupid ass Fremen regiment that buried themselves in the sand.
You sure you didn't fall asleep? I can't say I would blame you. The movie was fricking boring.
>Coincidentally the thopter didn't notice the stupid ass Fremen regiment that buried themselves in the sand.
I was so confused by this fricking scene, how long were they waiting in some random sand for a crawler? It had to be ages since any moron would have spotted them at distance.
>Denny kinda forgot about Alia
He just found a different way of using her so he wouldn't have to deal with the stupid visual of a toddler doing jujitsu.
Eh, maybe. I can't say I'm that offended by it, but it's a part of a larger problem because it ties into the storyline being nonsensically condensed into what feels like two months. Also Jessica effectively doesn't appear in Part Two because of this, and Alia was the best part of Lynch's Dune, even though her appearance made no sense and went largely unexplained, like most elements, but he still made it work by having her just use the Voice. This absence just felt like something that could have been done better, and the way it ended up being done just felt like watching somebody skirting around the fear of adapting something they otherwise claim to love and want to see realized on screen.
And at the same time he just confused the hell out of general audiences with the future Alia cameo. So basically, what the frick, Dennis?
probably bait, but the shields/slowknife are simply to keep close combat relevant, it's fine if shields simply make guns irrelevant rather than have a consequence like a nuclear reaction
This guy is great at playing theatre teacher types and that’s about it. I didn’t really buy him as a human computer in the military on a dangerous planet.
To simp for vanilla-nova is to expose yourself as an inferior - more chattle than a true human, really. In a just and civilized era, villain-Black person simps would be enslaved and used for the sport of real people. We people are marked by our appreciation of the Lynch adaption of Herbert's work. Compare the 2024 Baron's death to 1984's. One is contrived, generic, and faux-artistic, whereas the Baron's death in 1984 actually IS art. Exquisite, understated, powerful, iconic, and a visual feast worthy of any pre-Raphaelite canvas. To simp for frickernova marks you as what you truly are: inhuman, someone that deserves to be enslaved and used as chattle by an actual person like me
Paul is insufferable in the series from the moment it starts.
>Paul is insufferable in the series from the moment it starts.
Yeah, he is kind of bratty. I also think eople dismiss the series because of its visuals....
Leto is great there, I didn't really like Oscar Isaac as Leto in Dunc except for that he looked the part. His delivery and writing didn't fit the character....but I feel the same with Chalamet's Paul, so....
I haven't seen DUNC 2, is Jessica's pregnancy and daughter even in there? Is Paul and Chani's little boy in there? Do they even show it's been 4-5 years or it all happens in 2 week?
>no alia
was looking forward to how he'd handle the challenge her character brings, but figured he'd take some kind of cgi, psychic route when there was no casting by summer
Would've liked to see an attempt but then he'd have to end part 1 at the spice orgy to give it time
Alia is a fetus apart from one scene.
Leto doesn't appear.
Movie starts hours after the first movie, they are still carrying Jamis back to Sietch Tabr.
The 2nd movie happens in maybe just a few months. Jessica is still pregnant at the end though more pregnant than she was at the start. So maybe 5 months instead of 5 years.
>is Jessica's pregnancy and daughter even in there?
we only hear jessica's side of the diaglogue when she speaks to alia, alia is never born in the movie and paul kills the baron >Is Paul and Chani's little boy in there?
no and neither is harah and her kids, chani's a total b***h too >Do they even show it's been 4-5 years or it all happens in 2 week?
like 4 months max

>literal who character that commits honorable sudoku because "OMG i worked for another government after you were presumed dead SHAMFUR DISPRAY"
who cares?
I'm so upset that we never got that 26/27 hour long epic or whatever it was, that i swore never to watch any Dune movies because nothing could cope with the scope necessary to accurately portray the book.
So my thoughts wanders back to the imagination of mine that brought the book alive. It was a truly grand and mystical experience to read.
He did the Book dirty.
It's twice as long as the original movie and yet manages to tell less of the story and changes more of it.
He dumbed down Dune so it was palatable for the masses.
I don't understand why everyone was so hyped about DUNC.
I liked the book but it wasn't that special.
I liked the Lynch Dune and I FRICKING HATE Lynch.
However Villabonobos Part 1 was so fricking boring, it was all about aesthetics yet it felt bland and uninspiring.
Besides one of the points of the book was Paul fighing fate, his visions always tried to make him Jihad through the galaxy but in the end he takes the throne quite peacefully.
also too many Black folk
>I liked the book but it wasn't that special.
Someone made a post putting into context why Dune has the status it has, i.e. it came out in the 60's, pre-Trek pre-SW pre-whatever the frick, so for it's time it was incredibly creative and unique and that uniqueness is now lost on the generations since then because we have been exposed to 60 or so years of sci-fi heavily inspired by Dune.
I understand cutting his character down because it didn't fit the the movie format, but if that's the case, then why include him at all? That assassin/spy plot went nowhere in the first part of Dune. They should have just axed it and gave Gurney or Duncan his role.
Darwi Odrade is the best character in the Dune universe. Miles Teg is interesting despite being a hyper-competant and the universe being similar but different (having a few millenia of political and cultural changes but some old vestiges still laying around) was neat.
If you already read God Emperor, there is nothing in the later books that is particularly odd or different.
>Alma Mavis Taraza, Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit, commanded the very talented Reverend Mother Lucilla, to sexually imprint the twelfth ghola of Duncan Idaho that the Sisterhood bought from the Tleilaxu.
lmao what was frank herberts obsession with duncan idaho?
Reminder that Frank Herbert was an enormous pro-eugenicist femdom fetishist, to the point of even disowning his son for being gay, or "an evolutionary dead end", lmao.
His other son? Went on to rape his books the moment he kicked the bucket. Did you disown the correct child Frank?
He was instrumental in the book. The entire final confrontation between Paul and the Emperor, happened because Thufir played the Baron against Rabban, and without any Harkonnen support, Rabban lost bad and the emperor had to get involved personally. And if the espionage subplot had been kept, then Thufir would have been the reason for Paul to drink the water of life. His involvement got the awakened Paul to face off against the emperor, and his sacrifice was a memorable scene. His character deserved better. And all of this could have been done with just 5 minutes or so of screen time.
>And all of this could have been done with just 5 minutes or so of screen time
but then we wouldnt have all those great scenes of zendaya scowling or her talking to her namelesss female friend
Not only that, but Dave cleary had gotten fatter in the two years between the movies, and he kept doing that dumb Drax surprised face. Him doing a slow jog away from an attack, getting humiliated by Feyd, and getting literally one shot, was laughable. Especially since Part 1 tried to build him up as the powerhouse of his house.
>Fremen are the best fighters in the universe!
Why? >Because of the desert!
Why does being in the desert make you a good martial fighter? Better than the Sardukah who train for decades? >Desert power!
The Southern Fremen didn't even fight Harkonen, so how were they good fighters?
It's a question you Black person, I read the book years ago I can't remember the exact sentence in the book that says >The reason the Fremen are the best martial fighters in the known universe is...
Stop being such an argumentative homosexual
They ingest spice their wholes lives, and there's obvious benefits to having a level of prescience in combat. Combine that with a Spartan culture that demands capability for violence and little social coddling and you have a very warlike people who are talented in combat.
They are good fighters because they literally studied the blade (crysknife) while you were out, lacking in water-discipline and wasting precious moisture by having sex.
In all honesty, they were decent fighters because that's all they did and their arguments were more often than not solved with a stabbing. Jessica also taught them how to fight Bene Gesserit style. Also, no shields on Dune (at least not in the open desert)
>their arguments were more often than not solved with a stabbing.
that was also a weakness and one which paul corrected when he convinced them that he didn't have to kill stilgar to assume a position of power.
Denis just sort of... forgot about Thufir.
Ah, I see he went to the same film school as D&D.
nah you missed the twist. He was the Emperor's daughter the whole time.
Worse, he shot the scenes along with the ones with Count Fenring, but he didn't include it

what the frick is up with the kino music
Some great music in the old one
Journey did the entire soundtrack
TOTO
Why did he kill himself, just from the shame of even having considered killing paul?
Because he would never betray the Atreides no matter the Harkonnens conditioning
in the books didnt a sardarkaur kill him with a throwing knife?
Nah, he died from a broken heart.
He was (unknowingly) poisoned and was secretly administered antidote, towards the end of the book this is no longer the case so he simply succumbs to the poison

Pick one.
I haven't seen DUNC 2, is Jessica's pregnancy and daughter even in there? Is Paul and Chani's little boy in there? Do they even show it's been 4-5 years or it all happens in 2 week?
2 weeks, no alia, no leto 2, no navigators, chani character is botched. Save your money
>no alia,
You didn't watch the movie
You didnt read the book, moron. The movie only has Fetus and a vision, thats not even close to what sholdve been
>no alia
was looking forward to how he'd handle the challenge her character brings, but figured he'd take some kind of cgi, psychic route when there was no casting by summer
Would've liked to see an attempt but then he'd have to end part 1 at the spice orgy to give it time
>no spice orgy
>no navigators
How is this a bad thing? There are no navigators in the first book either.
Anon...
Who do you think flew them to Arak?
Space uber
Alia is a fetus apart from one scene.
Leto doesn't appear.
Movie starts hours after the first movie, they are still carrying Jamis back to Sietch Tabr.
The 2nd movie happens in maybe just a few months. Jessica is still pregnant at the end though more pregnant than she was at the start. So maybe 5 months instead of 5 years.
>is Jessica's pregnancy and daughter even in there?
we only hear jessica's side of the diaglogue when she speaks to alia, alia is never born in the movie and paul kills the baron
>Is Paul and Chani's little boy in there?
no and neither is harah and her kids, chani's a total b***h too
>Do they even show it's been 4-5 years or it all happens in 2 week?
like 4 months max
But why? This is moronic.
Too difficult to cast I guess. Not many child actors would be able to pull off the speech and manerisms of an adult convincingly
Alia is in Paul's vision when he drinks the worm period
Alia has a line in the womb
>Mother what’s happening?
It’s only one but there is one
>no imax cut
>no director's cut
What's his fricking problem
How did he frick it up so badly after part 1 was so good bros?
>part 1 was so good
was it?
>was it?
Yes
A lotta dainty ballerina twirls in these space war dramas.
Part 1 sucked. Part 2 was the good one
They both sucked
Your mom sucks
You both suck
Have twice the time as Lynch with half the content.
>Scenes were shot
>Not included for some reason
should have shot monkey girl in the head instead and left her for DA WURMS
>literal who character that commits honorable sudoku because "OMG i worked for another government after you were presumed dead SHAMFUR DISPRAY"
who cares?
>literal shitposting chudcel virgin poster that's such a pussy he's too scared to even wear the wiener cage he was born to adorn
why do you even bother?
how did you get that information?
i recognized your posting style from discord. don't worry, I am not going to dox you. but, i will probably end up fricking you.
there's a story here I'm missing
It's just schizos and autists not worth worrying about
I'm so upset that we never got that 26/27 hour long epic or whatever it was, that i swore never to watch any Dune movies because nothing could cope with the scope necessary to accurately portray the book.
So my thoughts wanders back to the imagination of mine that brought the book alive. It was a truly grand and mystical experience to read.
How many servants did the Harkonnens comically evilly kill in part 2
I counted like 8
I can only think of about five of them
Thurfir 404'd
He did the Book dirty.
It's twice as long as the original movie and yet manages to tell less of the story and changes more of it.
He dumbed down Dune so it was palatable for the masses.
He told more of one very particular aspect of the story, which was Paul's time with the sand Black folk
Check the system
I don't understand why everyone was so hyped about DUNC.
I liked the book but it wasn't that special.
I liked the Lynch Dune and I FRICKING HATE Lynch.
However Villabonobos Part 1 was so fricking boring, it was all about aesthetics yet it felt bland and uninspiring.
Besides one of the points of the book was Paul fighing fate, his visions always tried to make him Jihad through the galaxy but in the end he takes the throne quite peacefully.
also too many Black folk
>I liked the book but it wasn't that special.
Someone made a post putting into context why Dune has the status it has, i.e. it came out in the 60's, pre-Trek pre-SW pre-whatever the frick, so for it's time it was incredibly creative and unique and that uniqueness is now lost on the generations since then because we have been exposed to 60 or so years of sci-fi heavily inspired by Dune.
>nIGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>Your name is a killing word
Is this a French edit? I don't remember that mustache.
I understand cutting his character down because it didn't fit the the movie format, but if that's the case, then why include him at all? That assassin/spy plot went nowhere in the first part of Dune. They should have just axed it and gave Gurney or Duncan his role.
dune is a really stupid story lol
is there a dune fan edit where all the deleted scenes are included? spicediver cut misses a lot of deleted scenes
We're safe. The Harkonnens cannot win because 1x1=2.
Next time, my Duke.
Bookgays, should I bother with Heretics and Chapterhouse?
Darwi Odrade is the best character in the Dune universe. Miles Teg is interesting despite being a hyper-competant and the universe being similar but different (having a few millenia of political and cultural changes but some old vestiges still laying around) was neat.
If you already read God Emperor, there is nothing in the later books that is particularly odd or different.
Maybe.
how hot is that Lucilla character described? and which hollywood / euro bawd would you cast as her?
>Alma Mavis Taraza, Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit, commanded the very talented Reverend Mother Lucilla, to sexually imprint the twelfth ghola of Duncan Idaho that the Sisterhood bought from the Tleilaxu.
lmao what was frank herberts obsession with duncan idaho?
He's too good at sex.
I always pictured her as an Eva Green type
Reminder that Frank Herbert was an enormous pro-eugenicist femdom fetishist, to the point of even disowning his son for being gay, or "an evolutionary dead end", lmao.
His other son? Went on to rape his books the moment he kicked the bucket. Did you disown the correct child Frank?
He also thought an army consisting of men would never not inevitably end up becoming sadistic and homoerotic, as men are inherently gay or something.
This is why the god-emperor's army consists entirely of women. "Women would never abuse power or commit an act of rape. Never.".
Women have no penises and no willpower, therefore they cannot rape.
Is this real facts?
Yes 100% I will always bring it up whenever it suits me. Authors of big books are always hilarious.
The entire conspiracy plot was scrapped in the first movie so what was left for him to do?
Or they could have just cut that 7 minute scene of Rabban going after the Fremen and getting chased off.
and slowly running a way lmao that was such a b***h run
Not only that, but Dave cleary had gotten fatter in the two years between the movies, and he kept doing that dumb Drax surprised face. Him doing a slow jog away from an attack, getting humiliated by Feyd, and getting literally one shot, was laughable. Especially since Part 1 tried to build him up as the powerhouse of his house.
What the frick are Bene Gesserit even doing and why does anybody care? Like why does The Baron not just kill the old hag? I don't get it.
>Atreides loses because they a let an old Black person do all their math for them off the top of his head
How did dennis get away with this?
Dune 2 is probably the loudest movie I've seen in a movie theatre. I mean that in a good way.
Thufir is insufferable in the book. I don't know if Herbet wrote him to be funny because he seems like a douchebag.
Read the book before trying to dig up plot holes like a CinemaSins homosexual
It's a question you Black person, I read the book years ago I can't remember the exact sentence in the book that says
>The reason the Fremen are the best martial fighters in the known universe is...
Stop being such an argumentative homosexual
They ingest spice their wholes lives, and there's obvious benefits to having a level of prescience in combat. Combine that with a Spartan culture that demands capability for violence and little social coddling and you have a very warlike people who are talented in combat.
Thank you
They are good fighters because they literally studied the blade (crysknife) while you were out, lacking in water-discipline and wasting precious moisture by having sex.
In all honesty, they were decent fighters because that's all they did and their arguments were more often than not solved with a stabbing. Jessica also taught them how to fight Bene Gesserit style. Also, no shields on Dune (at least not in the open desert)
>their arguments were more often than not solved with a stabbing.
that was also a weakness and one which paul corrected when he convinced them that he didn't have to kill stilgar to assume a position of power.
it's a tougher planet and with tougher training, the fremen are sophisticated and naturally enhanced by the spice
Thufir homiewat.
James Earl Jones if he was an albino.
