Tony was a terrible boss who ended up potentially destroying the DiMeo crime family, or at least severely weakening it to the state that ended up with his administration and him getting whacked because of it.
>Killing Patsy's brother was unnecessary, and created tension down the line
>Chrissie was promoted too fast and not mentored properly at all
>Detective Vin told him that Pussy was a rat and wearing the wire, and Tony basically did nothing about it for over a year
>Flying off the handle and killin Ralph, fostering resentment among the ranks
>Literally everything to do with Tony B was mishandled
>Tony's stupidity in refusing to see the obvious signs that Junior had dementia/alzheimers
>Letting Phil whack Vito in a grotesque manner was unacceptable.
>Selling a reliable source of income for Patsy, for a chance of some real estate cooze, further antagonizing him
Yeah I’m torn about this because he does win a lot though
>terrible boss
In a terrible outdated system. He was pragmatic in a lot of ways against the old school mob autism
The most pragmatic, true modern-day mobster in the whole cast of characters was Ralphie, who consciously only observes the Mafia code and social niceties to the extent that it benefits him, but without crossing a line where he can be called out on it. Tony, while being nostalgic for "the good old days", constantly breaks the established rules because of his emotions and purely petty reasons. Old school mob autism was represented by Ritche and Phil who thought that being autistic about the Mafia rules would cover for them being vindictive and short-tempered, which ended up with both of them getting whacked.
Yeah real pragmatic how he hid behind mob rules to try and get away with killing an important prostitute the boss had an (admittedly selfish and corrupt) father relationship to, which eventually was involved in why Tony killed him
Yet somehow Tony's own consigliere and his capos all agreed that Tony was out of line in the situation, and not Ralph
>important
>prostitute
She. Was. A. Hooah.
tony kept her at a distance deliberately, he didn't have a father relationship to her but he did see in her youth how under different circumstances she could easily have been Meadow.
Chaas could not have hammered those parallels between meadow and tracee harder unless he had an extremely out of place scene where meadow literally morphs into tracee for a brief moment in his kitchen on thanksgiving
BRAVO CHASE
Wasn't Tracee supposed to appear in the dream sequence episode in S5 with her switching places with Meadow during the bit where Tony dreams of him meeting Finn's parents (one of which, due to the dream sequence nature of the scene, was Annette Benning?)
Yes. When Chase was writing the episode, the plan was for a bit where during the dream sequence meeting of Tony and his family and Finn's family was going to be Meadow and AJ's actors being switched out with the stripper and Christopher to serve as a metaphor for how Tony saw them as dopplegangers of his own flesh and blood kids and how he treated them as such.
Which is why it’s a damaged and corrupt father relationship, he has this real sense of care for her and she does come to him for advice and bringing him baked goods and shit, and he enforces the fact he doesn’t give a frick because it’s his job to treat needy girls on his team like the prostitutes they technically are
>He was pragmatic in a lot of ways against the old school mob autism
He was a self-serving hypocrite who constantly killed or sold out his best guys at the slightest notion of inconvenience
>killed Ralphie over nothing
>kicked Vito out and left him for the wolves
>killed Chris, who despite his shortcomings was his best shooter after Furio
>treated Gene like shit driving him to suicide
Tony was ever "pragmatic" in delaying the consequences of his own terrible decision-making, which multiple people called him out on
>ralphiegay
Argument dismissed on a count of him taking it up the ass
mommy's little whua!
Is this gayer than letting a twink blow you when you're drunk?
>I dont like that talk
Its not gay if a girl plays with your shit hole
Seems gayer to be pegged by a dildo than to get your dick sucked
All comes down to who is doing what to you
I don't see it that way
Well if you have a disasgreeing opinion, you're stupid and i hate you. Thats how we treat eachother now right?
Chris should have been killed 10 times over considering how much he fricked up. homosexual had 9 lives because he was Tony's favourite.
this. Tony had a huge soft spot for Chris and even more for Artie. Tony siding with a civilian over a made guy in a dispute was a huge breach of protocol. Benny has a legit beef with Tony.
Gene like shit driving him to suicide
And if he had treated him right, he would've left for Florida, and gotten out of the mob life.
He would've still kicked up to Tony from whatever stuff he would've inevitably had started doing there. Florida was the designated "we're putting this guy on a shelf, but he's still under us" state for all the East Coast families for decades. Tony was just a greedy frick and wanted Gene's whole bag.
>Tony was just a greedy frick and wanted Gene's whole bag.
You misinterpreted that completely. Tony had lost a lot of guys by that point, his "family" (glorified crew) had shrunk dramatically by that point in the show. He just wanted Gene since he was one of the last competent guys he had left.
>He just wanted Gene since he was one of the last competent guys he had left.
Sure, but outside that, Tony was shown through the whole series to be a greedy frick who hides money from both his family and his associates.
he was a rat theres no way he was getting out of the mafia
He wouldn't have been able to leave anyway, the FBI wanted him in Jersey.
Gene was caught by the feds already so i wouldn't blame him for that one. What are you just supposed to let someone leave your crime family because he asked you nicely?
>kicked Vito out and left him for the wolves
he eventually decided he was actually going to have Carlo whack him, but Phil jumped in front (and broke rules whacking someone else's captain without permission)
his indeciveness on what should have been a clear "he's gotta go" did cause that though.
but Vito getting whacked was the actual correct call, no gays allowed.
>killed Chris, who despite his shortcomings was his best shooter after Furio
Chris should have been whacked after the Bing incident when he pointed a gun at the boss in front of everybody.
>treated Gene like shit driving him to suicide
Gene swore an oath, and he broke that oath (remember he was a rat which was half of what drove him there)
>his indeciveness on what should have been a clear "he's gotta go" did cause that though.
In the show, the loudest party in favor of killing Vito were Carlo and Paulie - the "old timers". Patsy and Bobby were opposed to that, and the rest were just hyped up by the revelation. Tony should've just committed to either decision: either tell Phil he’s not doing it, and banish Vito to Atlantic City, or do it right away. But he prolonged that to the detriment of everyone.
Outside the context of the show, Vito was based on a real guy from the DeCavalcante family in New Jersey. Only he wasn't a capo, but a full underboss. Sammy the Bull claims to have known him IRL, and said the way they did it was all fricked up, since the story about him being bisexual came from some hooker, and was never corroborated by any made man or even an associate. He said that the guy who brought the story just wanted to take over the Real Vito's rackets and underboss seat.
Sammy also said if he was the one to make the call, he'd put the guy on a shelf in another state away from the main family, and that'd be enough, but i think that's just him trying to seem benevolent and noble his audience.
Must've been catching, the mentioned on the show that some guys pitch while in prison
>the DiMeo crime family
it was a glorified crew
It's a badly written show for moronic gays
and what do you think is well written, mad men? lmao
You think Sopranos is well written? LMAO
Yeah
Yes
Chrissy had to frick up multiple times before Tony stopped relying on him and acted like a b***h about Paulie getting his fairly earned dues. Ralph was extremely out of line by killing a Bada Bing stripper and should be considered lucky to have lived as long as he did. Blundetto fricked up by getting injured during his freelance hit, showing that he was still rusty from prison and should have stayed strictly under Tony's wing for a while longer.
>Ralph was extremely out of line by killing a Bada Bing stripper and should be considered lucky to have lived as long as he did.
It was immediately negated by Tony putting hands on him in an unbecoming emotional outburst. Sil's councel was heartless, but completely true to the Mafia code: she wasn't related to Tony, and he didn't even have any claims to her. Tony could've taxed him, but he had no grounds to physically accost him.
committing a murder on the property of a front business is some truly reckless bullshit. Mafia code won't help much when your clean money starts getting looked into.
She was quite literally a prostitute who he hit him and Ralph was completely in the right. It was literally spelled out in the show.
He wasn't COMPLETELY in the right. He was disrespecting the business doing it on property. There's a right and a wrong way to go about these things. There's also the fact that Sil needs to be compensated as he did own her.
The right way would have been for Ralphie to talk to Sil in private and let him know she hit him, and as she hit a made guy she needs to go. Then he'd make some kind of payment to Sil for the lost revenue, and they'd set it up so she'd get driven to some place in the woods or something and do her there.
Missing how Tony drove Chrissy to be a frickup
Well, yea. Tony being a powerhungry self obsessed narcissistic sociopath and how it led to his downfall is the entire point of the show. It basically portrays the rise and fall of the roman empire.
Why do you absolute morons actually merit these characters based on their ability to follow mob rules? It’s like you actually respect these rules like an idiot while watching a show all about how they’re all horseshit and don’t work when even used properly
You’re a brainlet and you got filtered
>Killing Patsy's brother was unnecessary, and created tension down the line
Tony was just installed as boss, and Spoons was already talking mad shit about him and questioning his authority. It was absolutely the right call to make.
yeah Spoons hit was necessary.
I keep seeing this Reddit take about Tony being a terrible boss but he was clearly the best of bad bunch. Being boss and not getting killed or imprisoned for eight years isn't bad going for a 21st century don. Let's have a look at the alternatives:
Raymond: rat, and didn't want the responsibility anyway
Silvio: didn't want it and was shown to be a disaster when he was briefly acting boss
Junior: even as boss-in-name-only he had all the captains hating his guts within a few months
Ritchie: Hot head, not respected
Paulie: lol
Larry: in and out of jail, on house arrest most of the show
Patsy/Bobby: I'll lump these together because they have the same flaws - both relatively level-headed and reasonable but too weak to handle real responsibility. Being the 'nicest guys' on the crew doesn't make them boss material.
Ralph would have been a good boss but just like with Johnny Sac his mouth and attitude would have soured his relationships with everyone.
Who else is there?
Chris was a perpetual frickup.
Vito I guess would have been a good boss but god was he a fricking terrible decision maker.
You know what, Albert Barese should have been boss he was a high earner and kept quiet, he was a high earner and kept quiet.
>Ralph would have been a good boss
>hothead who gets high on coke and does unnecessary violence at their front business
>good boss
no
After his kid became a vegetable he was starting to change. Whether or not those changes would stick, what do i know
He was the highest earning and smartest mobster by far, he knew how to skirt the rules and play things to his advantage.
Johnny Sac and Silvio both told Tony that Ralph was right about Tracee and during his conflict with Johnny Sac, Carmine sided with Ralph as well.
It's almost like that whole pygmy thing in Jersey was a glorified crew.
(Really Carmine Sr was the only good boss in the show, both Johnny and Phil let personal shit get in the way of business)
Johnny barely got to be boss but he was pragmatic, he sided against Phil on the racetrack but made Tony pay for his car damages for example.
Johnny almost got himself whacked carrying a beef over a fat joke way too far even after his boss explicitly told him to name a figure and accept it.
Johnny was in the right
no Carmine was in the right.
I think the point is that no man-made order or set of rules will prevent you from accruing sin and the wages of that sin. You can be a professional killer all you like and follow all the rules and even be pragmatic and smart about breaking them when it makes sense, but you’re still out there killing and inviting the problems that caused from both people and the universe against you
I wouldn't say he was horrible, but he was certainly flawed. He fundamentally hated seeing his peer's better themselves which lead to a lot of animosity.
>Ralph tried to change his life around after his son gets hit by the arrow
>Janice having therapy to control her anger
He was the best of the bunch but his incredible greed and inability to feel contempt with anything made him an incredibly flawed boss.
I had this argument with this guy I know and we was arguing that Tony is the best boss in any piece of mafia, which I argued the best would be Vito Corleone for obvious reasons. Do you people just watch this show like morons and completely ignore all of the atrocities Tony commits not to just citizens but also the people directly around him?
Well Vito is a sheer fantasy and a puff piece Mary Sue
Hahaha you would never understand the mind of a mafioso. If you were a boss you’d be whacked months into your reign. You’re a joke.
ayyy ohhhhh maron look at the wiseguy understand ova here, gabagool!
Ehhhh forgeddibouddit it’s the tony danza show my mudda was a saint gabagool it melta in ya mouth madone. When ya here ya family eh?
please don't post that disgusting moor again
They should call him Anthony Groomia or sumptin
Its moops you simpleton
You've left out so many key details it's tiresome at this stage to even respond.
For starters, Tony did investiage Pussy and found the corrupt cop owed money to him. It became a battle of he said she said.
>It became a battle of he said she said.
Yet it turned out that Vin was completely right, and the whole money thing was a cope that Tony sat on to deny reality and not do the due diligence on Pussy for a YEAR he was wired up. Then it came to him in a dream. That's not good leadership.
did you even watch the show? the dimeo family was already finished when it started
Yeah no shit, turns out most mobsters really are incompetent morons and being good at killing people doesn't actually make you a good leader.
I guess crime doesnt pay
ralph deserved it
Paulie was his half measure. Gene was proof he was slippin
discord.gg/dcf
He was bad but he was also dealt somewhat of a shitty hand due to being a Jersey boss. Some of the New York guys were also awful
Damn I forgot about Feech, granted he was in prison until season 5 but he would have been my choice for boss, I don't mind his stories.
Feech was Richie but with actually having the respect of the guys(except Paulie)
True, Jackie was probably a much better boss.
is this supposed to be a controversial reading of the events of the show
the show starts with him surrounded by friends, by the end power tripping and anger tantrums have turned everyone against him or resulted in their deaths.
theyre all emotionally toddlers, but tony was the toddler with the biggest gun
Patsy's brother was unnecessary, and created tension down the line
He was loyal to junior and tony was fighting a civil war
>Chrissie was promoted too fast and not mentored properly at all
Chis was a Black person and didn't deserve any of the wealth or power or women he got in the show
>Detective Vin told him that Pussy was a rat and wearing the wire, and Tony basically did nothing about it for over a year
They say multiple times Tony has known pussy his entire life. You can't blame him for not wanting to kill an old friend.
>Flying off the handle and killin Ralph, fostering resentment among the ranks
Ralphie was a moron and a liability and was given 3rd and 4th chances. He would have no doubt caused more trouble later
>Literally everything to do with Tony B was mishandled
He couldn't have stopped Tony B from taking contract work outside the family. Tony B should have known better than work for other families.
>Letting Phil whack Vito in a grotesque manner was unacceptable.
The show made it look like Tony was going to let Vito off, but it was pretty obvious the political pressure of keeping Vito was too much. He could have really only kept him if Tony was planning on going to war with NY.
>Selling a reliable source of income for Patsy, for a chance of some real estate cooze, further antagonizing him
Bad financial decision, Tony thinking with his dick again
