if the show was titled Carcosa or something EXPLICITLY to S1 then you have a point but True Detective is a pretty generic and open-ended title.

"true detective" was a story that was told with the first series.

i know congooner brains have been contorted by corpo conditioning to the point that "stories" are now referred to as "franchises", but if some gaggle of DEI morons in the valley start putting together a "king lear 2: queen lear" even zoomie clickdrone spastics know it's got nothing to do with shakespeare. it's the same with lord of the rings, it's the same with star wars.

just because some corp owns the "true detective" copywrite doesn't mean that it supplants the entire creative foundation of authorship. i'm sure it's frustrating, but for the original writer to even bother engaging in it beyond "i told my story, what happens with the corporate copywrite after that is just marketing" shows a certain level of artistic adolescence.

      Anonymous

As a zoomie clickdrone spastic I have to disagree with you. Corporations own the IP and whatever they do with it automatically becomes canon. Rings Of Power is canon and took place in the LoTR universe.

S1 was good because Fukunaga was allowed to direct all 8 episodes, which is also why binging it feels so good, it's like an 8 hours movie.

Plus the plot itself is just fricking Lethal Weapon with a Louisiana twist, buddy cop movies live or die on their cast and TD had an excellent cast.

                Anonymous

I dont think it was horrendous or anything. Just you know how it is dealing with an "artist" - s1 was very much a passion project of pizza for years, and hes a novelist first and foremost. Sacrifices have to be made bringing that to a TV show - stuff like cutting long unnecessary dialogue, or parts of the story. Fuku had to negotiate with pizza the whole 8 episodes on this and you can imagine it being hard work. Now that pizza has a name though he wouldn't have to do that. Basically without Fuku s1 wouldn't have been the masterpiece it is, it would have been flawed with incoherent pacing and 5 minute long dialogue about things that aren't relevant

le ugly lawn mower man was basically a mad offshoot of the real cult that may no longer operate at all, but has ties all the way up to the federal government. as with the entirety of S1, the implications from reading between the lines makes the ending great. watch the opening scene of S4E1 again and tell me 'a gang of angry eskimo b***hes' is a satisfactory answer to the questions it raises.

        https://nypost.com/2022/05/27/kamloops-mass-grave-debunked-biggest-fake-news-in-canada/

        >One year ago today, the leaders of the British Columbia First Nation Band announced the discovery of a mass grave of more than 200 Indigenous children detected at a residential school in British Columbia.

        >“We had a knowing in our community that we were able to verify. To our knowledge, these missing children are undocumented deaths,” Rosanne Casimir, chief of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, said in a statement on May 27, 2021.

        >What’s still missing, however, according to a number of Canadian academics, is proof of the remains in the ground. “Not one body has been found,”

        >Since last year’s announcement, there have been no excavations at Kamloops nor any dates set for any such work to commence. Nothing has been taken out of the ground so far, according to a Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc spokesman.

"This is not true" is a positive claim which requires proof. Without proof, the issue is still up in the air. This is basic logic.

Yeah well I think them excavating entire acres surrounding where these bodies are alleged to be buried and not even finding a fricking knuckle bone is pretty compelling evidence for a deboonking

Nothing in the article says this happened; in fact it states none excavations have been done.

This guy rapes children in the most gay way possible.

You have no evidence of this. Similarly, I have not provided evidence it is false. Therefore I can certainly not claim that your claim has been debunked. Do you understand now?

maybe my greentext wasn't clear there's a lot of angles to the story

some nutty b***h did radar scans of a graveyard, finding 'anomolies' - indigenous immidiately hold a press conference announcing the mass graves of children, with details they couldn't possibly know ('ages as young as 3'). media calls it 'our george floyd moment'. 33 churches in Canada are burned to the ground by insane covid era bluehair shutins

in the cases where digs have occurred to verify these anomalies, it's been 'Ooops turns out it was a tree trunk not a child'

trudeau gives 23 million to the indigenous, there's 'orange shirt day' every year for the 'missing children', and anyone who questions it is 'engaging in genocide denialism' which they're looking at making illegal rn in canada

Several years ago, it was a really big story that a mass grave had been found some indigenous school. The story was back in the early 1900s, the Canadian government killed a school full of Indian kids and covered it all it up. It was a huge story in scandal and all that was talked about for months.

Fast foward a few years. They excavated the site and failed to find any bodies.

Why do some people create art in hatred of their audience? Like why even bother if it's all in spite?

    S1 > S3 > S2 > S4

      nope.
If we exclude the last episode, yes. S3 > S2.
but considering the entire thing, S2 is superior because the last episode of s3 sucks major fricking ass

S2 has way bigger and more fundamental problems than the conclusion sucking

pizzaman is actually a fairly shit writer, he just now gets the benefit of being compared with someone much, much worse

Cinemaphile has always loved season 1 and despite Pizzaman being a one-hit wonder the first season is superbly written. What are you on about?

        >the first season is superbly written
imagine anyone but mcconaughey delivering rust's lines and you start to see the cracks in the writing

Good thing he’s a writer instead of a director. If the material works with the right director then the material still works. Everyone quotes that season all the time and there are several iconic scenes. It’s a good story, it makes no sense to say Pizzaman had no responsibility for its success just because FukaBlack person brought it to life

When did I mention season 1 at all in my post? No seriously, what are you even referencing? Whatever point you think you're making I assure you you're not making it.

Pizzolatto seemed like a moron as early as the season 1 post-episode YouTube shorts. Way out of his depth. Season 1's greatness is 100% due to Fukunaga and the two leads. Season 2 and 3 showed his real, untalented self. And his career is as dead as it can be.
Having said that, season 4 is unbelievably terrible, every episode is like a stand-alone gigaturd, that ends on a cliffhanger that isn't even brought up again. And the finale might be the worst finale in the history of TV shows. Pure incompetence. Were it not for Jodie's superhuman efforts to elevate whatever trash the stupid b***h wrote, it'd have been a cancelled CBS pilot.

Pizzaman was carried hard by Cary Fukunaga directing.

That's probably why he got rid of him.

No Time To Die showed us what a hack Fukunaga is.

Is DEI going to die any time soon? Blackrock need to stop funding this shit. Issa Lopez should never be hired for another thing in her meme career.

    >also if you're experiencing symptoms of mental illness you should, like, go drown yourself to be one with nature
    >you'd be some old lady magical Black ghost or something, it's 100% worth it
what the frick, they did Navarro dirty

The dickriding of TD season 1 and this fricking hack are one of the most puzzling thing of the last decade.
I haven't even seen the other seasons, but even if they're complete dog shit, S1 was just a pulpy collection of genre clichès and sophomore-year philosophy student banalities.
    >The world needs bad men. We keep the other bad men from the door.
    WOW, Holy KINO!!!
I can't understand if the World's filled with literal fricking morons, or if it's some kind of massive ruse.

while anon sometimes overblow it the season is very good unlike your attempt at bait

I'm not baiting, it's got a nice atmosphere and direction from Fukunaga, but it's stretched out, filled with cringe-worthy lines written by a high schooler trying to be deep and cool and so many moments are just fricking corny, like the Lawnmower man going "My family's been here a looong, long time. >:^)".
