True Detective Season 2

It was really good and the characters were compelling, I actually liked the four main characters more than the Rust and Marty.
But I can't help but feel it had more lost potential than the first season.
The California backdrop was great, but the new age spiritualist cults stuff wasn't explored nearly enough. It would have been so much more compelling to have had Bezzerides' father involved in the plot more. The ending was kind of disappointing.

If only they had more time to explore an actual plot instead of showing us two superfluous characters that don't change the story at all.

Gay motorcycle cop is the only one who's really superfluous, though McAdams probably should have been reduced to top secondary billing since she didn't need nearly as much focus early on. S2's problem is less "they didn't have enough time to cover all aspects of the complicated plot" & more "the runtime is used ineffectively and plot spins its wheels for five episodes before going anywhere" which makes it inaccessible for anyone that wasn't an autist examining every detail week to week when it first aired.

If it was about the three cops taking down Vince as some kind of Al Capone figure, it'd be fixed and kino but Ray is still on the take.

I think the setting was 10/10, problem was the plot was all over the place and they tried to do too much. They could make seasons of tv about Vernon, California.

The cult theme came to a perfectly fine conclusion in S1, with the fact that most members won't be found and punished reflecting the pessimistic tone of the show just right. it wasnt good. the ep with the house party might be the worst thing TD has ever done. also, there are so many names initially that its hard to remember who the frick they are even talking about. only good thing was vince but not enough to carry it.

disagree but Vince and Colin had such fricking great chemistry and moments together. I wish it was just them too though i've warmed up to the gay and woman because their storylines are anti-pozzed
